It was a bunch of awesome people that I enjoyed being around, and Eka and Sariah cultivated a real sense of team.

Lift and Sprint has changed my life. Literally…read more No matter your fitness level (seriously!!!), Amy and Nic will make you feel comfortable with working out. When I started, I don't think I could run a half mile without dying. Now, I have several 5k races under my belt, and I'm hoping to do a 10k before the year is up. I still remember my first workout - my arms were so dead that I could barely turn the steering wheel while driving home. It was hard to imagine continuing to do it, but everyone was incredibly nice and welcoming. I was tired of feeling weak and tired, so I made myself go back. And back again and again, and now it's not so hard to make myself go. Once, I forgot to bring my workout clothes to work with me, so I went in what I was wearing (knee high rain boots, leggings, and a short-sleeved shirt). This is the kind of person Lift & Sprint turns you into, even if you thought it would never happen. The workouts won't be easy. But they are only 45 minutes. If Amy has had too much coffee on a Monday, you may find yourself thinking "omg, what have I done? Make it stop." But it's only 45 minutes, and trust me, you can survive 45 minutes.

And I've tried a lot of different types of workouts.... Things I love about Lift and Sprint: - you get to workout outdoors (watching the sunrise from the track is way better than a dark smelly gym) - every workout is different, which keeps things fun and interesting - they accommodate all ages, levels, and abilities (they trained me through two pregnancies) - great community vibe (no egos or BS) - close attention to form and technique (almost feels like personal training but in a group setting) Lift and Sprint has given me more than just a place to workout, but has helped me to develop healthy habits at home in a way that has permeated my life and overall well-being!

They've adapted to teaching a mix of in-person and online classes and they've done an excellent job of making things challenging while keeping workouts accessible and adaptable as needed for everyone's personal situation. All of the trainers here are excellent, but most of the classes I take are with Deanna. Training with her is an incredibly positive experience--she is completely committed to helping her clients succeed, and not just in the gym. And on those days when my tank is empty or I'm not with it for whatever reason she's completely understanding and is able to adjust things to meet me where I'm at so I still get a good workout in. A lot of it may be behind the scenes, but she works just as hard as her clients at helping them achieves their goals. Phoenix Gym is an incredibly positive, supportive, and judgement-free zone, and being a member here has been a life-changing experience.

Bootcamp has it's own deal. I came here for a free trial bootcamp class (and I'm hooked and coming back on Friday). Luckily it was 6 ladies and myself. I really liked that it was small and everyone was friendly. It started with some jumprope, followed by push ups (and repeat 5 times). Then we got our hands wrapped and put on the boxing gloves! We hit punching bags. Pretty fun to feel like Muhammed Ali. :) my knuckles are red. Boxing is only on Wednesdays. Then we did squats in between the different types of boxing moves. Then we got out some yoga mats and did different types of crunches. Sadly I forgot where my abs once were :( but I'm hoping to find them soon. Anyway, tons of fun!

They followed up with a discounted class, and my friend pushed me to join with her again, so boom. The 60 minute workout was half tread and half rowing/strength. The tread pushes me because I don't normally run. I do wish there was more of a focus on the strength portion, although do know have solely strength classes, but not many. I ended up buying a 5 class pack, which honestly I don't know if I would have done without having a workout buddy that's into it. But since I do, it's a great workout. The staff has been so friendly and accomodating. They have a shower, a few bathrooms and a few lockers. Overall, I have enjoyed OTF to push me to do longer, more intense running workouts. I look forward to trying the strength classes.

However, since I hadn't had any issues in quite some time, I decided to try Orangetheory. I will say I enjoyed all the classes and all the teachers, and the staff. They were all wonderful. However, the carpal tunnel symptoms came back. I initially froze my account, but my arm wasn't getting better. So, I told them that I wanted to give my notice as we are required to give 30-day notice which is common at most gyms. I was told at that point that they would freeze my account indefinitely, and I did not need to worry about it anymore. In fact, I hadn't thought much about the membership, because it has been quite a while (a year or two). Then, out of the blue, I received an email stating they were going to start my account and take me off the freeze. There was no concern about my arm, which still is having issues. While it is better than it was, I still cannot lift weights safely without having the carpal tunnel flare up. I explained that I have a medical issue to Orangetheory. They do not care. They told me to get a doctor's note-which means I would have to pay a doctor instead of paying them, which is ludicrous. I had not planned on this bill happening and I'm not prepared for it. I carefully budget my money and where it's going. When I wanted to cancel my account originally, I had the money in my budget for it. I am not happy that they chose NOW to change their mind when they told me I would never have to worry about it again. They lied. Do not trust them.

With the coaches help, I've lost over 40 pounds of fat in the span of a year and gained muscle mass. Urban Fitness emphasizes using free weights, focusing on form and technique before lifting heavy. You'll find that while you're able to squat heavy on machines, poor posture and bad habits from not bracing your core does little in the real world. The style of training can be transferred to every day chores from carrying bags of groceries up the stairs in one trip, to lifting your fridge while remodeling your kitchen. I never realized how little I could lift on my own without machines involved. The workouts are class based and has a coach demonstrating each set and correcting form. As intimidating as a class workout sounds, the community and friendship bond you will find in class are unmatched. It's really easy to make friends, especially if you're someone working from home and need a change of pace, this is a good place to go. The people I've met here became my family. We go on snowboarding trips and run spartan races together. It's not CrossFit and all levels are welcomed. The highly trained staff can provide all different levels of workouts whether you're new, looking for a challenge, or injured. There's something for everyone.

Joining Bay Strength was the best decision I've made in a really long time, and I'm so grateful to be a part of this beautiful place.
