Went to McBrides last night. Not our first time. Never disappoints! The CHEERS OF WOLCOTT AREA! Welcoming to ALL! Great pizza. Sausage peppers onions and cheese. Sausage was awesome and not just a slice. A lump of sausage. Service always friendly and fast. Bar tender always pleasant and head cook always out and checking on her meals. Corned beef sandwiches available all year and you won't find a better one - the tender, piled- high corned beef, caramelized onions, mozzarella cheese. It's perfection. Then there's the pizza. This is probably my favorite type of pizza. It's Italian pizza, but it's not super thin new Haven style. This is a little thicker with a perfect crispy crust that has a little chew to it. Just SO GOOD. The bacon is my favorite. Get a side of their homemade blue cheese dressing to dip your crust in and you have a perfect meal! read more

Pretty dope slice of pizza, friends. The crust is super thin. It's got a good char on the crust giving the pizza a nice smokiness. We grabbed half mushroom and onions and half pepperoni. The pepperoni has a greasiness that's is currently making me happy. It's honestly much better than I expected it to be. McBride's is my go-to Corned Beef Dinner. Of the last 6 years (before COVID), I probably ordered my St. Patty's dinner 3 or 4 of those times. The dinners are excellent and the portions are good. The food is never over cooked and staff is always very polite. St Patty's day can get a little wild but I know it's to be expected from an Irish bar on an Irish themed holiday. My only compliant is it seems to me that the Corned Beef dinners have gone up in price. This has lead me to other local options for the dinners instead to source my Corned Beef cravings during the holiday season. read more

Just got a corned beef dinner from this place, and what a mistake. Ruined my St. Patty's Day usual meal. The corned beef was loaded with fat! No taste, I had to put mustard on it. The carrots were hard to chew. The only thing that was half way decent was 2 little potatoes and the cabbage. With a tip it cost me $22 for a horrible meal. Would have brought it back, but was already home in Bristol and you couldn't even hear yourself think in the place. I have had much better corned beef at other places. Don't know why this place gets good reviews on the corned beef. Unless people like fat in their meat!!! read more

Very disappointed! Have had their pizza from the original location on East Farm which was much better. Just ordered 2 large both I had one piece and could not have a 2nd. There might not be a friendlier bar staff in all of CT. I went here because other reviews on the interweb raved about the corned beef and it happened to be St. Patrick's day to boot so...why not? The meat was as advertised (we were lucky enough to sample the dinner and the sandwich, the former only available one day a year) and another member of our party had the pizza (tasty) but what would absolutely make me return is the staff. It was ok pizza . Dough was a bit old. The sauce was good and there was a good amount of cheese and toppings. I do not think I would go back as there are definately other options in the area that seem to fit my pizza craving more . Also it is a bit of a bummer this place is CASH ONLY. I honestly can only comment on their corned beef sandwich and service. I haven't had anything else on the menu. Let me start by saying that I hate corned beef. I can't stand it's slimy, fatty, stringy texture. Growing up, I dreaded St. Patrick's Day because I knew that meant we were going to grandmas for boiled corned beef and cabbage. McBrides has forever changed my opinion of corned beef. I crave this sandwich. I think about it often in the days leading up to St. Patty's day and even during the fall when I shouldn't be thinking of it. It is thinly sliced corned beef (shaved) layered on a buttery rye with onions and cheese. Fan-freaking-tactic, I'm telling you. My fiancé and I stop in every March 17th for a taste of greatness. I won't eat corned beef any other way. I did try once to go here and eat pizza many years ago, this was before I knew about the corned beef and before I knew that they didn't take cards. All I have to say is: CORNED BEEF SANDWICH. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is wonderful, the beer is cold and the service is great but the corned beef is out of this world!! The place seems to be a regular pizza joint. Neon signs on the walls, baseball games playing on the tvs and high top tables crammed w/ locals but the food is as good as it gets. I won't get into the pizza/beer combo because that's not what I'm here to review (but believe me....it's delicious and SUPER affordable). If you're rushing to get there before the kitchen closes (10:00) then call about 9:30 and they'll have the pizza steaming for you when you get there. ANYWAYS. Ahhhh the corned beef. No wonder there are lines out the door every St. Patrick's Day. No wonder they run out before the night is even half over. Seriously! don't run out next year! But the best thing is that you can get the sandwich 365 days a year! So, the sandwich: It's piled SO HIGH w/ lean, thin, almost shaved cornbeef. topped w/ crispy carmazlied onions and the mozzarella cheese! They layer it in the beef so it's in every single bite. FInally they finish it on this buttery, golden brown rye bread that they MUST toast on the flat top back there because it comes out like a grilled cheese and the edges of the beef are crispy. OH MY GOD! It's Irish, it's Italian it's like under 7.00! you need to try it! the ONLY thing that stinks...is it doesn't open until 4pm...so we have to wait for that sandwich! read more

Have not been here in a while so I thought that i would stop by. Haven't been in since i was a kid and here is what i thought: The staff was very friendly. Pizza was delicious. Got a white pizza with chicken and broccoli and it was decent for a strip mall restaurant. There is a nice little bar area inside and seating for 10-20 people in the main area. Parking is fine, especially since i went for lunch. Seems like it would get crowded on the weekend nights, but i believe the back parking lot is public too (never had to go back there). If you are in the area and are looking for a nice little pizza joint that isn't overly crowded, or you are looking for a late night drink, stop on by McBrides and grab a Pizza while you are at it. read more

One of the best corned beef sandwiches I've ever had. The rye bread is buttered and toasted. The corned beef is cut nice and thin. The onions and cheese is also a nice touch. This is only on the pizza. Went there a few weeks back sat at the bar ordered a beer and checked out the menu for a pizza. Never been here before so went with the old reliable large pizza with Italian sausage. It took about 50 min to get my pizza ordered to go (barroom was lively but kitchen didn't seem to overwhelmed) 3 beers later got the pizza paid my tab and brought it home. I recently been staying in to area for a few days and was driving looking for something to eat when I can across McBrides, the parking lot was full so I thought of it a good sign. Anyway went in today to see the place first, me being from NYC I expected pizza displays and a huge menu but none was there, being a little disappointed I looked over there pizza menu as always I never pass a pizza place without looking at there menu, McBrides was no different very simple menu a good sign, I ordered a large pie and had a drink while I waited the 30mins. As I waited struck up conversation with fellow patrons, needless to say the time passed rather quickly as my pizza was ready. Well I must say the pizza I ordered was one of not the best pizzas I ever tasted, the crust was perfect not doughy not burnt but with a little char, the base was sturdy it wasn't soggy or cheese falling off. The taste was so incredible every ingredient had its own flavor that you just can't get enough,I've eaten a lot of pizza in my time and I must say this now my go to every time I'm in town. Been going here for pizza since I was a kid and they were located on Walnut St in Waterbury. Pizza was great then and still now. Walked in a few weeks back after being going from Ct for a few years and the was recognized when I walked in. New exactly who my dad was too. It was great. My kids are fans now too!!!! read more

Wow. There is something up with this crust. It's a secret and I understand why. Their crust is like nothing you're used to on a pizza. It stays firm and crunchy throughout. Most pizza crust absorbs the grease and moisture and sag. Not here. It's different in a good way. However, it flies in the face of years of pizza. It's a change that will take some getting used to, and I do plan on visiting this place again. Other aspects of this place. Lou. I suppose he is the proprietor. He's affable and engaging. Either he has a great memory and nature or almost everyone that was in there was a regular. Either way, it was an inviting atmosphere and I could easily see myself popping in there regularly if I lived nearby. The crowd: "Welcome to our place." would be their motto. Folk sitting at the bar, engaging in all kinds of good-natured conversation. Not a college bar. But a cool place to grab a pizza. This is a great local hangout where everyone gathers for some home cooked Italian meals. They have a great menu with a variety of pasta dishes, corned beef, pizza and grinders. Our 2 favorite pizzas are white clam and sausage/mushroom. We really like the corned beef casserole and baked eggplant parm. Dinners are all reasonably priced so good value. First of all this place is a Gem. If you like New York style pizza you have come to the right place. I have never had better thin crust perfectly cooked pizza in my life. The staff in this place set it apart. From the Owner to the wait staff they welcome you to the restaurant as if you were family. For starters the prices are great. They have a full bar and excellent beer selection. For appetizers I recommend the wings with the house made blue cheese. Only downside is they only accept cash. The place has been around for over 50 years and hopefully another 50 more! read more
