This just happens to be a great place to stop and grab a slice. Not many pizza places will sell just a slice or two anymore. Mario's pizza is a pretty awesome thin crust pizza. Pepperoni slices are only about 3 bucks, so ofcourse I bought two. They have plenty of other stuff I crave as well. Burgers, subs and wings to be particular. Excellence. I've been to Mario's Pizza more times in the last month than I have in the last 4 years. New ownership and menu are fantastic. I don't do reviews, but as I sit here all fat dumb and happy after a meal at Mario's, I have to say that the new owners are incredible. The food from the excellent pizza, to the excellent wings, ravioli, steak sandwich's and the outstanding customer service has locked me in as a regular customer. Do yourself a favor and see for yourself. After 29 of my 33 years living in Tucson, I finally decided to give Mario's a try. I got to say, at least for this lunch special, I was impressed. So I got the lunch special (they have 3) of one one topping slice, one salad, and one drink. It I added sausage and pepperoni, one extra topping was $0.50 extra. This meal came out to under $8. This age, thats hard to find. It was a big slice also, you can see the picture. I will def be back for this. One draw back is the thin crust was kinda soggy. Thin to me should be crispy. Kind of surprised the reviews grade this place so high? It's 2 stars because the dude taking our order was super rude. He didn't greet me when I said, "hi." He just stared at me. Super weird. They definitely have that but it's also 3x as much for the price. I don't know if I can justify going back. There are certainly way better places in Tucson than Mario's. I have a friend who loves the lasagna from this place, so I figured I'd try their pizza. I got two slices of very floppy pizza, seemed a little undercooked. I had to fold it in half to eat it. It was bland and unappetizing. About the quality you would expect from a cheap microwave pizza. I felt a little nauseous after eating it and it gave me diarrhea. I hate posting negative reviews, but this is for your own good so you don't suffer the same disappointment I did. We ordered delivery from here via a third party delivery app, and what we got was something I would have received in the hot line at school -- a soggy, doughy, and dripping-with-grease pizza. It tasted like the lunch lady angrily threw it in the oven without letting it defrost, which prevented it from crisping. When we picked up a slice, the dough became flaccid in our hands and everything slide off the top of the pizza. It's really great pizza for delivery or pick up. I love the crust and I even got some additional dough to cook in my pizza oven at home.

I got the chicken parm sub for the 2nd time, I can't believe I waited so long to try Mario's! It was so good! I love that they don't add weird ingredients like some other places in town (like onions YUCK!), it's just chicken, marinara sauce, and cheese! Another plus is that they've had my order ready within 10 min both times I ordered. I will definitely be coming back! I'm on the fence about this place. I previously went and had a wonderful experience and great food. I went a second time and didn't even get to place an order. My spouse was ordering and the whole time the cashier was nodding her head. Then he said that will be it and she said "I didn't hear anything you said. " Then why nod in agreement the time? I started to order a second time and she said she couldn't hear me so I raised my voice and ordered the special and fried zucchini. She told me the price and I asked her to report the order as it didn't seem right. She repeated the order and I told her we ordered the special , she said we never said that. I told her I pointed to the special 3 times. She said I was being rude and loud. I said "you told me to be loud cuz you couldn't hear me now I'm too loud?" She started talking down to me and I told her not to be condescending. At that point my spouse asked her to cancel our order and we left. I finally made it to Mario's Pizza. The pizza is a good reminder of classic NY Pizza, BUT the REAL Reason to visit is the "Bomb" NY Cheesecake. A real sin if you fail to try a slice, plain without cherry topping worked for me! Pizza slice was crisp with adequate toppings and sauce. Crust was good, crisp and well prepared. Sauce was adequate and in total a good slice. It is a casual feeling small family restaurant with Seating in 5 booths, 5 tall tables and 3 outdoor picnic tables. Pizza sizes range in inches from 10, 12, 14, 16, 20 and prices from $6.79 to $30ish. There is a Family menu and kids meals. RC products and bottled beer. The menu also has Burgers, salads, spaghetti and appetizers available. There are also Lunch specials 11am to 3pm. I was there on a slow rainy Thursday evening and several families came in. The staff were polite and helpful. The ice maker was a little loud on the soda dispenser. Place was clean and well kept. The neighborhood is questionable with a liquor store and Circle K, but not really any impact on the meal. I noted there was no restroom entrance in the restaurant, maybe it is outside? Update... I have to be honest... the quality has gone waaay down. This pizza is so far below what it used to be that it's a shame. I think it's new owners. We couldn't even finish a couple of slices. The sauce, the cheese, the toppings...even the crust were totally inferior to what it used to be. I left in disgust and went somewhere else where I got a decent pizza. I'm leaving my original review up so you can see how much of a disappointment this experience was. I'm heartbroken. Old review from 2 years before...- Mario's is hands down the best pizza in town. Closest pizza to Brooklyn, New York! You can buy by the slice for around $2.50. I recommend asking for it well done to get that crispy crust. Marios is a Tucson institution that has been around for nearly 40 years. The pizza on its own with just cheese is not my favorite. While it tastes OK, the crust is usually greasy and soggy. You can request that they make the pizza a bit crispier, and they will do that if you wish, though it sometimes might come out overdone. What I really like about eating here though, are the toppings. If you are someone who finds cheese pizza boring and like to put a lot of toppings on them, then this is the place to get it. I recently came here and ordered what I call the Rob Special, a creation of mine that consists of a cheese pizza with extra cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon, garlic, green peppers, and onions. The only ingredient missing was chicken, because they do not offer it as a topping for some reason. I'm happy to say that they nailed my creation, and I was really happy with the results. My boyfriend wanted to try out Mario's Pizza. I had never been and he'd only tried a sandwich there before and said it was good. We placed an order to go for an XL (16 inch) Mario's special with extra cheese. You really can't go wrong with pizza, even bad pizza is still kinda tasty. But there are certainly better pies out there for the money. Maybe it would be better with fewer toppings, but our pizza was very soggy in the middle. Crust was soft and chewy, nothing crispy about it. The XL special pie cost $26 and change, but we saw too late that we could've taken advantage of a special that included breadsticks, wings, and a soda for about the same price. We may return and try the lasagna or a sandwich. The staff said the meatballs are made in house. I will say the guy who took our order and payment was very friendly. We came here because we wanted to support our local businesses. However, this was the WORST experience I've ever had with any restaurant. We made the mistake of ordering on Google through a third-party called Slice. When we received our food, it was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen/had. My daughter's chicken fingers looked worst than microwaveable chicken nuggets. Our pizza was dough was RAW in the middle. We called to see if we could take the food back, and get a refund. The lady who answered was extremely rude off the bat; told us there was nothing she could do because we had ordered through a third-party (which they provide.) She said she did not recommend ordering through the third-party, and told us we needed to call next time to order. Understandable, but this is a service that you provide to your customers and if you do not recommend it, I do not understand why you guys are even in a contract with them. We called Slice to get our money back, and they told us the restaurant was not approving the refund because to them the order was made "correctly." Called back again just to receive a bunch of attitude by a girl, then yelling to I'm assuming the owner's wife, on how to handle the situation. They called me a "b*tch", told me I was making it up, and then just hung up on me. Called AGAIN the next day to talk to the owner and he rudely interrupted me and told me he could not do anything because it was through a third-party and hung up on me again. So I'm out $30 on food I didn't even eat. Your customer service is completely terrible, you don't know how to handle the smallest of issues without taking it personal. I get it, we're in a pandemic, tempers are high but you'd think you be more appreciative of your customers who are keeping you alive during this time. read more

Mario's gets four stars for being exactly what I hoped it would be. It's not a new take on a classic, it is the classic. A big, thin, foldable New York style slice for around two bucks. Nothing pretentious about this pie, just cheesey goodness. (For toppings on "by the slice" orders they seem to put the toppings on a cooked pie and then give it a brief run through the oven. This is pretty standard in my experience, but if you don't like, say, fresh bell pepper, don't order any toppings that you only enjoy thoughoughly cooked). This is a great long time favorite of mine and plenty of other people's too. The dining room was remodeled in May 2010. My favorite is the Steak Bomb, a Philly Steak n Cheese style sandwich which comes on a toasted bun that is a light bread, not one of those heavy bread type buns. I got to say this used to be my favorite place back in the day but I am certain that you never got one sausage on Italian sausage sandwich which is what I got today and the bread is hard as a rock in different places which is weird I mean if you kept up the same level of quality that you had when you started I'm sure all your customers will be happy but I am so not happy with the money I spent at this place not at all. Then he said well if you called him there be a record of it I said I got my receipt that's my record! I believe I did a review of Mario's before, because, I went there some years ago and had pizza that I hated more than I hate Totino's pizzas fresh from the microwave. Because, Totino's pizzas aren't overpriced for what they are. And, then we got a steak sub of some sort, later in life, and there was barely anything like meat on it and we were not at all into this place. HOWEVER ... For the price, their burgers are pretty great! We can order two burgers with a little extra topping and two orders of fries for about $16.00. I can't remember if that was before or after the tip. I called Mario's Pizza tonight at 8:40. I told the lady that answered the phone that I would like to place an order to be picked up. She told me that they will be closing in 10 minutes and then they were too busy to take my order. If they're going to stop serving food at 8:40 they should make sure that their hours are updated on all of the websites. It's pretty obvious to me that this locally owned business is almost going out of business and perhaps the refusal of taking orders and claiming too busy is part of the reason why. It's amazing to me that they would refuse to sell food before official closing time which apparently is 9 not 10 PM. I will not be calling this pizzeria back to place any food orders at any time of day or night simply because of the rude treatment I received over the phone. Perhaps they need to retrain their employees or post the real working hours accordingly . read more
