This place has changed hands since the first time I went. The food was really not very good. The corned beef has was so salty, I just couldn't eat it. I suggest they try rinsing the beef before baking it and even better, try boiling it for a couple of hours so it's tender. The pancakes were okay, but nothing to write home about. It was a Saturday it was past lunchtime, and we were still in the middle of moving into our new home, in an area we hadn't explored yet for food options. Oh.. we were hungry. I recalled seeing an interesting shack like structure while heading into Merlin, so I went online, found they have a site, WITH a legible menu. We made our selections and called it all in. The 'Shack' is the RIFFLE CAFE went and picked up our food to go and went home. The dining area was clean and comfortable, and next time we will eat there. The sandwiches were delicious, the food was hot, and it was obviously all homemade. I also brought two glass of their homemade Lemonades. The food at the Riffle is really good. They have great breakfasts. Friendly owner, and staff.

First off if I could give more than 5 stars I would.... This little place is fantastic and the gal that opened up for my engine crew mate and I was super friendly and a real pleasure to meet. We were in Merlin assigned to the the Rum Creek Fire...and I really wish I had seen this place earlier...we were demobed and leaving the fire for a reassignment when we drove by and decided to stop and we couldn't have been happier the food was great ! (I highly recommend the Zane Grey omelet ) it was sooooooo flipping good !!! the atmosphere is Hawaiian eclectic with tons of things to see , and they're dog friendly not to mention totally inclusive which is also a real breath of fresh air. When we were finished with our breakfast we sat patiently waiting for our check..when we were informed that our breakfast was covered... I was honestly humbled and shocked...it was something that I never expected...and we were informed that they had been taking a collection to cover meals for firefighters..I was left speechless and so very thankful...there aren't enough stars to leave for that kind of support...I'm truly humbled and would highly recommend this great place to everyone!!! The Café is a nice place as far as the asthetic, but it seemed unclean and very small. The food was good and cooked very well. As far as the service, however, my waitress was quite rude, and once I got my food, she never came back for drinks or anything. read more

Over priced, foods changed...used to be great, now mediocre at best unfortunately. Used to order the cheeseburger ie best in town - at least it used to be. Barely had a piece of lettuce, small tomato couple of strings from an onion. Husband had a chef salad and they didn't have half of what was supposed to be on it...they said they ran out. Hidden gem! I had the Hellsgate scramble, so FLAVORFUL! The country gravy that's on it is probably the best I've had in a long time. My friend got the very tasty Corned beef hash that's homemade with long chunks of beef (not the canned stuff). Our waitress Jen was so welcoming & amazing. Food is fresh and homemade, I especially go nuts for all the different burgers. Today, I had the Ortega chili burger with grilled onions. And popped out of this world. The patio is very welcoming and the gecko and tropical decor will transplant you for awhile to the tropics. Don't pass up this gem that is close to the 5 interstate. Cool man! At one point the Rifle was great. Now, after several changes to staff and menu, I am not so sure. I loved getting Sourdough Pancakes, but the last time I had them they were burnt. Not a good taste. My husband ordered over easy eggs, which came very undercooked and greasy. We are not sure about returning. read more

Came in for late breakfast and had the worst pan cake, place was so different from a year ago, sausage was so greasy it left a puddle on the plate and was burnt. The flies pestered everyone there. A cold, foggy winter's ride on the Rumble Bee to Merlin found the restaurant with a family and there old, gossipy codgers to which one more was soon added. Later a couple came in with matching MacBooks they used although the restaurant doesn't have wifi. One of the codgers, not me, wondered if they were emailing each other. I ate the blue cheese & mushroom burger on a ciabatta bun with split pea soup. The burger was good but a bit messy so I used knife and folk on the second half. The soup was a liquid with what looked and tasted like bits of franks floating around. Coffee a little better than at most diners. read more

The owner hails from Oakland, CA with a 20-year stop in Hawaii before purchasing this cafe five years ago with her husband. Accidentally ended up here after searching for another off-road dining experience on my latest trip to northern Oregon. What a treat and a delightful surprise. The ingredients are all natural and all homemade, including the bread products for the delicious and mouth-watering hamburgers to the perfectly made grilled tuna half-sandwich/salad combo. I savored every morsel. The mango iced-tea and sweet potato fries were out of this world. Its low-key and laid-back ambiance added to the experience. Not pretentious, not overpriced, and absolutely a MUST stop from here on out. I've spent years in Europe, in large US cities, and in small towns all over America and this is heads and above the very best lunch I've ever had. Great Hawaiian atmosphere. Breakfast served till 5 pm. Right on the road in Merlin. Great burger selection along with a full dinner menu. Glad we stopped in. The owner, Tammy, was very nice and spent some time talking to us about her restaurant. She has owned it for 7 years and prepares everything in the kitchen. All beef is purchased from local ranches and makes everything homemade. I had the mushroom blue cheese bacon burger on ciabatta bread. It was delicious. Had potato salad and a cold Coors Lite. My wife had the regular cheese burger. I was barely able to finish my burger and she took some home. The burgers were fresh and cooked with perfection. Tammy has a nightly special dinner made fresh daily. We'll be heading back this Sunday for the fried chicken dinner. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT. read more
