It's been years since I've gone to Ensenada but I thought I'd give him a try for DoorDash delivery. I got a bean cheese and rice burrito and it was perfect. Not too big, not too little and the price was affordable. I was craving hot posole on a rainy night so I ordered that as well. It wasn't as good as my besties, but it was OK. I really wish it had come with more of the things that you put on top i.e. bean, sprouts, lime, cilantro, shredded cabbage, etc. All that is what makes the posole but I could use more for multiple servings. I found the meat to be a little bit fatty and could used a little more soup versus harmony, but overall it tasted really good. I'm glad I tried him out again and I'll definitely be back for the burritos. I have no idea why I skipped pics but don't get the flan. It was a smoother pain. We dropped one of the utensils on the floor and handed it to the waitress who looked about 14 years old and she handed it back to us. A sign of things to come. The pink lemonade was really watered down to the point that we asked for just regular and got iced tea instead. Finally the lemonade that was served was as sugared as hummingbird food. The ceviche shrimp was grey rubbery and scary. The chips were thick and the salsa thin. The beans were dry. The only good thing was the ambience, but as the food tasted worse and worse the cheery flowers and portraits on the walls seemed to be mocking our stomachs turning in our bodies. I went in at 1:00, sat with a glass of water that had a foul smell, and a warm margarita. I waited about an hour for my order to be served and it was lukewarm. My order had a small dollop of sour cream and a small dollop guacamole. certainly not as described on the menu. The wait staff brought me a bottled water when I said the poured water smelled bad. The bottle had had something black and sticky on it. The glass I was given was likely rinsed, not dried as it was warm and had some cubes in it. I go up to the register to pay my bill. The girl asked me if I wanted a box as I barely touched my food. I said "no, it was terrible". I had to ask for a print out of what I ordered. Al pastor was the better tasting meat, however both were a bit dry and the green sauce on the pastor enchiladas really carried it. The rice was just okay, but the beans were very warm and yummy. It was empty when I entered and that could've been a sign. But decided to give it a try. The carne asada burrito was no bueno. Took a couple of bites to get to the meat. And that was when I was disappointed. The meat was chunky and tough. After 3 bites, I literally spit each bit out. I couldn't do it. Reading the reviews, it says the ingredients didn't seem fresh. That is what I experienced. Also it was not portioned well. The chips were stale. I threw away the burrito not even eating half!!Wasted $15+tax. The dining area was nice and the staff was nice. I've lived in Benicia for years and have never tried this place, but decided to order delivery. The nicest thing I can say about the food is that it came quickly and the order was correct. The vegetarian super burrito was pretty bland with the flavorless refried beans (no black beans?), and on the side was what appeared to be bagged salad. The mixed meat fajitas tasted basic. Neither dish had much flavor. The refried beans on the side also had no flavor at all. The salsa tasted unpleasantly sweet, almost a hint of spaghetti sauce-like flavor rather than fresh salsa. I was also surprised that you have to pay $2.99 for chips and salsa (Sandoval's doesn't charge for it). For $1.00 for extra salsa, we got a few tablespoons in a tiny container, which ultimately, we didn't mind because we didn't want it, but come on---$1.00 for a few tablespoons? The chips tasted mostly like the oil they were fried in. All of the foods we tried just tasted like they were low quality. There wasn't a single thing we liked that we ate. It was mediocre at best. Multiple reviewers have said "the owners have changed and it's better now." I can't imagine what it must have tasted like then, if this is the new and improved. Either that or nothing actually changed and I'm tasting the same thing that most people rate 2.5 stars. Two to 2.5 stars is fair, in my opinion. read more

Slowly trying new local businesses since I am new to the area and unfortunately, I will not return to this place because my $15 carne asada super burrito did not taste good nor did it have enough meat for me. They got my order wrong initially by giving me a regular burrito so they had to remake it. (Thank God I took a bite in the car! Something told me to do that!) Well it finally happen. The super burrito that i loved and was delicious has fallen on hard times. We ordered 2 super burrito's one with steak and one with ground beef. The one with ground beef was all refried beans and some rice and just a dollop of ground beef. The tortillas was not fresh and rather hard. The steak super burrito had at least day old steak that had the texture of little rocks, unable to taste. What happen? They were great recently. Now have to look for a new place...too bad. We came here for a quick bite to eat and a margarita. When you walk in you seat yourself, there was only one waiter but he did his best tending to all the tables. For the appetizer like most Mexican restaurants we received chips and salsa. The portions were extremely small, my mom and I finished it within 5 minutes. (We were a little hungry, so the picture is the aftermath). Regardless of the small portions the flavor of the salsa was great, and it was chunky how I like it. The chips weren't greasy, and tasted fresh as well. The portion sizes must run throughout the restaurant, because my margarita was so tiny. I also asked for sugar rim, but still received salt...I didn't say anything because he was a one man band. An upside to this visit was the mini connect 4. The food was cold, and kind of bland. I didn't have high hopes for this restaurant because it was in a complex, but decided to give it a try despite the reviews. Probably will trust my fellow yelpers next time. Best burritos in town. After being in Mexico, this is the closest to Mexican cuisine you can get. This is my hometown favorite.

The service here is terrible. My receipt doesn't have the items that I paid for. The kitchen has violations of COVID-19 instructions: no mask, no gloves. After I mentioned that the receiptionist ask kitchen worker to put the gloves and mask. I have asked about cancelling my transaction receptionist was rude and ask me to leave the place. read more

The worst Mexican food. Not sure why this place is still in business. My husband and I have tried this place twice. The first time we ate here was for breakfast. We ordered chorizo burritos. The tortilla was not hot and it was pale like they didn't even toast it. The burritos were soggy and dripping. I was craving chips and salsa so my husband went over there to try them out again. They charged him $8.97 for chips and salsa which was just a regular brown bag of chips and a little container of salsa. The salsa was like water with little bits of onion and tomato floating in it. It had no flavor and no texture. No wonder our burritos were dripping last time. They probably added this flavorless reddish water they called salsa. read more

Now I rarely post reviews, but after eating at Ensenada Restaurant I have to set the record straight. Now many of the previous reviews comment on the service and for those reasons give the restaurant a low rating, well they should separate their rating for service which may be a result of COVID and insufficient staff, and their review of the food. THE FOOD WAS GREAT! I am new to Benicia and I went to this restaurant without reading the reviews, and after being seating and then looking the restaurant up on Yelp I wanted too ok run out.....I'm glad I didn't. I'LL SAY IT AGAIN, THE FOOD WAS GREAT!! If service is slow, it might be because the food is made from fresh and not heated in a microwave or over the stove.
