Not-So-Classic BLT
Julia P.

Reviewing solely for the not-so-classic BLT. Imagine my surprise when I searched for this outstanding BLT in the reviews, only to find that no one has ever mentioned it! I was at the fire place once and it was getting late. To my delight, the kitchen was open late and the BLT caught my attention. The lettuce, tomato, and aioli are chopped and mixed before being put on the bread, which is starved warm. Easily the best BLT I've ever had. In fact, I knew someone who was there one might and offered them $1000 to bring me the BLT. They delivered

Tipsy Elf

Walked in to a great atmosphere and smells of brick oven style pizza. I was welcomed in and sat at the booth, the place had a great ambiance for a nice date or time with family. I tried the hot honey pizza which was amazing and the traditional cheese which you can't go wrong with. The holiday drinks were amazing my favorite was the tipsy elf. Our waitress was very attentive and the food came out quick! Most definitely recommended spot to eat in Southington

Fireplace wings. Great balance

Consistently good place. CT is tough for pizza but they hold their own. Wood fired, good crust (I like to order it crispy). We always end up ordering more than we need because we can't decide on what to get. It is fun to sit street side when the weather is good. The fireplace wings are always a must. To be honest, I always plan on trying the others but end up with the original. Good beer menu, order take out and wait at the bar. If you have a large group, call ahead and ask for the window table.

Love coming to The Fire Place when it gets warm outside. This place is in the center of Southington and when I am craving some speciality pizza this is where I go. There is indoor and outdoor seating. On the weekdays seating is pretty quick. The indoor seating is a bit dim and kind of tight but it is comfortable. The waitresses are always friendly and attentive. With so many choices of different pizza the waitresses are knowledgeable on what you may like. My favorite is the barbecue chicken pizza and my second favorite is the hamburger pizza. If you get a large you can get half one flavor and the other half another. The wings are pretty good and made fresh. I like the fact this place is next to a walking trail, and you can take a walk before or after eating pizza. Great place for a quick outing with friends.

The Fire Place is known for their wood-fired pizza, and wings baked in their pizza oven not fried. Half of the restaurant is the bar area, the other half is the dining area, consisting of wood tables with brick walls. A nice rustic atmosphere. When the pizza is served it is placed on a sauce can. We ordered the Smoke House wings that are honey barbecue flavored with sprinkled Parmesan cheese, and a side of ranch dressing. The only size is the 12 pc. After eating a couple of wings we realize they made them with honey mustard instead of honey barbecue. We eat them without complaining. They were nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.Plenty of flavor, but on the small side. We also ordered a large cheese pizza. The crust was thin, but it was soft, chewy, doughy, not at all crispy and very disappointing. The service was very good.

Ahhhh MAZING! I went with the basic cheese with garlic as my additional topping. It came out hot and fast and with the perfect crust!!! The bar itself is adorable, I love the fireplace theme. Its small and quaint and the servers were all friendly. Prices were reasonable for drinks and food. Will absolutely be back.

Large Half Shrimp Scampi, Half Mashed Potato Pizza

If you like pizza this is a good place to go, there isn't too much else on the menu other than a couple soups and salads and about 4 sandwiches, but definitely a good pizza spot. We got a half and half large pizza, with the shrimp scampi which was good and the mashed potato pizza which was good but nothing extravagant. The waitress was very kind and attentive and their bar area is very cool. They have a large beer and cocktail menu and their special Spring Margarita was delicious. There is free parking including a parking lot in the area which is a big plus for me.

Two slices of Veggie Pizza. The one on the left is more like pepper and a couple other things.

I was super hyped for their pizza because I've heard many great things about it. But instead I ended up being disappointed two nights in a row. Yes I ordered pizza from here two days in a row and was disappointed both times, damn shame. First night I was able to try their Mashed Potato Pizza, Chicken Bacon and Ranch Pizza, and their South Philly Pizza. I'm sorry I could not get pictures of the full pizzas, I didn't want people to wait for me since I couldn't beat them to it. I am very happy that they offer a Mashed Potato Pizza. It was the best pizza out of all of them for the wrong reasons. The Mashed Potato just overpowers the things that suck such as the doughy texture on this thin pizza. A couple people even claimed they couldn't taste the mashed potato at all. Personally, it was OK. Toppings weren't too bad on this one. The South Philly had Italian Sausage, Mushrooms and Onions. This one wasn't bad but the sausage really lacked its presence and if I closed my eyes I would have never knew it was there. Mushrooms were good but the mozzarella got rubbery to a point where I thought I was eating a school pizza. The Chicken Bacon and Ranch I had two nights in a row. Toppings were super uneven, you had to pick and choose. That's normal to pick and choose but legit one had straight bacon and no chicken, another was 50% cheese like there was an invisible wall stopping any toppings from going further north at all costs, but luckily I found one that was kinda even. Sadly the chicken was dry and I honestly had no hint of ranch either. The Veggie Pizza was a hit or miss depending on the slice. One was great, even toppings, not as doughy, not bad! But another was straight peppers! Look at my picture! Come on man! That's just careless! It doesn't need to be perfect but seriously you can't be that busy. All my pizzas were thin but still kinda doughy, slices were noticeably unevenly topped, as well as uneven and dull slices. Service was friendly and quick though, I do appreciate that very much. It's the least I could get. Consistency is great.......but not when it's negative. I thought they had a rough day on day 1, but day 2 was unforgivable. Sorry! 2-Stars for my pepper pizza.

Large spinaci salad to share

So glad I made a note that they had baked wings here, because we eat a TON of wings, and as you know, it's easy to find them everywhere fried, and double fried. But when you can find an amazing, baked, grilled or smoked wing? There's not much better! So the whole experience when we arrived on a Saturday night. The outside seating was full, there were heaters and patrons having a great time enjoying the fall weather, food and drinks! We weren't waiting, so we got a table in the bar area. Whoever sat us wasn't friendly or smiling, but hey, we did get a table. Our server on the other hand was pleasant, helpful and came back regularly to check on us since we were having trouble deciding which wings to get. We were having trouble because we LOVE to try different flavors of wings, but you can only get a dozen of each flavor, and we knew we didn't need more than 2 dozen for 2 of us. We ended up going with the Fire Place Wings and Spicy Garlic. They were both AMAZING!!!!!!! I mean, no blue cheese required (though we asked for it, because we didn't know any better) and I even LOVED the dry rub, which were the Fire Place wings. The Spicy Garlic had some sauce, not a ton but just the fact that there was sauce would usually make this my favorite flavor by default, but not this time. Now, that's not to say that the Fire Place wings were my favorite, I mean they were both perfect so I couldn't even choose which I liked more!!! I can't wait to get back to try more wings. The Fire Place wings were crispy on the outside but so moist and juicy on the inside, both flavors were oven roasted to perfection and I couldn't have been happier with the decision to drive 25 minutes to try this place out! Our spinaci salad was good as well, and we got a bottle of Pinot Grigio to share for $25. I was quite happy with this $74 dining experience, and literally can't wait to go back and try two more flavors with our next two dozen we order!!! They'll definitely see us again!

Wood fire oven

Came here for the first time, someone had recommended it and I will say I was fairly impressed! First of all they carry the classic Stewart's soda so already a plus for me. Started off with the fire place wings. They consist of their specialty dry rub along with maple chipotle baked in their wood fired oven (not fried). I'm usually not a fan of dry rub and I usually like my wings fried hard but these wings were great! Exploding with flavor in Every bite and juicy and tender on the inside! I was only upset that I couldn't combine flavors and there's only one size, but once I ate them I was very satisfied! Next we tried the Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza. The crust had a good amount of crunch and softness. Flavor was pretty good as well. I will definitely be back here and recommend it if you're in the area!

In a town full of pizza places, this is surely one to avoid! I don't often post reviews and when I…read moredo, it's either for an amazing experience or a terrible one; this one is on the latter end. Ordered a Penne ala Vodka pizza, which is one of my favorites to get. Now, you would think that ordering a pizza like that, the sauce in it would either be vodka sauce or at the very least a white sauce to allow the "ala vodka" to shine.... Boy would you be in for a surprise if you got it...RED SAUCE!! On a "ala vodka" pizza?! All the description says is "Aces award winning pizza" so I guess you're supposed to guess incorrectly at their pizza. Apparently, there's also a "Vodka Pizza" on the menu with vodka sauce, but that doesn't come with any pasta on it and is extra money to add to it. Make that make sense. Anyways, called to ask why it was like this and the owner, whose name is "Ace" must have gotten offended because he told me it was "award winning" and that I didn't know what I was talking about. He hung up on me! If I am going to pay $25 for a pizza there are plenty of other places in town I would go to: Domenic and Vinnie's, Riverbend, even Spartan's! If you want an excellent Penne Ala Vodka pizza, go to The Avenue in Berlin, CT and don't patronize this place!!

Apps came out before drinks and the food was super quick overall, service felt a bit slower but everyone was still very helpful, and friendly. The price for takeout for these (3) things were on the high side to not include a side salad. With that said, we were aware that those weren't included as it wasnt listed on their online ordering. We just figured the portion for both Entrees were likely larger and thats why you paid a la carte for the salad. We come back home with the takeout and to our surprise for quite a high price, the portions were small. How small, each meal fit with pasta inside a plastic container, similar to those used for Asian takeout. For any other restaurant that serves Chicken Parmigana, its always been a larger round metal dish with pasta on the side. Typically with 2 pieces of chicken. Putting portion aside as one can argue that we may have been able to find that out before ordering, the (2) entrees were not great. The Chicken Parmigana had one piece of chicken and the chicken was charred, dry, minimal amount of cheese and the both the chicken and pasta itself had a scarce amount of pasta sauce. I found myself having to scrub the side of the dish for any sauce left. The lemon bay chicken was also quite dry and unfortunately the mixture of recip (chicken, pasta and sauce) was quite tasteless. I'm not typically one to leave a 1 or 2 star reviews often, as I'd rather just not go again to the place where I had said experience but between the quality of food, price and portion, this place falls into a bit of an exception for me. Look, I've eaten at many places, if your portions are going to small for the price (and without sides), then the quality needs to EXCEED the excepted regional standard for that dish to justify that reasoning. This experience did not do that, instead we are left with half of take home container of each meal that we will have to toss in trash for Fathers Day.

As I walked through the front doors, I noticed kegs alongside on the floor. This was kind of a turn off, kind of reminds me of a dive bar. So my mentality kicked in that we were going into a dive bar serving food. I kinda get the sketchy feeling. Once we were seated, and menus placed, we were served iced water A few minutes later, the server came back and took our order. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and some string french fries. I ordered the 1/2 smoked chicken, which came with two sides. I chose the rattlesnake beans and the creamy macaroni and cheese. Also include included was cornbread I originally wanted the street corn, as a side, but it was not available. Our lunches came quick, and my friend only ate half the french fries and cheeseburger, as she wasn't really turned on by them. The smoked chicken was fairly dry, with a very interesting smoked flavor to it that I can't put my finger on. I eat about 1/3 of it. Left the rest on the plate. The creamy macaroni and cheese was out of bounds top-notch. I could've eaten this all day. The rattlesnake rice and beans were just OK. The rice was cooked pretty good, and was seasoned well. The beans had a weird taste. Now thinking of this side dish, I was hoping for raw onions to be on top, but they were nowhere to be found. It'll be nice if there was chopped raw onions to go with this. The cornbread was delicious. I ate about half of it. It was a generous slice. While the server was fairly attentive, as she only checked in to fill the water glasses and ask how lunch was. She didn't ask us if we wanted a desert or coffee. Being old folks this would've been a great up for us, but it didn't happen. I had to ask for the check. I'm not sure if I would come back. I think this might be a one and done. The vibe just didn't hit it for me. Restrooms were clean. The restaurant was clean; the silverware clean. I don't know. It just was like a funky type layout and those beer kegs kinda sent the wrong tone to me as a guest. Lunch for the two of us was $40 and change and I left a $10 tip. We didn't have any cocktails or mock tails, we didn't have coffee or dessert either. From what I understand, the owner was near the exit when we left, not even a smile or a thank you for coming in...
