I've suspected this was coming for a while. The owners of Enigma have sold the Tarzana location. It's now known as Flavorite Cafe. The new owner, Leon, seems to be a nice gentleman who's trying to get a grasp on both his clientele and the business and make it a smooth transition. He's increased the selection of pastries and food that's available. Service does seem to be a little slower so far. But since the same morning shift barista was working there today, my latte was as good as always. read more

We were trying to get to Laidrey when I remembered a cute little shop in a plaza a minute north. I convinced my husband to check out this spot since we hadn't been here before. The shop is located in a plaza with decent parking spots. I can imagine on a busy day it can be hard to park here! Which was already a good start to our experience since Laidrey has terrible parking (no offense). I love Laidrey but wanted to give a chance to a place I haven't tried before. Upon entrance, we were greeted with a warm and pleasant "good morning!" The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The cashier/barista was the sweetest girl who gave me helpful tips on what to get. There was an older gentlemen who walked us through on the different pastries. He told us what to get warmed up and what would taste good with the coffee. I'm so glad the staff had actual good tips because man was everything DELICIOUS. The potato croquette I had was mind blowing! It was savory with hints of cumin and a little bit of spice which you can't really get something like this at regular coffee shops. My FAVORITE! The sweetened puff pastry with cheese felt decadent and good with the coffee but boy did it fill me up immediately! The savory feta pastry was something my husband ordered which he seemed to really like but wasn't a personal favorite of mine. The Spiced Mexican Mocha was smooth and creamy. My husband ordered this and it was perfectly up to his speed! I ordered "The Sam" which is a salted vanilla oat latte. I was so excited because it already had oat milk in it! This latte was absolutely incredible and she even added the aesthetic foam art heart to it. Overall, the environment was wholesome and it's a very spacious shop. Not too loud or crowded for me. After a doctor's appointment in the area I stopped by to get a cup of cold brew. The parking was a bit challenging but I managed. The interiors are not welcoming but they do have some indoor seating. The ambiance here is cold. I just wanted to get my coffee and leave. However the coffee tasted great and I enjoyed it much. Don't know how this got almost 4.5 stars. The coffee was really watered down with a weird after taste. Maybe just not a fan of the salted vanilla syrup but even the coffee looks almost transparent. It tastes how it looks. Eeeek. read more

Really enjoyed my first experience here! It checked off basically all of my criteria for a great coffee shop: WiFi, helpful baristas, great coffee with some milk options for those with allergies, actual food options (I got the ham and cheese with sourdough. They were unfortunately out of croissant today and I was really looking forward to it). Parking can be a little tight or there's street parking. Came here for a weekend coffee break and really enjoyed the vibe. The cafe itself is fantastic, very clean, modern, and surprisingly spacious, making it a great place to relax or get some work done. The drinks and food were a bit of a mixed bag. The Mexican spiced mocha had a great kick, but I found myself wishing for a richer chocolate flavor to balance the spices. Similarly, the lavender in the matcha was unfortunately very subtle, to the point where I couldn't really taste it. On the food side, the ham and cheese croissant was a definite winner, incredibly flaky and delicious. The grilled cheese was also a solid, tasty choice. The only other thing to note is the parking situation. The lot is quite small and tight, which is clearly due to its location, so just be prepared to possibly hunt for a spot. Decided to try a new coffee shop and went for this one! Didn't realize they had a small parking lot so we parked along Ventura to be safe. Metered parking to be precise. Walked in and it was eerily quiet? No music playing at all. One customer at their table on their laptop, 2 Baristas, and another couple who were ordering ahead of us. It's very bare in here. I noticed mostly the empty white space and open room and then a broken trash bin in the back by the restrooms. Ordered fairly quick and my drink came out almost immediately. I went for their advertised drink called "The Sam" which was a salted vanilla oat milk latte, got it iced and it was different but super good! Really delicious and didn't expect to love it so much. Finally got to stop by! It looks like there's no parking and only street parking but there's a parking garage in the back. I parked at the top and no problem. I tried The Sam since it's their most popular and it's a salted vanilla oat latte. It was so good! Just right. I love this kind of latte. Not so sweet, not so milky, and the flavor is there. They only have one size which is a 16oz and that's fine with me. I look forward to coming back and trying their other coffees. Inside is so spacious, clean and minimalist. There's couches and tables as well as tables outside. The guy who helped me I wish I got his name but he gave off this chill vibe, so nice. There's more parking on the street or parking garage in the back, but you'll have to pay. 1. SAM (salted vanilla) Subtly sweet and savory with a notes of nuttiness from the oat milk. Super delicious. 2. Lavender Matcha (4/5) Decent amounts of matcha, but no lavender taste at all. However, that likely is my own fault as I told them I wanted minimal sweetness. The service is nice and the ambience is pleasant and they do have some outdoor seating, albeit on rickety chairs and tables. But the coffee itself is deadful, they make a pot and then let it sit there until until it burns and gets awful, and is presented to you lukewarm. So if you like good coffee this is not the place to go to, and since coffee IS the reason you're going there, it stands to reason there are far better options nearby. read more

Absolutely the worst cup of coffee I have ever had, period! Lukewarm, stale, and at $4.00, plus $1.00 tip the experience represented negative value. It reminded me of the days when you would go to a 7-11 and purchase a coffee that had been sitting in a pot for hours and tasted like oil. It was that level of disappointment. At least the 7-11 coffee was hot (and cheap). This place is guilty of "ambiance over quality." Incidentally, it was 10:00 a.m. on a beautiful SFV morning and nearly every table, inside and out, was unoccupied. That should have been my first clue. To be fair, and having received at least one other complaint, the "barista" prepared a new pot of coffee, and I was given a replacement cup for free, and it was reasonably good, but it should never have come to that. read more

This cafe in Tarzan is small but nice, the baristas are nice and know what they're doing. Their iced chai is good and i recommend it with lavender, if you're more into matcha I recommend it with agave. While the cafe is small it's a nice spot to sit and get some work done. The service was great and the shop is clean and minimalist. My partners mocha was fantastic, my cold brew was good, but I've had better. And my partners sister's matcha was average to me, I love matcha we make it at home and order it at many places. I'll def come back to try a different brew for myself. read more

Excellent coffee at a moderately decent price! Unfortunately the place had a car accident and the front window is boarded up but it's still open! Plus I hear no one was hurt! I walked in and I was greeted by the cashier. I saw the sign that says no cash. So they take apple pay and credit cards. I didn't check if they take other forms but probably the major electronic ones. The cashier helped me pick a latte and I opted for the lavender one. The drink came super fast! Second time coming here. LOVE THE SERVICE. Very calm environment. Definitely can come sit and do some work on a computer without a problem. Today tried the Vegan lemon poppyseed muffin and given the word vegan in it, I was nervous. Wasn't too bad. Definitely coming back for a third time because the blueberry muffin was calling my name. Stopped by on a Thursday around 10:30 am to get some work done. It's nice that they have free WiFi and outlets. It's a quiet space to catch up with someone or do some work. Drink 2.5/5 I ordered SAM which is salted vanilla latte with oat milk. They use Pacific Foods oat milk which is not my favorite in quality or flavor. All I could taste was the oat milk, no espresso, no salted vanilla. Every sip I took, I was disappointed. Finally went and let them know of the situation and he offered to make me another drink so I asked for something simple. He offered a sample of the cold brew and shared that it was from a few days ago so of course the cold brew tasted sour and acidic. I opted for an americano so double shot of espresso, water, and ice and asked for cream on the side and added some sugar myself which was much better. Service 5/5 As mentioned previously, the gentleman who remade my drink was nice and offered me another drink without hesitation. Price 2/5 I paid $7.5 for a small, below average drink that was filled with ice. I don't find the prices to be fair given the ambiance or quality of the drinks. I had paid $7.20 for a delicious large iced latte from Lalaland cafe the day before and if you've been there, you know how trendy it is. Ambience + parking 3/5 This is a place to sit and get work done because it's spacious, has a bathroom, WiFi, and outlets or get coffee to-go but given that I didn't like the taste of the coffee, I wouldn't come here just to get my caffeine fix. There's not anything special to the interior. As for parking, it's in a busy shopping plaza so you have to be lucky to find a spot. The day I visited, I found a spot close to the shop but it's usually really busy. They do offer pastries and small breakfast options. Overall Gets 2 points from me for service and because it's a good work-space but not a great coffee shop. read more

TLDR: Tight parking, excellent coffee, friendly barista! Also, order the drinks half sweet unless you have a sweet tooth. I visited Enigma on a weekday afternoon, when it was fairly quiet. I was the only one there that day, maybe because of the Labor Day weekend effect. I wasn't quite sure what to order, but two drinks had caught my eye: the SAM and the Salted V Cold Brew - both of which I learned are similar distinguished only by cold brew vs espresso. I went with the SAM half sweet since I wanted something lighter, and the gentleman ensured that I loved my drink. It tasted great, but it was a little too sweet, and I wanted to balance it out with slightly more espresso but then it became to bitter, and I asked for more syrup versus oat milk since the texture was already quite thick. At the end, it ended up being sweeter than expected, and I was too embarrassed to continue customizing. I didn't check if there was WiFi, but the cafe was super clean, and there wasn't loud music playing if at all. Enigma is a very nice location for both studying and casual meetups, and I see myself returning. The only con is that parking is a little tight, and getting in/out of the 101N freeway isn't the most convenient - though that's but a small tradeoff for excellent coffee and customer service. read more
