I've previously only visited Empire late at night after a trip to the bars when they're bustling with customers. My previous trip I had been excited to try the elote pizza, but since it ran out I decided to visit the next afternoon to try again. I did not have an as pleasant experience ordering midday as I normally do. After ordering the employee at the counter took our slices from the display case and threw it back in the oven to warm up. This unsettled us, because we were unsure how long the pizza had been sitting out. The employee directed us to take a seat and said they would bring out our order. After waiting for what seemed like too long I headed back around to the front where the employee realized he had forgotten our food and took the burnt pizza out of the oven to start the process over. Eventually we got the pizza and it tasted good, but it definitely made our stomachs upset in a way that confirmed it had probably been left out for too long. I'm going to continue coming back but I've learned my lesson about coming midday. read more

Ok so we were in the streets of Tuscon... if you been to Tuscon, you'll get the irony of that statement but none the less we found this great late night spot that had beer, pizza, and a strong drink. What's not to love !!!! Honestly the pizza here was so good! And they make it fresh, I saw them kneading the dough and preparing for the next day (we were here pretty late). I enjoyed the service here too it was friendly but not overbearing. The vibe here is definitely dive bar type of vibe ! Definitely returning !!!! read more

This place is a small little place that serves up slices of pizza, New York style. Two slices and a drink was $9 which I think is a great price. I'm not sure if the dough is made in house or if it's a frozen premade product. The crust didn't have much body or structure. It was very flat with no height. No browning on the crust but it was crispy which was odd to me. No real flop when the slice was held up. The sauce had a good tang to it and was well seasoned. The toppings tasted good. Overall this pizza is the pizza I'm looking for at 2am when I'm heading home from downtown, it was amazing and it wasn't horrible, just an average piece. read more

Downtown and convenient if you want something quick to eat. You Can get a Whole pie or pizza by the slice. Good for a fast lunch. I took the fam here and we each got a slice (a cheese, a pepperoni, and an elote) and a drink and sat in the patio. They have a bar and seating in the back. read more

Elote pizza makes me smile. The Mexican themed pizza has no special heat to it but rather a satisfying flavor of sweet corn & crema. Server suggested adding a generous splash of lime. Perfect! We shared a giant pizza & had leftovers for breakfast. Empire Pizza in the heart of downtown Tucson exudes a friendly atmosphere. Indoor seating in the small bar & a few tables at outdoor patio give you a chance to choose AC / bar vibe, or, streetside people watching. Better go twice to decide. I came here with my mom and sister expecting great customer service and pizza, I had gotten a pepperoni slice and an elote slice which took 45 minutes first of all and while I waited I sat in the bar and was trying to make conversation with the bartender who was not trying to talk and made it very clear to me and my family. The bar top was sticky and the bar had a funky smell. We finally got our pizza and it was just sloppy and was very mediocre at best, I will not be returning any time soon. read more

Have you ever tried elote on a pizza? At Empire Pizza in downtown Tucson, Arizona, you can try the most mouthwatering slice of pizza with elote and aioli on top! While this might sound crazy, this was the best slice of pizza I have ever enjoyed! We stopped at this spot during our Downtown Tucson Walking Food Tour and I am already craving to return. There is a bar in the back with great service and good brews. Seating is limited, but there are a few tables you can enjoy your pizza at. This is my fave pizza place with the hidden bar in the back. They serve great wings too. BUT let me tell you my fave pizza is the sausage and the last handful of times I've went there to get it, they are always out. I even stopped going for quite some time, maybe at least a year maybe two and then I come back and guess what? ! They're out of sausage pizza. When you're craving that certain food and don't have it, you go there just for that, it's so disappointing. I'll try again in another year perhaps. read more

I ordered takeout last Sunday to watch the conference championship rounds of the NFL playoffs. I ordered the elote pizza and the Bensonhurst (Pepperoni, Bacon, Prosciutto, and Italian Sausage) to go. The young woman behind the counter told me it would be about 20 minutes. After I placed my order, left to have coffee at an independent coffee place up the street and when I came back to see if my order was complete, this young guy (early 20s) was walking out with two pizzas. The same staff member looked at me like what do you want so I answered I am here for my pizzas. She realized she gave my pizzas to the guy walking out and went to confront him in front of my wife and kid who were waiting right outside the door and I followed and the guy gave her back the pizzas, looked at me and said I was wondering why she gave me two pizzas when I only ordered one. Besides the paucity of ethics, morals, and values from the other customer, I do not understand why the staff member didn't validate who she was giving the products. The pizzas were very large and the two came to $61. The flavor was ok, but the pepperoni was too greasy and I did not care for the crust. If you enjoy thick crust, you may really enjoy their pizza. read more

Well, the spot was a bit blah points for the outdoor seating and the people-watching view from the restaurant. I am guessing it is a great spot as the foot traffic was very extensive. I ordered a pepperoni slice and it was pretty darn greasy, not a lot of crunch, and pretty average. The staff was very amazing though and their energy levels were high. read more

I'd never been here before but have always wanted to. We attempted once on a Saturday night and it was super packed but this Friday night around 6:00 we were lucky enough to find a table by the bar. We ordered slices of pizza pepperoni and elote (corn). I had never had or heard of roasted corn pizza before but let me tell you, I've been missing out on this slice of heaven my whole life, this was an unexpectedly delicious slice of pizza with sprinkles of cilantro and mayo / sriracha sauce ( I think ). When you go try the elote pizza (this coming from someone that passes on corn most of the time). The pepperoni pizza was a bit too greasy for my liking. I had them a couple times during the comicon this year and last year too. Delivery is convenient and on time. If I had any complaints, it's that it needed another couple of minutes more in the oven to get the undercarriage a little more done. Being from NY, pizza shouldn't flop at all. read more

I'm a huge fan of Empire's pizza and (outside of OG Eegee's of course) they have the best ranch in town. Definitely try the elote pizza if you're ordering a whole pie, although in general I find it worth checking out any of their specialty pies or whatever the slice of the month is. I had some concerns about the declining quality of the food, service, and delivery a few years ago but they've clearly made all the right changes since then. Absolutely one of my favorite places to order a slice, get a pizza delivered, or to bring friends from out of town. read more

This is the second time lve ordered the Elote pizza and it has been delivered inedible. I thought l would give it a second chance but it arrived with the corn on top black. That burnt taste was so pungent. They also didn't put the chipotle dressing and greens on top. Even my dog wouldn't eat the crust. We had to throw it out. read more

Cute pizza place in downtown Tucson! Came here with friends before going to a concert. It's such a small cute place with pretty good priced pizza and other stuff- like wings and sweets. :) I tried a slice of cheese and pepperoni, not a huge fan of pepperoni, but the cheese pizza was good! I'm in town for a wedding, arrived at 10pm and I need a quick bite. Luckily Empire pizza is open until midnight. The pepperoni pizza slice was chewy and the crust was crispy (I didn't know pizza crust could be like that). For the price and the carbs it's not bad. The fryer was broken, so I wish I could've tried their wings. Garlic knots are discontinued from the menu which I was looking forward to. They have a bar in the back and tables. Come have slice and a little drink in the back. My slice was $4.50 and the cocktail was $8 which isn't bad. read more

I ordered through the restaurant for delivery. They outsourced to doordash. Not my decision. Guess the delivery guy/gal enjoyed our pizza because was never delivered. Restaurant says they are not responsible but DoorDash. Still no Pizza! Empire Manger was useless. read more

Small quaint place. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Bar was comfortable and nice and cool. Pizza was large, including the slices and the taste was decent for a bar. The Elote pizza was very good with crushed red pepper on top needed a little bit more seasoning to get the full flavor. Pepperoni a little greasy needed a little bit more sauce. Overall a nice place to get a slice of pizza and a beer for eight dollars during happy hour. However, the bathroom needs some work definitely a dive bar bathroom. And service was good. read more

On our second trip here we had the Elote pizza and beer "deal" in the bar. The pizza was just as good as last time, the sever was friendly, and the ambience is brick-and-wood Old Skool Tucson. But at $25.74 including tip for two pretty thin slices and two beers, this ain't what I'd call value for money. It's all about what you're after, I reckon. read more

Being born and raised in Brooklyn NY I pride myself on knowing what great pizza looks & tastes like. And there once was a time where a slice of pizza at Empire was the very best in Tucson. My last two recent visits to Empire I noticed that the slices were considerably smaller and they had less sauce and cheese on them. During those two visits I asked the staff: "Where was Damian" who happens to be one of the best pizza makers in Tucson. I was told he was out of town. Upon our arrival it was like walking into paradise. Hundreds of beers, meads, ciders to choose from and they were all for me lol. The staff and locals were very friendly, offering up advise on local beers and how well they pair with food. Though it was still 100 degrees at 8pm, being able to sit outside, enjoy a nice beer and have a subtle breeze going, was heavenly to the experience. I'm definitely coming back to this beer haven soon. Need to restock my coffers.

It feels like there is ALWAYS something going on here. On my first visit, my girlfriend took me on a date here to catch a burlesque show. It was absolutely packed and everyone had a great time! And every Friday and Saturday night, there is some reiteration of a goth dance night ($5 cover). I also appreciate the slightly older crowd full of my fellow thirtysomethings, and the upstairs patio cannot be missed when the weather is nice. The cocktail menu isn't anything especially fancy, but there's still something for everyone to enjoy. My favorite is always the Prickly Heat--think a prickly pear margarita that's absolutely loaded with fresh jalapenos. It's not for the weak! There's also food, and while it's not mind-blowing or anything you'll appreciate that you can have a nice snack at midnight on a weekend. Surly Wench is a local cultural institution, and we're lucky to have it.

Now it's a busted old bar where everyone from the waitstaff to the uptight Unbelievably stuck up KJ takes themselves way too seriously. If you're going to have a bad attitude at least have a decent voice if karaoke is going to be your vocation, and a good attitude and a compassionate manner if you're going to be a bartender . Especially on a Thursday night. These jobs are a skill, talent and a privilege, one that is terribly lacking at the Surly wench. They have taken the wordmark and instilled it into their personalities. Maybe, sadly it's time for the once mighty and always fun wench to move on and embrace the brave new world. Seriously a bummer!

We needed a little more time to choose the right beer. My partner wanted a pilsner, but unfortunately they didn't have one available at the time, so we went with their famous Barrio Blonde. I've had Barrio Blonde on many occasions at other places, but this one tasted unusually bitter and a bit flat. It seemed like the beer may have gotten warm at some point and was later cooled again, affecting the flavor. We were hungry, so we ordered the patty melt. The burger was good, with a flavorful patty and perfectly toasted bread. The bathrooms were also very clean, which is always appreciated. Overall, service was friendly and attentive, but the beer quality this visit was disappointing.

Caleb (maybe with a K) was simply amazing! He was sooo helpful, patient and wonderful all rolled up in a great human! The wine list was phenomenal, the beer on tap was such a great deal, an ice cold two pint pitcher for $6! And the food, guys....the food was outstanding! We shared the albacore tuna samich on focaccia and the best chips with a chefs charcuterie board! I did not want to leave! What a great deal! We were full for the rest of the day!!! There were a few other people at the bar and a few of the booths were taken. We were certainly able to carry our conversation as well as chat with folks around us! My SIL and I enjoyed some wine--$6 a glass before 5. I went with the Sauvignon blanc and it was perfect for my tastes. Light and easy to drink! We also got bruschetta and the chef's charcuterie board. Everything was so yummy! My favorite bruschetta was the warm artichoke spread--which I didn't expect, but it was so good! They do a team-based service so several different people take care of you, making it pretty efficient. I'm sad it's taken me so long to come back, but I'm so glad I did and will make a point to come back soon!

The beer selection was first rate and prices were great too. The taproom is large and has lots of seating and they have lots of good beer to go from the bottle shop as well. They even have spirits and the prices for rare bourbon were unbelievably good (compared with our home in TN). We loved stopping in here and it made for a great post-hike stop!
