I've been to this little pizza shop twice now. My first visit was made after a long day when my friend and I were hungry and hoping to find good local pizza nearby. I'd driven pass Empire Pizza many times but this would be my first experience easting there. We ordered a large pizza with mushrooms and peppers, asking for the pizza to be made "light on the cheese" and the order was a pleasant surprise for both of us. I rate that experience slightly above average, 3.5 stars and determined that I'd visit again in the future. The second visit was with my uncle who had visited to help with some repairs and a pizza reward seemed appropriate. Our order was also mushrooms and peppers, but I didn't ask for any alteration to the cheese volume since I knew that my uncle would prefer more cheese and he had made the trip just to help me so I decided to see how this pizza would rate. Sadly, I found the pizza less exciting overall, barely average. BTW, the pizza isn't New Haven style pizza and is more of a local variation on NYC style pizza (which I prefer over New Haven style pizza). Based on the two visits I'd rate Empire Pizza three stars overall, IOW average. There's nothing wrong with average pizza, so this isn't intended as a slight in any way. read more

We have been ordering from Empire for several years now. We have found that the pizza is expensive and just ok. However, the meatball grinder and the Caesar salad with chicken are excellent. We have never had problems with delivery. The staff is friendly whenever we call, instead of ordering online and picking up orders. read more

got an eggplant parmigiana over pasta, ate the soup that came with it and then ate the pasta. after finishing half the eggplant parmigiana I then felt like I needed to throw up. I ran outside the building to the back to throw up. when I was throwing up I notice old vomit on the ground next to me. The server was nice yet I swear this was the worst experience I've had this year. read more

This local place is a great find! Pictured is my SMALL calazone that could certainly feed more than one and the garlic bread with cheese. I'm also a routine customer for the chicken cutlet grinder and mozzarella sticks. So far, everything i order has been delicious. The workers know me when I place an order. As you can tell by the photos, this was a to go order. I only have done take out, so I cannot comment in the dine in experience. I am certainly interested in trying the pizza once I stop obsessing over the items I've already gotten and love. If you are local, I recommend giving Empire a try. read more

Margherita pizza was okay.... I wish it was more traditional The pastrami sandwich wasn't as stacked as I was expecting, but it tasted okay Their fry's are good, really crispy Maybe I ordered the wrong items to appreciate it more but the cost is reasonable read more

I had only the pizza and was not a fan. Sausage was fresh be but not enough sauce and too much cheese. Some people may like that though. I guess I'm partial to New Haven style and this was not that (nor did they claim to be). They have a fairly large menu other than pizza and maybe that is the issue. I'm not saying that it was bad, rather I am saying it wasn't for me. read more

This place used to be my favorite. Recently it's gone down hill. They gave me what looks like an actual fried chicken foot and small pieces of chicken fingers. $10 for not even a bites worth of chicken! And one of them still had a whole fingernail! This is disgusting I'm definitely done ordering from here read more

work at a medical office where we frequent local eateries. We were SHOCKED and EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED at the scam/highway robbery system they have and do not make the paying customers aware of upon ordering. If you choose to order a pizza from them and would like a crushed red pepper, garlic powder or parmesan they charge you $1.50 for each side. I have NEVER in my entire life heard of this. When our delivery order price didn't match with their menu prices, we called back and the girl snottily responded that they charge $1.50 for each, only time you will not be charged is if you dine in and use what's on their table, she also told us our food was already out for delivery. Not even long time, well established pizza places such as Modern and Pepe's don't charge. We will never order from them again, to avoid incurring unnecessary costs DO NOT ORDER from them, we will not be scammed again! read more

Empire Pizza - three containers of food on a pizza box - Pizza Near Me - Meriden, Connecticut

They have themselves listed as open for orders until 11:45, which I was so pleased about since I work overnight from home. I ordered at approx. 11:20 and then at 11:38 I got a call from Grub Hub saying my order was canceled because the restaurant won't be taking any further orders. This was so frustrating and plus now my funds are tied up for 3-5 business days. Hopefully Empire will read this and correct their hours in the Grub Hub app. read more

Empire Pizza - Cancellation - Pizza Near Me - Meriden, Connecticut

Horrible customer service from the driver. I was waiting on my lobby for about 10-15 minutes and the driver was waiting for me at his car. I call them and ask him where he was. Then He came and was scared of my trained dog so he decided to place my food on the floor (me and my dog was behind 2 glass doors) then he asked if i was tipping him for that I responded "sir you just put my food on the floor" the audacity then he threatened me with taking the food back. I was like "go ahead you just put my food on the floor" I didn't even got a refund read more

Empire has been in the same spot for at least 35 years. It has changed many hands but managed to keep its quality. Working there must be hell, the phone does not stop ringing. current owner is as good as their predecessors. The dough is a 10 the red sauce is amazing: flavorful without being acid, a huge plus!! Their calzones are the best in town. This definitely is my place to go to for Pizza as it is, judging by the number of calls when waiting to pick up my pizza, many others who are calling in for delivery. read more

Very Disappointed in their service today. I called in my pizza order for pick up and was told 15-20 minutes. Arrived 15 minutes later and it took another 15 minutes to get my pizza. No apology or anything else and if the staff called my sweetheart one more time I was goin to scream. read more

chicken wings ordered was 24 but only had 21 . we counted a few times to be sure because they were super minuscule tiny little wings on top of that. very disappointing because I had them before and they were good . what a bummer. read more

Amazing service, Amazing pizza! My brother and I placed an order with Empire pizza for 10 large pizzas. Each group of two was a different kind. They did a great job making and delivering the pizzas. I called them from California the day they were to be delivered to front-line workers at the Bradley Home in Meriden, to see if they could deliver an hour earlier. They were polite and accommodating. My brother and I would not hesitate to order from Empire pizza again. Thank You Empire Pizza! Mike and Ellie read more

Good pizza for the price. The wings are excellent. Fast and inexpensive are usually not good but this place is good.

Not the best place in the world but of my favorites! They always greet me and when I call they know exactly what I want since I'm always ordering I like that a lot about them, and sometimes when I'm waiting in my car they bring it out to me when they didn't have to. Very sweet I love eating here I recommend their wings very delicious!!! read more

How disappointed I was after ordering a grilled chicken grinder so I could eat half of the grinder tonight for dinner and the other half the grinder tomorrow for lunch because I am on a diet I want grilled chicken only to get home and find out that she gives me crispy chicken the fried chicken instead.. talk about disappointing read more

Again...we were tired...didnt want to go out to a restaurant....wanted the food to come to us......uggggh.....PIZZA Ok...this place is 4 stars ONLY if you eat it there or you reheat it in a toaster oven or on the rack of a hot oven. The pizza is just too soggy when its delivered. The crust comes out just right...thin and crispy and the flavors seem to blend better the second time around. What this place have going for it is variety They have two pages of small print of choices to eat from pizza, subs, sandwiches, Greek food, wraps, italian dinners, etc. For example we had the California Dream pizza with roasted peppers, fried eggplant, artichoke hearts, olives, mushrooms and moz cheese. This had the potential of being a 5 star pizza...but the sauce was weak. The pizza crust was average. The cheese ravioli sauce was weak as well. The meatball sub was good but uninspired...clearly edible if you are tired and hungry. The cobb salad was more like a grilled chicken, bacon and feta cheese dish. Portions where huge. I would ntdrive out of my way to eat here...like more than 20 miles...but its really good if you are in the area and want something different than Pizza Hut or Dominos. read more

Place is garbage , ordered a meat lovers calzone . It was giant which I was happy about but the inside was completely cold had no flavor . Fries I got were cold and soggy . And the good wasn't cheap lol . Never going back read more

I ordered the onion rings. they were good. I asked for extra catsup...and they gave me extra catsup. now that may seem like a small step. however, I have found too many places that upon being asked for extra condiments, they give you 2-3 packets of catsup. I ordered the chef salad. this was very very good. Very generous with the meats and cheese. I asked for extra dressing...and they gave me extra dressing! ( see above) Their willingness and eager to please customer service coupled with good food is why I recommend Empire Pizza. read more

Worst Steak and Cheese ever! Unwrapped to find my steak and cheese picture below. Order from here ALL THE TIME through Grubhub. The Italian combo sub is really good. Never really had any issues until yesterday. Ordered tri sampler, mozzarella sticks and TWO cheesecakes. Called to tell them about missing one put me on hold a couple times, then told me they would send one out. A couple minutes later my husband got a call at work saying that I in-fact did get the cheesecake. So I lost out on about $4 for the ghost cheesecake. I had done a review for them in the past that was a complimentary one but this threw me off since the customer service there is usually really good. When an order gets mixed up they will fix the issue no problem like if they make a sandwich or pie wrong. Just disappointed this time around. read more

My absolute favorite place to order from! The customer service is outstanding and the pizza is amazing!!!

A California Dream pizza kept me good company at my office while working later than anyone could desire. While not in the same class as New Haven's pizza, Empire still delivered a decent pie. After further studying of the menu, the Empire Special grinder caught the eyes of several coworkers and myself, and we proceeded to order a round of them for lunch several days later; the pastrami, turkey, bacon and provolone sandwich tasted good but could have used at least twice the amount of meat and a handful less lettuce. No regrets really; that's just how the story went. read more

I was a regular there. To the point that they knew my order. One day I ordered, over the phone, a slice of pizza for pick up. I had no cash on me and was going to just use my debit card. Well the lady there said I needed to spend $10 to use my card. I was shocked. I had to scrounge up $2.50. After that I NEVER went back. Poor service to even the regulars, and crappy pizza full of grease. I stick to Pizza heaven instead. read more

You can find much better pizza places that deliver in Meriden. The pizza is not awful, but it's not great either.

Pretty good Pizza and the very best Buffalo wings I've had from any pizza place in town. They are absolutely fantastic- juicey quality meat with a nice crisp on the outside without burning or drying out. read more

One of the many pizza delivery places around here. I wasn't jazzed about pizza one day so I ordered a burger and fries. It was ok. My boyfriend was always raving about the salads he gets here and that is what he ordered on this occasion. It was the ceasar salad with chicken, and oil and vinegar for a dressing. It did look really good, so that has been what I order from them now. The salad is a nice bed of greens with croutons and Parmesan cheese with a very generous helping of delicious grilled chicken. This chicken is really good and I crave these salads now. While I have been ordering salads my boyfriend has been ordering gyros. They looked and smelled good, so I had some of that too. It's also great! The meat is flavorful, the veggies on it are good, and the feta is so creamy and awesome. I honestly cannot speak for their pizzas, but the salads and gyros are worth it. read more

Ordered delivery on a Wednesday they estimated a 40 minute wait, ok usually not that long. One hour and 15minutes later my order arrived. It was hot, that's the best I can say. Pizza was just a more expensive Dominoes, nothing Italian about it. Stuffed bread was good size but so soggy on the bottom it was hard to enjoy. I will keep looking for good pizza in Meriden read more

Ordered a Bacon and pepperoni pizza with Buffalo wings and got a Pepperoni pizza no bacon and boneless wings. When I called to have it fixed I was told it was my fault. Terrible customer service and Alyssa is probably the rudest person I have ever spoke to at a restaurant. With great pizza restaurants in Meriden like Hubbard, Broad Street, Meriden and Honey Spot Pizza I have no idea how they stay in business. read more

The girl who was working the phones had a terrible attitude and lacked the ability to communicate properly. She kept me on hold for 10 minutes to check about fish availability with the chef, told me they had it and placed the order. Then she called back 20minutes later and put me on hold(just put the phone on the counter so I could hear all their banter) again, and ended up hanging up on me... then called back two more times and kept putting me on hold despite me telling her "no, i cant hold". She finally answered me and gave me attitude when I asked her about putting me on hold, only to tell me that they have no fish. 1/5 update: went to tacobell instead, phenomenal customer service. read more

We were in the state that closes early, AKA CT for a baseball tourney and the kids were hungry, so this is the place that was picked, probably because they deliver. My friend got a chicken casear salad and there was more chicken than salad, how strange is that?? I got the chicken souvlaki dinner, the chicken was good, yummy pita and sauce, the fries were semi-coated, YUCK. My son got the buffalo chicken sandwich, it disappeared so I assume it was good. Some of the kids got pizza, never saw it, but I believe that disappeared too. read more

Decent size portions, can usually save half- or more- of the dinners, good the next day if you're ok with microwaved leftovers (it is what it is!). We (my sister and I) have had it all: chicken parmesan, lasagna, the stromboli, pizza, there is too much that I would recommend from this place! I frequently get their sm. Greek salad (comes with a nice big piece of garlic bread) and love every bite. If you don't feel like cooking and want to have delicious food delivered to your door, look no further. read more

I should have ordered the pizza. My neighbors always order from here, i see the car at least three times a week. So I ordered, but I didn't order pizza, that my have been my first mistake. If you come from a city and order here you will notice the gyro meat from Empire is either microwaved or thrown on the grill for a moment, it is not sliced from a spit. Their feta is not the feta that makes your mouth pucker. The pita is bland. What ever sauce they serve is not a yogurt sauce you would anticipate, its base is some sort of sour cream with chives. read more

The food at this pizza place is absolutely GROSS! The dough is okay but the sauce, cheese, and toppings are about as low quality as you can get. Not to mention they do not cook the pizza very well. For some reason the pizzas taste like they sprinkle salt on them.... perhaps to cover up the low-end toppings and cheap ingredients? Who knows. read more

I had pizza there, it was decent. DO NOT ever order grinders from there. I ordered 2 ham grinders and they were nasty. The ham was cut very thick, never seen thick cuts like that on ham sandwiches. And I paid 20 bucks for those thin subs. Never will go there again. I only went there because Nardelli's is closed on Sundays. I did speak to the manager and he wasn't very receptive of my opinion. A waste of money. Now I know. read more
