I ordered a burger and my husband got the spicy chicken sandwich. The burger was pretty good, just a standard smash patty with a potato bun. The fries were pretty good as well. What a great spot in downtown. It's a casual order-at-the-counter kind of place with good seating and great service. There's a cool wood-fired oven for pizza, which was a fun process to watch. I ordered the patty melt, which is something I never order, but I was in a rush to decide & did one of those, "I'll have what he's having" things when my husband ordered his patty melt. We're big seltzer water people, so when we went to order a seltzer and the lady told us it was free and self-serve, I was elated. The food didn't take very long & it was tasty looking! The sandwich was cut in half with smashed burger meat overflowing past the bread. It was glorious. The part of the plate that wasn't dominated by melty goodness was filled with with well-seasoned and crisp homemade fries. I could smell how delicious everything was the moment the moment the plate was set down in front of me. Flavor & texture of all the things exceeded expectations. The patty melt had layers of crispy fried onions that made for a lovely and tasty first-bite surprise, & continued to bring joy with each subsequent bite. Wednesday night. The online reviews were pretty positive. We gave it a try on our getaway trip to Grants Pass. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Honestly, the chicken was really tough (very difficult to cut with the side of my fork--and that was the only utensil) and rather tasteless. There weren't any condiments or even salt and pepper on the table to help it. Maybe a minor thing, but the ice for the complimentary water was in a bin with a scoop laying on top of the cubes. Everyone who used the scoop touched its handle and then put it back on top of the ice. Seriously? After all those precautions during Covid? I'm not paranoid about germs, but that was kind of gross. I've never seen that in a restaurant. Does Grants Pass have a health inspector? Prices weren't terrible, but no bargain either--$32+ for two with just water. After we ordered our food at the counter and paid, service consisted of dropping off our food at our table. No follow up--not even after a 20% tip. I get that the restaurant business is hard, but this was an underwhelming effort at best. Maybe the Haul's pizza is a better food choice, but I'll never know because I'm not going back. read more

Had a great early dinner at The Haul on a weeknight. Definitely beat the crowd as the place got busier and busier before I left. They have indoor and outdoor seating, the inside is very warehouse/industrial-esk vibe that's been all the rage of breweries and gastropubs. Staff was very friendly and helpful in deciding on options to eat and drink. They have a wide variety of food choices from pizza to sandwiches to burgers and greens for the healthy inclined, as well as beers and ciders on tap and a full bar. While they had pizzas flying out of the pizza oven, we opted for sandwiches and beers. The pear seltzer was more like a fruit beer but it was very tasty and easy to drink. The cuban sandwich was amazing. Perfectly pressed and loaded. The pork and ham were tender, tons of pickles and just the right amount of mustard. We really enjoyed the vibe here. It wasn't very busy when we visited. Ordered the queso which I loved tons of chips. I enjoyed the chorizo mixed in there too. Also got the hot honey pizza. It was so so good perfect amount of toppings and crust was perfectly cooked. They have beers and reg bar. I got the art school drop out and it was refreshing and perfectly balanced. We did not finish some of the drinks and they canned them for us. Very cool we deff have seen only one other place that did that ever. So glad we found this place after a day of golf near by. The bartender, Christiana was awesome and answered all our questions then made us a Lemon Drop and Old Fashion. The drinks were perfect! We ordered food to share so it was the Falafel and Mac and Cheese! So good. The falafel came on fresh baked bread and the Mac and cheese was so creamy and yummy! Mikey the chef came out to see how we like it and was so nice. Great job Chef Michael! Great joint! We ate here last night with my parents, and had a great time. My husband and I shared a pizza (hot pepp, yum!) and my dad had, in his words,"the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had." Mind you, my father is EIGHTY YEARS OLD! And we have eaten a lot of Reubens! I ate a quarter of it, and it was pretty terrific. You order at the front and then they bring you your food and that's about the extent of service. You even have to get your own water. Very clean and well decorated establishment. Unfortunately their TV didn't work which was a bummer. I was so hungry, I didn't notice their menus, only saw their "specials" board, and assumed that's all they had. Probably my fault. I orered their buffalo chicken sandwhich with blue cheese dressing and a beer. The service was good - I got checked on a few times but it was pretty empty. Stopped by and had a very pleasant meal of the margherita pizza and taco salad along with a draft of a local lager. Gracious, attentive wait staff. Located in the historic section of Grant Pass in an old brick building showing interior structure that was intriguing to see the old rough cut ceiling joists and the original workmanship. HH and I were passing through Grants Pass on our way to Seattle. We were going to go elsewhere for dinner and then place "A" was closed. Decided to visit the Haul. Took a moment to figure out the drill. Order at the counter and they bring the food and drinks to the table. We ordered Cuban sandwiches and drinks. Drinks came promptly and we waited...and waited...and waited for our food. (I think they were busy, but I also think they forgot us and probably were severely understaffed.) That being said, when they finally brought our sandwiches they were the best Cubanos I have had since I was in Miami 35 years ago. We weren't all that upset about the slow service as we were just enjoying the wonderful playlist (Clash, Cure, etc.). We went to the Haul for the first time last night after an event and the food was very good! Great burgers, fries and a yummy Reuben. The only thing we didn't like was the counter service. It's clunky. I hate counter service. I think it cheapens the restaurant experience. Also, would love more wine by the glass options. I think there was only one white and one red option. Overall, we liked the vibe and the food and would probably come back. But, we would prefer a restaurant with table service. read more
