I have been to this place before but today was just a quick pop by to get some pastries. The cafe is very cute and aesthetic, I've gotten the Eggplant Caponata before and it was out of this world. I'll give it a 20/10. Today I got the Konign Amann (caramelized croissant), Canelé, and the sea salt slabes. All of them were delicious and had perfect sweetness. The Konign Amann (caramelized croissant) was heavenly!! Definitely will be going back to try everything else. They have wide variety of bread, cakes, pastries, sandwiches, and coffee/tea. Lovely place! I could definitely see myself coming here often to do some work if I was a bit more local. I noticed right away that staff were friendly and welcoming. My coffee was great; I ordered a latte and it was made well, definitely the quality of espresso I was expecting. The pastries looked amazing. I opted for the pain du chocolat, which was loaded for chocolate and super flaky but soft on the inside. Absolutely perfect! Indoors got pretty crowded, but I was able to find a lovely place to sit outside. Hope to return whenever I'm back in Malvern to try something new! read more

Caught an invite to a private friends & family event; the experience made me a fan! My London Fog made w/ vanilla syrup was executed perfectly. It was warming & had a perfect foam on top. Harissa Breakfast Sandwich was served on the most beautiful, slightly glossy, seeded brioche bun w/ egg, cheese, bacon, & arugula. But what got stuffed down my face the fastest was the kouign-amann. Oh my lord, layer after layer of lacquered pastry w/ this sugared & salty crust. I see why the name of this establishment is "Buttery." I could've eaten this "croissant" all day! Wow, Malvern Buttery's baked items are seriously incredible. We tried a bunch of items to go, pecan brownie, cardamom monkey bread, and pumpkin chai cake. The cake was my favorite, super moist and flavorful. The brownie was a cross between pecan pie/a decadent rich chocolate brownie. My husband loved the personal size monkey bread. ordered the $15 Katsu Chicken Sandwich from Malvern Buttery, and wow... this was not a katsu, it was a catastrophe. I drove all the way there expecting a crispy, golden, mouth-watering sandwich -- and instead unwrapped something that looked like it lost a fight on the way out of the kitchen. Naturally, I called to ask for a refund... and the manager hung up on me. Honestly, that was the fastest service I got all day. Shame it wasn't with the food. For a place with such a great reputation, this whole experience was a shocking plot twist. Food quality: nope. Customer service: aggressively nope. Overall vibe: like ordering katsu and getting chaos. I've legit had better sandwiches at random gas stations during road trips -- and at least they don't hang up on you. My best friend introduced me to this spot while I was in town yesterday. HIGHLY recommend, I'm only a bit disappointed we didn't come earlier in the morning to take advantage of the wider assortment of goodies. We came around noon and stayed until they closed, the servers were so generous and allowed us to stay a little past close without making a big fuss about it because we lost track of time. All the servers we interacted with were super personable and took their time with allowing you to view their options without making you feel rushed even though they were super busy. I ordered the Turkey club sandwich, apple bourbon cake and a latte with added vanilla bean and caramel syrup. Everything was great! I was surprised by the variety of food and treat items they had, and I loved the variety of seating options available. The decor gave farmhouse vibes, but it was super comfortable and they maximized the space well as far as seating was concerned. This is a wonderful local spot that understands you eat first with your eyes. Everything in the case is visually beautiful and tastes as delicious as it looks! For the lunch hour everything was fresh and service moved quickly. Very impressed with how pleasant everyone was who worked there. Would have loved one of everything but settled on splitting two sandwich's. Both were 100% outside my comfort zone but were VERY worth trying. The Harissa Roasted Veggie sandwich is my new favorite thing, 11/10 recommend if it is available when you visit. Also came home with a boxed of baked goods to share with the family. I know this place usually gets greats reviews but I want to point out a few things that are going absolutely wrong at the buttery. 1. The space: Even though they expanded over the summer, the place is always extremely crowded more often people finding it very difficult to find spots especially in the winters and when it's cold outside. They kind of create a very hostile environment for people eating and the one waiting with absolutely no space to stand. There is a concept called "reservation" and most of your customers are aware of this option (JFI). 2. Ingredient list: Do not trust their list of ingredients. They served us bacon in what was termed as a vegetarian soup. I asked for the vegetarian broth and made sure it was vegeterian but must say was very disappointed when the bacon touched my lips. They just don't get what actually vegetarian means by definition. I went and spoke to the manager but all he did was as apologise and do not even offer to take it off our bill. To all our vegeterian friends out there, this place is a NO go. They do not care about any of your preferences because all they care about is quantity they serve and not quality. The canelle and the queen amahn are exquisitely decadent!!! Get them!! It's almost hard to explain thecarmelized croissant. It makes you close your eyes with each mouthful. It's that good! This place is definitely a bakery. Breakfast plates no thank you. I got the eggs and beef short rib. The sauce on the short rib was pretty bad. The breakfast potato's were soggy, blah. This place is a bit overwhelming and pretty pricy and the pastries are on the overdone side for me. That being said- WOW what a place for flavors, textures, freshness in every nook and cranny! If you want pastries, or salads, or fun healthy(ish) desserts, if you want a little home taste of french flavor- YES YES YES! A lovely spot to drop in on and have a fancy lunch or snack. A beautiful, bright and airy bakery! My first visit was on a rainy Sunday morning in February. The line to order was about 10 minutes long. The seating area - which fits maybe 20-25 people? - was packed. I tried the plain crossiant (the chocolate was sold out) and it was pretty good. Staff was super friendly. The day after I visited, the Buttery was featured on Fox29 news and I saw an array of goodies I can't wait to try on my next visit! Was up in the area with my wife to visit her father who was in a local hospital. My wife searched on line for a local restaurant for lunch, she found the Buttery. We used GPS to find the restaurant and I was delighted to find that they had parking in the back. A very big plus!!! We entered the restaurant and entered the queue to order our lunch. I ordered the turkey-cheddar sandwich and my wife ordered salmon sandwich plus lattes. They gave us a number and we found a table to sit at. Our meal was ready in a few minutes. My sandwich was fresh and very tasty, full of flavor!!! My wife's sandwich was fine, but after she took a bite of mine she was convinced that next time she'll be getting the turkey- cheddar. The lattes were great too. Had to order a 2nd for the drive home. In addition to the great food the staff were very friendly. Definitely a go-back when we come back up this way. read more

I have been a fan of the Malvern Buttery for years. The food is always good, and they make a great cappuccino. They have delicious breads and some really unique pastries (the strawberry basil hand pie is my favorite by far). It is almost always crowded ,which is great to see for a local business. The food is on the pricier side, but I think it's worth it for the quality and a nice treat for yourself. They do not have a ton of seating inside anymore ( there is more outside for nice days), so just be prepared that you may not be able to stay and sit down! We had such high hopes based on the long lines and the positive yelp reviews. But the pastries just did not live up to the hype. We ordered the kouign-amann, morning buns, chocolate croissant, almond croissant. All of the were super dense and heavy. Despite the name 'Buttery' the pastries were not fluffy, flaky or light. Morning buns were dense. The cinnamon sugar coating gave the pastry a decent flavor but that was about it. The kouign-amann was so dense a plastic knife broke while I was trying to cut it. The outside caramelized top was the only saving grace. The two croissants were largely unmemorable. My little who is typically a chocolate croissant fiend couldn't even be bothered to finish it. The cafe itself was airy and quite lovely. We really dont understand the positive reviews and the long lines. Maybe we didnt order the right things. Our recommendation is if your are looking for flaky and delicious pastries, look elsewhere. read more

I stopped in here as I was in Malvern for some business. Choices were much more plentiful compared to my visit 3 y ago. I found the price of $16 for an egg sandwich a bit pricy. The almond croissant was prices similar to other Chester County destinations but overdone to the point of almost burnt. The coffee was fresh and smooth tasting. Tables are at a premium. There are only 3 4-tops and some high and slippery stools facing the front wall. Signs on the table urging those finished eating to move indicated that there just aren't enough seats to satisfy the need. read more

Greek café with indoor and outdoor seating located just off Lancaster Avenue. Unfortunately this is just for the atmosphere and drinks as I didn't get to eat the food yet. Staff is friendly. They have a robust menu of both food and drinks and a great atmosphere to sit inside or outside. Enjoy the weather. A unique feature of this café is that day ask patrons not to take up tables to work and offer a separate workspace at their bar. While I love a good workday in a café, it is nice to have some separation from the screens and also not have people make that their new office when people are waiting for tables. Used to be a regular, but won't be back after a "new" change in policy where they won't accommodate dietary restrictions. I stop by Malvern Buttery every 1-2 weeks to pick up pastries and have ordered the Harissa BEC sandwich. I have a strict dietary restriction and cannot eat undercooked eggs. Because of this, when I've ordered the BEC sandwich I've asked for hard scrambled eggs instead of a fried egg, which can be undercooked. I was last at the Buttery on November 6, 2025 and they were happy to accommodate this. Today, when I placed the same order, I was told there could be "no substitutions" and that was their "policy." I mentioned they have done this in the past for my dietary restriction, but the person at the cash register checked with the head chef and he said "no." Very disappointing - they likely started pre-making their breakfast sandwiches if they no longer will cook the eggs to order. Be aware of this before visiting the Buttery if you have dietary restrictions. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I did love the outdoor area to sit. There is street parking but I wouldn't return for the pastry or baked goods. I was disappointed. Everything is simply so overpriced and nothing is worth the amount. I imagine in that area they need that price for the real estate and I would absolutely pay for it, if it was delicious.
