Nobody wants to buy a new roof. It's expensive and often unexpected. The process of evaluating roofing services/pricing is time consuming. My project has a 28-panel solar system (lease) - so I was up against the additional obstacle of coordinating with the solar group to take those down (and put them back up) so the roof could be accessed. Nick at RC Roofing made himself readily available before, during, and after the project. He answered all of my questions fully and clearly. He explained everything in a way I could understand, and I never felt rushed as I was talking with him. He even helped me coordinate/communicate with the solar group to ensure all the timing worked out, and to ensure the solar group didn't pierce/damage the new roof upon reinstall. If you're evaluating roofers, this is your group. Nick from RC roofing came out to consult us on a new roof. When I initially called, I left a message and he got back to me very promptly. He show up on time as scheduled and provided honest advice. He assessed our house in a detailed and systematic manner and told us that our roof is still good for a few years. No new roof is recommended at this time. He also made recommendations for small touch up things we can do to protect the wood of our roof, and to call them back in a few years. Update. 4 years on the roof still looks great. We had an issue with one of the gutters. Gutter company claimed it was the roof. Without hesitation Rick came out to inspect. The problem is now solved. They never responded. :::::::::::::::::: My response to Rick's response: (Well, they sure responded to my review quickly.) I stand by what I said. I sent an email and they didn't respond. Maybe they missed it. As Rick said, "It does happen and may have been possible in this case, your email got missed...". If you are running a business you should be able to take reasonable care to prevent that from happening. If it does happen you're going to take the hit. You earned it. (Or maybe the job was too small and they didn't want to even bother responding.) Could I have called? Yes, but they had already made a bad impression. Do I want to deal with a company that is lax on communication and with which I have to make extra effort to get through? So they have a rating of 4.8 with 116 reviews. Not bad. And not perfect. They are not perfect. What I described is what happened. Others have a right to know. They can judge for themselves. Rick's company came highly recommended by a relative. From our first contact Rick and his team were very professional, knowledgeable, diligent and courteous. We agreed with Rick that new underlay and new tiles would be installed on our nearly 40 year old roof, plus any termite damaged wood would be replaced with new wood that he would paint if needed (visible fascia). He gave us a very reasonable estimate. Once the old tiles and underlay were removed it was obvious that there was a lot of damaged wood. My wife could see its deterioration as it was brought down to the driveway! Rick's team did an excellent job with quality workmanship, turning up on time each day and cleaning up at the end of the day. Attention to detail was great. For example, cracks in our 2 skylights were noticed and repaired with sealants. Rick and his team are absolutely amazing! I noticed a leak in my roof during the January 2024 storm that hit San Diego. RC Roofing was referred by a neighbor and I called the same day. Rick came out to inspect my roof on the same day of the storm and provided a proposal the very next day. The word "excellence" comes to mind for RC Roofing, Inc. Here is our story: My wife and I needed a new roof on our home in Chula Vista. Our home was constructed in 1979 and it was time, it also had a few minor leaks. From getting the on-site inspection, receiving the estimate/proposal, scheduling ad conducting the work, RC Roofing provided tip-top service! Nick Scarcela, the estimator, conducted a thorough examination of the roof identifying areas of need and explained in detail every step of the process. I let him know I was getting more estimates, and he advised that I listen carefully before asking any questions, this was sound advice. Upon receiving the written estimate, Nick took the time to answer all questions, and clearly explained what needed to be done and why. The proposal was well written and covered all aspects of the job with detailed pricing included. Price sheets for different types of wood for the roof were included in the proposal. I received estimates from three other companies, but those proposals were far less informative even though the prices were competitive. Our preference was for RC Roofing because they gave us high confidence, they would do a great job. We are pretty picky, and we wanted to get the best roof replacement we could. RC Roofing, Inc. worked with us on scheduling the job, and they conducted the work during the best possible time for us, shortly after the holidays in early January 2024. During the work, they showed us whenever new materials, particularly for replacing old wood sheeting and other wood pieces such as eave starter boards were required. They installed two layers of top-of-the-line underlayment, put on a drip edge, new bird stops, and added venting to the attic. The existing cement tiles were reused, some new ones were also installed, by doing so the correct coverage on the roof was achieved, prior to the new roof being installed, they determined the original tiles were not spaced with proper precision. The work was done in 4 consecutive days, the estimate stated 3 to 5 days. This was important to us, to start the job and finish it without any delays. Rick Clark, the owner of RC Roofing, Inc. was on the job site several times to make sure the job was going smoothly. We also extended the roof by a couple feet by the exterior portion of our front door entryway. I hired a different company to replace my roof and I had some concerns about the quality of their work. I called RC Roofing to request an inspection and potentially a quote to repair any work the other company did incorrectly. Nick took my call and came out the next day. He did a thorough inspection of the roof and taught me a lot about torch-down, scuppers, and mastic. Fortunately, he concluded that most of the roof was done adequately, and the sections that were not could be repaired pretty easily. He recommended that I try to get the other company to make the repairs so that I don't jeopardize the warranty, and he didn't charge me anything for the inspection. Super nice guy. This is the first time I've written a review for a service I DIDN'T use. I bought a house and the inspection report said I'd need to replace the roof. RC roofing came out and the owner said "I'd love to sell you a new roof but I really can't justify it based on what I'm seeing and what you've told me about the property." He then walked around the house, pointed out various aspects of the roof and told me how to evaluate when my roof was failing and would actually need to be replaced. He water-tested the roof and determined it wasn't a leak, but an old pool of water from the previous roof. He uncovered that I had a window leak that I didn't know about. Nick and Rick were communicative during the entire process and were able to work around the very unpredictable schedule of the solar install. Turns out our roof is older and more damaged than initially realized and what was supposed to be 5 days turned into 3 weeks. I put off getting a new roof due to the expense and the anticipated disruption, that is until it started raining indoors and really had no choice after several years of roof patching. I got several bids, but decided on RC Roofing. When Nick first came here, he spent a lot of time looking over the roof, measuring, and explaining to me what to expect and what might need to be done in areas that weren't yet uncovered. He was very thorough, didn't rush and addressed all of my questions. The bid was not the lowest, but the proposal they gave me was incredibly detailed and covered all possible charges. They allowed 4 days to install the roof. They did it in 2. The crew was professional and efficient. When they left, there was no debris, or any evidence that they were ever here, except for a beautiful new roof. From my experience from previous houses, a roof repair is like a blind date. They all may appear similar until you get to know them. That's when you discover which one needs a lot of work, or just a little love and attention, or like mine, is easy and quick. (My roof, not me.) Be ready for extensive repairs, but hopefully you won't need them. And be wary of bids that seem too simple and are priced really low. In hindsight, I wish I had just gotten the roof instead of all that patch work, because it turned out so much better than I thought it would, and I couldn't be happier. After the recent rains in December, we realized that we had a leak in our roof, under the Spanish tiles that covered our house. Having called several roofing repair companies, we settled on RC Roofing due to their affordable bid and extremely positive customer services. As the project went on, they literally did every single thing they said they would, when they would and even went above and beyond (fixing broken tiles on the roof that they hadn't caused, letting me up on the ladder to examine where they were fixing things, etc.).
