VS not doing anything and being closed off to any other possibilities even though in my opinion is as obvious as day I'm on a hoa board where empire sold a two coat job and in my professional opinion did a 1 coat job. Do not recommend. First off, they put notices on tenants doors stating when they're coming over, but then they'll miss the mark by 1-3 days, coming too early when outdoor furniture is still out... or overly late when least expected. Workers are noisy and disruptive and feel entitled to shout and carry on, ladders are cheap and jangly - it's a whole big huge ruckus. And don't expect efficiency. Not much respect for residents - HOA regrets contracting with them. read more

Our building was in dire need of a paint job, not just for aesthetic reasons, but also for the structural integrity of the stucco. As president of my complex's HOA, I dad our property manager get three bids for the project. The project ended up including minor stucco repair, painting two coats on the buildings in the complex, and painting handrails, front doors, security doors, and garages. Our HOA decided to go with EmpireWorks because they came highly recommended from our property management company and because Tabor and James presented themselves professionally and knowledgeable when the surveyed the property with me prior to signing with them. Ricardo was our project supervisor, and Salvador was our foreman. They were both very communicative and easy to work with. Tabor, who did the initial walkthrough with us, was our project contact. She was great. Very responsive to calls, texts, and emails. Though I felt our project was rather simple, it still had plenty of hiccups (e.g., rain, changes to design decisions, etc.) and Tabor took each obstacle with stride. The end result was beautiful. The buildings look great. Empire Works responded to every critique we had and remedied problems immediately. Victor and his crew are absolutely amazing. They are professional, helpful, kind, caring and meticulous. They are neat and clean. How many painters can say that, there is always some mess but not with these people because they care. They are painting our 15 year old complex and making it look brand new! They care about the home owners too! They work around you needing to get in and out of your garage that is a level that's rarely seen in business today. The first phase of work for our 21-unit HOA was on the roof. Empire reported there was "a problem" with my AC unit and that of two neighbors. We had an AC technician come out to take a look, and he said there was an obvious "mishap" that took place during the demo phase of Empire's work, and even noted that on his invoice to me. Nevertheless, Empire claimed it was not their fault and refused to rembursè for the $250 repair. As the HOA made the contract, not me, I had no leverage beyond hoping that Empire would do the right thing: no such luck. So much for their ethics. As for the rest of the work, the project is not complete, so we'll see how it goes. I can say that they installed new fire doors, but when homeowners checked, several doors had gaps, were poorly hung etc, so after the complaints, the BOD president had to call for them to reinspect the work and correct the issues. Let's hope the next phase goes better, although as three families in the complex are already "collateral damage" I am not real hopeful. read more

It's extremely sad during these time to write a poor review for any company, but here it goes. This company was hired to paint our complex and if I could leave no stars I would. There was ample signage provided on what to do with personal belongings to avoid damage prior to painting, which was read and even followed up (by me) with a phone call to get clarification so my belongings would not be damaged. When I returned home the day my property was painted, not only was my property damaged, and CLEARLY caused by this company, but not even a note or phone number to apologize and follow up. After calling MULTIPLE TIMES/DAYS I had to leave work to catch a worker on-site to get answers. They broke/damaged multiple pieces of my property, satellite, rug, ripped my table cover and even got paint on my cushions. Mind you, I had placed everything in the center and covered with a tarp as instructed to per their instructions. When they decided to slide my satellite dish and break the stand, pushing it into my rug that caused the edges to hinge. My cable was out for 5 days. Upon pushing my satellite they pushed all my property on top of my table and ripped my table top cover. I contacted the company and all they are willing to cover is the satellite company fee to get my service back up and running. Complete disregard to other property and NOT ONE APOLOGY from this company. Their website claims "Empire Works cares deeply about each of our customers and projects" which is false, they care about money and ruining other peoples property with zero regard. if you can avoid using this company, you should. read more

Ten years ago we used EmpireWorks to paint our complex. They did such a great job back then that we called upon them again. Painting is one of the major projects for an HOA and I am fortunate to have worked with this great company. Tabor and Jericho were my point of contacts, and both are very professional, responsive, and friendly. Tabor always responded to my texts, calls, and emails. I appreciated the walk through reviews of our complex with Tabor and Jericho from the beginning of the paint project, during, and at the end of it. We did have some minor issues with a couple of units/residents, but overall it was a stress-free project for our HOA. The paint crew were very careful and skillful in their prepping and painting. They always cleaned up after they completed a unit/building, and made sure their supplies and ladders were put away. The painters were also helpful in pointing out things they came across (i.e., bee hive, hoarding issues). I highly recommend EmpireWorks to HOAs for painting needs. We recently had Empire paint the garage doors and trim in our complex of 131 units. They did a few buildings at a time. They were there every morning and when they were done with the day they left the community as they found it except for the great paint job they did. For all the money we're spending for Empire to paint the place, the crews could pick up all the nails they leave behind. They are everywhere! And project manager doesn't even care! And cost overruns galore! Empire really underrepresented the amount of cost overruns. Ten to twenty percent - my ass! More like 40%! The HOA who hired these people should be ashamed of themselves. Then suddenly banging one morning. Nothing for next several days and patio door has been nailed shut for weeks from outside! Patio may be completed but can't open door to check. Was told they would correct this morning but no one showed up and realize closed Saturday so not sure why we received that information. Good luck. This company was to do some repairs in Grossmont Terrace condos in El Cajon today. A notice was left on our doors two days in advance. We were to remove all plants, BBQ's, etc in front of the front doors which we did. They were to be here between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. They never showed and when I called the company, they left me on hold for almost ten minutes, and I had to call back. then I was told to disregard the notice. For those people who work, having to do all this preparation is difficult. This company is not reliable, and has no regard for the residents. I will report them to the owners of the condos, and to the HOA board. They will not get a good recommendation from me read more

Empire did some stucco repair and painting for our complex. The painting itself is fine but the process didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped. For us, we were told that all residents were going to get a notice at our doors as to when the painters would be painting our patios and so we would have time to move plants and patio furnishings. We never got a notice but came home one day to find they moved all our stuff instead. I contacted Empire and was told that the door notices were company policy and they would ensure that if they returned they would use the notices. A week or so later after the painting, I was sweeping our patio and as I moved our chairs, I realized one now had a broken arm. Thinking back, I remember after the first unannounced painting visit that I found broken plastic pieces on the patio that came from the chair at the time they moved them and thus broke one. It's not a huge deal, as the chair still works good enough, but they need to announce the visit ahead of time per policy and not break your stuff in the process. Their website had a login page where you could see the status of the ongoing job and it was supposed to be a big bonus to have that, but it was fairly useless as it never really had any useful information on it, never had any status updates as to what was completed, etc. So the painting itself was fine but everything else was sort of the usual disappointment with contractors and careless workers. They started termite repair 9 months ago, have replaced the wood twice, and still have not repaired the leaks or painted the replaced wood they put up over a month ago. Dont bother talking to the Supervisor Patrick...he will cop an attitude. After calling the company several times....they are not following up on ruining my patio. It now looks like Niagra Falls every time it rains. Very unprofessional and they have people (day laborers) that dont know what they are doing. Empire is presently doing major wood repair and painting for our condo complex. They started on my block a week ago after finishing work on the other two streets. The complex was built in 1974 and the results are astonishing. The completed units look fresh and bright and decidedly better-looking than the two adjacent complexes. I had occasion to meet the foreman who was doing the preliminary inspection of the eaves and fencing. He was extremely courteous and informative, and replaced all the patio furniture exactly as it had been. Yesterday was trash pickup day, and when I went to retrieve my bin, I was upset to see that for the second week in a row someone had dumped a huge, smelly, maggot-ridden bag of garbage into it after the truck was gone. The crew was nearby and I asked if they were responsible. They assured me they hadn't done it. Without prompting, one of the crew members took my bin, wheeled it to the end of the cul-de-sac and tossed the garbage into the construction dumpster. When he returned, he asked if he could use my hose to rinse out any remaining insects and to help rid it of the smell. This is going way above and beyond the call of duty. This crew has been working during some of the most miserable weather San Diego has experienced and it would be normal for nerves to be frayed and morale low. So far I'm impressed with the quality of the work and most of all, the quality of the crew. After the job is completed, I fully expect to give Empire a five-star rating. read more
