I have chronic low back and sciatic pain, which is what initially brought me to pilates. I now see Tiffany 1 or 2 times a week, and can really see the improvements in my strength. Tiffany is a truly excellent teacher and makes me feel so comfortable and safe in learning and trying new things. She offers wonderful encouragement and her hands on approach really helps me understand where to focus during each exercise. While classical pilates is full of subtly, I can always tell that I've had a serious workout after my lessons. In the past, I have gone to the more typical gym-style pilates classes, and while those of course have their benefits in cost and ease of access, the safety and precision that are offered in lessons with Tiffany are unparalleled.

It's surprising because the lessons themselves are not as excruciating as I imagined they might be. She has sneakily increased the intensity of my workouts each week so that I am working with twice the resistance I started at, but due to my increased strength, I've barely noticed. What I have noticed is the complete absence of my chronic low back pain, as well as a significant reduction in the little twinges of pain here and there from regular activities like looking over my shoulder to parallel park. It turns out my muscles were weak, which is why I was always in pain! Stronger muscles (especially core)= Much less pain! I recommend Tiffany especially to people who don't already have an exercise routine or who are intimidated by fitness-y types and gym vibes. She is down to earth and accepts her students where they are at, guiding with gentle encouragement and often hilarious prompts! Her cute, clean studio is conveniently located and I've never had an issue with street parking outside. She also happens to make a line of all natural body products that are super-pure and ethically sourced, called Be Real Body.

It's not an exaggeration to say that this place has been the most important healing modality for me in my 40s. I was an active rock climber and yogi for 20 years until hypermobility and repeated injuries closed out those fitness options for me. Working with LizAnne, Julia, Olivia, Karla, Michelle, Kaleen, Andrea, and Quinn, has kept me fit and strong, built up the necessary stability to keep my joints in place, and maintained my core identity as an athlete. We've worked together through shoulder surgery, necrosing sesamoiditis, carpal tunnel, rib displacement, knee displacement, sacral looseness, and more. These brilliant instructors aren't afraid to challenge you while staying within your limitations, and are brilliant at coming up with exercise alternatives to avoid injured areas. Even with the hypermobility and injuries, I'm able hang upside down and fly in this studio.

I was at the point where the injury was mostly healed but all of the surrounding muscles lost their strength and were not working properly due to over-compensation and in the case of my abs, inactivity. I came to Faye suffering from severe sciatica. I couldn't walk more than a half a block without severe pain in my lower back. Faye took on a pretty hard case with me and let me tell you, Faye is a GREAT teacher! She has infected me with Pilates. I can't stop! It doesn't hurt my back! Her passion for her calling is wonderful and inspiring. 1. She is very knowledgeable and well-trained in her field. She explains everything she is asking you to do and how it works to strengthen you. 2. She corrects your form carefully so that you will not hurt yourself. Make sure you fill out her form thoroughly so that she can help you not to re-injure yourself. 3. The studio is beautifully designed, furnished and is spotless! Very zen and all new! She takes very good care of her equipment and asks you to do so too. I really like that. It shows her respect for her calling, herself, and her clients. 4. She is affordable. Believe me, other studios are more expensive and aren't nearly as approachable or nice. 5. Her attitude towards her students is helpful, nurturing and fun. She makes you want to come back. For those who know me, exercise was NOT my favorite thing. But this is really fun. She is encouraging, even when I feel like a beached whale on her equipment. 6. You will see results. I have gone for 6 times now, I think, and I can see the results in my yoga, cycling and walking. Yes, Pilates is making other exercise more fun for me. Already, less pain, and my workers comp chiropractor says that Faye is having me do exactly the right things! Oh Joy! 7. Her studio is in a safe area with a big inexpensive parking lot about a block away. And after your workout... there's Piedmont Avenue to explore! This is great for your body, and I love it. I am not some perfectly trim, dancer's body, young, athletic hipster. I'm a plump mom in my late 50's. If I can be helped, ANYONE can be helped by Faye and her Pilates studio. Give her a try.
