Corporate/management, you might want to take a closer look. They will only take your orders through a digital system. Now this would make sense at tables that are far from the kitchen, but that would be assuming the interface wasn't clunky and nearly unusable (which it is). But for the bar, it's essentially placed half of the job of the bartender onto the customer. I.E. Open up your phone, scan our QR code which opens a clunky hard-to-navigate menu, and then manually enter your debit card info, and YES that is ONLY way you are allowed to order from the bar. Removes all human/friendly interaction that you expect from dealing with a bartender. In the course of 15 minutes, I watched 5-7 people leave the bar because they were confused and unable to get actual help from a human. What's each of those tabs worth combined? At very MINIMUM $100. And that was just my side of the bar. So you're effectively losing 100's of dollars in tabs by the HOUR. Your reviews are already so poor because of this. The bright side is, you have a fairly kind staff, excellent location, and plenty of options to offer. Why not maximize your profits by making digital ordering an OPTION instead of a mandatory duty? I am shocked that the reviews are so low, I enjoyed both food and drink at Ember while waiting for my flight. Ember also has integrated mobile ordering in their seats so you can scan and pay on your phone and your food and drinks get delivered to you. Food portions were pretty large and the drinks were tasty. The prices were a little high for what you get but considering it's at an airport it's to be expected. Our flight got delayed so we ended up working on our computers at the bar for a while and the seats were comfortable and we were able to get power to our devices pretty easily. read more

I ordered the smoked salmon seasoned with pastrami spices over toasted bagel and smashed avocado. Topped with crumbled feta cheese, minced chives, and mesclun greens. I marked *no cheese* when I ordered. What I received was a generous helping of smoked salmon (no pastrami spices). The bagel was not toasted. With creme cheese, capers, pico, and avocado. With a side of greens dressed in green salsa. The main problem is that that the greens were covered in a green salsa and the bagel was also covered in pico. I'm allergic to green chili and it was not even remotely noted anywhere that this was going to be on my meal. I generally stay away from anything spicy or questionable especially when traveling and this came so far out of left field. I had to take a handful of Benadryl and hope to make it through my flight OK. This place put my life in danger and if you have allergies I'd be really careful about ordering here. Ember -airport Covid still has its impact on the airports and many preferred food places seem to be closed-its even harder if u want vegetarian food. Luckily found this place with not real food but good enough to start a vacation. I ordered the broccoli tempura and the fries. It IS expensive to get these at $26 + tax but it is the airport, those kind of prices are expected. It is located on the way to gate C4, right opposite Potbelly sandwiches. The ordering is all on the ipad. And the receipt is either sent to your email or phone. The broccoli tempura came on a bed of some yogurt based sauce which was yummy, the tempura itself though was not fried in fresh oil, it was clearly reused oil and that made it bad. If u can completely ignore the oil, then it was good taste. The fries were fresh, including oil and those were real good. Loved them. The staff was very friendly and helpful and I appreciated that very much. Its seemed to be a great place to order some drinks at leisure but we had a flight to catch and stomach was rumbling, so off we went with our food in hand. I'll preface this with three things: I eat here every time I can in flying out of my nearest airport (IAH), I've only eaten steak here, and I just read through many of the reviews today. I agree with many reviewers that the smell of the post oak embers beckons you in. Many seem to agree with me that at Gate C4, yes, your taste buds are about to enjoy an explosive time in the best possible way. Yes, the service is not the strong suit here. Forgotten cutlery, being restricted to Covid-era QR online ordering is a mandatory thing, and having to pay the tip before service are indeed the reality here. The service I'd say is a 3. Despite the airport terminal surroundings, the atmosphere is a 4. But this is a Chris Shepard restaurant, and the steak to still technically a 5 to me (or at the least at times a 4.6) and I've ordered many different cuts here. I was stunned to see my favorite place in the George Bush Intercontinental Airport/IAH clock in at a 2.1 average and with over 900 reviews. Ember does need to consider its customers and ditch the QR thing. Opt for tried-and-true service by waitstaff. With that friendly Houston touch. I believe this, but also chuckled when I noted that the 1 star reviews are posted by people that clearly fall into two groups. The vibe for an airport setting is pretty chic and stylish.. and the ambiance wafts its way on to the prices. Was hungry before my flight and decided to try this place out. It's pricey but which restaurant isn't in the airport. I had the Tex Mex Burger ($23) which was good had some flavor and would definitely order it again. The fries were cooked perfectly. My boyfriend has the patty melt ($20) and it was nothing special lacked flavor but the fries were good. The reason why I give this place a good rating is the service. We sat at the bar and the service we received was 10/10. We were greeted as soon as we sat down and when we received our food the bartender asked us if we needed anything to let him know. Super nice and always checked in with us which I appreciate. I would dine here again. It's airport food so don't get your hopes up for anything special, but it's a great place to hangout. read more

This is a legit restaurant in an airport - grill skirt steak tikka with naan, this ain't the old food court I remember. This is a nicely put together sit down open air restaurant in the middle of the newer developed Concourse C, when I say open air don't let me confuse you it's not outside who could survive the humidity here - besides I think it's against the law to dine outside in Houston during certain months (I'm joking of course but it should be unless you're tucked behind a Taco Truck at a Shell Station) they've at least captured the open air feel with plenty of air conditioning. This place also offers great people watching opportunities so there's always the risk of cracking up with a mouthful of food so be careful of your as well as other people's over-spray. I like the seat yourself option, the well groomed professional staff and the electronic iPad menus with the pay at the table option without me having to surrender my credit card but most of all I loved the atmosphere and the food. The offerings here are vast and they range from the simplest to more complex dishes all prepared in the open kitchen which as other reviewers mention can be a positive or negative experience - I personally don't care to see my food prepared in this type of setting since there really isn't any interaction with the staff and the patrons and with the volume of food coming out of the kitchen the food prep-stations can get a little disorganized, for example I had a single pasta noddle in my dish - someone must have tossed their pasta in close proximity to my sliced steak and veggies. Although I didn't participate in the consumption of alcohol there are a few fully stocked bars and the service today was great, on a scale from zero to ten it was a 10 today but your experience may differ depending on how your day is going and your flight schedule - remember this isn't fast food so if you don't have time to relax and enjoy you might go a different route. I give the place a 1 only because 0 is not a choice. Fries will cold and old. The ribeye was tough, no taste and low quality. And for $65 one would expect more even from airport food. Waiter Oscar and Manager Dusty incompetent. Had to ask for flat ware. Both needed my phone to review the transaction because their devices were not working. To order is a QR code, submit phone, email, credit card and zip code. Then select a tip before closing the order. Does that make sense to anyone else? And in the end they managed to get my steak removed from the bill. Of course my back account doesn't reflect that. Better get Dusty's number. You order, you wait, you beg for your food, you are told that it is "coming." You go back later, you beg again, you are told that it is "coming." It comes...and is "kinda" warm. Thankfully we had hours of layover, otherwise we would still be hungry. When I wait 45 minutes for my airport food, it should still be steaming. There were lots of restaurants open in the airport on New Years Day. Ember seemed to be the most legit so I grabbed a seat as it became available. On each table there is a tablet where the menu is listed. You pick what you want and swipe your credit card. A mandatory 18 percent service fee is automatically added and there is a place to add an additional tip. Sometime after you place your order an employee shows up with your food sealed in brown containers. They quickly drop them off and scat. The goal is to have as little contact as possible. I ordered meat stuffed dumplings, fries and hot and honey wings. The dumplings were more like fried wontons. They were cold and rock hard and I would recommend staying away from this item. The wings looked nothing like the advertised picture but I would easily order them again. They were crispy on the outside and had a nice spicy to them followed by the smoothness of real honey. As part of the new build out and construction to the C concourse, Embers anchors the middle of this mezzanine. It grabs your attention by the design and all things Texas. My whole experience was quite nice and contradictory to many other reviews, but maybe it was my lucky day. Regardless, getting a seat wasn't a problem; ordering food was quite strait forward going through the ipad and we were quickly greeted soon after we sat down and were explained how things worked. The food we ordered came out quickly and was tasty. The curry hummus was tasty and would say it was a 3 star dish, but what was perfectly cooked and juicy was the grilled half chicken, 5 stars for this dish. It was really yummy and cooked all the way through, which many times you don't find. Service was attentive and paying wasn't an issue since it was all through the ipad and leave's out the hassle to chase down the bill. Overall, my experience at Embers was good and also a nice people watching location if you have time to kill. read more

Ember is another one of several OTG restaurants in Terminal C of IAH, where United flies domestically. OTG is the company modernizing the airport by putting ipad/credit card swipes/outlets at virtually every seat in the gates and restaurants. You order and pay with minimal human interaction, and after you get your food, you can surf the web for free. I and two coworkers were enroute to home and decided to have an early dinner at Ember. They serve a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and more elaborate entrees like steaks while having good options for vegetarians too. I liked the Ember Burger, cooked medium - pretty juicy cheeseburger on a buttery bun. Like everything else in Texas, its bigger than most other burgers. Fries were long, thick, incredibly soft inside with a crispy exterior. Solid burger. I also ordered the root veggies for share and it was an excellent side dish - just to add a bit of healthiness back to the meal. Despite the automated nature of the restaurant, we still got great service from Adam who refilled our waters and made nice small chat in joining our debate of who does more running: Basketball referees or Soccer referees, LOL. read more

Disgusting, dishonest, and disgraceful I ordered on one of the iPad ordering devices at 8:30pm (they have iPads on every table), when they actually closed early before 9pm. A waitress came around saying "sorry we are actually closed and we will refund you." They never did. I called customer service and they said they will look into it, but never did.
