Lamb shank
Rebecca M.

Came here with friends who live nearby for the first time and we were impressed all around. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy yet refined feeling, and highly recommend trying to sit in the comfy rounded booths. Everything we ordered was delicious, starting with the latkes with smoked salmon, crispy artichokes and French onion soup. Most appetizers were easily enough for two to three people. For entrees, two of us ordered the moules frites and both agreed the mussels were among the better ones they'd had in recent memory. The lamb shank was another standout, a very heart dish with a quite sizable rich piece of meat and delicious couscous studded with almonds and dried fruit. We were too full for dessert but did glimpse the special soufflé of the night walking over to another table and it looked divine! Would definitely return here!

My husband plays no games with his aunt's birthday and asked me if there's a place 'we haven't tried'(says the non-Yelper that he is). If we have to gauge tasty French food filled with escargots prepped in the truest sense, coq au vin, bouillabaisse, chocolate mousse, etc it'll have to be the now gone Pascal's near a Larchmont alleyway. Polar opposite of that, we've also had atrocious French food in places still standing in the county. Well, welcome to Bistro De Ville in Scarsdale. Located in the past 808 Social spot in Scarsdale, De Ville is bringing French food with diverse flavors+ tastes, seasonal and fresh ingredients and above all a unique cooking style. And yes, you're still getting many French classics here- but minus escargots ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Our hearts sank. Anyhow. Our Crab Meat Boats, Cod Croquettes and the Roasted Cauliflower were plentiful. Crab Boats and Roasted Cauliflower rocked. Cauliflower florets have the perfect sync of za'atar+harissa and chunky pistachios. Croquettes were unpleasant with only a smidge of cod. Main plates were also a highlight. Between hubs' Poulet Roti, auntie in Lw's roasted duck+cherries and my Swordfish 'Niçoise', every bite fused nicely. Auntie's Cosmo and my 'Fraise Fraîche' read nice on paper- but were weak. It'll be wine next time. But the grand finale of them all was THE chocolate mousse. The serving is generous. The mousse is a pile of fluff. It's airy. It's luxurious and damn....it's dark chocolatey. I'd make a freaking emergency detour primarily for their mousse! Our server Medina was adorable the entire time. Bistro De V. is easy-going. The owner(?) was also on hand. Honestly, coming here to celebrate hubs' aunt's birthday was a match made in heaven. We were seeking to indulge and indulge we did.

Had amazing lunch here! We started with the mousse de canard which was so delicious with the cornichons and the nice spicy mustard. Next, I had the mussels which were so plump and juicy in a delicious broth. Just excellent! My friend had an omelette with a salad which was perfectly done. For dessert, we had to order The gooseberry Clafoutis. Omg! It was buttery perfection! Our waiter was a doll, very nice and friendly. Overall it was a wonderful experience

A cute local french restaurant with super friendly service and owner. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. Ambiance is great - not too lowkey or too fancy which is perfect for a comfortable catch up. The food came out quickly and generous portion. There is no dedicated parking but metered parking in the area. Overall a great experience and would come back again to try dessert and other dish.

The ambiance and drinks are the best part of this place. I got the Maple Walnut Old Fashion which was pretty good. When I asked about the cod, they said it was a good dish. So one of my guests ordered the cod. They came back and told us they had just ran out. The manager came over a short while later and said that they had ran out at 6pm. So you are telling me that for 3 hours, your staff didn't know you had no cod left? The math just doesn't add up. It took 45 minutes for the food to come. The Boeuf Bourguignon was 25% fat. It's important to emphasize the extra kitchen share charge that's 3% of the bill. They said they implemented it during COVID, but this place has only been open 4 months. I have heard of the staff splitting the tip before but not making a mandatory charge on the whole bill....not something that should be a surprise at the end.

Bistro de Ville is a bit out of the main drag and into the gentle rolling hills of Scarsdale. While on route, you should take in the lush green old growth surroundings and houses as a bonus because Scarsdale is one of the most wealthiest city in Westchester County and the US. Just be warned that there were a lot of stop and go which may cause some motion discomfort. There are metered street parking near the restaurant. The exterior of the building is unassuming but once inside it opens up and transforms itself into a cute and warm French bistro. We went for lunch and it was fairly busy, but our friendly server took our orders quickly and filled our glasses with water and wine. The 3 course lunch menu is what most customers ordered and we did the same. Food is excellent, good quality, and light on the salt. Good portion and the fresh bread pudding is the best we have ever had. We will definitely repeat when in the area. Enjoy ...

Dinner menu (July 2025)

- Wonderful, warm & attentive service - Dishes were well-prepared with good presentation - Excellent ambiance and local/neighborhood bistro vibes. We could hardly tell we were seated just off of the busy Post Rd - Parking is plentiful Highly recommended!

Horrible service. Escargot tasted like it saw the year 2024. Owner is extremely rude. Avoid at all cost.

I even checked their website beforehand to see if they still served brunch, and they did still advertise the menu with items I remember having years ago. When we sat, they gave us just the lunch menu. I went up to our server and asked if they had a brunch menu, a waiter/manager (not our server) interrupted and said, "No we don't. You can go next door if you want brunch." I don't think he was trying to be rude, but his delivery was brash and I was taken aback, AND disappointed. We decided to stay because we knew their food from their lunch and dinner menu were also good (as we had fond memories from years ago). We ordered their pre fixe lunch menu which was a great deal for $22 - However, their portions were way too small. Had I known it was going to be so small, I would've just ordered from their regular menu. Their bread basket of sourdough bread is good, but comes cold ... along with their hard refrigerated butter in little packets. We had the cod for our entree, and it needed acidity like lemon or capers, it was quite bland, as was our kale salad starter that was supposed to have a mustard dressing, but we tasted no mustard. It was really flavorless. The chocolate mousse dessert was confusing as it was hard as if it was refrigerated as well, but it wasn't cold at all. I'm sad and disappointed it's not what it used to be, but we will remain reminiscing about the more joyous times we had in the 2000s at Encore.

Estelle did not have anything prepared ahead of time and was 15 minutes late. The assistant who was there to greet us seemed unhappy and annoyed that we were there and did not let us know Estelle was running late. When Estelle started the class there was no greeting or introduction and no instruction as to what the girls would be doing. She split the girls into two tables but the assistants were not able to give instructions so each table had to wait while Estelle worked with the other table. One of the assistants just kept rolling her eyes at the girls and repeating "I'm not the chef" and pointing to Estelle and saying to listen but there was no way for them to listen to the instruction because she was demonstrating with her back to them at the other table. So most of the time the girls were just sitting around waiting for instructions. When my co-leader tried to step in and help give instruction Estelle was extremely rude to her, and in front of the kids! The kids barely got to do any cooking. They basically just measured some ingredients into bowls and poured them into cupcake tins. These girls were between 9-14 years old and they have all been doing that since they were 3 and 4 years old. We thought they would be learning more than prepping ingredients and stirring ingredients around. When we asked if the girls would be doing any of the actual cooking Estelle told us she couldn't have them working with the hot oven. I asked my girls when we got home what they thought and they said it was boring and they didn't get to do any cooking, that Estelle did everything for them. The pictures of the shop online look nothing like what it actually looks like in person, which was very run down with stuff piled everywhere, no pastries in the cases, some dead plants in the window and very dirty. The fact that Estelle charged us $900, which is money the girls made themselves selling cookies, felt like a huge scam. I'm so bummed we wasted their hard earned money and our time at Estelle Gourmet.

I used to exclusively go here only in spring and enjoy the outdoor space. I've gone multiple times now in winter. They have nice flowers and art inside which is very nice to enjoy. For food we got the stuffed Sicilian, delicious. Then for entrees we got the pasta your way. We did penne alla vodka and added a crispy chicken cutlet. Their cutlets are nice and thin and crispy. Unfortunately, he was extremely dismissive and simply said no, then added that there were no tables available for us--which was odd considering the group right after us got seated immediately. I'm not sure if it was how we were dressed or what, but his overall attitude felt very cold and unwelcoming. We ended up sitting at the bar, and to be fair, Bill did help coordinate with the bartender Ana to get us seats together, which I appreciated. Ana herself was kind and attentive, though when we asked for food recommendations, she mostly just said "everything is great." I personally prefer a bit more honest guidance. For food, we shared the Hot Honey Roni Sicilian, Caesar salad, and calamari fritti. The pizza was definitely the highlight--super delicious and satisfying, especially as my first time trying that style. The Caesar salad was good, but for $16, I found the portion a bit small. The calamari was also solid, though we didn't love the sauce it came with. While we were eating, Bill noticed where we had placed our bikes (near the stairs where we could keep an eye on them) and came over rather abruptly, asking why they were in "his garden." Even after my friend apologized, he just walked away. His overall presence throughout the visit really hurt the experience--definitely not the kind of hospitality you expect. Overall, the experience was okay. The drinks were good, and my friend and I always make the best of things, but for the price point (about $80 each with two drinks and tip), I expected better service and slightly more generous portions. I'd consider going back, especially if we're biking in the area again--but next time, we'll definitely bring bike locks...and avoid the garden
