    Chicken Fried Steak
    Charlie G.

I was in the area, and decided a chicken fried steak sounded good. A quick search showed me Elmers had them, so I stopped in. I was seated quickly, and waited on soon after. Ordered water to drink, since I had already had about 32oz of coffee, lol. Ordered the Chicken fried steak, with over medium eggs and crispy hashbrowns. Chicken fried steak was good, although pretty sure it was from pre-made frozen. Gravy was tasty. Eggs were perfect! Hashbrown... not my favorite, had an odd taste so did not finish. The biscuit was really good, texture and flavor was spot on. My waitperson was friendly, and willing to answer questions about the food, and also about the Eugene area (since I am new here). Really good service.

I ordered my food for pick up. The customer service was a delight. Very nice and welcoming and ensuring i got my food. The atmosphere is nice especially right next door to the hotel. Its like many chain places inside where you can sit and eat. I got the German pancakes, and my goodness I never had them before and loved them. The chicken apple sausage was decent. Overall, decently priced and not bad food.

Plain powdered sugar crepes, just the way I like them.

For being a chain, I do not mind going here when we can't decide on something else. It is not the top of the line place sure, I will have to say it is a step or two above Denny's. They are usually packed when we show up. With this said, we have not ever had much of a wait time, if at all. The service has always been really great, and the food comes out pretty fast. So far everything I have had has been pretty good. German pancake delicious. Crepe's delicious. Breakfast meats, well...just that. Breakfast meats. Nothing to write home about. We ordered pancakes for my 3 yr old Grandson, they came out in the shape of Mickey Mouse. He really loved that. We will be back, not just because of the decent breakfast, but also because the service.

    Looks and tastes good.

It's Elmer's so you know what your getting, nothing memorable, nothing bad. After countless visits I found out that the French Vanilla latte - the one out of the machine - contains no caffeine. It's yummy though, but undoubtedly laden with chemicals. The German pancake can easily be shared, maybe among three people. Our server, Damon R., provided rockstar early morning service!

Went for lunch on my lunch break and thought I'd get a nice lunch so I didn't have to have a big dinner. I ordered chicken fried steak with french fries. When it came out it was a small chicken fried steak, and mashed potatoes and cooked carrots. The mashed potatoes were fake the carrots were taking over half of the plate and there wasn't even a roll with the meal & the price was $20.49. I used to love Elmer's but they have gone so downhill and this is it. They used to have the best chicken strips and they changed those and the ones they offer now are horrible. I swore when they got rid of their good ones I wouldn't come back. Today I tried to give them another chance and they blew it.

I'll start by saying the staff was really nice. Place looked fine, but the food really is a disaster. First they mess up my sister's order. Server let her know and asked if she wanted it anyway. People order food the way the want it so it puts a lot of pressure on a customer to accept something they didn't order when you even bother to ask. She felt pressured and I could tell so I chimed in with no, she wants the correct order please. Just let customer's know the kitchen made a mistake and it will be out shortly. Cold soup was also not impressive, so it had to go back and guess what? Still cold. We kind of laughed at that. Like, just put it back in the microwave for 30 seconds. If you're going to start skimping use smaller plates so it's less obvious. My club sandwich was not a club but still okay. Menu has definitely been pared way down. It's pretty bare bones if I'm being honest and not really what we want. I would suggest another diner in the area. Thankfully I don't live here so I won't be returning. Again, the staff out front were trying.

Great place for a family breakfast! Lots of room lots of options, not the best food in the world by any stretch but consistently good.

Its a classic diner with bar top seating, many booths and open tables within a very small space. Don't be scared away from the waitlist or large families waiting outside the door, they seem to turn tables very quickly so plan for a little bit of a wait, but its worth it. We got lucky and two bar top seats opened up, we waited about 10 min. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who quickly offered us menus and filled our drink order. The menu is quite ample, lots of breakfast options, from scrambles and omelets to many shakes and desserts, if you are looking for lunch they have burgers, sandwiches and wraps. We ordered breakfast, I had the custom option, two eggs, bacon, sausage and added a side english muffin. The food was well cooked, good portion and great tasting. My son ordered a custom, 2 biscuits and gravy with an egg and hash brown, he loved his meal. The pricing was fair. We did not have much of a wait time from the time we ordered to getting our meals. Even though it was busy they did a great job making sure we were taken care of.

However, besides burgers, they also serve a number of breakfast items like pancakes and eggs and so forth. So I decided to go with the breakfast menu and ordered half order of biscuits and gravy and eggs Benedict. I must say both were extremely good and just the food alone I will come back. But the service is very good and attentive and the ambiance has that old time diner feel to it that you don't see too often anymore. Definitely would come back.

We took our time with the menu as there were so many delicious-looking options. We ended up splitting two dishes so we could both have some variety. We did the French toast with a berry compote and ricotta topping and the veggie omelette with hash browns and toast. Every single thing was so good! The eggs were cooked well, the hash browns were crispy, and the French toast was perfectly made. The ricotta and berry compote was also fantastic. We were absolutely stuffed and could not be happier. The bill was also much lower than we expected, so the food is pretty affordable compared to other diners in town. I think they moved into this space recently as I remember another restaurant being here before. That restaurant was much more territorial with their parking spots and had signs everywhere telling people not to park there if they weren't customers, but those signs are gone now which is nice. Everyone here was super friendly and lovely. I love the mission of this restaurant and will definitely be back to continue supporting them in the future!

We decided to try Abilities for breakfast...the homemade cinnamon rolls caught my eye...unfortunately they didn't have any on this day...but I didn't seem to mind. Everything else was so delicious. I usually make everyone order something different so we can share & try many different dishes. It's been 3 months ago so I don't recall everything that was ordered.. I remember the gravy being delicious, chicken fried steak.. sweet cream pancakes, eggs Benedict. All delicious...they also have a bakery...we didn't buy anything but decided to go back again before I headed back to California. Again everything was delicious . I remember my son ordered pastrami and was very pleased. This time we grabbed so baked goods to bring home. I purchased a loaf of sourdough very reasonably priced and a young man offered to have it sliced for me...I also took mom home a muffin & some scones she throughly enjoyed. We were told the owner adopted children with disabilities and wanted to have a place where they could work...this is an amazing woman! She also supports the community with a barrel to place clothes in or donations for less fortunate. I will continue to support this business everytime im in Eugene...look forward to stopping in on my next trip this February!!

The Atmosphere I'll start with the positives: the decor is absolutely awesome. As a discophile, I spent half my time admiring the vinyls lining the walls. The model aircraft suspended from the ceiling and the upside-down table add a unique, cool character to the place that you just don't find elsewhere. Visually, it's a 5-star experience.. The Food & Drink Unfortunately, the meal itself was a different story. The Coffee: I'm a black coffee purist, but this was beyond horrible. It tasted completely "burnt"--to the point where I actually had to add sugar just to make it drinkable. Breakfast Burrito: This was, quite frankly, uneatable. I'm not sure if it was the black beans, the eggs, or something else in the mix, but the flavor was horribly off. Hash Browns: They were completely flavorless and added nothing to the plate. Jalapeños: I'm a huge fan of sauces and peppers, but somehow even the side of jalapeños was bad. On a smaller bright note, the English muffin was good (though it's hard to ruin one of those), and the water tasted great. I honestly can't recommend the water enough, which is a strange thing to say about a diner visit. Final Verdict I cannot recommend this spot for breakfast in good conscience. I hope I get the chance to come back and try their dinner menu to see if it's an improvement, but for now, the great decor just isn't enough to make up for the kitchen's performance.
