We worked with TR Construction between August 2025 and March 2026 (8 mo) on a major interior renovation spanning multiple trades (structural, trenching, plumbing, electrical, tiling, drywalling, painting, etc.). We did demo, design, and permitting separately, so I can't speak to those aspects, but I believe TR's team can handle all of those internally as well if desired. Overall, I'll start by saying that TR has assembled a great team of thoughtful, knowledgeable, and thorough folks across all trades. I can see why they've been around for over 20 years. Along with this, cost was extremely reasonable and straight to the point, in contrast with the many other GCs we screened during our initial bidding process. From start to finish TR's team was highly responsive and easy to work with, and in several instances went above and beyond what I thought were our agreed upon expectations. Our finished home turned out very close to how we initially envisioned, with probably any differences being our own changing opinions around certain design choices. If I were to offer a few minor critiques, they would be the following , though I believe these are generalizable to the construction industry in general rather than TR, specifically: 1) Timetables/clear schedules can be an occasional friction point, though our PM, Joshua, Teresa & the rest of the scheduling team did their best to give updates when they could. 2) In general, I would strongly recommend homeowners to have a basic understanding of how different trades work. Throughout our process some hiccups did come up that needed to be pointed out by us. However, TR and team were extremely quick and thorough about rectifying once brought up - which we really appreciated. Overall - would highly recommend TR, his team, and his subcontractors, and I'm sure we will be working with them again in the future. read more

I sent an e-mail with pictures to the contact e-mail address on their website on 2/1/2024 hoping for a quote. No response after 2 weeks. Called them 2/16/2024 and was given a different e-mail address. Sent same e-mail on 2/16/2024. As of this morning, on 2/25/2024, 9 days later, still no response. This represents terrible service. If you don't want to service a potential customer and are so busy you don't want the business, just say so instead of leaving the customer hanging. read more

He gave a brief estimate and then gave me a very solid quote a day or two later. TR did a great job on my roof recently. The crew were professional, skilled and organized. Excellent clean up as well. The management team is helpful and good with communication. There were a few scattered delays due to poor weather, but the crew were quick to adapt and reschedule. There were a few minor issues I noticed after the work was completed, which they took care of after I notified them. Called around to three companies to do a primary bedroom bathroom remodel. We had a vision of what we wanted which included a walk in curbless shower, increasing the size of the bathroom with a specific look for the tile on the shower walls and adding a walk in closet. Couldn't be happier that we went with TR Construction. It was the right choice for many reasons. Let me start with the workmanship. There's a reason they have specific trades persons for demo, framing, electrical, plumbing, tile setting, drywall, paint and finishing work to name a few. TR construction surprised me with their level of customer service. When Mike came out to quote our roof repair, I thought it was going to be a crazy amount of work and cost. I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't going to be as bad. He also calmed our nerves a bit and gave us honest feedback of what was needed and not needed as other contractors were up selling us services. We got our roof work done today. I think they hire contractors randomly and send them to customers locations ( this is the only explanation I can think of some other people getting good job done). In my case they never informed that work is done. They piled all the waste material in front of the house. This includes their coffee mugs and their personal waste too. They told my wife they need to step out for something for 30 mins and never showed up again. This is Friday. I am not sure if work is completed or not. I think I need to do all clean up my self. With this attitude I am also not sure whether I can trust if they finished work or not. UPDATE: Tony and Mike visited Monday morning as first thing and inspected everything. We decided to build an ADU and selected 4 companies to interview. Out of the four companies, TR Construction gave the best price. After checking referrals, we narrowed it down to two companies. In the end, Tony, the owner, gave us the most confidence because of his responsiveness and energy. These qualities were important to us because this was our first big project. After our first meeting, Tony came back with an architect that knew the city's codes and helped us understand what was and was not allowed, and how the ADU could be positioned in the backyard. After those meetings, we went to see an addition that TR was building, and we were impressed by the quality of the construction. During construction TR used high quality materials and components. We compared the quality of our ADU to that of an ADU that was built by flippers in our neighborhood. Seeing how the flipper's ADU was built, made us realize how sound the construction of our ADU is. There were challenges during the construction, which is expected in any project like this undergone during the pandemic. But, Tony always stayed true to the contract and addressed all our concerns in a timely manner. Additionally, Tony noticed that the roof of our own home did not have sufficient ventilation resulting in excess moisture in the attic causing leaks in the ceiling. He fixed this at no extra charge. The end result has exceeded our expectations. Our ADU looks spacious, airy and styleful. Our guests and renters love it. Our experience with TR was a very pleasant one. The paper on our roof was the original, nearly 35 years old, and well past the time to replace it. We had grown tired of hiring for one-off repairs and were looking to hire a general contractor who could fix the majority, if not all, of the work we wanted done around our home. We got quotes from multiple contractors for the roof, and we went with TR Construction. What we initially liked: - family run - local (we live in Mira Mesa) - diverse workforce - they had patched the roof for us about 10 years prior and the patch held - 10 year warranty on the roof What we liked about TR Construction compared to other contractors: - double layers of 40 lb paper - quote included an estimate of the wood that would likely need to be replaced (most other contractors' quotes didn't include the price of wood so we had no indication how high the ultimate cost would be) - quote included painting any installed wood and reinstalling the rain gutters (some contractor's quotes did not include the paint and rain gutters, we'd have to hire someone else for that or do it ourselves) - assured us that the roof would be water proof at end of each day, so we'd be in good shape if it rained overnight (and it did) - Mike was prompt and friendly during consultation and communicative afterwards too! - offered to do, and did, a patch job for our active leak ahead of the full roof since they were 10-12 weeks out What we liked about their service: - covid protections: crew was masked and distant when on the ground - estimates were pretty close! They got to us 10 weeks after we signed the contract. They used a bit more wood than estimated, but it was within reason and honestly I thought they would use much more than that. Our roof was leaking so we called for a repair. I asked the roofers to check the condition overall. After investigating and taking photos, we agreed that a roof replacement was in order. TR got us on the docket and followed up with pretty good communication. Because we had solar panels that needed to be removed and then replaced, the job took a bit longer. All in all, it was about 4-5 weeks from the initial investigation to getting bids, to finishing the project. Outstanding workers were: Teresa (office), father and son Michaels (management), Rudy and Jose (roofers). The roofers were amazing: prompt, diligent, mutually cooperative, and careful to clean up. The solar guy also made an extra trip to replace some parts he knew were faulty. Obviously TR Construction must treat their employees well because their employees give their very best effort. I needed to repair a leaky roof after noticing it from the rain we've had about a month ago. TR Construction responded quickly after reaching out to them. Mike H. actually arrived earlier than the intended appointment time (a courtesy call would have been nice to warn me, because I was preoccupied before the appointment, but at the same time, he arrived early, so no real complaints there). I showed him where the leak was, and traced how it flowed over our garage. Off the bat, he knew instantly where the issue was and what needed to be done to replace it. Just to be sure, he tested it out before to confirm. In his words, he was able to "save me some headache and money." He explained where exactly the leak was, what needed to be done, and how I can fix it myself if I wanted to. Since he was already there and knew what I needed, I asked if it's something he can go ahead and do if he had the materials already. Not only was he saving me a headache and money, but he was saving me time too, especially when I have a 6 month old that I am currently caring for. Had a really nice guy come out to quote us on new kitchen cabinets and wainscoting in two rooms. Received a call back letting me know that I need to look for another contractor and that they were busy. I asked if it was something that I can follow up on maybe next year since I could wait on my project and was told to call someone else. Our roof sprung a leak after the major rainstorm in December. After 30+ years, our roof was due to be replaced. We decided on a whole roof replacement (i.e. paper and all new tiles). We selected 4 companies to get an estimate. After checking construction licenses, proof of insurance and reviews, we narrowed it down to 2 companies. We chose TR construction due to the fact that there was no upselling. They didn't call me at all hours hounding me about choosing them. And talking to them, they seemed more knowledgeable than the other company. From the time we signed the contract to actual repairs took about 2 months but that was due to waiting for our roof tiles from the manufacturer. Actual repair and replacement took about 2 weeks, due to the intermittent rain during the repairs. The whole process exceeded our expectations. TR Construction took the stress level out of the whole process for us. Everyone was professional and worked diligently to get our roof finished. Our yard was cleaned up daily. The ending invoice was about 2K over the contract price but that was due to the large amount of wood that needed to be replaced on our home due to termite damage. And it was a lot of wood. We had TR do a total house remodel of every room, including a new roof, Solar installation, electrical panel upgrade,  plumbing re-pipe, re-stucco, and outdoor living area.  And now we couldn't be happier with what is basically a new home.   The whole team was great to work with as they took us through the whole process.   Starting with the initial estimate from Tony, the owner, it was obvious that he cared greatly about making sure that we were completely happy with the every aspect of our remodel project.  In contrast to other remodeling contractors that had slick ads, showrooms and fancy seminar presentations with videos and wine and cheese telling us how great they executed remodel projects, Tony showed me real projects he had in various stages of completion. TR did our roof last summer and overall I'm happy with the results. There were some minor install and communication issues but we got everything worked out eventually. The Good: Hard working crew, cleaned up after themselves and worked efficiently. Tony is a cool guy, can tell that is focused on customer satisfaction. Shingle and venting technology has come a long way in the last 25 years, TR uses the good stuff. Our new roof is a big improvement over the old one, no more leaks and the house is better insulated. Price, TR gave us a really competitive estimate and stuck to it. You can tell customer comes first with these guys, I complained about and issue and they quickly fixed it free of charge (so I ended up getting an extra free intake vent). The Bad: Communication from the crew was not good, originally we planned a 3 day re-roof, it ended up taking 6 days. The guys told us they'd be back the next morning a couple times but then didn't show (which we later found out was due to lack of materials). I had to make a several calls to the office to find out what was going on. One room in our house doesn't have an attic, that room got dusted with a lot of roof debris and it actually killed our fish. We/they should have put some tarps down in that room. TR also had to come back after the final inspection was done and install an additional vent. I requested an intake vent be placed on a corner that was subject to prevailing winds but the crew didn't install one there due to the communication issues. The Ugly: Some of the roofing companies we talked to were shady as hell. I definitely recommend getting lots of estimates. TR was pushing a large solar install on us pretty hard. I told Tony a couple times I was more interested in a smaller system (4-5KW) but TR only quoted me a high price on large 8KW system. I ended up going with a 5KW system from different company that had a much better value proposition. I think the solar game has gotten really tight over the last couple years, and TR is still trying to operate in 2014 atmosphere where people were cool with spending $30k on solar. In the end, I'm glad we went with TR Construction for our new roof and I'm really happy with the end result. I contacted TR Construction for a major bathroom remodel bid. They scheduled an appointment with me, then didn't show up being almost an hour late saying they would reschedule. I called the next day to reschedule and then they said they wanted to wait until we closed escrow and were very rude about it. That would have been helpful information before I spent over an hour driving to the property and waiting for them. Roof Replacement/Repairs - Our current roof was almost 30 years old and was starting to develop some leaks and other issues. A family member recommended TR and we weren't disappointed. Mike H. and his counterpart (the roofers) did a great job replacing the entire roof and making all the necessary repairs. Mike was very forthcoming with pictures and videos to show us what he found and explain his concerns while also providing options on how to proceed. He was also extremely knowledgeable and went out of his way to ensure we understood everything going on with the roof. As such, he was always very candid and gave an honest appraisal; there was never any push to do more than was needed or upsell. Overall, they did a great job and we feel confident that our roof will be in great shape for many years to come. Compared to some of the other roofs we've seen around the neighborhood that were repaired/replaced by other companies, these guys definitely did not cut any corners or do anything less than a great job. While we did have an issue that popped up, However, Tony (the owner) personally showed up to meet with me and discuss it. He quickly addressed our concerns and made sure that we were 100% satisfied with all aspects of the job and process. It was great to see a business owner take the time to listen to concerns, take full responsibility, address the issue, and ensure that we were satisfied with the resolution. We are very pleased with T.R. Construction. All employees were courteous and professional. Workmanship was in accordance with material supplier's instructions. Roofing was secured weathertight every evening. Heavy rain and strong winds encountered during the job were not a problem. My job was a lift and replace tile roofing. Mike was the project manager. In the bidding process Mike was exceptional and made a good faith effort to pre-price wood replacement. His estimates were very close to the final count - amazing as much of the wood could not be inspected. Mike was careful to address all of our concerns. The single final inspection item was addressed within a few days. If you have a roofing project - I recommend you call these folks up and get a proposal.
