a pizza in a box with sauce
    Kristen S.

This local place is a great find! Pictured is my SMALL calazone that could certainly feed more than one and the garlic bread with cheese. I'm also a routine customer for the chicken cutlet grinder and mozzarella sticks. So far, everything i order has been delicious. The workers know me when I place an order. As you can tell by the photos, this was a to go order. I only have done take out, so I cannot comment in the dine in experience. I am certainly interested in trying the pizza once I stop obsessing over the items I've already gotten and love. If you are local, I recommend giving Empire a try.

This place used to be my favorite. Recently it's gone down hill. They gave me what looks like an actual fried chicken foot and small pieces of chicken fingers. $10 for not even a bites worth of chicken! And one of them still had a whole fingernail! This is disgusting I'm definitely done ordering from here

work at a medical office where we frequent local eateries. We were SHOCKED and EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED at the scam/highway robbery system they have and do not make the paying customers aware of upon ordering. If you choose to order a pizza from them and would like a crushed red pepper, garlic powder or parmesan they charge you $1.50 for each side. I have NEVER in my entire life heard of this. When our delivery order price didn't match with their menu prices, we called back and the girl snottily responded that they charge $1.50 for each, only time you will not be charged is if you dine in and use what's on their table, she also told us our food was already out for delivery. Not even long time, well established pizza places such as Modern and Pepe's don't charge. We will never order from them again, to avoid incurring unnecessary costs DO NOT ORDER from them, we will not be scammed again!

They have themselves listed as open for orders until 11:45, which I was so pleased about since I work overnight from home. I ordered at approx. 11:20 and then at 11:38 I got a call from Grub Hub saying my order was canceled because the restaurant won't be taking any further orders. This was so frustrating and plus now my funds are tied up for 3-5 business days. Hopefully Empire will read this and correct their hours in the Grub Hub app.

Good pizza for the price. The wings are excellent. Fast and inexpensive are usually not good but this place is good.

You can find much better pizza places that deliver in Meriden. The pizza is not awful, but it's not great either.

If you like New Haven style pizza, which is arguably the 'esemplare' of all pizza, then visiting The Little Rendezvous is a MUST visit if you live within 90-min. Plan a trip to visit some store you want to go to, a beach visit or whatever, just find a way to circle The Little Rendezvous into the trip! The crust is thin with a crackery-crunch, the sauce is at a another level and the mozz and roni are high-quality deliciousness! Rendezvous stands tall with any of the well known top-3 pizza joints in New Haven. Dave's score of 9.1 (if you are unaware of the reference, then pizza isn't your thing) is right on point, and I'd go as far as scoring it slightly higher at a 9.2 based on my visit. The building is something out of folklore. The building is all of about 20ft. wide, and when you enter, it is immediate, Steve (owner/chef) is all about the pizza. To be clear, most will consider Rendezvous to be take-out only. There is zero decor, less signs made with cardboard and sharpie notifying you that wait times of hours are real..... so be sure to call ahead. You walk past the most basic seating area of 3-4 small tables with bare walls, and then proceed to walk down an oddly long and narrow sloping hallway which leads you to the service counter/kitchen which houses the 130-year old oven! It's honestly something you could only imagine out of a movie...... the hole in the wall that is creating high-quality, delicious pizzas! Why or how you ask? The answer is simple, Steve! The guy clearly has a passion for making pizza and has dedicated his life to doing so. I met the 'man-the myth-the legend' on my visit, and he kindly even took the time to chat with me. Bucket-list item checked off! Overall score = 5.0!!!

We arrived early on, what I thought was off hours and ordered in person, the wait time was 4 hours. I don't live far so it was easy to come back. The dining area is tight and pretty basic, so plan on wooden bench in limited space if you are dining in. I would also recommend calling way in advance with your order. As far as pizza goes, I have had the opportunity to sample most of the high profile places and understand why this place deserves to be on the list. The crust is pretty fantastic and overall a really good pie. When we went, there was no line. The grab and go was super simple, cash only. Order ahead, plan accordingly, and enjoy.

They do advertise for combo deal's, slices, $1 wings. Angelina's is directly across the street from Hubbard Park too. I'd assume people grab and go to the park. We ordered a simple cheese pizza and a chicken cutlet sandwich. The pizza was fresh, melty cheese with tasty Italian spices and perfectly cooked crust, but wasn't anything special. There are many other pizzerias in the area so it comes down personal preference and price. The chicken cutlet sandwich was a decent size and delicious. We were happy with the portion sizes, quality, and price. Our total was about $23 and we had leftovers (this was for 2 people). We will likely order again and will think of this place if we plan to have pizza for a gathering.

On a recent Saturday I finally stopped in for their $6.50, 2 slice pizza deal that comes with a 20 ounce Coke. The pizza is New Haven style and baked in a wood fired oven, need I say more? One word of caution - be prepared to pay an additional 4% over menu prices if you choose to pay by credit card.

I requested a pair of cheese slices, NY style according to its website, to go and after paying was ignored by one and all for too many minutes. Although they advertise on their website that a snack in the form of a tiny nugget of pizza would be offered, none was offered to me - boohoo. Finally one of the employees broke away from whatever he had been engaged in, took note of my order of which there was no others and placed the slices in the oven. Shortly thereafter the slices were properly reheated, boxed and handed to me with nary an apology or a smile offered. These were consumed in the car where both of us agreed the crust bordered on being tasteless and the toppings only fractionally better. This location, the owners third, has been in operation since 2008 so obviously they are doing something right though you could not prove it by me.
