A friend took me here the other day for some grub and yap. I absolutely love the interior. I only wish it was more gothy inside. But there are some nice velvet chairs and things. Plus the branding is cool. Anyway, onto the food and drinks. I ordered an iced matcha and the Marigold sandwich. The matcha was perfect honestly because they gave the option of sweetened or unsweetened. Also, the sandwich was delicious. I was so excited to see something with turkey bacon by default and not regular bacon since I can't have pork. The spread they use on there is really yummy. The menu has a lot of interesting flavors on it. There are some Korean-inspired dishes that I definitely want to try like the Kimchi breakfast tacos. Can't wait to go back! Note: 1. Stopped by recently and had a pretty good experience overall. The chai was decent, but I was hoping for a bit more spice and depth of flavor. That said, the Madagascar vanilla latte was really good - smooth, slightly sweet, and definitely something I'd order again. The burritos were a highlight!! super big portions and satisfying. I was looking to read over a script for a project I booked today, and so decided I'd try this place because I had bookmarked it recently. It turned out to be a good spot to sit and get some work done. The ambiance is comfortable--music was a little on the loud side, but nothing a pair of noise-minimizing headphones can't handle. There's also an outdoor, tent-covered patio if you prefer to dine al fresco and in a more quiet atmosphere.. I did want something to eat for breakfast, and they had several options that sounded really appetizing. I actually had a bit of a hard time deciding, so I appreciated the friendly barista taking the time to help me land on a choice. After naming off a few possibilities, the barista suggested the Bouquet Burrito, mentioning it's one of their favorites and quite hefty. So I went with the Bouquet Burrito and it's definitely a hefty one--very filling and packed with eggs. If you're hungry, this will do the job. That said, I was hoping for a bit more balance and flavor. There was a lot of egg, but not quite enough protein from the bacon to even it out. The overall taste was pretty average and didn't really stand out. It came with two sauces, which helped, but honestly the burrito should be flavorful on its own without needing condiments--and even the sauces themselves were a bit underwhelming. Based on a few Yelp reviews, it looks like they serve single-origin coffee beans, which is a big plus in my book. I didn't try the coffee this time, but I'll definitely be back to check it out. I wish I liked Black Heart Coffee more because I can tell they have a lot of fans, but I got their chocolate croissant and avocado toast and really wasn't a fan. I didn't expect there to be a mochi-like texture inside of the chocolate croissant, so it was a lot heavier than I expected. I do think the flavor was good, but it was just a surprising texture thing for me. Their avocado toast was nice in the sense that they added a lot of avocado and pickled onions, but for some reason, the avocado did not taste like fresh avocado. The color also reminded of the avocado that comes out of packets because they have to add chemicals to keep the taste and color of the avocado the same. First time trying Black Heart Coffee! Love the name. For a drink I got the butterscotch latte. It was sweet but not too crazy, such a fun treat. Extra shot of espresso had me full of energy for quite awhile. For food I got the Abelia salad (it's like a southwest salad) but made it a wrap with the wheat tortilla. It was bigger than I thought! The wrap and tater tots were enough for two meals for me. The sauce (ranch & bbq) was the perfect amount. What a great find. This spot is well hidden in a small strip mall but is quite spacious inside. Theres a few outdoor tables on a patio and lots of seating options inside. Found the perfect coffee/breakfast spot in the valley that opens at 6am. It's rare you find a place that's open early, has great coffee, great food, and a cool interior. Stumbled on this one when working in the area and saw they can customize their options to also make things vegan. They have vegan morning pastries such as a chocolate loaf cake and lemon poppy one as well. They have seasonal drinks, a lot of nice seating inside, and some parking in front. We stopped by for breakfast after seeing photos on the beautiful interior of the cafe and the food. Everything looked and sounded so appetizing. I went with the chilaquiles and they were very tasty! It had a lot of chicken and egg which I appreciated! My friends who ordered the berry french toast and breakfast burrito also enjoyed their food a lot! We all got coffee and we didn't have a single complaint. The butterscotch latte is a MUST try, I wish I ordered that instead of the white chocolate latte haha. The food was really yummy and our orders came out relatively quick! My sister loves the kids meal with French toast. My favorite is the Mediterranean stuffed pita with chicken. The first time I ordered this it was perfect, but this time around there was a lot of dressing in the salad so the pita got a bit soggy so it was a mess but a yummy one. The Madagascar vanilla latte was delicious and my go to order. Black Heart Coffee is a great spot! This was my first time here, and I ordered online for pickup, which was super easy. I ordered the Bouquet Burrito and the hot Black Heart latte with whole milk. The burrito was so good!! Everything paired well together and it wasn't dry at all. On top of that, it is pretty big, which I thought was worth the price. Blackheart is a super popular local spot in the Lake Balboa area. Parking lot can be tricky, but you can find a spot in the nearby neighborhood pretty easily. I love their outdoor seating! It's shaded and always clean. The inside has a nice aesthetic with table and sofa seating. I always see lots of people on laptops working but it's also super family friendly. I come here specifically for the food and pastries! I love their breakfast burritos and their muffins are amazing. Their banana muffin and zucchini muffin are my favorites. The chocolate loaf is also mind blowing! They have vegan and gluten free options available for those with food restrictions. The coffee/tea latte drinks I have found can sometimes be inconsistent. I used to love their dirty chai, but some days it's got great spice and other days it tastes too milky. So in my experience, the drinks can be hit or miss but the vanilla latte is always a safe bet! Parking can be a bit tricky - there's a few spots up front so it can be challenging during prime time hours. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I asked the guy how long it would take since I was in a rush and it was crowded and they looked busy. He said about 10-15 min so I ordered it and he was spot on! It came out a little sooner too. The wrap was bigger than I thought so points there but it was a little soggy from the sauce they add I guess so that made it less enjoyable. I just heard about this place and wanted to try it. Since it's my first time I ordered from the "favorite's" menu. I also asked the cashier and he also confirmed my choice of The Bouquet Burrito. HUGE and so tasty and filling. I only ate half. Later on his break the cashier was sitting behind me eating The Bouquet Burrito so he REALLY does love it. I'm not a coffee drinker but since they are a "coffee" place I tried the Golden Milk. Honey, turmeric and ginger added to espresso and milk (almond milk). Delicious. The parking is not the greatest. This girl is always looking for good coffee! So, here I was on a very busy Sunday morning waiting on a very long line. No, not my thing but I waited patiently to see if their coffee was "that good." I finally got to the counter to order my very specific latte and a blueberry muffin. The person who helped me was very friendly and answered all of my questions. About 20 minutes later after going back inside a few times, my latte was ready. It was luke warm with too much foam. So, there I went again to have them remake it. When I lived in Lake Balboa area, this is my go to spot for brunch. I love their Golden Milk. I haven't been there in 2 years so when I had an appointment out there last week, I made sure to get my favorite drink. They get buys and they only have one person taking orders so they may need to look into hiring more people. Drove by this coffee shop and saw there pictures and reviews on here and knew I had to stop in soon. Had an early apt in the morning and had to kill time between then and work so finally got to come check out Black heart. Beautiful interior, lots dark green and foliage, ample seating perfect for meeting up with friends or a nice study spot. Small parking lot put I got there around 7am. Very friendly staff, big menu and quick service. I got an iced chai latte, açaí bowl and chocolate chunk cookie. All so good! From the street one would believe this location to be unwelcoming, and that is what I thought as I drove around to find a spot to park. FYI, very few spaces in front so park along the street and around the corner. Okay, so where was I, oh yes, parked. Walk toward the entrance, as you approach they do have about 8-10 small tables outside with overhead "tent". Wasn't the most attractive. But when you enter, well, it is as different as night and day. The inside dining had a lounge to the left with sofas and TV. In the middle, was very long and cocktail height table that could seat 8-10 persons. Four lower 4-seat tables along the far wall. It is uniquely decorated. You place your order at the counter and callout your name when your order is ready. The sandwiches we ordered were very delicious. I had the Roasted Turkey, and enjoyed it, spread that accompanied it was avocado, had the Aoli sauce on the side. What I enjoyed about the sandwich was the turkey was not the type you find in the supermarket, this actually was a turkey that they carved from a whole turkey, at least it looked like to me. My guest ordered their Marigold. She really enjoyed it and said the favor was unlike anything she had ever tasted. She said that she was coming back with her husband. I will be returning also with my wife. I want to sample their desserts and have one of their coffees...yes, I know that that is what they are known for but today I had their iced Hibiscus berry tea. TLDR: When it comes to the coffee I'd say pretty standard but I loved the vibe, the fairly decent parking and the service. Ordered: - Iced Latte with Vanilla: 3/5 - Just tasted like another ordinary iced latte to me, unfortunately. I'm no coffee snob so I'll let them be the judge - Frittata: 4/5 - A surprising hit! The star of the show was obviously the caramelized onions, I mean that's always a win in anything. The egg was also not dried out which always bothers me with a frittata. Good flavor and a nice compliment to the drink. Vibes: 4/5 - Due to the virality of the place it was packed at 10:00 on a Saturday but that's also to be expected. The line moved quickly though! Despite the varied seating options the place itself is not that big so you probably won't get too much privacy on whatever titillating conversation you hoped would not be overheard. The noise control when its crowded can be high. Good news is that they still have their covid style outdoor seating so you can stretch your legs. I was hoping for a balanced matcha, but even the standard drinks were overwhelmingly sweet and somewhat bitter. The food was outstanding for the price! HUGE portions and we honestly could have shared something. I would suggest getting their EARLY for seating if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. They have outdoor covered seating as well. Parking is a hit or miss luckily the side street there was plenty of parking and not a long walk.
