I've been to this little pizza shop twice now. My first visit was made after a long day when my friend and I were hungry and hoping to find good local pizza nearby. I'd driven pass Empire Pizza many times but this would be my first experience easting there. We ordered a large pizza with mushrooms and peppers, asking for the pizza to be made "light on the cheese" and the order was a pleasant surprise for both of us. I rate that experience slightly above average, 3.5 stars and determined that I'd visit again in the future. The second visit was with my uncle who had visited to help with some repairs and a pizza reward seemed appropriate. Our order was also mushrooms and peppers, but I didn't ask for any alteration to the cheese volume since I knew that my uncle would prefer more cheese and he had made the trip just to help me so I decided to see how this pizza would rate. Sadly, I found the pizza less exciting overall, barely average. BTW, the pizza isn't New Haven style pizza and is more of a local variation on NYC style pizza (which I prefer over New Haven style pizza). Based on the two visits I'd rate Empire Pizza three stars overall, IOW average. There's nothing wrong with average pizza, so this isn't intended as a slight in any way. read more

I ordered a 12.50 grinder using a card that had a 15.00 balance on it so it declined of course so I paid cash but my card alert said a transaction of 17.95 was decline. this also happened to a coworker of mines that a 20.00 tip was added not by her. when I called to ask why my card was trying to be over charged for my purchase no explanation. This local place is a great find! Pictured is my SMALL calazone that could certainly feed more than one and the garlic bread with cheese. I'm also a routine customer for the chicken cutlet grinder and mozzarella sticks. So far, everything i order has been delicious. The workers know me when I place an order. As you can tell by the photos, this was a to go order. I only have done take out, so I cannot comment in the dine in experience. We were SHOCKED and EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED at the scam/highway robbery system they have and do not make the paying customers aware of upon ordering. If you choose to order a pizza from them and would like a crushed red pepper, garlic powder or parmesan they charge you $1.50 for each side. I have NEVER in my entire life heard of this. When our delivery order price didn't match with their menu prices, we called back and the girl snottily responded that they charge $1.50 for each, only time you will not be charged is if you dine in and use what's on their table, she also told us our food was already out for delivery. Not even long time, well established pizza places such as Modern and Pepe's don't charge. Working there must be hell, the phone does not stop ringing. current owner is as good as their predecessors. The dough is a 10 the red sauce is amazing: flavorful without being acid, a huge plus!! Again...we were tired...didnt want to go out to a restaurant....wanted the food to come to us......uggggh.....PIZZA Ok...this place is 4 stars ONLY if you eat it there or you reheat it in a toaster oven or on the rack of a hot oven. The pizza is just too soggy when its delivered. The crust comes out just right...thin and crispy and the flavors seem to blend better the second time around. What this place have going for it is variety They have two pages of small print of choices to eat from pizza, subs, sandwiches, Greek food, wraps, italian dinners, etc. For example we had the California Dream pizza with roasted peppers, fried eggplant, artichoke hearts, olives, mushrooms and moz cheese. This had the potential of being a 5 star pizza...but the sauce was weak. The pizza crust was average. The cheese ravioli sauce was weak as well. The meatball sub was good but uninspired...clearly edible if you are tired and hungry. The cobb salad was more like a grilled chicken, bacon and feta cheese dish. Portions where huge. I would ntdrive out of my way to eat here...like more than 20 miles...but its really good if you are in the area and want something different than Pizza Hut or Dominos. read more

I asked for extra catsup...and they gave me extra catsup. now that may seem like a small step. however, I have found too many places that upon being asked for extra condiments, they give you 2-3 packets of catsup. I ordered the chef salad. this was very very good. Very generous with the meats and cheese. I asked for extra dressing...and they gave me extra dressing! Called to tell them about missing one put me on hold a couple times, then told me they would send one out. A couple minutes later my husband got a call at work saying that I in-fact did get the cheesecake. So I lost out on about $4 for the ghost cheesecake. I had done a review for them in the past that was a complimentary one but this threw me off since the customer service there is usually really good. When an order gets mixed up they will fix the issue no problem like if they make a sandwich or pie wrong. Just disappointed this time around. read more

A California Dream pizza kept me good company at my office while working later than anyone could desire. While not in the same class as New Haven's pizza, Empire still delivered a decent pie. After further studying of the menu, the Empire Special grinder caught the eyes of several coworkers and myself, and we proceeded to order a round of them for lunch several days later; the pastrami, turkey, bacon and provolone sandwich tasted good but could have used at least twice the amount of meat and a handful less lettuce. I was a regular there. To the point that they knew my order. One day I ordered, over the phone, a slice of pizza for pick up. I had no cash on me and was going to just use my debit card. Well the lady there said I needed to spend $10 to use my card. I was shocked. I had to scrounge up $2.50. After that I NEVER went back. Ordered a Bacon and pepperoni pizza with Buffalo wings and got a Pepperoni pizza no bacon and boneless wings. When I called to have it fixed I was told it was my fault. One of the many pizza delivery places around here. I wasn't jazzed about pizza one day so I ordered a burger and fries. It was ok. My boyfriend was always raving about the salads he gets here and that is what he ordered on this occasion. It was the ceasar salad with chicken, and oil and vinegar for a dressing. It did look really good, so that has been what I order from them now. The salad is a nice bed of greens with croutons and Parmesan cheese with a very generous helping of delicious grilled chicken. This chicken is really good and I crave these salads now. While I have been ordering salads my boyfriend has been ordering gyros. They looked and smelled good, so I had some of that too. It's also great! The meat is flavorful, the veggies on it are good, and the feta is so creamy and awesome. I honestly cannot speak for their pizzas, but the salads and gyros are worth it. read more

Ordered delivery on a Wednesday they estimated a 40 minute wait, ok usually not that long. One hour and 15minutes later my order arrived. It was hot, that's the best I can say. My friend got a chicken casear salad and there was more chicken than salad, how strange is that?? Decent size portions, can usually save half- or more- of the dinners, good the next day if you're ok with microwaved leftovers (it is what it is!). We (my sister and I) have had it all: chicken parmesan, lasagna, the stromboli, pizza, there is too much that I would recommend from this place! I frequently get their sm. I should have ordered the pizza. My neighbors always order from here, i see the car at least three times a week. So I ordered, but I didn't order pizza, that my have been my first mistake. If you come from a city and order here you will notice the gyro meat from Empire is either microwaved or thrown on the grill for a moment, it is not sliced from a spit. Their feta is not the feta that makes your mouth pucker. The pita is bland. What ever sauce they serve is not a yogurt sauce you would anticipate, its base is some sort of sour cream with chives. read more

The food at this pizza place is absolutely GROSS! The dough is okay but the sauce, cheese, and toppings are about as low quality as you can get. Not to mention they do not cook the pizza very well. I had pizza there, it was decent. DO NOT ever order grinders from there. I ordered 2 ham grinders and they were nasty. The ham was cut very thick, never seen thick cuts like that on ham sandwiches.
