The quality of the food is great, and they execute every dish (at least the ones I've tried) very well. I support a restrictive dietary household, and I have to customize my orders every time I visit; and they've delivered every time. I've yet to sit down and eat there, but the dining area always presents as clean and well maintained. This is my new "go to" spot and I'd recommend it anyone.

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more You order at the counter. I told the staff that it was my first time, but wanted a breakfast burrito. She didn't just take my order, she made sure I got the breakfast burrito exactly like I imagined. The best review I can provide - my first visit was on February 18. I've already been back 3 times in under 1 week. Each time I've ordered the breakfast burrito, but I do want to try their cheese enchiladas and chili relleno.Seating Limited inside seating. 7 tables, probably a maximum capacity of 25 people. Outside seating - 2 picnic style tables. No salsa and chip bar. They have the salsas in a fridge behind the counter. Chips aren't self-serve either. Breakfast Burrito ($14.50, Grade A) - typically comes with a wheat tortilla. Choice of pinto, refried, or black beans. Rice, scrambled eggs, sour cream, cheese, avocado slices, salsa Fresca, and roasted tomato sauce and lettuce. I was really happy she asked me "do you want the wheat or white tortilla?" I went with una tortilla blanca. Great size for a burrito. The fresh avocado slices are a nice touch to elevate the burrito versus guacamole that can get messy. Plus, guac inside of a burrito usually makes the burrito cold, but fresh slices fixed that issue. Plenty of scrambled egg in every bite. One of the better breakfast burritos I've had. Can't confirm if the tortilla is housemade, but it has that texture. You know the last bites of the burrito have that texture? In this case, every bite has that same texture. Fajita Tostada Salad ($15.95, Grade A) - flour tortilla shell filled with warm black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsa Fresca, sour cream, and guacamole. Not sure where the fajita part of the menu comes into play because not much fajita-ish about this dish. Substitions - instead of grilled chicken, they allowed a free swap for rice. Cool looking dish. Who doesn't like a fried flour tortilla bowl? The thing that sticks out about this menu item was the bowl fillings were hot. Many times when I order taco salad bowls, the fillings are room temp. Having the dish warm-hot made a world of difference and made it truly feel like a meal. This dish comes with a salsa verde that acts like a salad dressing. If you are familiar with Dos Coyote Howlin' Tostada dressing, this was similar. Salsas - they have mild and hot. Hot is totally doable and if you can handle a little spice, it makes every bite of the breakfast burrito that much better. Bottom Line - friendly service. Delicious food. If you take it to go, make sure to ask for chips and salsa because they won't automatically put it in the bag.

Things really have gotten better…read more Me and my wifey have been going here for years. But one thing that has been really annoying was that the last couple times we've gone, the service hasn't been the best. Our orders have been wrong multiple times. But this recent visit was different. Last week we came by and decided to sit outside since it's been warmer. In my head, I was thinking, "I'm gonna be so sad if they forget about us." Like literally 30 seconds a super kind kid came out and greeted us and asked if we wanted some chips and salsa. Thank god! Things were starting to look up! I ordered a Beer Batter Fish Taco Dinner with flour instead of corn tortillas. They were so good. The fish didn't have too much breading. The seasoning was perfect. But I was shocked with the sauce that it came with. I don't know what it was but it was a light green and creamy texture. Maybe a cilantro or avocado crema? Whatever it is, if you order the tacos, you gotta add this crema to them. It is a must!

But it is what it is- enjoy - The burrito was good with the shredded something - I thought I asked for chicken- what they brought was pretty good - I don't know if it was chicken - but it was good - fajita chicken ? Missed the green sauce then this green sauce came out and dam it was good - it really brought out the flavor mixed with the chicken burrito . Of course the chips - but I want you to try the salsa. Wow- sooo good . So I'm here again- I can't go anywhere else for they are all let downs- so I'll keep coming here - and enjoy the food - since I know what I'm getting , I'll embrace the love

I will preface my review with the caveat that if you are in a hurry, order ahead for pickup or choose to go somewhere else. Busy times of the day could mean longer waits. I have been living in Contra Costa county for almost 4 years. Finding Mexican food to our liking has been difficult until we found this place. Here are the reasons why we like it. 1. Everything is house made. Chips and salsa both freshly made and salsa has a kick. The restaurant doesn't charge you for these delicious snacks. 2. Best ever skinny margaritas which means they don't use a premade mix and the house blanco tequila is decent. 3. The choices for protein are good. Not many places have a ground beef burrito. 4. Choice of beans. I like whole pinto, and they are great here. 5. I have never encountered any server or bartender to be anything but kind and pleasant. Whenever we are in Benecia, we choose Elvarita's for Mexican food.

The bar area was completely empty aside from one table, no bar tender visible at the bar. We were met with an unexpected burst of energy from one of the patrons at the table who didn't present himself as staff upon our arrival. He turned us away very abruptly, leaving no room for explanation. We later returned after taking a bathroom break elsewhere to try to explain our point of view, and trying to empathize maybe they had been busy all day, and that we'd been fans of the bar and food since before kids. Only to then be insulted by the bar tender with parenting skills put into question. Totally unacceptable for a small town where we rely on friendly, helpful staff.

So our party of 4 decided to call that a day and went to check out downtown Benicia, First St is lovely, full of small pubs, restaurants and shops. This taphouse looked interesting and there were a few people seated outside so we decided to check it out. It was a hot day and the server told us that the inside had AC so we decided to sit inside but there are several tables outside in the front of the taphouse and a separate area to the side of the restaurant with plenty of seating. There is a large bar to the left which leads into the kitchen area. There are several booths to the right and tables for seating in the middle of the space as well as bar seating. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon and the place was not full but there a few tables were occupied. The bar itself is very old, I was told almost 100years old and original and it is a standout feature. Beautiful. The decorations are pictures of how the place and Benicia used to look a 100 years or so back. i wanted to have a beer but don't like dark beers and when I asked the server for a suggestion, she got me a couple of samples. I liked the light beer and ordered that. We also ordered a Roy Rogers and a hop water which I was told was interesting. There is plenty of street parking but this was on holiday. I can see the parking getting tough on a weekend. I thought the prices for the food were expensive, especially for Benicia. We ordered 2 slider kid meals which were $11 each, came with kettle chips and an order of cheesesteak. It was good sized and also came with chips. Service was quick and they checked in on us to make sure that were doing fine. The only blip was when we needed the check and no one was coming around and I walked up to the bar to ask for the check and the server told me to go back to my seat and she will get it for me, it was unexpectedly abrupt. It was a nice place and I would recommend the restaurant.
