The outside looked busy but we took our chances anyway. We are always willing to wait for good food. We were surprised to be seated immediately when we came in. Our server was very attentive and was constantly checking in on us if we needed anything. The 12 year old gobbled up her two strawberry stuffed crepes. The potato pancakes were delicious and stuffed with bacon. Adding the apple sauce to them was a pleasant surprise. I had the giant German pancake which was enough to share with the whole group! (Leftover pancake was nice toasted on the campfire much later). It was eggy and fluffy and with generous scoops of mixed berries. The sides were generous as well. Just had to update my review to give a shout out to Holly and Jen, the other bartenders I had the pleasure to hang out with on a recent stopover in Grants Pass. I met Holly the first time I went to the Purple Parrot before Covid. She was so sweet and accommodating and did her best to create my favorite cocktail (Hemingway) with the bars limited ingredients. It was so nice to see her again on this trip. Jen is a total hoot and so interesting. I loved talking to her about mountain life and her recipes. I may have to take a road trip over the Christmas holiday to try to weasel some of her homemade goodies from her. One of my favorite bars anywhere! read more

I didn't have high hopes for my breakfast experience here, as breakfast isn't my favorite meal and I don't much care for chain restaurants. Boy was I surprised. I ordered the stuffed hash browns, which I have never heard of, and they were heavenly! I highly recommend them. What really made our meal was our server, Hope. Not only was she amazing, sweet and attentive, we watched her go the extra mile with every table. There was an older gentleman sitting across from us who was very hard of hearing. Hope literally got down to his level and was extremely patient in helping him. Not only was she able to figure out how to communicate what he wanted, but she was so reassuring to him that he wasn't a problem. She melted our hearts. We were visiting due to a medical emergency with our 94 year old grandfather and all I could think of is I hope he is treated this well out in public. We will be back! Thank you Hope! read more

I've been all over Oregon and have tried Elmer's everywhere. The worst one is in Hillsboro. Hire someone who can cook...or get a better head chef. The best one is in Grants Pass. Whoever runs this kitchen knows what they are doing! The whole staff does a great job! It's obvious that whoever runs this Elmer's is organized, intelligent, and at least to an outsider, appears to understand what team work is about. Beyond that, the food is very good, more than that, they heard me! I like my scrambled eggs soft. That's how they came and it surprised me! After two tries at the Hillsboro Elmer's, they still couldn't get it right. Not only that, but the hashbrowns were nasty. Elmer's is conveniently located within walking distance of several hotels which was the main reason we chose to eat dinner here. The food is typical diner style. We had a French dip with fries and a breakfast of eggs, potatoes and bacon. The meal was average because the cook had a love affair with the salt shaker. Elmer's is such a cute restaurant! That's why it's so sad that we had such a terrible experience! Riley was our server. Management, she needs to immediately be retrained to learn the "Steps of Service." Other than having a passable personality, she was awful! Once seated, she did not come to our table for at least 10 minutes. We had to ask for everything: drink refills, napkins, items included with my meal etc. etc. When our food was finally delivered, we could tell it had been sitting in the window for a while. The gravy was coagulated. The food was warm, not hot. Riley delivered the food and disappeared again, so she never checked back to see how everything was. If she had, she would have learned that my turkey dinner was so salty. Everything was over salted: gravy, turkey, vegetables. I don't know if you make your food from scratch or it's received already prepared, but there was no reason for it to be so salty. If our server wasn't inattentive and absent during our meal, I could have switched to something more palatable. I don't know if she was doing her side-work or off rolling silverware, but if you're going to be a server, you need to regularly check on your tables so you can: see how they're doing, supply their needs, and correct any issues. It would have been great to actually have a server, or even a manager to touch the table at Elmer's, maybe, the experience and the food would have been better! read more

Nothing about what we had stood out. The service was so so. I got the Light Turkey Dinner. It had One slice of turkey, salty dried out stuffing, and burnt carrots on my plate. After the food was delivered, the next time our (friendly) waitress came to the table was with our check. I needed a water refill & wanted more of the "endless fries." My local relatives recommended Elmer's for breakfast at the end of Thanksgiving week before our trip back to the Bay Area. We got there around 7:30am on Sunday morning and it was not crowded and we were greeted and seated promptly. The interior is very comfortable, clean and without that chain feel. The service staff were all friendly and professional. I ordered the Potato Pancakes with bacon and eggs and the pancakes (just like in the site photo) were the best I ever had. Stayed in the Holiday Inn next door and dropped in for dinner. Very friendly decor and ambience. However, service was very slow and we had to wait nearly 30 min for a waitress to take our order. She did apologize later for the wait. Ordered a seafood & chips (clam chowder side), garden vegetable omelette (1 buttermilk pancake + seasonal fruit side), 1/2 garden sandwich + 1/2 salad. After being seated it took a bit before anyone came to take my order and even then, I had to ask for a breakfast menu as I was hankering for it even that late in the afternoon. For a place that touts serving breakfast all day, I was surprised a small selection if not their entire fare wasn't included in the lunch/dinner menu I received. I would love to give this place another star because the manager and waitress, Tonja, were very friendly, polite, and happy to be of service. Even the host (sorry, didn't note the name) was just as cheerful. But the stars were plucked away because, aside from the menu situation: - The eggs (ordered scrambled) were dry and unseasoned; - The bacon was overdone, stiff as a board, and way too salty (does the wait staff/management/cook even try their food now and again?); - The Dutch Baby (like an oversized crepe served drenched in butter with lemon slices and powdered sugar) was burnt brown on the edges and the server had already offered/suggested to take it back saying it was overdone and temperamental; however it would take about 15 minutes. Granted, the second time around it came back perfect and was well worth the wait - delicious. And the manager came out in the meantime to apologize for the problem and said he would just charge me for my large orange juice (it was grapefruit, but whatev) as their goal was to have a happy customer who wants to come back. Ironically he kept eying my cell phone which had my Yelp check-in page still in place. I can't help but think that if I hadn't (a) taken a picture of my spent eggs and bacon and posted them to Yelp and/or (b) checked in at the very moment I arrived, if none of that would have taken place. It just seemed a bit suspect to me. It was a clean restaurant and like I said, the people were polite and friendly. Two stars = Meh, I've experienced better and in truth, I have. I'd spent 6 hours on the road, had another 3 to go and didn't want to be flattening my butt on their seats for another 45 minutes. So yes, they could do better and not necessarily on the count with the Dutch Baby - more with the immediate service (sitting in a fairly empty restaurant tucked at the back in the traffic path to the restrooms/bar and not being serviced was depressing especially since I was by my lonesome), providing a breakfast menu along with the meal of the hour, more attention to all the food they serve. read more

We're from Los Angeles and had asked friends where to stop when in Oregon. We made a note to check out Elmer's and we almost didn't stop. It looked like any American breakfast chain. They were closing in 40 minutes, we were late to our RV site and stopped anyways. SO WORTH IT. My husband had an omelette, which was falling apart, because it was 80 percent delicious ingredients instead of 80 percent egg, like everyone else's. It came with hollandaise, which he thought was weird, but now he wants to do all the time. I had the stuffed potato pancakes, which were creamy, cheesy, crunchy on the edges and had exactly the right amount of onion in them. The bacon was thick and crisp. Second visit to this amazing restaurant returning on our way back to California from our week at the coast. We were so impressed the first time, we made a point of coming here for a late lunch, and as expected, we were not disappointed! The place was quite busy and had two large parties who had been seated ahead of us; one of the servers came over and told us she wanted to help our server out and take our order if we were ready (so our two little orders wouldn't get prepared behind the large groups' orders)... wow, thank you, Lilywan! And she continued to serve us because Stephanie had the bigger tables and other tables too. Exceptional teamwork, definitely a thumbs up from us! Food was excellent! Fish and chips were delicious, with not too much breading; excellent cole slaw, and my husband's Reuben sandwich was FABULOUS (his words). As we were finishing our meal, Melissa, the house manager we met on our first trip, walked by our table, clearly on her day off -- with her son. (she comes to the restaurant on her day off? Talk about commitment!) She remembered us! Asked about our trip to the coast, wished us a happy anniversary (which we talked about when we were here several days ago at the beginning of our trip!) I have had some bad breakfasts in my 18 years in Grants Pass but this has to be one of the worst. We went to breakfast on 12/2/18 Granted it was crowded but that is no excuse. I ordered chicken fried steak that obviously was pre cooked and frozen and old. The breading was hard and had a gritty texture. The meat was warm and flavorless under a poor attempt at gravy which was luke warm. I ordered eggs over medium that were so under cooked they ran under my bowl of fruit.
