Cute and delicious cafe on the 101! Very small town and home-y vibe. We came to celebrate my nephews 6th grade promotion celebration. I had a single breakfast sandwich of bacon and eggs with a side of home fries. The rest of the table ordered things like chicken fried steak, eggs Benedict, pancakes and omelets. Everyone seems happy with their meals and I was too. The breakfast sandwich and home fries weren't anything out of the world or something I couldn't have made at home but still tasty and worth it. Prices are on par with most places in the area, higher than it should be but you're in Encinitas and on the 101, so we expect it. Staff is kind and friendly! I stopped here for breakfast my last day in Encinitas after a two day staycation. The ambiance is old school cafe, which I loved. I was able to be seated right away. I was offered coffee which I definitely said yes! I ordered two eggs with sausage links (my go to) and home fries and toast. The eggs were done the way I liked (no runny yoke, yay!) and the sausage links were amazing! I was able to get in and out within 45 minutes on a busy holiday weekday (Presidents day). Encinitas Cafe is nothing fancy. It's one of a vanishing breed of restaurants along the 101: your basic, straightforward diner. It boasts no peach kombucha frappes; there are no vegan buffalo sliders. The simple decor has been the same since I first graced its doors over twenty years ago. For the twenty-something hipsters and the thirty-something Tesla-driving New Agers, this is definitely not the place. It has no riz. For everyone else, it's hard to find a better all-rounder. They have a broad assortment of breakfast and lunch offerings, ranging from minimal to the ample. Coffee rolls like the Jordan River. And they have some surprising strengths: their Reuben sandwiches, for example are better than you find in local Jewish delis. Their meat loaf is excellent. To be sure, like everywhere else, prices have risen considerably in the last few years. And much of their food is pretty standard fare; some dishes might be stronger (the omelets come to mind). But it says a lot for any establishment that much of their staff and menu remain the same. The quality is generally good, the service friendly and attentive. And the vibe at Encinitas Cafe is what it should be: a local eatery that continues to favor substance over fads. read more

A fine turkey sandwich cut directly off the bird needed only a few more dabs of mayo, which was promptly provided upon my request. My waitress even offered to refill and package up my iced tea to go when I left. The name has changed but the old Coffee Mill lives on in the fresh turkey and vintage fixtures. We sat on the patio, waiting for almost 15 minutes to place our food order. 3 other tables sat done after us. Finally a waitress came out to take orders, she took orders from all of the other tables before us. The toast came out 15 minutes before the food, it was cold by the time our food came out. She did offer fresh toast, we declined. I had the Ortega & Jack omelette, the sauce tasted like tomatoes out of a can, no flavor. Service was very slow & food was below average. Diner cafe on the Encinitas main strip. We got the corned beef hash and turkey club. Corned beef hash was good, had a lot of flavor, the potatoes that came with it were a little bland but the hash made up for it. The turkey club is made with their own roasted turkey which sounded appealing but over all it was a bit dry. Reminded me of thanksgiving leftovers. We had to ask for mayo on the side. The bread was also a little hard...you know the roof cutter kind lol. Don't get me wrong wasn't bad but not something I would order again. I'll stick to breakfast next time. After seeing this across the street from Hwy 101 cafe, we chose to make this our final spot for breakfast. They had plenty of seating and it was nice and shady. I felt like a breakfast burrito and was not let down by my bacon, egg and cheese combination. I was a little surprised they didn't put the has browns in so I had to order those on the side. They were crispy and delicious. My girlfriend ordered two eggs over easy with bacon and hash browns. She chose to have their biscuit and gravy and she enjoyed it very much. The service was good and we are happy of the suggestion of this place and of coming here. Hopefully, with every other place we had breakfast, I can give a more detailed account of what things look like inside. read more

Totally loved the food here. Also the service was amazing. I went with my mother and she actually forgot her wallet on the chair and we left! The employees there made the effort to contact her and they did! We where worried sick for her wallet for two days when they called our apartment complex in Anaheim! To tell us they found her wallet. Classic diner food that's no frills - walked away super satisfied! Giving them go 4 stars because Honeys across the street is honestly better (sorry y'all)! This morning we had the bacon avocado cheddar omelette, hash browns, biscuit and gravy, with a cinnamon roll. I would highly recommend the biscuit +gravy as a side instead of toast - was def my favorite of everything - gravy is super tasty! Could have skipped the cinnamon roll - i like a decadent cream cheese icing on my CRs and in this case the icing was meh more of a thick glaze and came out cold but we took it to go and heated it up at home - was much better warm! Herb and sea across the street has a bomb cinnamon roll if you're looking for something sweet after - could probably call and grab one to go :) I've had the corned beef hash before too - it's really good try that too if you're into it! read more

Not what it used to be but what restaurant is? The biscuits used to be 3 inches tall and the gravy was incredible. Now shorter biscuits that don't have the fluffiness and flavor and the gravy isn't quite as delectable as it was 25-30 years ago. I'd rather pay more and get the goods. The chicken fried steak is wimpy compared to what it used to be. This is how I judge a breakfast place because anybody can cook two eggs and bacon. I am forced to admit two things about Encinitas Cafe. First, in over 15 years of living in this city, I had never eaten here until now. And second, on my first trip here for breakfast, all I had was the a Biscuit w/Gravy. On that merit alone, this place ain't horrible. It was a corn meal biscuit with a good size (especially of the cost), served warm, and looked very homemade. It had a nice sweet taste and held up well under the the cut of the fork, resisting the crumble of so many biscuits before it. The country gravy was about average, with too small chunks of sausage and not enough salt or pepper, it has that "playing it safe" feel to it when scooping it into the mouth. My wife had The Spinach, Mushrooms and Cheese Three Egg Omelette, which was of an impressive size (eat your heart out, Breakfast Republic!). She shrugged her shoulders at it, for the most part, and they had apparently forgotten to add cheese to it before serving. Her favorite part of her breakfast was evidently the wheat toast as she had made sure I made note of it as part of my review draft. Ultimately, Encinitas Cafe has never caught my attention before as it looks and feels like a standard diner, much like the 101 across the street. With so many other interesting spots in downtown Encinitas, it pretty much snuck under the radar. I will say that it is an obvious step up over Denny's and Coco's (both of which have, thankfully, long departed the city limits), but it still feels like an about average place to grab a meal in both style and variety. One thing that has grabbed my attention is their 2-for-1 deal on Monday burgers which, when we get tried of the similar deal at the Encinitas Ale House down the block, will more than likely sneak back in here to sample. It's just plain dry and tasted days old..Service is almost non existing the famous French toast is on regular thin sandwich bread and you only get the one small slice for $8.00!!! This place was soooo good! I wish it was open later for a nice meal in between bar hopping because it's in the perfect location. The place was very cute and surprisingly empty around 8pm. What I loved about this place is they serve breakfast all day! I had ordered an egg meal which came with a lot of food and was a great price! Everything was cooked perfect and the hash browns were so crunchy and delicious. The biscuit and gravy was also very good, the biscuit was a little to hard for my liking but overall it was still excellent. The French toast portion was huge! Definitely shareable. The mimosas were a great price and had a generous amount of champagne. Service was great the entire time, very friendly. We even had one of our food items comped because it took a while. Very nice of them! Overall great place. Delicious food and great service. If you're craving breakfast any time of the day this is the place to go! read more

I was a bit reluctant in going to another Dinner in Encinitas because of a horrible experience I had in the dinner across the street...but... This place is awesome. First the staff: they have been working there forever, know their selection by heart, give good recommendation and will take their time explaining each question you have, the composition of each dish..etc. The encinitas cafe almost exclusively uses fresh produces. They even roast their own turkey. Our waitress told us that there might be 1 or 2 frozen ingredient for the whole menu... Enough said, now, the food! Well, everything tasted home made. Like delicious family cooked dishes. The banana cake? Succulent. I usually never, ever eat cake or anything sweet but that cake, I could have eaten two slices! The Encinitas scramble? nice, juicy, well seasoned and prepared. The home fries were super duper crispy (as per my request), very fresh, I could taste right away it was home made with good potatoes. Encinitas Cafe is a staple in town... well run, friendly staff (ask for Erica but all the staff is super nice) and the food is ample and delicious. I had four kids and we have never left without smiles from them and they are very picky. I should add, this is a great place for kids and families and the occasional dog (outside seating. Bring your pup and they will add to their Instagram.) Overall, we just love this place and their staff and have been coming for a couple of years now. Meal today was $68 for family of 6. read more

Server was very friendly. Water and drinks came out promptly. Food was served quickly, without sacrificing proper serving temperature for each dish. The atmosphere was laid back, the check came only at the end of the meal. It would have been 5 stars had it not been for this portly man who motioned to take away my son's plate which had half a burger and untouched fries still on it; everyone at our table was still eating. We were in the middle of a conversation over our lunch when this happened. It was very unnecessarily intrusive; very off-putting. Also, this man and the other busboys were congregating at this particular section (coffee station with a table full of condiments) just gabbing. We debated whether or not to deduct from the gratuity; but, it's no fault of the server. She deserved her full tip. So, we just decided to leave this review, with the hopes of the restaurant reading this, and hopefully, creating a more pleasant experience for the diners. read more
