Having been to Paris once, I can say this brunch made us feel like we were right back in a cozy Parisian bistro. With both à la carte options and a $44 Prix Fixe menu, we went for the prix fixe -- and it was the best decision of the day. A truly enchanting brunch that felt as if we had slipped away to a cozy café in Paris. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, with live soft jazz music setting the perfect tone. The staff was warm and attentive, anticipating every need -- even the bread served with a luxurious French butter with black sea salt was top notch. No land Lake served on their tables. Cocktails Bloody Mary -- perfectly mixed, bright and briny with just the right touch of horseradish Peach Bellini -- light, fruity, and beautifully balanced Appetizers Salmon Tartare -- diced fresh tuna , with a vibrant pesto sauce, served with crisp baguette toasts. Not only did the food roll off my tongue, but it was a substantial first course. Hubby opted for the Soup du jour, a comforting individual tureen of butternut squash soup, delicately garnished with sunflower seeds -- savory with just a hint of sweetness, the perfect bowl for a cold, rainy day. I had a few spoonfuls and can agree it was delicious and warming. Entrées So many options I really had a tough time picking one. So many classic French dishes, but the buckwheat crepe won out. Came here with friends who live nearby for the first time and we were impressed all around. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy yet refined feeling, and highly recommend trying to sit in the comfy rounded booths. Everything we ordered was delicious, starting with the latkes with smoked salmon, crispy artichokes and French onion soup. Most appetizers were easily enough for two to three people. For entrees, two of us ordered the moules frites and both agreed the mussels were among the better ones they'd had in recent memory. The lamb shank was another standout, a very heart dish with a quite sizable rich piece of meat and delicious couscous studded with almonds and dried fruit. My husband plays no games with his aunt's birthday and asked me if there's a place 'we haven't tried'(says the non-Yelper that he is). If we have to gauge tasty French food filled with escargots prepped in the truest sense, coq au vin, bouillabaisse, chocolate mousse, etc it'll have to be the now gone Pascal's near a Larchmont alleyway. Polar opposite of that, we've also had atrocious French food in places still standing in the county. Well, welcome to Bistro De Ville in Scarsdale. Located in the past 808 Social spot in Scarsdale, De Ville is bringing French food with diverse flavors+ tastes, seasonal and fresh ingredients and above all a unique cooking style. And yes, you're still getting many French classics here- but minus escargots ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Our hearts sank. Anyhow. Our Crab Meat Boats, Cod Croquettes and the Roasted Cauliflower were plentiful. Crab Boats and Roasted Cauliflower rocked. Cauliflower florets have the perfect sync of za'atar+harissa and chunky pistachios. Croquettes were unpleasant with only a smidge of cod. Main plates were also a highlight. Between hubs' Poulet Roti, auntie in Lw's roasted duck+cherries and my Swordfish 'Niçoise', every bite fused nicely. Auntie's Cosmo and my 'Fraise Fraîche' read nice on paper- but were weak. It'll be wine next time. But the grand finale of them all was THE chocolate mousse. The serving is generous. The mousse is a pile of fluff. It's airy. It's luxurious and damn....it's dark chocolatey. I'd make a freaking emergency detour primarily for their mousse! Had amazing lunch here! We started with the mousse de canard which was so delicious with the cornichons and the nice spicy mustard. Next, I had the mussels which were so plump and juicy in a delicious broth. Just excellent! My friend had an omelette with a salad which was perfectly done. The ambiance and drinks are the best part of this place. I got the Maple Walnut Old Fashion which was pretty good. When I asked about the cod, they said it was a good dish. So one of my guests ordered the cod. They came back and told us they had just ran out. The manager came over a short while later and said that they had ran out at 6pm. So you are telling me that for 3 hours, your staff didn't know you had no cod left? The math just doesn't add up. It took 45 minutes for the food to come. The Boeuf Bourguignon was 25% fat. It's important to emphasize the extra kitchen share charge that's 3% of the bill. They said they implemented it during COVID, but this place has only been open 4 months. I have heard of the staff splitting the tip before but not making a mandatory charge on the whole bill....not something that should be a surprise at the end. read more

Bistro de Ville is a bit out of the main drag and into the gentle rolling hills of Scarsdale. While on route, you should take in the lush green old growth surroundings and houses as a bonus because Scarsdale is one of the most wealthiest city in Westchester County and the US. Just be warned that there were a lot of stop and go which may cause some motion discomfort. There are metered street parking near the restaurant. The exterior of the building is unassuming but once inside it opens up and transforms itself into a cute and warm French bistro. We went for lunch and it was fairly busy, but our friendly server took our orders quickly and filled our glasses with water and wine. The 3 course lunch menu is what most customers ordered and we did the same. Food is excellent, good quality, and light on the salt. This was visit # 3 to what is quickly becoming one of my wife's favorite restaurants. I deviated from my usual chicken dish and tried the cod which I really enjoyed. I asked for a side of the potato dish that comes with the chicken entree and they were able to make it happen. The Duck Canard was rated as excellent. For starters we had the caesar salad, Pomme Aligot and beet salad- all excellent. The place was very hopping on a Friday night and the spirit was festive. Tables are very close together on the back wall of the restaurant but it didn't really bother us. We dined with friends who are true cocktail lovers and they praised the acumen of the bartender with the curated cocktails they ordered- there was a sidecar and French Manhattan. We had an interesting experience with our server Phillip W. From my vast restaurant experience (as customer, worker and instructor) I knew right away that he was new to the restaurant. Service was a bit lagged (wine delivered at the same time as the app's) but the guy was so nice and personable it was easily overlooked. He eventually got his sea legs and was able to leverage his caring personality for success. It wound up being his first day flying solo on the floor. Speaking of success- the Grand Marnier souffle was excellent.... I am really glad that this restaurant is doing well. We will try again soon with a visit to the bar- for cocktails and to eat at the bar for a different perspective. read more

It wasn't super welcoming when our party of 3 arrived and checked in with our reservation. We were seated and were asked if we wanted to order drinks but didn't have menus . When they brought over the menus, they said they only had 2. They weren't packed so how they don't have enough menus . They brought over a bottle of still water which we didn't order and got charged for so that was a little annoying . And then the food - the presentation is nice but lacks flavor and depth . The wait staff didn't know much about the menu nor could suggest any dishes . I don't think I left wanting to return and hoping an actual French restaurant comes in the area ! read more

Our friends got a table at this Scarsdale newcomer. The place has a nice vibe. Our friends wanted to dine outdoors. There is a row of small tables. Two were pushed together to accommodate our party. It was tight, but OK. The waitstaff were lovely, but the service isn't dialed in yet. Cocktails were solid. The food was excellent. My wife and I shared a great Caesar salad to start. The entrees were uniformly excellent. I really enjoyed my duck. The chicken and steak were really good. The chef is an alchemist with potatoes. The frites, aligot and de ville potatoes were off the charts. The desserts were great too. Five stars for the food, three stars for the service. I have to point out a pet peeve of mine. There's a 3% surcharge for the "kitchen share." What's the point of this? Is it virtue signaling? Credit card surcharges are annoying, but I understand this is an attempt to influence customer behavior so that they pay cash. Most restaurant patrons aren't interested in how the staff are paid. Increasing the price of the duck from $40 to $41 or $42 would not discourage the average patron from ordering it. Please price your menu the way that you need to and be done with it. We went for restaurant week only to find out that on Friday they do not have the restaurant week menu at night. The staff had already made accommodations for us because my girlfriend handicapped and took my reservation over the phone because I couldn't do it online. The manager took his time to get her a table to accommodate her with crutches .The food is a 5 star experience but the service is about a 3 star experience unfortunately the service although very kind didn't tell me they had specials. I heard someone else being told about the specials after we had ordered.We waited a good 15 minutes for a drink order and kind of forgot about us intermittently. They were extremely busy so I still tipped them well because I thought it might have been unintentional. this is not to detract anyone from going it's got lovely charm a wonderful busto feel you can eat outside with your dog and beautiful bar I'd love to return and try it again be aware it is street parking. read more

It was my Wife and my 46th Anniversary and I had a desire to find a French Restaurant. Hadn't been to a French Restaurant in a long time but had passed this Bistro, kinda hidden on a side street in Scarsdale, a bunch of times as our Periodontist was just around the corner while other Scarsdale Physicians were also close by. Nuthin' like being a senior citizen and traveling to Drs. Takes you off the beaten path giving the opportunity to drive past a bunch of places and establishments. Took my wife, daughter to Bistro de Ville and celebrated our anniversary. Was pleasantly impressed with the high quality of the food and the informal bistro feel of the interior. There was outdoor seating but I rarely enjoy dining outdoors unless the location feels natural to choose that. Our Anniversary was on a Monday so the Bistro was not crowded nor noisy. Service was attentive and timely. Prices were relatively reasonable, as compared to. another French oriented restaurant in Scarsdale. The broth of the onion soup, which is always a deal breaker for me, was excellent. Finished the bowl, a rarity for all of us. The Rib Eye for two with Bernaise was huge and cooked to perfection. The accompanying Frites were hot and tasty. My daughter was very pleased with the complicated salad she ordered. I believe it was Cauliflower. Completed the meal by sharing a wonderful, lightly crusted crème brûlée. Everyone was very impressed with the experience. A note re the check I hadn't encountered before. There was a 3% tip added into the total for the chef!. Interesting, as the chef is really at the heart of the kitchen's choice of basic food purchases and its ultimate preparation. Being generous with 4 stars simply because they're so new and they have kinks to work out. I'd really rate it a 3, but the dessert adds an entire star. We had really high hopes considering we enjoy the other 2 restaurants in this group. The decor inside is adorable. It's a small space, but doesn't feel it. The bar is a happening place - though the shelves behind the bar are quite sparse. Maybe it will fill in time? The chairs, while perfectly French bistro-esque are quite small and may be uncomfortable for some. The menu is laid out in an odd way. One side lists cocktails, wines, and other beverages. The top half of the other side is more alcohol and in the same font, with little separation is the food menu on the bottom. That can use some tweaking for sure. When I ordered for my husband and I, I mentioned that we'd be sharing everything and said "we'd like to start with..., then have the..., and finally the..." the mussels and salad were brought out at the same time. Not ideal, since we were sharing and the table was tiny but we made it work. The Ceasar salad was delicious. Very untraditional, using homemade bread crumbs, thin pickled red onions, and a hard boiled egg. The lettuce wasn't whole leaf, but wasn't chopped to bite sized either, so it required some cutting to eat. The mussels were disappointing. Not enough broth and not enough flavor in the little broth there was. Many of the mussels were stringy and hard to remove. The mussels came with (very good) fries. So when we ordered the steak frites as well, we asked to swap the fries for a green veg. The (wonderful, attentive) waiter came back after asking and said we could only substitute for the other potato option - mashed potatoes with Gruyère. They were very good, but it would have been nice to swap out for some green - even if there was a nominal surcharge. We weren't given the option. I heard someone else ask the exact same thing as we were finishing up. The steak was cooked well and was well seasoned. We saw the staff dishing out the chocolate mousse and it looked delicious, but we opted for the espresso pot de creme and O.M.G. It was so so so fantastic. It was silky and light and had intense coffee flavor. The chocolate covered espresso beans were unlike any I have had before - they weren't hard beans nor were they too sweet/candy-like. Wow is all I have to say. I would go back tomorrow for that dessert, but I'll give it some time before I return again for dinner. read more

I probably paid for the entire bottle for 2 oz of wine. Food: The onion soup was thin and not too flavorful with a very chewy cheese. The burgers, although supposedly rare, were more like medium, but very dry, not juicy at all. The duck was just OK m with the confit very salty. The biggest objection was the 3% added amount to the bill for "kitchen staff". Why don't they just raise the prices?. I've dined at a lot of French restaurants, in and outside France, and Bistro de Ville is exactly like what another reviewer claimed, a gem of a place that would be welcome in any French town. The service is professional, which is to say that they know all about what they're serving and how to serve it. The ambience is casual but with a touch of elegance. And the food is superlative. The Caesar salad is the only one I've had within recent memory that marries the greens to the dressing without glop, adding the anchovies that are part of this classic dish. The trout almondine had a zesty kick of butter and lemon, and the salmon came medium rare, as requested, on a bed of fava beans. The chocolate mousse--I don't have enough words here.
