We took our dog Neo to Epic Dog Academy after weighing multiple options. He had severe separation anxiety and was a very challenging pup due to being extremely stubborn and energetic. We were hopeful when we found them based on the program curriculum that they have in place. The end result that we were hoping for was a much better behaved pup but with the same personality. As humans we went through training as well to bring Neo home. I cannot thank them enough for the progress that both Neo and my husband and I have seen. Not only os he much better behaved, but they have helped us to identify distractions, potential outbursts, and also how to get Neo through them. Nicest people , great training center. Vince was very responsive. I was under the impression that they do dog training and use the E collar only as needed. Went I returned to pick up my foster dog. She looked unhappy. I texted my daughter and said the dog looked miserable. Then I put it together, they use the E collar for the entire training. Sit, heel, all commands are E collar driven. No wonder she looked miserable. At the end of the day we put her in her kennel and she became very aggressive with our cats. I was surprised. She has never done that before. We stopped the E collar to she how she was in the morning. It's two days now and she's calmed down with the cats and playing with our other dogs. Without the E Collar, she doesn't follow through with commands. I have another trainer in Sacramento, Uncle Mattie, who spends three weeks for a trained dog without the E collar. So I know it can be done. With such a nice guy like Vince, I hoped for a different outcome. I was ignorant, I had no idea there were places that were E Collar only trainers, I was told it was last resort. Not the foundation. And that's where we part ways. I like the people and the facility but not the E Collar. I was told to keep the collar on and use it over the next four months. It is the same method as the SHICK CENTER in the 1970's to stop smoking. Anyhow for me personally, this is not the style of training that I'll put future dogs through. I feel bad for this one because I was trying to do the right thing for her in the future. I will send her to places that use little or no the color and as soon as she's ready I'm sending her to another trainer, so I can put her out for adoption. In all fairness to EPIC ACADEMY DOG TRAINERS, I have not lodged a complaint to them. The reason is I don't want to argue or debate. E Collar should not be 98% shock collar. We have brought both our pitty dogs to epic dog for training and just recently brought our mini dachshund pup to get trained there as well because of the great experience we had the first time. I cannot say enough good things about this training program. From the consult to the training and follow up training after. Everyone is very professional and knowledgeable in what they do. Our dachshund was not leash trained and extremely distracted whenever he was outside and could not take him anywhere public because of his constant barking. But after 2 weeks with the trainer, Erin, working with him at EDA our pup's behavior completely changed. She was able to guide us in how to keep up with his training at home and now he's calm and focused in public which is very hard for this breed in general. HIGHLY RECOMMEND EPIC DOG ACADEMY! My husband rescued an 9 month old lab/husky who is FULL of energy, lovable but literally tore apart anything in her eye sight. Please avoid at all costs!! If I could give zero starts I would in a heartbeat. Spent 5k for full and complete training, off leash included we were guaranteed a fully broken dog. We got the text to pick her up, when the trainer brought her out to show us what she learned first thing he said was "she's a stubborn one" ... yea she's one and a half so show us what you professional trainers trained her to do (lol) she didn't even listen to sit .. my husband and I quickly lost hope and just wanted to get her home. We weren't even shown any of her "off leash training" which made us connect the dots. She was never trained, she wore an E-Collar for 13 days and who knows what else went on. She came back skinnier, still untrained and aggressively scared of us and other dogs she's been around her whole life. We complained and were (professionally) told to kick rocks it's up to us now to keep up their "training", how can we keep something up that wasn't done?! We both work full time, the point of sending her to training school is to get what we were guaranteed, what they flaunt all over their website - results! **EDIT/ADD ON IN RESPONSE** Whether or not I was recommended to attend this academy, my experience stands as stated. It's unfortunate, because yes being referred we had high hopes. Posting a third party's personal information when completely unrelated to my review is quite inappropriate. My husband had one missed call/voicemail from your team asking how the training was. Seeing as there was NO training done, there was nothing to be said. We were very upset about loosing our money to you, so I called your facility to see what we could do and I was sent to voicemail, I then emailed your team my issues and was in short, told oh well. It was after my attempts to get a hold and work something out with your team I disputed the charge on my cc. It's 5 grand! The dispute took place in September/October, you took our payment in full without even seeing the place in July, and the training was early August. So curious to know where your side comes from that I disputed a charge that day. I have the receipts if you'd like to see them. If my dog came back terrified, skinnier, and untrained, why would I feel comfortable sending her back?! Especially after word spreads that we were unhappy the first time, I could only imagine the treatment my dog would get sending her back. And your facility is a 3 hour drive from us, that's how impressed we were and wanted to give your training a shot. I just adopted a GSD puppy aka land shark and was not prepared to deal with the constant nipping, biting, and rough play. I was seriously stressed about my ability to keep Farrah until I had an initial assessment with Patrick from Epic Academy. Farrah completed the 2 week board and training which made an immense difference in her behaviors and my ability to handle them. Jesslyn made a home visit after Farrah came back home to help us both with our new training. We attend the bi-weekly group training held in a large park with a large and varied group of other dogs and owners. It is taught by Vince and his direct and professional approach is very beneficial. Before EDA, he was well behaved at home, but we were having pretty significant issues out on walks. Now that he is trained with the e collar, he is able to go anywhere! I would say his behavior is 75% better on its own, but now when he reacts (or hopefully before he reacts) we can command "off" and he will always respond to the collar. No problem. Groomer is done. I ask if she was good and I get a passive aggressive No. then tells me it took an hour to calm her down. Asks me if I touch her legs and tells me she is aggressive. Apparently, she bit her. Again, we are dealing with a 15 week puppy that is teething and I clarified all of this before making my appointment. My dog is NOT aggressive. I had a husky that bit me. This is a puppy that's new to sounds. I carry my dog like a baby. So yea I would say I touch her legs. Then asks me if she is the queen of the house. Well my two dogs passed in the last 8 months so yea I would say she is. Then asks if she is spoiled. Why does this matter for you to cut and bathe my dog? I then was charged $10 more than the "high" quote. Probably was charged for the bite. Fine. That's fair. Then tells me if she doesn't look good it's because she was difficult. For $4k it wasn't worth it. They even missed a couple sessions and never made it up. I was even told they would take my dog to their facility once it was finished, but that never happened. I was promised my dog would be able to sit across from a dog and not be reactive. My dog is still very dog reactive. The e collar didn't work so they tried prong which seemed to help slightly but he is still very reactive and doesn't help much when he sees another dog. I was the one that taught my dog how to sit. I feel like the e collar and prong collar are harsh for dogs. It was hard to make to group classes because of where the classes were located. Epic Dog Academy is the BEST. We had an extremely reactive and excited beagle. Our beagle, Thor, needed some serious training and we didn't know where to start. Thors excitement and aggression to other dogs, cars, bikers, etc. was so bad that we couldn't even take him on long walks or let him go outside due to a fear of attacking someone or something. We had a consultation with EDA, and Thor decided to bark the entire time and run throughout the building. We were hopeless and had no idea how to handle our beloved beagle. The staff were so kind even during the consultation and set us up on a finance plan. We brought Thor to EDA for the aggression camp. They kept him for 2.5 weeks and when we got him back it was a completely different dog. He was still the same cuddly dog but way more obedient. Even our friends and family noticed how much better he was! They are amazing, we wanted to socialize our upstairs neighbor dog with Thor but was unsure how and they taught us how and came out to our house to do so. My husband and I purchased two cane corso puppies and knew we had to have them well trained given how large we expected them to be. We reviewed several companies, and decided to go with Epic. It was one of the best decisions we've made for our new additions. First, they come to your house and do puppy assessments. I appreciated that. I ask a lot of questions and Vince took the time to answer each one in detail. Next, we wanted our pups trained in a language other than English. EDA was 100% simply amazing about that. I remember the first night of training camp. Meghan - our trainer - contacted me about words for praise and feedback she needed, but did not have. Instead of defaulting to English, she took the time and follow through to make sure the training we sought was the training we received, covering the anticipated, the unanticipated, and all points in between. Further, the training course itself was amazing. I'm not a helicopter mom, but dropping off your new babes for two weeks isn't easy. Epic made sure I knew we could call or come in at any time. We visited once. Our puppies were so happy, and so well cared for, that we left extremely confident in our choice of not just training, but placing our babies in a safe and loving environment. The staff was extremely responsive to our single concern: our puppies were sharing a room, and we preferred they be housed separately. One request and Meghan was all over that. When bedtime was at hand, she made sure to reach out by text to confirm that she had seen to their separation and would make sure they remained separate for the duration of the training. We picked up two very happy dogs two weeks later. I've never had my dogs professionally trained and did not know what to expect. I thought they would be like dogs in the movies. They weren't, but I realized that was ridiculous. What I learned next was what sold me for good on - let's be honest - Epic's hefty price tag. Anyone can train a dog, especially with two weeks of concerted effort. It's training the *people* that's the deal breaker. Epic was clear: the puppies completed their bootcamp with flying colors. We could see that they had strong foundations for a host of commands. But their success depended on us, and our success depended on Epic. They immediately set up training US on how to train them. They recorded our pick up session so we could refer to it at home. They walked us through how to consistently reinforce what they'd just spent the last two weeks learning. They gave us a general training schedule with broad daily objectives. They provided a list of commands, with descriptions to help us with training consistency. They watched us train the pups and corrected OUR performance. Then, they set an appointment for a home visit to watch us train our pups in their home environment. Again, we were evaluated and our work with the puppies affirmed or corrected. They set a schedule for us to attend two trainings a month with the pups where we could train under guidance and with other pup families. We had access to instant feedback to avoid developing bad training habits. They were available immediately for questions outside of our classes as well. And they made it clear that this was a long-term commitment, and that they would be there every step of the way. We have yet to go anywhere with our pups - and we take them EVERYWHERE - where someone does not comment how well-behaved they are. Those movie dogs I mentioned above? We're halfway there already. This has been an incredible experience and we would do it all over again in a heartbeat. We love EDA. They thought our dog commands and then taught us how to train at home using e-collar that has made a huge difference for our family with our very big very energetic and wild mastiff. Not only are we as pet parents happy, but our young kids are happy and so is the dog because now they actually can be in the same space without us being super freaked out that the dog is going to be wild around them or act out his puppy behaviors on them (he's over 120 pounds at a year old).
