Great service and food. I had scrambled eggs, bacon and a pancake delicious. My friend had cream chipped beef, she liked her meal too.

Just there yesterday. Was waiting for a table - standing where it says wait to be seated. A man woman and baby walk in after us. The hostess comes up and says how many and seats the folks who walked in after us. I tried to speak up but they moved on. While still waiting the guy behind the bar says how many. We tell him and he proceeds to do whatever he was doing behind the bar. Does not seat us. Does not get someone else to seat us. I assume he was the manager? We finally get seated by the hostess. No menus, no silverware, no can we get you a drink like she had just done with the couple she sat before us. We sat for about 6 minutes with no one coming to our table. There were plenty of servers walking by including the hostess. We would have left but we were meeting another couple. So I got us menus. Then I flagged someone down who finally waited on us. They were open tables so it was not like they were super busy. The staff was congregating around the coffee pot chatting. While the waitress who ultimately waited on us was apologetic and good - it wasn't her fault - we probably won't be back. Food was ok. Nothing special. read more

This restaurant is located in a small shopping center off Lancaster Avenue in Berwyn. There's a parking lot. There's indoor and outdoor dining. We chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful day. We had the Hangover which was bacon, eggs, cheese, and potatoes on a hoagie roll and the Breakfast BLT which was a BLT with scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious. What a hidden gem! I've heard people talking about this spot, but have never made it over. It's a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, with friendly staff too. They have a surprisingly large menu, with a nice weekly special section. The food we had was excellent. I was torn between a few options, but landed on the omelet. Had a wonderful breakfast / experience here today. I was greeted warmly upon walking in and the staff was all very friendly. I went there with my husband and infant, we had plenty of space at our table and the changing table in the family bathroom was clean and sturdy. Great family friendly environment. The food was incredible and they had ENDLESS gluten free options for breakfast and lunch. I had gluten free cinnamon pancakes that were better than any pancakes I've had in my life, gf or not. The Elvis French toast was phenomenal. Usually when I get French toast, it's too sweet and I don't want to eat it all, but this one was a perfect ratio - the entire thing was finished in no time. The food is good. The menu is imaginative. Servers are pleasant. Only 4 stars because the servers drop the food off and disappear. They come back with the check, but They never come back to offer more water or coffee. If you want jelly for your toast you have to hunt down your server. This policy is so consistent over the years I am thinking it is their way to discourage lingering. Also, no separate checks. Come with exact cash if you are going dutch or allow time to gave someone go through the check person by person. read more

We stumbled upon this cafe by accident on New Years Day and we are so glad we found this gem. It's so close to our house and the food was delicious. I had sausage, two eggs and one chocolate chip pancake. The food was hot, fresh and was exactly what we wanted for breakfast. Zach had the cinnamon roll pancakes and they are a must try!! Em J's is in the Berwyn Primary Shops stripmall, with Candelario's Pizza, Surrey Consignment, and Endless Tans. This stripmall is on the same side of 30 as their neighbor, Goodwill. Em J's is open every day of the week. They serve breakfast and lunch every day except Sunday, which is just breakfast. Unfortunately, they do not serve dinner. Wish they did! This is 3 miles from my house, but somehow the day I went, there were three detours on the way there! Unbelievably ridiculous, and made a 5min drive turn into 20! I got there pushing the kitchen close-up time, and though I called ahead, waitstaff was a little put out. However, when I said I could return another time, they brightened some, said not to worry. I think our server was just a generally serious person. So cutting to the chase, the Sweet Potato Hash is five stars right there. One of the best dishes I've had in a LONG time, and one for the food memory album. May I just quote their menu here, because it is pure poetry: " Bacon & caramelized onion, poached eggs & chipotle hollandaise." Mmmm. It is presented in the most beautiful fall-color-rainbow-on-a-plate, and tastes even better than how gorgeous it looks! Amazing! Totally worth a trip for that dish alone! Flavors are layered so thoughtfully, with sweet, salty, savory, eggy, tastes and textures. It seems like there is more going on in there than there is, and it is just plain taste art. The Chunky Monkey Waffles are very good too, for that waffle craving. Seriously, this should be a dessert, IMO, but my 1yo thinks it definitely should be how every meal is created, with fresh vanilla cream, bananas, walnuts & chocolate chips atop your food. The Belgian waffle was perfectly rendered, with slight crunch, and a pancakey flesh. It held rigid against the gooey stuff, and worked beautifully in a texture combo. My son ate a lot of everything, and I was a happy mom to see him so pleased! The interior is simplistic, standard for a breakfast place. It is clean and neat, with nice light coming in the front windows. There is a segregated room toward the back, which would be great for a small party. You ask for your check at the table and pay at the register on the diner-esque counter toward the front. Em J's has a cafe/diner/family restaurant feel with a gourmet-inspired menu, serving up exceptional American breakfast and lunch fare! Walked in here because of Yelp reviews and was not disappointed! We were promptly greeted by staff and immediately seated, no wait! (We came on a Sunday morning and there were a lot of people already in the restaurant.) Facility was very clean and seemed very cheerful. Handwritten special boards were a nice touch! Our orders were taken in a timely manner and our food was brought out shortly after. Everything was great! My boyfriend had the Elvis French Toast (bananas, bacon, honey, caramel, chocolate and peanut butter chips) and I had the Lemon Pound French Toast special complete with spiked blackberries (came almost syrup-like so I didn't use any maple, but it think it would have taken away from the flavor!) We even order a side of eggs, which were cooked to perfection. Coffee was hot and frequently refilled by multiple servers. All in all, we were in and out under an hour. Speedy, friendly service. This is a family run business. However the service is really slow and seems like they are short on staff. Hence why they recently had to close down for some time and will reopen in mid September. They do have delicious baked goods though. One thing I don't like is that they charge you a fee for splitting your breakfast. They have really good food overall and I want to give this place a higher review. However, the owners can be very challenging to work under. read more

We had a very nice hostess and server! We ordered Eggs Benedict and the sunshine waffle and we were both pleased with our meals.
