I had come here for years in the 2000s. I went back today, for the first time in a long while, with my old childhood friend really looking forward to getting brunch which was always amazing in the past. I even checked their website beforehand to see if they still served brunch, and they did still advertise the menu with items I remember having years ago. When we sat, they gave us just the lunch menu. I went up to our server and asked if they had a brunch menu, a waiter/manager (not our server) interrupted and said, "No we don't. You can go next door if you want brunch." I don't think he was trying to be rude, but his delivery was brash and I was taken aback, AND disappointed. We decided to stay because we knew their food from their lunch and dinner menu were also good (as we had fond memories from years ago). We ordered their pre fixe lunch menu which was a great deal for $22 - However, their portions were way too small. Had I known it was going to be so small, I would've just ordered from their regular menu. Their bread basket of sourdough bread is good, but comes cold ... along with their hard refrigerated butter in little packets. We had the cod for our entree, and it needed acidity like lemon or capers, it was quite bland, as was our kale salad starter that was supposed to have a mustard dressing, but we tasted no mustard. It was really flavorless. The chocolate mousse dessert was confusing as it was hard as if it was refrigerated as well, but it wasn't cold at all. I'm sad and disappointed it's not what it used to be, but we will remain reminiscing about the more joyous times we had in the 2000s at Encore. read more

Went there for a brunch with some friends. First time there, and it looked like a French Bistro in Paris... We sat inside as it was warm outside. Good service, attentive and not obtrusive. We ordered various dishes but mine was the eggs benedict served with salad and French fries. Eggs were cooked nicely and there was a lean piece of Canadian bacon on the English muffin. Salad was dressed well with a nice acidity to it...worked well with the rest of the dish... I highly recommend this place. read more

I enjoyed my dinner here with friends. We ordered and shared some entrees and everything was very tasty. There are a lot of interesting food options that you can't find else where. Another delicious find in upstate New York! I was walking around with my partner and we were feeling hungry and ended up finding this spot. Turns out, they have a lunch special which is a 3 course menu for just $20. The space inside is very quaint and quiet and had such nice decor. I went with the Clams, Steak, and Crème Brûlée. While I loved all of the food, I do wish the appetizer with clams had more clams. It came in a little pot with a big bucket to put the shells in. I thought the sauce was really good and there were only 4 clams inside. They were pretty big clams but I think next time I would get a soup instead. However, I'd probably want to order a whole thing of the clams! The steak was a good portion and I ended with the crème brûlée which was the perfect dessert to top it all off. Situated on Chatsworth Ave., Encore's Lyon-bred owner opened these doors a little over 20 years ago to bring a taste of France to Larchmont. Even though the kitchen isn't headed by a French-born, our Valentine's Day meal was tasty. Their salad menu lists goat cheese-topped greens, mesclun, house, arugula, etc. Appetizers include bones marrow, onion soup, pâté, etc. But it was our non puff pastry-topped escargots we selected that tasted great with a great dose of butter+garlic+ parsley sauce. The only thing missing was a few baguette slices- but we used the crusty bread we'd gotten earlier to sop up that garlicky goodness. My bubbly was crisp and hubs' Cosmo was packed nicely. Seafood, meats, lamb and a pasta dish (there are other items) are all on the menu. My Striped Bass in lemon+butter sauce was a sizable portion with a roasted 1/2 tomato and snow peas as sides. However, some parts of the fish tasted brutally pungent while some parts tasted fine and hubs enjoyed his 1/2 roasted chicken with pommes frites. My poached pear in wine dessert with Chocolate ice cream and hubs' profiteroles dripped in real dark chocolate sauce (and none of that Hershey's bullcrap syrup either), were great. Service was very nice on all fronts- from the owner's greeting to our server Joe to the busboys. The red rose made such a wonderful Valentine's Day touch. Striped Bass aside, Encore's cozy space could possibly be one of our firm favorites and come here time and time again....for the escargots. read more

We have visited and repeated many times at Encore. Food quality is always consistent and great service. The place can be buys at times with mostly locals, and although I have seen a few visitors with maps in hands. They have a prix fixe lunch menu that is reasonably priced, and I believe the menu refreshes daily. We have tried most items on their menu and all equally good. I had an amazing lunch here! What a find! It's adorable inside and the food is outstanding. We decided on the lunch special, and I ordered the linguini and my friend got the trout. For appetizers, we ordered an arugula salad and a curried mussel soup. The salad was fresh and delicious in a Dijon vinaigrette. The curry muscle bisque was outstanding. My linguine was excellent, with tasty chicken and a nice wine sauce. The trout was fresh with a sun-dried tomato and sage sauce, accompanied by rice pilaf. For dessert we ordered a crêpe and profiterole's. Both were perfect and hit the spot! This is a lovely restaurant where you feel like you've stepped into Paris. Took a trip to NY with my son and we visited this beautiful quaint town "Larchmont". Walked into this gem and had an amazing experience. The staff was warm and friendly. The food was delicious from the onion soup to the bone marrow. My favorite was the Steak Frites. Omg the meat was so flavorful and tender. Actually craving it right now. Ambiance and aesthetic of the place is cozy and intimate. Soft and subtle. The service was to be desired for me, the staff could have been more attentive. Would have liked to been asked how things were, or if I may have wanted to something more. The waiter came once to take our order, and then when I flagged for the bill. Small detail however I cherish these things when going out. It being a bistro wait staff usually aren't trained like those in restaurants. So keep that in mind when coming here. Some background music would elevate this place though, I truly did like the feel to this place. Food: I had the prefix lunch menu for the day. Appetizer: steam muscles with sweet chili sauce garnished with cilantro - pretty good dish overall, the sauce didn't break and it wasn't too thick the spice of the chili paired well with the muscle. Light intro to get the palate going. Entre: Sautéed fillet de trout in basil sauce - the dish came with a steamed carrot, couscous and green beans. The couscous tasted fresh out the box, like that cardboard smell/taste, it didn't land well with the dish. The fish was made well, the skin was perfectly crisp and the sauce was surprisingly the best part of the dish. The vegetables were ok nothing to special about it. However I would honestly not order this dish again. Desert: coconut sorbet - the original desert was a strawberry sorbet, not that this bothered me just that it didn't come out as it was a part of the prefix. Pretty good though overall. Overall I would like to try this place again to see what the menu has to offer for dinner. However i am skeptical. read more

Over-priced diner food. We hadn't been there in a few years and remembered it as nice and quiet but it wasn't. It was extremely noisy and busy. We previously had thought it was very good but they no longer serve the cassoulet which was very good. Today I had chicken, gravy and fries that would have been much cheaper down the street at the Larchmont Diner. Oh, well. Live and learn. read more

Our intention today was to dine at a different lunch location then where we did eat. The place we had chosen was too crowded, more casual than we wanted and we didn't like how you had to order first and then find a seat. My mom is in her early 80s so standing for any length of time is not easy for her. Encore French Bistro was right next door so we decided to try and glad we did. Encore offers outside dining with tables nicely distanced from each other as well as indoor dining with plastic partitions in between each booth. We opted for outdoor because the weather was ok. They have tall heaters by each table should it get cold. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Fresh chewy bread with butter was served while we looked over the menu. The menu is French inspired with lots of great bistro options and was priced decently considering the area. We opted for the prix-fixe 3-course lunch special for $18.50. The first course options offered two different salads or a soup. I dined with two family members so we each tried a different option. The tomato and roasted pepper soup was a nice portion and I was told was good but salty. My mom is watching her sodium so she was glad she didn't go with the soup option. She chose the Boston lettuce, roasted garlic dressing salad option which she said was tasteless. I had the Frisée with red onions and lime dressing, it also had small bits of bacon. It was good although bitter but that is the nature of Frisée lettuce. Because it's a bitter lettuce it would have been more enjoyable to my palate had they diffused the bitterness by adding another lettuce to the mix. I still enjoyed it. Main course offered a few options. I went with the macaroni pasta with goat cheese, bacon and truffle oil. It was very good and a hearty portion. I would have preferred they used a penne pasta or something other than elbow macaroni. The menu did in fact say Macaroni Pasta. My family members both got the sauteed fillet of salmon, truffle oil balsamic glaze served with one big piece of steamed cauliflower, a few sauteed string beans and a thimble of rice. At first sight they thought the portion was small but it was filling and satisfying. Dessert offerings were a crepe suzette, poached pear or blueberry sorbet. The blueberry sorbet was so light and refreshing and with 2 scoops more than enough of a portion. It was delightful and definitely homemade because it had lots of bits of blueberries. My mom had blueberry seeds all over the place! Oh how I wish I had gotten the sorbet instead of the poached pear. The pear was good but sorbet beat it hands down. I liked the menu and service so will likely return. BTW, very convenient parking across the street where CVS is. A sign reads shopping parking - 2 hour max. read more

We had dinner at the restaurant with a group of friends. It's a small place, which is fine, not much by way of ambience, but my biggest reservation was the food. In general, the presentation was hardly anything French, and in particular the steak I had ordered was of low meat quality, devoid of taste, and for once, I only ate a few bites and left the remainder. The fries were dry and almost over cooked. On the plus side the warm bread was good and the crème brûlée was very tasty. As far as service was concerned, it was slow and the maître d' was aloof bordering on rudeness. I am afraid it's not an establishment that I would recommend or one I would go back. read more

We came here recently for our wedding anniversary, something we traditionally like to do (French restaurant). Unfortunately, the French restaurants we had gone to in the past (e.g. La Panetiere) are no longer in business. So we decided to find something new -- Encore. First of all, we loved the ambiance of the traditionally decorated room and the quiet, relaxed vibe. While we took our time all evening, we never felt pressured to order our next course or clear out. The wait service was attentive enough, but not on our backs, so to speak. As for the food, this was my first try for escargot, which I enjoyed. My wife's endive salad was not so impressive, although I am not a blue cheese dressing fan. For the main course, my wife was in heaven with her rack of lamb, while I was pleased but not overly impressed with my duck with orange sauce. The profiteroles dessert was great. So overall, we were very pleased and look forward to return. read more

Amazing restaurant for a special occasion. Lovely decor that made us feel like we were in France. The service was great. My husband had the oven roasted marrow bones followed by the rack of lamb. He said both were delicious and the lamb was cooked perfectly. I had the mussels followed by the scallops. Both were great. The vegetables that came with my meal were a bit on the cold side. For dessert we had a creme brûlée and crepes suzette. The creme brûlée was very tasty but we were underwhelmed by the crepe suzette. The cappuccinos were very good. Stumbled in on a quiet weekday afternoon for lunch, we were in the area and curious to try something different. Encore was beautiful and it felt like I was stepping into a true French bistro . The walls adorned with French art and mirrors , it was gorgeous and added to the elegant yet relaxed atmosphere . We were quickly greeted and sat, the lunch menu offers a little of everything. I enjoyed mussels in a white wine sauce paired with some delicious frites! The flavors of the mussels were overpowered by the olives in the dish and that took away from the white wine sauce , the portion was quite generous and the prices were reasonable. I loved the fries ( they had the perfect crunch ). My only issue here was the service was very delayed, the staff did not check in on us nor did they offer any suggestions from the menu, after desert we requested to see the menu once more and they never brought it to our table. I'm 50/50 on this place, I'd love to go and have great service, when you're dining you want to have the full experience of great service, food & ambience. read more

We went here for the pri fixe lunch today, and it was perfect! The ambiance is a lovely, understated bistro look, with Toulouse Latrec-style posters on the walls and chalkboards with the daily wines and lunch specials. The service was professional, friendly, and efficient. I ordered the bean soup, the salmon, and the chocolate mousse. It was an excellent deal for $20. I was most impressed by the thick, creamy tomato sauce that the salmon was served with. The chocolate mousse was especially dark and rich. Others at my party got the modules, the veal, and the banana dessert. Another person did not get the pre-fixe but got a salad with fried eggs. That salad took longer than it should have due to there being some kind of mistake in the cooking process, which our server informed us of. We appreciated being informed of the delay in a timely manner. I sampled everything and it was all delicious, although it was said that the veal was a bit too tough. As for the bread and butter that started the meal, the bread was a delicious baguette, but the butter was salted. I usually expect unsalted butter in French restaurants. That, plus the complaints about the tough veal, cost this place a star. read more

The Salad Nicoise is as close to the real deal from Nice that one can get. Moulles Frites are phenomenal and the portions are much more than one person can handle. Very disappointing! Stopped by with my son for a Friday night dinner, Service was not great, we saw the waiter 3 times, when he took our order, when he brought my wine and when he brought the check. My son's burger was very good, and recommend it, my rack of lamb was 3 small lamb chops, hardly a rack, and was cold. Had the Mousse and the apple tarte and was not impressed. I didn't like the small back room. The table next to us was the loudest I ever heard. The matrie d did nothing. It was so annoying. It was our 35th anniversary. We shared the duck and scallops which was excellent. Ice cream and cheese board for dessert. The cocktails were tasty. I had mussels as an appetizer which was very good too. They should've comped the dessert for such an uncomfortable feeling from the rambunctious table. Read the health dept notes. I didn't see them until now. I won't return. Poor health.. read more

Encore is such a great spot with an awesome menu. The atmosphere itself is more romantic perfect for 2-4 people. I started with the bone marrow and it was seasoned so nicely with garlic olive oil and herbs that complimented each other perfectly. Next I had the French onion soup which was phenomenal, it was rich broth with a great cheese pull. Next the grilled hanger steak with fries and the red wine gravy which, pulled the meal together and had the perfect amount of thickness to it. For dessert I got the apple tarte and creme brûlée which were both amazing in flavor. Neither one was too sweet which was the best way to end the night. Had never been, but got a table for family Mother's Day dinner last night. Bistro classics done right -- shared the bone marrow and whole artichoke; steak frites, duck a l'orange, scallops, garlic pasta; profitroles, mango/blueberry sorbets, molleux chocolat. Solid, well-executed dishes with decent portions to leave you satisfied with flavor but not over-full. Steak was quality, aged and properly cooked (not just flashed on the grill); scallops on a supple leek confit; duck with basically an orange butter caramel sauce. Profiteroles with real warm bittersweet chocolate sauce (as vs the thin syrup so often used now), and fondant melty, not runny or overly sugary. No surprise or stunning plating, but enjoyed our meal and attentive service (esp on what would be a busy night), backed by a good wine/drink list. read more

At this moment I am enjoying an espresso at Encore having consumed an outstanding lunch for less than it would have cost to prepare it at home. I don't know how they do it but if you have some interest in a fantastic lunch with excellent service then Encore is a must. Yesterday I enjoyed a simple typical area diner open face turkey sandwich with iced tea and coffee and was ok getting a check. Today, I started with a mesclun salad followed by fresh trout in a light caper sauce with cous cous and broccoli. Dessert was a Nutella crepe. It cost less than the diner food yesterday. Encore followed all the dining safety protocols. This may sound indulgent but in these crazy times it seems healthy to treat ourselves to a great dining experience for mental health reasons? read more

I live in Westchester County, and really wanted this restaurant to become a go to spot for my husband and I. Traveling to the city can get wearisome. Regretfully it probably won't. I must say that the servers were excellent... the hospitality is wonderful, as were the cocktails we ordered. My husband ordered the sweetbread which he loved, as well as the escargot... but the rest of the meal wasn't as enjoyable. Nice deal, old world ambience, and good food! My Dos Saumon had crisp skin, some sautéed spinach, couscous and turnips. The slices of baguette when heated up is crisp outside and light inside.
