I have been searching for the right gym for me, so after trying out a couple of others, I called AnyTime Fitness and was invited to come in for a one-day trial. I had to get there before 2 pm because that is the time the staff leaves on Saturdays. A perk that is super convenient for members is that they have access 24/7. When I arrived, I was surprised at how small the space was. That didn't bother me, though -- as long as there isn't a long wait for anything, who cares? What I was really not expecting was the fact that there is no locker room. There are two single occupancy bathrooms where people can change, and there are both cubbies and small lockers near the entrance that can be used to store backpacks and other items. My only real complaint is that because there is no locker room, Anytime Fitness has only one shower. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After finishing my workout and stretching, I opened the door to the shower room and saw that someone's things were inside -- even though no one was there. I kind of stared in disbelief for a moment, wondering whether it would be acceptable to put the person's bag outside the shower room while I used it. Since the staff had already left, there was no one to ask for advice or assistance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not wanting to cause any trouble with a member during my visit, I waited a couple of minutes until the owner exited the bathroom and acknowledged that he had left his things in the shower room. He did not apologize, but I thought it was understood that he would try to move quickly. I was mistaken, as this man took his sweet old time, exiting at least 20 minutes later. I could not believe he took so long knowing that there was someone else waiting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Anytime Fitness could prevent this sort of situation from occurring by adding a shower to the larger bathroom, or could at least discourage it by having a sign asking that people limit their showers to X minutes -- both to be courteous to others and to preserve water. Instead, they simply have one asking for the door to be propped open when not in use. If you live on/near Solano and don't mind showering at home, I could see this being a gym that fits your needs. This is an update to the review I posted about 10 years ago when I joined after completing cardiac rehab after my heart attack and extended hospitalization. My time here was instrumental in my near complete recovery which helped me get back on skis less than 9 months after I had my heart attack. I let my workout slip during the pandemic and am finally back in the saddle and working my way back to where I was before the orange idiot in DC bumbled the pandemic. This is a great neighborhood gym. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I always enjoy my visits/workouts![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have great staff, great trainers, great equipment, great location and reasonable rates for what they offer and they keep the place clean. I'm not a machine person. I like classes; and AF's classes are perfect! I like their TRX Circuits. No more than 8 in a class. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The trainers are wonderful. I love that this gym is open 24/7 because of my work hours, it's hard to find a gym open that I can do my workouts. I love how clean the facility is and even when I'm working out, I see the employees dusting off equipment and making sure everything is wiped down. The employees here are all so nice and they always give a wave or a hello when I walk in. I love that all you have to do is swipe your purple tag at the door that way they know that you are in the gym and you're a member. If there is no employee working there early in the morning or even on Sundays, you just have to swipe the purple tag and it lets you in. They have a variety of equipment for customers to use and they make sure all equipment are working. If they are "out of order" they usually get the equipment fixed by the next day which is nice. They have wipes located everywhere in the gym for you to wipe your equipment down after using and even before. While I have worked out here, most members are good at wiping down the equipment after use, but there are members who I notice don't even wipe the equipment down. So I honestly wipe each equipment before I use it no matter what. read more

Walked in and walked right out. Hella cardio equipment with bare bones weight equipment. Everything was old or out of service/ "parts on order". Like, how do yall not have a leg press? Anytime fitness in Sebastopol is reigning supreme and this one is the literal opposite. Pleaseeee upgrade inventory. I just moved to Berkeley and would love to be able to workout here and keep my AT fitness membership vs driving to Fitness SF by the lake... but right now I make the trek because this gym is NOT it. read more

This is a long, long overdue review. I won't name ALL the wonderful management, trainers, and staff here because I don't want to leave anyone out but they truly all deserve recognition. My husband and I have been members here for close to 7-8 years and we consider the folks that work here and work out here like family. You can see the dedication everyone has to building community and the classes I've attended and training sessions I've taken are great examples of that. The gym recently underwent (and is still going through) a bit of an overhaul/renovation. The layout is something I'm still getting used to but I see the vision and light at the end of the tunnel. Its exciting, actually. I feel really grateful to have a fun gym that still makes me feel like I got a terrific workout. read more

Went for the first time here. Upon exiting there's a door that says "emergency exit only, sound will alarm. Please use the member exit". This was the same door as the entrance so I got confused. It would help if the sign had an arrow pointing to which door to use like a normal business. I asked the lady there who was the office manager or whatever located in the back of the gym, and asked where the exit was just to make sure. She was very rude with me and couldn't answer a simple question. She then had the nerve to ask me if i was even a member there. I had a bad feeling about this place and proved to be right. Berkeley is full of uptight idiots who are miserable and I had the misfortune to interact with one here. read more

I really like Anytime! Front desk folks are all very friendly and helpful, trainers are great, and the gym itself has all the equipment one could need and is consistently clean and orderly. Never too crowded and I seldom have to wait to use anything. I am taking off one star because the gym has recently gone through a remodel that was clearly not signed off on by any of the great trainers or anyone who has ever worked out in the gym. Taking away squat racks, mirrors, and turning the great little squat room into a full cycling room is silly. I now have to wait to use equipment whereas I haven't before. Finding space in the gym to work out and check form is much more awkward now. Somehow the gym has LESS space than it did before, despite making it more open concept. It is a bit frustrating and I sense I am not alone in thinking this. I am hoping that this revision is not permanent and perhaps some things can be added back or moved around. read more

What took me so long to join this Fitness Center? The front desk people, the trainers, Renee, Jordon and Grace were all amazing. Everyone was friendly and kind. They are all very professional, knowledgeable and are really excited about what they do. I also love that there are amazing Pilates classes in person as well as online when I can't get there in person. Since the Center is 1-1/2 blocks from where I live, there's no excuse! Very disappointed that after signing up through my health insurance for the Active&Fit Direct program, selecting Anytime Fitness on Solano Avenue in Berkeley, because of its fantastic location, I got turned away by the manager. Was told there was a waiting list (no wait timetable given), but I could join now for $44. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm paying for Active&Fit Direct monthly membership which INCLUDES Anytime Fitness, and you want me to pay you an extra $44 per month? That's poor business, no matter how you look at it. Thanks, but no thanks... Great gym, great location, but bad business. read more

5 stars is not enough for this amazing gym!! I have been a member since 2014 and this is like a second home! The staff promote a warm, hospitable environment and the reception whenever I walk in the door makes me feel like I am in the cast of "Cheers". The coaches are all stellar and extremely knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. The strong sense of community from the staff, coaches and friendly members, helped to pull me out of a post-pandemic funk. This is more than "just a gym" so I encourage new or prospective members to come in, connect and be a part of this collection of amazing people. read more

I usually don't write reviews at all but I am very big on consent from others around. Today I am at the gym and this lady walks in with her dog. First off the gym is small which I like but too many people plus the dog I feel would create chaos. Also, it is very insensitive of her to bring her dog I'm not knowing people with a background with dogs. Some people are allergic and some are deathly scared of them and that's not fair to be the people who just want to work out. Overall people shouldn't assume everybody tolerates it like dogs. read more

I joined AF on Solano about a year ago after not going to the "gym" for over a decade. I had been "working out" at home with videos and decided that wasn't enough. Actually, I checked out the gym because my son was looking for a gym close by to us then ended up signing up for a 6 week challenge for myself. Best decision ever! Renee & Jordan did a great job keeping me motivated for those 6 weeks and now a year later I am still taking classes regularly and have started personal training as well (shout out to Jordan)! ALL of the staff are amazing, many exercise classes to choose from, fun events to get members excited, raffles, special guest instructors, enough machines and weights so that you are not waiting and a clean and well kept facility. Even the members that go to this gym are awesome, what else does a gym need? Highly recommend. read more

I have never felt so welcomed and so comfortable at a gym before. From day one Renee has been very helpful and has answered every question I have. She's made appointments with me to sit and speak about my fitness journey and gives great suggestions, whether it be about stretching, diet or workouts. I haven't met all the staff but Rocky and Jordan have also been very welcoming and helpful! All around a lot of friendly faces here. Also the facilities are always clean & open 24/7 which is amazing. If a machine is broken or needs a part, they are super quick to get things fixed and the separate rooms offer space to do yoga/stretching/trx and more. Most of the staff here are kind and helpful. However, Jordan was incredibly rude on several occasions with regards to use of certain areas of the gym. For context, the space is very small with adjacent rooms for squat racks and a studio for abdominal work / body weight exercise. It's okay to have rules about various spaces but completely unnecessary to communicate them in such an abrasive way. Very disappointing. read more

The Solano Avenue Anytime has been a godsend for keeping a senior like me in shape. I love the fact that they are open to members literally "anytime" through the use of their key fob entry. Their staff is always friendly and helpful. The equipment and facility are kept clean and in good working order and they have been especially careful during this Covid period. This gym is listed as being on Renew Active but when I went in to sign up they said Renew Active is full and the waiting list too long to add anyone-- the gym was more than 1/2 empty! And it's a small room. Then the rude Condescending manager tried to sell me different types of memberships. Not recommended- unpleasant experience. There is no notice online that renew act for this gym has been cancelled, not on the website listing the gyms for UHC gap insurance. I don't appreciate the attempt in trying to make this unpleasant experience of visiting this gym an oversite on my part. I noticed someone else also had a similar experience and wrote a review. I recommend customer service skills training for the management at that gym. read more

I joined Anytime Fitness this March because of their reviews, closeness to my house and best of all, the cost is actually reasonable for a Bay Area gym. AF has met all of my needs, perfect amount of equipment, it's never too busy and everyone working their is so helpful and friendly. A huge bonus is that you get a complimentary 30 minute session with one of their trainers when you join. That's how I met, Gio. I have never enjoyed working out and I knew that if my health was going to be a priority that I needed someone to hold me accountable. Fast forward 3 months and the results are honestly something I didn't think I'd ever accomplish. Gio has been instrumental in motivating me to achieve my goals. He is always fun to talk to, encouraging and understanding of what I want to get out of my sessions. It wasn't an overnight transformation and I still have a long way to go but I feel so much better mentally and physically. read more

Giovanni Vozada is a wonderful Personal Trainer at Anytime Fitness. He is strong and kind and he has a good sense of humor. We laughed a lot during my sessions, especially when I was having difficulty with an exercise. He makes exercising fun and challenging. It was great to see and feel my body getting stronger after the routines that he gave me. He focused on parts of my body, especially my upper back and shoulders that need strengthening. He was kind and patient with me when I couldn't remember the exercises. He put the exercise routines on my phone so I could do the routines on my own. He even put some of the exercises on video for me. That was great. He always showed me an exercise and corrected me when I didn't get it right. It was frustrating but helpful. He challenged me by increasing the difficulty of an exercise, but he kept the difficulty at a reasonable level so I could have the satisfaction of being able to do it correctly. He made me feel good when I got an exercise right. and encouraged me to do them on my own between sessions. I highly recommend Giovanni as a Personal Trainer to anyone who wants to get stronger and enjoy exercising more. He is a great trainer and makes working out more rewarding and fun. read more

as one who has trained and worked in gyms now for over 50 years, I can say that Anytime Fitness is easily one of the very best. They have plenty of equipment of both the free weights, exercise bikes, treadmills, and machines to meet the needs of anyone and also a huge exercise room for those who wish to do basic bodywork type exercises. The staff is also most helpful with Renee, Peter, Rocky and the trainers all top notch, with David (who has helped me on his own with some of the equipment being very helpful) and Seline who spent a ton of time with me understanding my needs and goals. Love this place and would give it 5 stars except.... unless you pay extra to join small classes (max size 8 people) the classes are super crowded. Today there were 20 people in the Pilates class - in a not very large space. It was so crowded that she had to modify the routine so we wouldn't bump into each other. Things that are great: instructors/trainers are super good. Staff is friendly. Facilities are clean. Clients are very friendly and mutually supportive during workouts. Although there are some people who are super fit and great at all of the exercises, I am never made to feel intimidated. read more

Great Pilates classes, always clean, love the 24 hour access. Nice staff. They're always upgrading things and everything is in great shape. I wouldn't recommend this gym if you are looking for a wide selection of weight equipment. They have a limited number of free weight options. Also during the busy times they are always dominated by customers that bring their friends in to try to win a popularity contest of who can bring the most friends in. They talk loud in groups to try to dominate the room and the personal trainers often join in these loud conversations that fill up the whole building. Might want to wear headphones. It is very often too hot as the air conditioning is not often left on. The TV is left on ESPN all day so often draws crouds watching it for games when the area is already extremely crowded. There are only 2 bathrooms and 1 shower room. You cant go to the bathroom without 2 people knocking on the door waiting. Not a very pleasant experience. Weight machines are often dominated by amatuers who don't know what they're doing and spend 30 minutes on a machine doing 5 sets of 20 at low resistance. These customers are never seen again. It is really annoying as it backs up your regular schedule if you are actually a regular customer. Staff is not very friendly in my opinion. The only time they have ever acknowledged me is when i went in to ask for something. Finally decided to cancel for all these reasons. At least the cancellation process was easy. read more

Hooray I love this gym! Unfortunately, through no fault of their own I'm not going to buy a membership :(. Started here with a 1 month on groupon, since I spend the last 2 weeks of December working from home. I'm already a member at Crunch in the city, but wanted something for the close to home times. On to the gym- it is small but they honestly have everything you could want. I've never had to wait for a machine, and there's much more than I've seen in other places. They have medicine balls, kettle bells, bands, steps, foam rollers, trx, plenty of free weights, you name it. I also really like the vibe here- no annoying lunks or creepers- just people doing their own thing. There's also sani-wipes everwhere- hooray! Front desk staff is very nice and there was never any pressure- even when I was handing in my key to say goodbye. I can't really justify a membership when I'm already paying for one in the city and would only be here 1-3 days/week but if you're looking for a gym in the area, I'd totally recommend this place. read more

Staff is so friendly, owner is also a cool guy! Normal neighborhood kind of friendly....which is the best! This is like a gym where you LITERALLY can come anytime. Once you are signed up you are given an electronic key to enter the facilities when you wish. Cameras for security and ooooo best gym equipment I've ever seen in any gym! Just bring headphones...You can surf the internet or watch tv while you work out ...like come on!!! The best. It's cool that they have a 14-day free trial. But for someone like me who likes free weights this gym just isn't worth the price of continuing a membership. They have a good diversity of equipment but not enough of the high demand equipment. The squat rack is your only option to use for a bench press (aside from the smith machine), and there's only one inclinable bench. So I spent a good chunk of my workout time improvising other things to add to my workout routines to kill time until the equipment I wanted was open. And that's not great for someone who doesn't want to spend all day at the gym. I tried going at various times 8am, 11am, 3pm but every time I still found myself killing time until equipment opened up. I can't imagine how annoyed I would be if I were paying $65/mo for that. That said, if you like cardio equipment, resistance machines, and floor exercises this gym might be a great fit for you. The resistance machines were rarely crowded, and there was always at least one of each cardio machine type open while I was there. And the staff seem nice and helpful too. read more

Another great thing about this gym is although it is a bit small, almost everyone who goes here are focused on working out, so this provides extra motivation. The personal trainers here are also very friendly, so I would recommend them. Another added bonus is the free classes they offer at night, which seems very popular. As stated, this gym is a bit small, so peak hours may be a little crowded (particularly the free weights).
