This is some of the best pizza in New Britain. Not my favorite location but the service was excellent! The atmosphere is a small casual corner store not in the best side of New Britain. Take it to go or have it delivered maybe. We tried the cheese, the pepperoni ( it was national pepperoni pizza day after all) and the veggies that has onions, broccoli, and mushrooms. I'm a big fan of Max pizza. I've made it a weekly tradition to get a small pepperoni pizza with a greek salad. The staff is friendly and always strike up a conversation. If you're a meat eater I also recommend their meatball sub with onions and peppers. read more

Was really craving Gifford's ice cream. Stopped for a nice cup of difference coffee ice cream unfortunately, more than halfway through. I found a dead fly in pieces. I understand these things can happen but you should have a better attitude when you're customer tells you about it don't act like she put it in there. read more

I don't like to shoot a restaurant with both barrels, but here goes: I like the pizza here, and I've been getting it for years. But in the last several months, the ordering process has gotten so difficult that I may never go there again. I used to simply order by phone, and the people knew me. Now, you have to order online. Not only does that limit the combinations you can get, but the last time I tried my pizza came to $14.95. Slice wouldn't let me put in an order for less than $15! And this was for pickup! It's not like I was asking for delivery. I couldn't figure out how to handle that, and after some fooling around I wound up with two pizzas in my cart. I deleted one, but then I was a nickel short again. The only option that was offered was to add tomatoes, for some reason. At that point it was that or nothing, so I added tomatoes and finished my order. Not so much pizza as PITA. Unless they fix this, they won't see my money again. That's really a shame. read more

Yes, Connecticut, I get it. You love square cut pizza. It's a regional thing. Sicily called... But for delivery, this Max will fill your head room with loads of melted cheese aboard buttery crust. The sauce is neither sweet, nor incredibly salty - it pleasantly lubes the wedges, er, quadrilaterals, and serves the purpose of those ordering hot, fast Greek style pie. Normally, it wouldn't be more than a three star experience, but they delivered an enormous, intact, thick and rich chocolate shake - with whipped cream on the side! Good food, delivered promptly and at a reasonable price. Loads of feta on that Greek salad, too! read more

Ehh, I have mixed feelings on this place. First, the service was terrible. Considering we were one of two tables eating in, it should have been much better. Kirstin and I ordered the mozzarella sticks to start (general frozen variety) but the house marinara to dip them in was good. Then we waited...and waited...30 minutes goes by and still no pizzas? Not sure why since the place was dead and there were very few takeout orders coming in to pick up. No explanation from our waitress, just told us it would be a few more minutes (my guess is that she forgot to put in our order just like she forgot to bring us plates for our appetizer). One of the owners was walking back and forth thru the place and didn't seem to notice or care either. I had the BLT pizza with chicken and Kirstin had the Texas ranch pizza-both very good. Ice cream was great as well. No complaints about the food, just the general uncaring attitude of the patrons (and no apology or compensation) is enough for me to never return. read more

So first - I did not try the pizza. Sacrilege, I know, to go to a pizza place and not try the main claim to fame. If there is a next time, maybe then. The service was okay - pretty prompt, they kept giving refills on water until we got the food. Feta needs water! It would have been nice to get a pitcher. The food we did order weren't stand-outs. The calamari tasted like it was been frozen, although temperature wise was good. The potato skins were double baked and not too over-burdened with potato. The Greek salad, as I saw mentioned in at least one other review, overflowed with feta. If you love feta for a reasonable price, this place is for you! Fall decor was timely and adorable. My wife and I were looking for a place for lunch and spotted a sign for this restaurant that indicated slices of pizza were available. The small parking lot was full which I took as a positive sign so I parked on the street in a residential area. I put my order in and waited, waited and waited some more. I expected the pizza to have already been prepared and just needed to be reheated in the oven. Nope, it was made from scratch as I waited, waited and waited some more. I just threw away a large Texas Ranch pizza and an order of wings. The pizza was undercooked, and incredibly greasy. The toppings were ok, but the cheese was not the best quality. Ordered a vegetarian pizza. They asked if I wanted anchovies on it (lol) which of course I didn't because I'm vegetarian (hence the vegetarian pizza). The garlic bread looked like a hoagie with garlic butter smeared on it and toasted. They delivered the vegetarian pizza to me with pepperoni on it. I guess they really wanted to serve up some meat. My father and I were regular customers at Max's Pizza 2. Often going twice or three times a week. We loved giving them business. The other day, I had ordered food and I unfortunately have medical issues and my medication makes me tired and drowsy. I fell asleep and never picked up my order. Now I ordered honey hot wings and ended up getting buffalo, but that's not the worst part the wings just felt like they use low quality meat. I've lived in both newington and new Britain for the last 2 1/2 years and we have tried many different pizza delivery places. MAXX PIZZA II is without a doubt the best pizza we have ever eaten within that time and possibly within our life time. The crust is so flavorful and the ingredients are so fresh. My partner and I have just tried their Hawaiian pizza(which we have eaten at many other venues) and Maxx's is by far the best we have ever had. Please keep up the hard work of making delicious pizza. Max pizza II was a recent savior, thanks to hurricane sandy. Monday found many of us home from work, with the threat of an impending hurricane that would likely leave us without power, possibly for several days, and all major highways closed, with the charge to evacuate (near the shore) or just stay home. Thankfully, i only live a few blocks from this newly opened restaurant. Back story: My family was a regular customer of the original max pizza, in Bristol. Every Saturday night we would order an antipasto and garbage pizza, and visit my grandmother who lived in Bristol. About 4-6 months ago, we noticed some new construction in our neighborhood. There had always been this little corner market, owned by the same people for years, but had recently changed hands a few times. Boy were we excited when we realized the construction indicated 'restaurant.' Who doesn't want a nice local joint? This restaurant is actually sister to the Bristol location. (I think the business is owned by brothers, or something.) With our power flickering on and off, we decided to give this place a try, hoping their power would stay on. We were the only ones when we arrived, but not for long. The place has a nice, open feel. Booths line each wall, with some tables in the middle. It's small, probably doesn't seat more than 30-35, tops, but i have a feeling they'll do a lot of takeout to make up the difference. Service was a little off, because all of the 'real' servers had been sent home due to the storm, so one of the owners actually waited on us. I think he had so much on his mind, what with the storm and threat of power loss, that he just seemed a bit distracted. No worries- we just wanted to eat! The menu is classic local pizza joint: salads, grinders, pizza, calzones, and pasta. We went with our usual, knowing we would likely return to sample other offerings. Antipasto was delicious: crisp lettuce with a variety of meats, cheeses, and other veg. Somewhat oddly, it is garnished with 2 dill pickle spears. Now- i love pickles. I mean, LOVE them, so i thought it was great. Others thought it was weird. Whatever. We got it with their housemade dressing that is oil & vinegar based, with a ton of herbage; i highly recommend, it was delicious. Fear not the herbage. :-) Pizza's not one of my favorites, so i ate mostly salad, but i did sample a baby corner piece... holy crispy crust! This thing was beautifully cooked, and topped generously with green peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, onions, and sausage (we got the anchovies on the side). We did get an extra large (they come small, medium, or extra largel, which was 24 pieces and provided leftovers. Thankfully, we never lost power (despite multiple, sometimes extended, flickers), so they were safe. All in all, i think this is a solid spot that will gain momentum the longer they are open. I was encouraged for their success by other guests who came in to eat, as well as grab takeout. In addition to pizza, etc. they also have ice cream, and even an ice cream window. I live right down the street from this place, and my brother and his wife live by the other location in Bristol, so I'm familiar with the food. The pizza is delicious - crisp crust cooked perfectly. Generous toppings. The salads are delicious as well, with lots of ingredients and decent house dressing. As far as decor - the building is clean, well lit and artfully decorated. The site was remodeled from a mom-and-pop grocery/convenience store that had been there for years and was, quite frankly, a bit of an eyesore. The owners completely renovated the inside and outside and it gives a bit of class to my little corner of New Britain. My boyfriend and I went here again a couple weeks ago, when we were still snowed in by Nemo. The storm was very good for Max's business, and the restaurant was the most full I've ever seen it. The waitress was a bit frazzled, but handled being the only waitress there very well. My boyfriend ordered a steak grinder and I got the penne with alfredo, chicken, mushrooms and broccoli. The alfredo was house made, full of garlic and piping hot. My boyfriend was very happy with his grinder. For dessert, I got a hot fudge sundae with peanut butter cookie dough ice cream. The cook has to be sloppy or he's just bad at his job. They must've gotten rid of the old cook cuz the food used to be good. My burger was completely raw yesterday so I couldn't even eat it, after waiting an hour for the delivery too. Such a disappointment. I've given this place many chances too. I've had items missing from my order that they wouldn't bring me. I also had pizzas show up with cheese all to one side of the box. Mozzarella sticks covered in marinara sauce when I open the box. I ordered the Captain's Platter that was on their menu. When I got home after picking up the food, there was no fish and very little seafood. When I called the restaurant to report it, the woman said they don't really have a Captain's Platter. Yet I was allowed to order it after seeing it on their menu and they charged me for it! When I asked for a refund, she said yeah, we don't do that either and hung up. VERY disappointing food, unprofessional staff, and NO customer service. I've been going to Max Pizza in Bristol for over 20 years so I was very excited to see this one in New Britain open up.Max Pizza 2 in New Britain is pretty nice inside compared to bristol. My pizza of choice is the Pancho Pie! Only place I have ever had a great nacho pizza. But I also like the regular sausage and Pepperoni. The pizza comes out crisp, cheesy, and melty. The crust is distinct and the sauce tastes good Recently I decided to try the dinners and OMG! I won't be going to another Italian restaurant for my fix, Max Pizza 2 fills the void. I had the baked mini penne e fagioli! It was delicious, and the portion was huge.it came with soup or salad and garlic bread. Definitely worth the money. My favorite go to spot. Can't wait to try something else. There are many pizza joints in this area, but Max Pizza is a gem. You have to give it it a try. read more

I cannot say what a great addition Max II is to New Britain enough. We order once every week or two and are never disappointed. The pizza is cheesy and hot. The grinders are huge and filled to the brim for less than you'd pay for a skimpy chain grinder. The employees are always pleasant and want to please. A friend prepaid for an order for her class. She happened to be absent the day it was to be delivered and when she called, was told, "Don't worry. Just get better and let us know when you are ready for us to bring you your pizzas. My family and I used to love this place and order almost every weekend but the past few times haven't been good. We ordered wings, pizzas, a salad, and some French fries and they told us 30 mins to pick up. My dad went to pick up the food and it was not ready. It didn't look too busy either. So he had to wait for another 30 mins for them to make the food. After waiting he got home and they did not give us the fries or the wings which we paid for and were on the receipt. Not cool. We called to see if they could give us some wings and fries that we paid for and the line was busy. The past few times we've ordered here similar things keep happening. I NEVER leave Yelp reviews so that alone shows how badly they messed up. The delivery guy left the food on the porch, I ordered a regular pizza (8 slices) and got a tiny small 9inch pizza. Called the delivery guy and he kept sending me to voicemail, called the restaurant and kept getting a busy signal. When I finally got someone after having to literally call over 10 times, they immediately put me on hold and left me there for 5 minutes, meanwhile I heard everyone just chatting away, had to hang up and call back and someone immediately answered, which is weird because I was just on hold for over 5 minutes and no one bothered to come back on the phone to help. When I told her my order and explained how it seems I got a personal pizza she said (with a lot of attitude) I should have gotten the large that comes with 24 slices. When I said there was just 2 people in my house why would I think to order 24 slices? Her response was very condescending and she just said she was sorry that I was confused. They should at least put the sizes in inches rather than number of slices on the website, it is very misleading. Paying $14 for a personal size pizza is honestly ridiculous and the customer service/help afterwards made it even worse. Got the Margherita pizza and its quite mid anyway. If you're going to cheat people out of money and hospitality least you could do is have good food, but nope not at Max Pizza II. read more

Great Greek style pizza! The crust is perfectly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, the way Greek pizza should be! Delivery always takes a while but the food is really good and the prices are awesome. The buffalo chicken pizza is surprisingly good but I usually go for the more traditional options and never disappointed. Edited to add that delivery consistently takes well over an hour. I was driving home from a meeting in New Britain when I discovered Max Pizza II. It is a relatively new facility that has a Mom and Pop feel. There is limited seating but most customers seem to choose the carry out option. I ordered a large pie and boy was it large! The pizza was delicious. My preference in pizza is usually for Neapolitan and Apizza preparations but Max Pizza II hits the spot! read more
