A waitress came around saying "sorry we are actually closed and we will refund you." They never did. I called customer service and they said they will look into it, but never did. I ordered the classic Benedict at $16 and when it came it didn't have any ham on it. I needed to order the ham Benedict for $18. I asked if I could return the meal and buy the more expensive Benedict but they have a procedure that involves the manager and then waiting a week or two for a refund that wasn't easy to get. I could hardly finish my meatless Benedict as it was like eating fried chicken without the skin as it lacked a satisfying flavor. Before I posted this review, I took the time to first see if these folks at Ember had a website so I could contact them direct. I couldn't find one so I'll share my feedback here, although I would have felt better sending it to them direct. I used to really enjoy this place when I was traveling more often before the pandemic. I would make it a goal to eat here between flights as the food was terrific. But, sadly things have changed and the lunch I had last week was terrible. I left after the meal wishing I had not made the intention to take my wife and I here between flights. We ordered the hummus, which was average. And we ordered the shwarma sandwich, was just a bad choice. The bread on the outside was soft and cool, missing texture and just not good. The inside was worse. The chicken seemed as if it had been sliced up off a breast, lacking any seasoning at all. There was an overall lack of flavor, seasoning which resulted in a bland, messy kind of experience that left me really disappointed. The only reason I didn't give this a 1 star is that the service is fine. But in terms of the food, it's a bland, boring effort, at least in what I ordered, and it's a departure and far cry from what this place used to be. Maybe an off day? You seat yourself and order through an iPad. You have to pay and tip before your order will even go through. There is no real way to ask for something on the side, only to say you don't want it. I ordered the Korean chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken was hot and crispy but a bit overcooked, so a little dried out. Although it was suppose to be boneless it had some pieces with connective tissue. The Korean sauce is spicy like Sriracha but with extra spices like sesame. The bread was ice cold as if it had just come out of the fridge. Some of their sandwiches come with Texas toast. This definitely could have used some butter and toasting. The fries were not well seasoned and were very bland. After you make your purchase you get credit to play games on the iPad. There are outlets at every seat. I would not eat here again. read more

So we sat. Then we had to use a QR code and create an account in order to order food and drink. Then you pay on the link and someone comes up and quickly drops your plate off and is gone before you can ask for ANYTHING. I ordered the Turkey Club Sandwich. It was lacking in ingredients and flavor. There was literally a teaspoon of aioli sauce on the dry af bread; more bread than anything. My fries were cold and appeared to be fried in old, dirty grease, as they had black crumbs on them. I legit thought they served me bologna, that's how processed their 'meat' was. Yuck. All that for $22.72!!!!!!! I drank water and had to flag someone down to reluctantly get it for me. This place sucks. Save your money. read more

Ember is one of the restaurants in a new and improved section of terminal C at IAH airport. The place looked interesting to me when I was last at the airport, which prompted me to stop by and check it out. After I got seated by a host, I was approached by a waitress who explained to me to how I can order from the iPad at the table. I tried to scan by boarding pass which I struggled a bit until I realized that I need to scan at the camera and not at the touchscreen. Duh! By the way, I think there was no point of scanning boarding pass anyway unless you want to check your flight status from the iPad. Ordering food was easy, I scrolled, and picked what I wanted -- Poached Shrimp sandwich. It came out about $17 with tips. After a long 5-10 minutes, my order arrived with fries, which I thought was it was pretty decent. The sandwich was huge so I had to cut it in half. The poached shrimp was not that great. It was bland and not very flavorful. I wish I had ordered something else like Korean Chicken sandwich or Catfish Po-Boy. My point is that there are many items to choose from the menu, which is a plus. In the end, I had leftover to finish on my flight. Since I ordered online, I also paid online. However, there was a slight problem. When I was ready to leave I hadn't received my receipt via email yet. I kind of needed it for my expense report so I asked my waitress for help. She had to contact her manager, and then 5 minutes later the receipt came in my email inbox. I think the novelty of ordering food via iPad, playing games while eating, and other things that came with this type of setup was OK. If you have time at the airport then it is great, but if you are in a hurry then what's the point? There are Wendy's and Potbelly Sandwiches nearby. In the end, the whole experience was just OK, just like the food. I can't give Ember anything more than a 3-star rating. read more

For a basic bacon cheeseburger and a Bloody Mary the tab was $53.26. No sides, no extras, nada. The Bloody Mary was like a can of V8 with some cheap vodka in it. Says it was Titos.... The taste buds determined that was a dam lie. The olives didn't even have the pimentos in them lol. The burger didn't look bad but lacked any real flavor. Sad state of affairs for sure. Each seating has a tablet allowing you to order you meals and drinks; and surf the net for stuff. Free WIFI in terminal is available. The atmosphere is vegas retro. I don't know, just made that up. Yet I feel like I'm in a lounge at a casino on the LV Strip. Mixed pop is playing with a few decent tunes. They serve Katz coffee steamy and strong. As a American I appreciate the big mug of hot Joe. I gulp a blast of hot coffee like a marathon runner grasping for water. Bam. Next you will find a Pork Belly Eggs Benedict on the food menu. You should do that. It's a well balanced plate with two poached eggs, mixed leaf greens and potatoes. I am not supposed to eat grains. However I break diet any time I see eggs Benedict on a menu (and sometimes for a craft burger, craft beer, and calamari) The whole tablet thing is really cool. You can scan your ticket so that the Big Brother will warn you when your gate is boarding. You can order all your meals and cash out. My family of 5 sat down to eat, ordered, the waitress told us you have to pay right now and tip me 30%. THEN, we said thats crazy but ok, got out the cash to pay, then she said we dont take cash. We asked for the manager. The manager eventually came over and said, we dont want your money , we dont take cash. Then he proceeded to say no place in the airport does. False. The food took over a half hour to start coming out, one at a time, we finally had to ask about the last item on our order. After we asked it came out immediately, guess it had been sitting, waiting. Okay, to be fair, it is airport food, but this place is even bad for airport food. The reason for the 2 stars is because the place is quite pretty, the seats are comfortable, and you can charge your phone. The positive parts of the experience end there. First, the PoS system on the table is clunky and confusing. You have to scan the barcode on your ticket - for no apparent reason except to creepily know who you are... you also can't split your tab between food - corporate covered - and a cocktail - personal expense. That was annoying. They system asks for the tip amount before you have ever met the server. If I had known that I was going to get bad service from 3 different servers, I probably wouldn't have pretipped 20%. The servers did keep my soda filled, but if they had worked the tab right I would have likely had 2 overpriced cocktails durning my three hour layover and doubled their tip, but instead, I was stuck ordering overpriced food from a glorified iPad. The food itself was bland and generic. I had a "poached" shrimp po'boy, which sounded lovely until I realized that is was actually cheap shrimp salad. I asked for a second plate when the food arrived, and the server asked the bartender who made a face as though I asked for the moon. Never got the plate. Also, on an odd note, they brought me a plastic knife and a metal fork. I get the fear of metal knives behind airport security. But honestly, if I were so inclined, I could do more damage with the fork. Overall, you are better off going to one of the fast food joints down the walkway. read more

It took 20 mins to place an order because the cell service is bad here and you need to connect to wifi but there's nothing instructing you do so, and then we waited at a minimum another 20 mins and have yet to receive the drip coffee we ordered. We had to keep bothering the staff just to finally get a cup of coffee and that doesn't include the food order that was put in. Don't ever stop here, it's the worst airport experience I've ever had. I gave it two stars because the place looked pretty clean and my food came out quickly. The other reason I only gave it two stars is because the mild spicy chicken sandwich and fries was lackluster. Big bun with a smidge of some colored sauce and pickles, limp greasy fries, almost 5.00 for a Diet Coke with no opportunity I could see for a refill. I asked for Mayo and got nothing. There was a small plastic container of ketchup for the limp fries. I also pre tipped 18% and had I known the value and taste of the meal, and since there was no actual waiter, I would have gave nothing. Next time I'm in terminal C I'll hit Pot Belly. Ember has an upscale atmosphere and food presentation, for an extra upscale price (it is in the airport after all). The food was tasty, the drinks had some issues. I know that airport food is expensive, but wow Ember was a tier above the rest. Our party came on a weekday for lunch. It was a few minutes before our server came to greet us, and we started to mess around on the iPad that is at every table. This is the way to order and pay for your meal. It is integrated into United rewards so you could pay with miles if you wanted. I ordered the Roasted Beet Salad with a side of Redneck Cheddar Mac N Cheese and the Jade Cloud Tea to drink. !!!When ordering a tea, you can add on honey and lemon, DO NOT do this from the iPad. They don't give it to you on the side, they pre-load your cup with it, and they put wayyyy too much honey in there, 4x the amount I would have added. So order the tea, then ask for those items on the side so you can add them yourself.!!! Back to the tea, the Jade Cloud is actually Dragonwell/longjing tea. This has a distinctive taste from other green teas, which I do not like (jasmine is the best to me, longjing is worst), and if I had known this I would have selected another green tea or an herbal tea. The tea comes with loose leaves in a glass with a strainer, and you can select how long to steep before pouring. They already add the hot water and with lots of leaves the tea taste is strong (borderline bitter from oversteeping). The Roasted Beets Salad was flavorful, healthy, good size portion (probably most worth the value paid). It combined with the mac n cheese was 30% more food than I needed for a sitting. The Redneck Cheddar Mac N Cheese used cheddar cheese, likely with some pepperjack since it has a little kick (not strong, very tolerable). The last item was 2x Short Ribs. These weren't short ribs, but rather one single giant rib that was slow-roasted and the meat falls off of the bone. The rib was adorned with carrots and potatoes, but the rib meat was the highlight, oh so tender, enough sauce in the dish to spoon over the meat and enjoy the moist meat. We'd get it again, but it is $39, so we are hesitant there on the price. read more

The food was nothing special at all and the service was absolutely terrible!! 45 minutes after being seated I finally asked for a water and the waitress just looked at me, mumbled something and walked away and I never got a water... I ordered food on the QR code because it's pretty much a self service type of restaurant and they brought the entree out before the appetizer and still didn't get a water until I asked another person. Service is non-existent. When you use their iPad to order and it still takes 22 minutes to get your food when the place is half empty. And that is after you had to get up and go ask for it. Then the request a server button on the iPad is ignored even after four requests. So you get up twice - once to get your own condiments for the food the server dropped off without offering anything. Then again to get your drink refilled. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor when you have to get up and go to them. Makes me wish I had not tipped well. The food was over cooked as well. Well, we figured out it's not the servers that are lacking, it's the whole IPad ordering system. Once you figure out how to order you wait. And then someone drops off your order. If you need anything else, mustard, hot sauce etc it never comes. You have to go back to the IPad to order again. I ordered another beer. It never came. 15 min later my wife went up to ask the bartender about it. She was sternly told to wait till it came out. Finally another bartender looked into it. The email I received said I had paid for the beer but it was not in their system. That bartender gave me a bigger beer. He was cool. Passing through on my way to Nashville TN I tried Ember! It's quick and easy to order at this bar restaurant, the food and drink were good. I just missed the whole talking to server and such. It's very "Non" personal, you do it all yourself. You have to ask for utensils, etc. And if you don't request your receipt emailed to you, you have to have manager print one out. Not sure why the ratings are so low, what do people expect from airport food? I got a tex mex burger and the beef patty was large and juicy, the avocado was nice, and the fries were delicious as well.
