Worst pizza I've had. I could have went to ShopRite and got a frozen pizza. They are using premade frozen dough. Canned mushrooms, nothing fresh. Riverbend Pizza was a staple when I was temporarily a Plainville resident all the way back in 2009. This small little pizza place tucked away in a plaza is definitely a hidden little gem if you aren't paying attention. I was back in Connecticut visiting family over the weekend and decided it was time to revisit this place with some takeout! I ordered a calzone with sausage and meatball and since I'm never here I definitely some of my moms chicken Parmesan sub as well. The calzone was just as delicious as I remembered and although the calzones here are pretty small, they do pack a tasty punch! The half of chicken Parmesan sub I had was a banger as well. The chicken was delicious and the same goes for the cheese and sauce it was slathered in. I asked them for an xl veggie pizza. Now usually I say light on the cheese because now a days there is usually tons of cheese on pizza it's really gross sometimes. So I get the pizza they said it looked so good they took a picture of it! We got it to the house opened it and it was beautiful! And it was so tasty!!! Typical pizza place, nothing special that makes it stand out from the crowd. The restaurant is very small and narrow. There was one cook and one waitress, so I'm thinking they don't get a ton of business. The table smelled like cleaning solution, not really the ideal situation when you are going to sit down and have a meal. I ordered a cheese pizza with a side salad. Your salad comes out on a small plate which I thought was odd. This makes it difficult to mix your salad and half of it ends up on the table. The salad was all greens and it seriously contained only one slice of a cucumber. I had the italian salad dressing, which separated immediately after shaking it, so most of what I ate was probably oil. The pizza was edible. I've definitely had better. It also had an odd flavor (not in a good way) that I couldn't quite pinpoint. The crust seemed dry and stale. It reminded me of the crust on pizza after it has been refrigerated and reheated; it never quite tastes like it did when it was fresh out of the oven. Someone that I was with ordered the shell pasta and sauce. It looked like they just cooked up some pasta and dumped a jar of store bought pasta sauce over it. Not even the expensive sauce but more like Ragu. No effort was made so that the dish looked presentable. Overall a disappointing experience, I would not go back. read more

Don't be frightened... yes its a typical "pizza place" yes the owners fart dust! And yes its a bit unkept around the corners. But the product was clean, tasty and pretty normal! I watched the hispanic??11?? chef work his butt off, the kitchen is visible. I was shopping in the plaza and stopped in and asked the early 20 something waitress if they do slices (they don't brag about it in the window). She said yes... and I got 2 plain (as that was my mood). The pizza was excellent and average, maybe frozen, but they know how to cook it to make it acceptable. i assume the elderly guy was the owner handed me a styrofoam sandwich thingy, not a small pizza box, so I was a bit confused... but inside were my 2 slices, not too oily to soak... so that might be why the styrofoam? It was tasty and finger licking.... for "average" pizza. If I lived on this end of town this would be my go-to place when I need pizza to shovel into my mouth! Had the house special pizza yesterday. This was probably the best pizza I've had in a long time. Crust was amazing, perfectly cooked. The toppings were plentiful and can taste all of them. I'm still amazed at the crust. This will be my go-to for pizza. Also it's family owned. It brings me back to when I was a kid when chain restaurants were uncommon and you had your local pizza place. Don't always believe what you read, this place is a hidden gem. If you are looking for a sit-down place, this place may not be for you, it's small and the seats are pretty tight. However the pizza is pretty damn good in my book. I use to live in New Haven so I'm pretty snobby about my pizza like I'm snobby about my coffee. Believe me this pizza holds up. I'd always get bacon.pepperoni.peppers which may sound odd but it's bangin'. I've only had the pizza there so I can't comment on anything else. The people who work there are nice. I've eaten at this place a handful of times, dine-in, and I've also done their take-out. Let me tell you what I've found. Their pizza is delicious most of the time, with a great blend of seasoning to enhance the flavor of the pizza. Crust tends to be a bit dry, bland. They give you decent amounts and qualities for toppings, so they do not disappoint there. Service in the restaurant is usually good, with normal staff, which I guess runs Mon-Fri? But I've been there on Sunday. The staffing is different, and you can taste it in the food (my cheese fries were lousier, blander... and what's marinara sauce doing in cheese fries?? That's not a blunder, it's just how they make them). The service was slower and less attentive then too. So if you visit, go on a weekday. Probably the same for picking up pizzas. A shame they don't deliver. More good than bad though, definitely. Try it out. Just go on the right day. read more

The calzones are to die for, thin golden brown crust with fresh filling that makes the calzone fat. It is a family type restaurant with very pleasant staff.
