My mom had a great experience here, but mine wasn't the same. I believe it was just my technician because the other customers there seemed happy. We came as a walk-in for a no-chip pedicure and were taken quickly, I liked the overall vibe and color selection. My nail technician seemed distracted watching TV most of the time. Her long hair was down and it kept touching my feet throughout the pedicure which was uncomfortable. While filing my nails she was distracted from the TV and cut my skin which made my toe bleed, she didn't acknowledge it or apologize, even when I pulled away from pain. On the positive side, the leg scrub was thorough and my nails lasted a long time. I don't think she meant any harm, but still injured me without apologizing. Overall my experience was decent, for this specific technician paying more attention to the client and their nails would improve the experience. read more

I absolutely recommend Hugo for a pedicure. He is the Doctor of pedicures!! The massage on your legs goes on for at least 40 minutes. My toe polish always lasts I think because of the way he preps the nails. Amazing!!! I highly recommend Jenny for manicure. She is so kind and very intentional with her technique. I have done no chip with her & now I do dipping which lasts me at least going into 4th week. We were in the Naperville area and wanted to get pedicures. We stumbled into this place because they were accepting walk ins and were close to where we were. This was my boyfriend's first pedicure and he went in not expecting to love it as much as he did! This place felt a little more luxe than the places I go to for pedicures so I'm glad my boyfriend got a good experience! Upon being seated, we got the choice to pick a scent (lavender, olive, green tea) which is what will be used for the water, the scrub, and the lotion they use at the end- which I thought was really cool since more places I go to just use the general salts and scrub. The lady that helped me was super nice and patient when I was choosing a color. I believe they also provide drinks and wine since there was a drink fridge and wine bottles on the wall, but we didn't get offered any and were too shy to ask but if it's provided, we'll be sure to enjoy it next time. After the pedicure, and after giving us time to dry, they had us sit at the regular waiting seats and they gave us a nice little shoulder massage which was just the icing on the cake for my boyfriend! There was construction going on at the front so be mindful when coming into the suite. Overall, really great experience! No one was mentioning the price, but the price for a basic pedicure was $38 but for what you get, I think it's worth it! read more

I came in to the shop last night, asking for a hard gel. The lady I spoke with understood what I was asking, and I ran out to get a sandwich next-door and when I came back, she told me she was ready. She took off my old polish and then told me that she was going to use powder because they couldn't find the hard gel and the owner said powder would be fine. That was not what I wanted or asked for and I asked for it multiple times to make sure that we understood the same thing. I asked to talk to the owner and he never came back out, and I made it very clear to the lady doing my nails that this was not what I had asked for. They still charge me full price and said sorry. Overall, my nails looked good. I got a french tip acrylic - But, I ended up with an infection that I needed to go to the doctor for (it was bad). I had my wedding this past weekend. I made this very clear & ended up with a cut on my ring finger that ended up red, puffy, infected & oozing. Obviously, not ideal given my wedding photos & my ring finger. Her leg massages are to die for, and she paints swiftly and efficiently. She is also just so welcoming and caring during the entire service, and will walk you to the front to ensure you're all set with the check out process. Their pricing is also some of the best I've seen in Naperville. You can expect to pay $71 for a no-chip and a pedi. I will say, Jenny is not great at designs so trust that someone else will most likely need to get pulled in. There's plenty of parking in the lot and lots of room inside. They do take appointments if you need to secure a time and they offer many services for your nail needs. My nails look super even and totally taken care of despite my cuticles looking like how they did from this winter weather and my nails being short. I went in on a weekday in the afternoon and they accepted my mom and I as walk ins right away. We both got gel manis and I didn't know they charged $35 for a gel manicure (I'm used to $30) but it turned out so nice that I'm ok with the price! If you get something extra then it will probably be a $5 charge. For example, I got the "cat eye" gel mani (check out the pic). I wanted to try it because I've seen lots of pics of it online and wondered how it was done. The "cat eye" nail polish is actually magnetic, so they hold a magnet at an angle above your nail, and it moves the polish to form an angle. I wouldn't get this every time but definitely worth it to try once! Overall, I thought my nail tech was really nice, but some of the others weren't as friendly as my lady. I appreciate the extra effort they put into the manis. My only issue is $35 for a gel mani (and mine came out to $40 because of the $5 charge for the cat eye)... Full set (35 with coffin shaping) : Great polish work, perfect length, perfect shape. He even cut all my cuticles off and didn't leave any dead skin. Basic Pedicure (30): She massaged for a very long time, but unfortunately there was no pressure so I didn't feel it. She did however get ALL of my callous, cut my cuticles, trimmed and shaped my toe nails, and did a great job on my polish. The basic pedicure comes with an oil and hot towels. This place is trash. Nail tech was talking to another client the entire time she was working on my nails. She was so distracted talking she cut my cuticle and drew blood... I let it slide until she cut another finger because she was so distracted. At that point, I didn't want to waste any money there because she obviously doesn't value customer service? The tech still charged me $18 although she didn't paint my nails or anything. Now I have two bandages and bare nails. Save your money and go to GLO down the street. read more

Per my hard hitting Quick Tip, their massaging pedi chairs really "get all up in your B-hole." Like whoa. Now, I haven't decided whether I'm going to file that under the 'good' or 'bad' touch category as of yet; I'm leaning towards bad, however, I will admit that I pressed the butt button *at least* three times, even after I knew it really f*ckin' hurt the first time. So take my massage masochism for what it's worth. Bimonthly (meaning twice a month, not every 2 months-btw), I like to get a little rehabbing and polish change on my nails and a pedi- because even though my personal affairs and affects might be a mess, my digitals are ALWAYS in some sort of order. On this particular visit, I chose for that order to be communicated in the form of sparkle, and lots of it- butt loads, if you will. What I liked about this nail salon goes a little something like this: The best cuticle work I've ever had, the shape of my nails was stellar, and they have a more than decent color selection with tons of sparkle selection- which is not normally my thing at all but they had a variety of really teeny tiny fine glitter polishes and I really wanted them to spackle on the sparkle so at the end my nails would look like they'd been dipped in mercury. What I wasn't so fond of was the cramped and kinda cluttered look of the space. Some feng shui 101 is defo in order here and maybe it's the blank walls, or that there's a few too many chairs or tables but it just wasn't cozy; like the DMV of nail salons. Also, the teen working the front desk was testing my patience with her inability to STFU and stop whining about every little thing that popped into her head, and I mainly wasn't a fan of how hostile it felt in there between the employees. No smiling, not much talking, and just an overall uncomfortable + awkward vibe. Plus, my guy was kind of a crabby patty know it all. I wanted a base coat and glitter on top and he wouldn't stop trying to convince me that all I wanted was glitter. Literally 10 minutes of going back and forth while he just kept saying it'd be too thick and wouldn't look right but FINALLY, he realized I had sparkle on the brain and that I wasn't going to give up on my argument, so he quit his bitchin' and painted my digits up real nice like- and guess what guys? My nails looked f*cking fantastic and I got sososoooo many compliments on how shiny and minx-y they looked. So, myeh. I win. I kind of want to go back for the intense cuticle treatment they do, but if getting the blue and gold sparkle tips I want is going to be such an ordeal, well, I think Everclear puts it best: Sparkle and Fade. read more

I'm not a nail person. I think it's a waste of money when I can paint my nails myself. But I will pay to get my eyebrows 'did' because tweezing is painful. I like it quick, so waxing is the way to go. When I first moved out here in February, I searched the area for a place to get my eyebrows waxed. Since it is Naperville, a lot of the places were extremely overpriced. Probably because they massage your face and put little cucumbers over your eyes as they pour hot wax on your brows. I'm not into that. I was referred to Empress from a friend and the price was right ($10). I have been coming here every week and I have always been satisfied. I'm pretty particular about my brows, but they do a great job and they are quick about it. No BS. I don't call ahead for an appointment, and every time I show up, they always take me immediately. I have not waited once since I have been coming here which is great (getting your nails done is a completely different story. Always a long wait unless you have an appointment). It's very clean and well kept in here. Everything is organized and for the most part every one is friendly. The only reason I gave it four stars is because the ladies that normally do my brows don't talk to me at all. They just smile and nod their head, do the job, take my money, and push me right on out of there. Sometimes that's great when I'm in a hurry, but I like a little personality and conversation. Again, I can't speak about nails but I know a few people who go here and their nails always look really great. One thing that's such a drag about moving is finding new places for all the little essentials: dry cleaners, oil changes, and pedicures (yeah, you heard me, that's my trifecta). When I moved north to Naperville, I had to find a nail place that was close by, but didn't want to look right in the downtown area because I figured it would be too $$$. Thus I lit upon Empress Nails, in the shopping complex with Trader Joes. I went on a Friday night, so it was quiet and they easily took me as a walk-in. The place was not fancy but was tidy (one of the guys was energetically sweeping as I came in). The now-ubiquitous flat-screen tv on the wall played "Night at the Museum", otherwise it was pretty mellow. Since we were at the end of winter, I hadn't bothered with a true pedicure in a while (why when they're hidden in boots for months?) So it was nice to get the real deal versus doing the home version. My technician went at me with the nippers with an OCD-like intensity; she probably spent 15 minutes alone on my cuticles. The paint job looked good (and still does two weeks later, not a single chip -- of course with the recent unseasonable cold weather we've only just busted out the open-toed shoes in the past few days, but as klutzy as I am, I regularly bash my toes on things while walking barefoot through the house, and they've survived intact, so that says something!) (eta: 3 weeks now and some open-toed-shoe-wearing with the nicer weather: still no chips! Wow.) The pedicure was $30, which is starting to verge on big-spender territory for a standard-type one (nothing added, etc.) in my book, but since it lasted a long time it wasn't a waste. I may test-drive some other places around here to compare, but I know if nothing else I have a nearby go-to in the Empress. We'll see if they end up being the crown jewel of Naperville nails. read more

Been coming to Empress for over a year now. They've been very consistent with a great no-chip and pedi. A few times, they were able to satisfy my request for a simultaneous no-chip mani, pedi AND wax service, all while relaxing in the message chair. Superb as that cut my service time in 1/2. They do offer $5 off for a Google or Yelp review (total $10) which is a nice perk, but my review is based on honesty anyway. Side note: my mom recently had her nails done there (she gets acrylic tips) and was very displeased. I agree they looked clumpy and not as good as her regular nail spa in Orland Park. I've only gotten one pedicure here so far, but it was over two weeks ago and still looks shiny and perfect - no chips or flaws. Yeah, it should look great after a few weeks, but consider I've had my toes in the pool and the sand a lot lately - I usually WASTE my pedicures fast in the summertime. The experience was good. Plus she is super nice. Nobody else there is as good as she is. Like a lot of nail salons recently, they only accept cash for tips. While I understand this, I do not have a bank in Illinois I use shared banking and getting cash is not alway easy. They act like they are doing me a favor by allowing me to tip on my card. The first time they told me they would do me a favor and let me tip on my card. They next time I didn't have cash they were rude and acted like I was an inconvenience to put it on the card. Honestly if it's such a big deal then why even allow it as a option. The last time I went they were talking bad about a young girl that came in her bathing suit cover up like she was naked or something. You could not see anything but could tell she was uncomfortable as they were literally pointing her out and laughing. The last straw was when I got a manicure and pedicure Saturday night the tools weren't cleaned before she tried to start using them on me and I asked her to please get clean tools. She did but not before she had a huge attitude. I only had $5 cash and she kept pointing at the receipt saying "bill $45 ! Only $5 tip?!" She was so rude and rushed through my mani paint. The next morning my mani was chipped halfway off. I went back the next day and requested a change of color and they tried to charge me for a full mani. I couldn't take it anymore and just walked out. Polish lasted 6 days before chipping and I was pleased. 2nd: average wait, tech spent lots of time on my cuticles. Cuticles looked amazing! Polish lasted 2 days before chipping. 3rd: went in at 1pm on Sunday and was told to come back later due to long wait. I was short on time and did not return. Went in for a mani/pedi before a trip that ended up severely chipping 2 days in. I went in when I got back to complain about it and they said regular polish is designed to last only a few days. They offered to fix it which was nice, but that ended up chipping the same night. I know that no-chip nail polish exists, however regular nail polish should last longer than a few days. Additionally, many people's previous comments about the environment are true. Lots of yelling between nail technicians. I was incredibly disappointed as this place is a nice location.
