We recently worked with Elkstone to finish our basement in north Fountain, Colorado. We are very happy with the results. Pros: 1. The general manager we worked with, Luke Woodside, was exceptionally responsive and cooperative. We looked over the progress nightly and gave feedback regularly. Luke was always happy to work with us and incorporate our feedback. I could not have asked for a better GM. 2. Elkstone gave us discounts twice during the project. Once due to a better price we got on tile, and once due to a plumbing issue they made good on. 3. The salesman/designer we worked with, Chad Jarrell, was efficient and professional. His design only needed minor tweaks to match our preferences. The contract he provided was clear with no major surprises. 4. The overall cost (about $50k for about 750 total square feet) was high, but in-line with all other quotes we got. And the fact that they promised and did finish the project in about 5 weeks is incredible. Cons: 1. As with any contractors, we needed to keep a close eye on the project and give input to make sure everything in the design was met. This is not unique to Elkstone, but they are no exception. 2. There was an issue with the tile contractor needing to be a certain company that I did not like. 3. They said they would estimate the cost of permitting within $20, but they were off by well over $400. Not a huge deal, but annoying. Overall, I recommend Elkstone and would use them again. read more

We were initially satisfied with Elkstone's, but after a couple of years the work began to fail. Trim has pulled away from the walls, doors no longer close properly, and we are now dealing with cracking and buckling in multiple areas. The door jambs were not floated properly (and likely the flooring as well), which appears to be the root cause of these issues. We consulted a reputable contractor, who recommended that we contact Elkstone first before moving forward. That contractor ultimately provided a quote of approximately $25,000 to correct the cracking, buckling, and related structural and finish issues. We contacted Elkstone fully understanding that the work was no longer under warranty, but hoped we could work with them to remedy problems tied to the original workmanship. They told us they do not do handyman work and then stopped returning our calls. They do not stand behind their work, and the workmanship has not held up over time. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Please note that the warranty period is minimal and that Elkstone has refused to inspect the work and issues that we're having. We paid around $46,000 in good faith 10 years ago and Elktone has turned their back on us. Shame on them! read more

We have had nothing but trouble with getting quality work completed in a timely manner. They do not honor their commitments and there have been continued cost increases throughout the project that started in late March and has yet to be completed in late July. This project was originally quoted to be completed in 6 weeks. They even made me pay more for solid core doors only to install hollow doors. I have had to work with subcontractors on my own because they have had a lot of attrition of their PMs, some of which were ineffective at project management. I don't understand what I'm paying this company for when I'm effectively managing the project myself. We were promised white glove service of not having to work with contractors directly and it has not been our experience at all. They have no respect for those that work from home and constantly require last minute contact which has been extremely disruptive to my job. In my vast experience, I have worked with countless contractors across our 3 properties and none of them have been this unprofessional and lack this much integrity. I caution you to stay far away from Elkstone as they have been a complete headache to us for months now. They will leave you with shoddy and sloppy work and will not honor their warranty. They are not to be trusted as they will not fix anything without extreme resistance and a fight. read more

Now that my project is coming to an end there are several things that look funky. I hired Elkstone as I wanted a "designer" to help me with my kitchen design. I'm not happy with how the kitchen layout turned out ( of course the main thing ). Elkstones bid was honestly the highest but I went with them for the services they presented and turn time. We hired Elkstone to finish our 3000 sq ft basement. We were very impressed by their timeline detail, management of trades, and Craig our PM was on top of timelines and getting trades in and out. He kept us apprised of status and gave us ideas on additional work requested. He was definitely a great customer advocate for resolving challenges, explaining the construction process, and provided ideas for additional upgrades. They specialize in basements only and are very good at it. They finished within their originally quoted timing in spite of our upgrades and were very accurate in cost estimates. They offer very good value for the price quoted and were quick to resolve issues. We asked for many upgrades and they excelled. We would recommend them to anyone looking to finish a basement. They have streamlined it to the point where no detail is left undone and they completed it in record time. Our design manager, Keith, was great. He patiently fielded all of our questions and would modify the design on the spot. Our project manager, David Scott, called me every day just to check in to the point where my girlfriend started calling him my "BFF." But seriously, his attention to detail and knowledge about his craft (and the crafts of others) was meticulous bordering on obsessive which was awesome because you knew the job would be done right. After receiving quotes from four other basement finishing companies, we awarded the work to Elkstone Basements to finish our approximately 500-foot unfinished basement. If you don't want to read further than this paragraph, the quality of work, people, and end results exceeded our expectations from start to finish. From the initial design phase to the final touches, Elkstone was professional, demonstrated their expertise in basement finishes, and were always committed to ensuring we were 110% satisfied. It's important to note that Elkstone was not the cheapest contractor, but regardless of completing hundreds of projects annually, they made it seem that our project was at the top of their list even though this project was small compared to others. We started our project with Ben Totems, in Sales and Design. Our layout wasn't optimal, but he had a great eye for practical solutions, and an ability to blend aesthetics with functionality. His turnaround on designs/layouts was incredibly quick and he always overdelivered. We ended up using a creative space optimizing layout designed by him, but he remained open to our ideas and seamlessly incorporated them into the overall plan. Our Project Manager, David Scott, ensured that everything ran like clockwork throughout the entire project. If David said something was going to get done, it got done. We never had any doubt and trusted him completely with all aspects of the project. If we didn't see David daily, we were in constantly kept in the loop through text or call. He found a great balance of keeping us informed without being overbearing and was proactive about any foreseeable changes/issues. David provided awesome recommendations and input throughout the project but never made us feel pressured into an upsell. Our satisfaction was clearly his number one commitment, and he went above and beyond multiple times throughout the project. A contractor noticed a slightly warped beam and brought it to David's attention. He didn't have to, but he informed us of the issue and regardless of it requiring reframing, drywall, tape, and paint, he made sure it was done correctly and fast. Being a Project Manager household, we loved the Elkstone Project Dashboard for visibility over the project timeline, cost, and all documents. There was never any second guessing on who was going to be onsite that day or any surprise costs. Every document throughout the entire project was housed there. All change orders (transactional or not) were done through the dashboard and made every step very clear. Some materials are selected by the homeowner (shower trim, vanity, towel bar, tile, etc.) and we knew exactly what was needed by us and when because of the dashboard. All of the subs were friendly, professional, and did quality work. In the few instances there was a mistake, it was corrected quickly. Throughout the entire project, Elkstone never made us feel guilty about a change or getting even the smallest imperfection corrected. They were extremely flexible with our schedule throughout the holidays and unforeseen personal issues that impacted the timeline. If I had another basement that needed finishing, I'd bypass gathering quotes and go directly with Elkstone. Elkstone did our basement three years ago. Three years later it still looks amazing with zero issues! The whole experience with them was great. They were the only contractor we spoke with that sat down and did a detailed design with us - brainstorming ideas and being open to using products that we picked (a lot of the basement contractors insist that you work with their limited selection of finishes). They put a cast iron claw foot tub in the basement bathroom and did a custom fireplace surround and cabinets. They move quickly (in and out in 5 weeks) so you have to be prepared with your finishes as soon as the work starts. The space was swept clean at the end of each workday. Elkstone just put in a wet bar in our basement and opened up some walls. It started off well. We appreciated the thoroughness of the guys who came to give a quote and the quote was (initially) comparable to others who quoted, and the people we worked with were nice. It went downhill from there. What was supposed to take 6 weeks took 6 MONTHS! Some delays were understandable (workers being sick, running into the holidays) but the majority of the delays seemed to be lack of coordination and communication between Elkstone and the providers they work with. The main reason we hired Elkstone was for the "project management" aspect, and we ended up doing a lot of that ourselves, or correcting the info that was incorrectly communicated to the service providers. One contractor actually said to us "this info should be coming from the project manager. That's the point of a project manager. You shouldn't have to do that." There were so many mistakes along the way that we lucky caught ourselves before it was too late. We had to be vigilant about checking things or they would be done wrong. We were also left with hundreds of dollars of extra lumbar that we prepaid for. Why the estimate was so off for how much lumber we would need, I have no idea. But frustrating to have had to pay for another of their mistakes. We were also told they would clean to "move in ready" but have been finding nails in the carpet and there's a layer of dust from the cement mortar from the stone backsplash coating the floor and shelves. We never got to the point of Elkstone actually building our basement. We found a company with better reviews, a cheaper price, and the same fast timeline. However, the main reason we bailed on Elkstone was the extreme arrogance and condescension of salesman Keith. His first draft layout for our basement completely ignored our request for a large storage area. Instead, he added a play room we never requested. When we asked him to fix this, he acted annoyed and gave us a plan that blocked off the only window that looks out on the backyard from our walkout basement. He also forgot to get a key measurement regarding where to place our bathroom. Instead of apologizing and getting the measurement himself, he tried to pawn off the job on me and acted bothered when I asked for him to make sure things were assessed correctly. From Day 1, he was bragging about how many deals he's made instead of paying attention to the customer in front of him. Snide comments insulting everything from the speed of our internet to our ability to care for the workers coming to our house were nonstop. One day, we spent two hours emailing back and forth to schedule a time to view his proposal and close the deal. Frustrated with the constant emails, I asked him to call me. He emailed back to say his phone was on the charger. Also, that he doesn't work weekends. Two days later, he never called. I get that Keith and Elkstone do a ton of business, but I felt like a cog in his machine. If you don't fit into Keith's schedule or if you don't fit Keith's expectations, you're just a bother to him. Let me be crystal clear. It wasn't scheduling conflicts that ruined our experience. It was Keith's incredibly arrogant, condescending, and passive aggressive nature. Looking to finish your basement? Not sure where to start? Stop now, pick up the phone and call Elkstone. It took us 20 years to finally finish our family basement as an in-law suite. We didn't know where to start in finding a reputable contractor. So, we started the search online, looking at BBB and Yelp for reviews. We met with three companies that had positive reviews and ultimately ended up with Elkstone. We are thrilled we made the decision and our experience exceeded expectations with excellent craftsmanship, especially from project management, millwork and tile. Elkstone was extremely professional from the first call. Pepper answered all my initial questions and scheduled a time to meet with David, our consultant for the project. David was extremely professional, providing us with an in depth overview of the entire process and what we could expect. We appreciated all the ideas David came with and a design that incorporated all our needs and wants. He even took the time to explain the rationale to keep our costs within our budget scope and thoroughly explained the associated costs. He also was willing to make changes to the design based on our personal preferences. There was no comparison with the other two contractors we considered. One family-owned contractor had some great ideas and their initial quote was very enticing. However, after doing our best to compare what we would receive with each quote, Elkstone was on par financially with the other contractors. The greatest areas of differentiation were the professionalism, quality of work and FIVE WEEK timeline. The fact that all the contractors enter and exit through the window wells and not through the house was another benefit in comparing companies. Once we decided on Elkstone, we were assigned a start date and provided with an online calendar. This calendar was key to the project for us. It mapped out what was taking place when. We were also supplied with a comprehensive list of items we needed purchase and design decisions we needed to make. A budget for each of these items was also provided. My only constructive feedback would be to budget more for lighting and fixtures unless you plan on using builder grade items. However, Elkstone connected us with preferred vendors, where we received substantial discounts on major items like flooring, tile, granite, stone, etc. The invoicing process was also very easy with each payment date laid out on the calendar and a final invoice provided within our project management tool. Justin, our project manager, was simply amazing. He was on the project site daily and was prompt to respond when we contacted him. He was also proactive in letting us know if there were any changes to the project timeline. We did request a few changes throughout the process and Justin did an excellent job accommodating our requests while staying on track from a time perspective. He is an excellent communicator and obviously well-versed in construction, providing us with insight and feedback on how our requested changes would impact the design, timeline, etc. The subcontractors respect him as well. Our experience would not have been as positive without Justin. We are grateful. Speaking of the subcontractors, I've never seen or heard of a group that works so well together. Because they work on so many projects with Elkstone, you would think they were owners of the company. They are passionate, detailed oriented and clean. Nothing went unmissed. They all had nothing but positive things to say about Elkstone as well. In the end, we finished a 1200 foot space and left another 25 unfinished for $82k featuring two bedrooms, a full bathroom, laundry room, full kitchen, living and dining room. I would consider this a moderate to high end finish. This cost is inclusive of the upgraded items we selected over and above standard selections such as maple cabinets, level 2 granite, custom built-ins, upgraded carpet, fixtures, lighting and hardware throughout. We are extremely pleased with the results our finished basement/in-law suite, which is now in use by my parents. Not to mention, we finished on-schedule in five weeks. Our friends started their basement a week before us in May and are still working with their contractor to finish by the end of September. This may sound a little strange, but I am now adding a 5 star review almost 8 years after ElkStone completed our basement project. I don't even think Yelp existed back then, and even if it did, I wouldn't have realized the benefit of the platform in helping other people make sound decisions for their project based on reviews. As I now look at doing another project in another home, I've looked at the ElkStone reviews from a more current era and am pleased to see that they are still as highly acclaimed as they were 8 years ago. We had 3200 sq/ft unfinished basement in a home we had just purchased. An total blank canvas. We had just moved to the area and were renting during the purchase. We had only 6 weeks left on our lease and wanted the new home 100% complete before we moved in. We called ElkStone based on the recommendation of another homeowner. We called and they had an expert at our home within a day or two. Wish I could remember the advisors name as well as the project supervisor. They were both amazing. I can honesty say that any member of the company that I had contact with were professional and timely. They were keenly aware of our constrained timeline and it was an all hands on deck process. From the design, to the cost estimation, scheduling, changes, etc, etc. A massive undertaking even under less stringent timing parameters. I'll cut to the chase. The company worked overtime, weekends, nights, you name it. They made it happen. In 5 weeks we moved into a highly customized basement living space consisting of an office, 2 full bedroom suites, pool room, rec room, bar, gym, and home theatre. It is an amazing space, perfect. People still question me when I tell them this perfect space was completed in 5 weeks. All because of the professionalism of the staff, and the systems in place. If you work the schedule they give you on day 1 for supplies and fixtures, then the project will be completed on time. The timing really depends on the buyer being prepared. We met with 3 contractors to quote our basement, save yourself some time and call Elkstone. Our sales person/designer (Glenn) and project manager (Justin) were great from day 1. It takes 5 weeks, start to finish. Excellent craftsmanship & attention to detail. We were specifically worried about tile, trim/baseboard, and paint...it all looks perfect. Their tradesmen were very friendly and respectful. Our experience was great until the end of the project and everything has stalled (I am still waiting on them to finish one month after the proposed completed date). One of the reasons that we chose this company is because of their focus on timeliness and attention to detail however they have failed at these two things over the last two months. I have also had to reach out to my project manager repeatedly since when the project was supposed to be completed to try and get the last parts of the project done. We did not change the proposal or plan at any time so there is no reason that we should not be done. PROS: - Transparent budget - General quality of workmanship - Web application to view calendar, bills, change orders, etc - Flexibility in what you get and how you get it. - Experience of the team seems to be great CONS: - Lack of consistent communication. --- Once they got my 90% it's like I didn't exist anymore --- I also attribute this to over-committing in terms of the number of projects - Project managers are the single point of failure with no suitable backup --- My project manager had to leave town for a week due to emergency. No one told me or attempted to keep things running while he was gone. - Main office does not answer their phones at either number and will not call you back --- There is no way to escalate issues to anyone. If you call either main number and leave a message your project manager will be the one to call you back so you have no means of escalating problems. - Quality of drywall finishing is questionable. --- Mud and tape can be difficult but this company is experienced as are their contractors so they should either make it right on their own or get someone better to do mud / tape. I am deducting three stars from what could have been a five star review because: 1) My project being over one month late 2) Communication has had to be initiated by me consistently. 3) Quality of workmanship of drywall, mud and tape without effort to proactively address these problems. read more

I did not ultimately hire Elkstone, but the limited experience I've had with them was negative. I had a short window of time (10:30am-12:30pm) to get bids for finishing the basement of a house I'm buying next month. I scheduled Keith to come at 11:30 and he explained that his process takes an hour. Keith was more than 15 minutes late and forgot his laser measurer, so it took him much longer to measure the space and our time to discuss the project was cut significantly short. No big deal, we all make mistakes. What really really irked me about the experience was how Keith outright rudely blamed me for poor scheduling. I was apologetic about the limited amount of time, even though he was the one who arrived LATE and UNPREPARED. He said he would call me that afternoon to discuss the project further. Never called. I sent him an email later that day with detailed information about the project. Never responded. Never even sent me the bid. Extremely unprofessional. From my experience working with contractors, I have one piece of advice: Always trust your instincts. Keith's accusatory tone and rude behavior was a big red flag and I am very happy that I did not hire Elkstone. read more

We hired Elkstone to finish our basement here in CPV. It was a moderate-to-high end reno which ended up totaling about 85k for 1250 finished and 250 unfinished square feet; slightly over budget, but exclusively due to us adding additional options and/or changes along the way. We got three estimates from 3 different vendors and all the quotes were within a few thousand so price was not really a differentiator during selection process. We would characterize the final Elkstone product as excellent in terms of initial quality and craftsmanship. Things we really liked: 1) the detail in the initial quote process 2) their flexibility/adaptability throughout the process, and ability to start quickly and finish on-schedule. 3) how they used the storm drain window well egress to go in and out of our house and to transport their materials 4) how the project management process provided frequent updates and opportunities for questions and discussion 5) the hickory-cladded decorative buildout around load-bearing steel post in the middle of the main room 6) the outcome of the arches and custom nooks 7) Fireplace, f/p masonry work and hearth surround -The following (sub)-contractors were excellent: dry wall; millworker; carpet; framing. -The following (sub)-contractors were very good; tiler and painters (*painters quality of work was very good but they lacked professionalism; see comments below) Opportunities for improvement/dissatisfiers: 1) Outcome the the double layered (6 cm) granite slab edge with chiseled finish. -Their granite supplier and fabricators showed us dark granite samples where the 6-cm chiseled edge looked great; however, ours yielded an obviously seam after the installation, even after they came out to manually polish the edge. There should have been more transparency in the process. Specifically, upfront disclosure of how a lighter colored granite would show/manifest a seam much more than a darker color. We also requested to review the slab ( via photos we were supposed to get from the fabricator) prior to them starting because we had selected the slab based on a very specific area we wanted to use; the ball was completely dropped on this and we got the opposite side of the granite. Very disappointing. 2) Elkstone has no existing relationship for subcontracting moving of furniture and/or appliances. We had to hire appliance movers towards the end of the process to move the refrigerators down to the lower level. Moving services would be a helpful option. 3) There were a couple of instances when subcontractors brought their young kids to the worksite on Saturdays. Inappropriate and unsafe. *The painters were also very "loud" on-site (constant blaring music, very loud laughing and actual screaming; it was literally at "party-level"). My husband and I both work from home so this was very distracting. I have no objection to people enjoying their work and listening to music at an acceptable level, but this was excessive and ultimately unacceptable. 4) I noticed some of the subcontractors did not wear the appropriate personal protective equipment while working. -On different occasions I noticed the lack of: Hearing protection, eye protection, and respirators. I am probably more cognizant of this being a physician, but there is definitely opportunity to educate some of their subs on hazard recognition and avoidance. Overall, we would recommend Elkstone but would definitely suggest sourcing/using a few different (sub)-contractors. read more

ElkStone finished our basement in March/April of 2015. The project didn't come without hiccups; however, I think that's to be expected with any home construction project. ElkStone did a great job of resolving any issues we had without difficulty. There's definitely something to be said for great service from begging to end and beyond. Our basement is approximately 900 square feet. We put in an office, guest bedroom, 3/4 bathroom, reading nook with built-in cabinets, a wet bar and theater area with surround sound. It sounds like a lot in a small space but it flows beautifully and doesn't feel like a small space. Our family and friends love it and so do we! read more

I am so happy that I picked Elkstone to finish my basement! The whole process went extremely well. Keith was the one with the eye for design and saw opportunities that I would have missed. Phil was the best and most pleasant Project Manager who kept things exactly on track. All of the subcontractors were pleasant, mannerly, and professional. There was only one time that I had to call to discuss something that wasn't to my approval. One of the subcontractors had arranged to have a porta-potty placed in my driveway. I had specified in early discussions that I did not wish to have that on my property. It was not the fault of Elkstone and they had the mistake taken care of asap. The estimate and budgeted cost was within $100 of the final expenses! The ongoing work was often ahead of schedule even with the holidays. The project was finished in exactly 5 weeks. We used Elkstone in March 2015 to finish our basement and we are very pleased with the results. I delayed writing this review to see if we'd have warranty issues and how Elkstone responded to them. We finished ~1000 sq. ft. and left about 250 unfinished. We spent over 6 months interviewing basement companies, comparing bids apples to apples and designing and redesigning the layout before we chose Elkstone. Finishing a basement costs a lot of money and we wanted to make sure we knew everything before signing a contract with a company. We definitely made the right choice with Elkstone. --Pre-decision Process-- We interviewed several companies and received bids from 3 of them. Elkstone made the design (pre-contract) process easy. They provided detailed proposals, CAD drawings and renderings of the space. Their designer was very responsive and spent a lot of time with us in person and over email prior to us signing the contract to make sure everything was just right. The hardest part of making the decision was comparing the 3 different companies' bids with each other to make sure we were looking at things equally. Some companies bundled customer provided costs (pendant lights, for example) and others separated them out. It was important for me to compare how much each company was budgeting for carpet, granite, tile, cabinets, etc. Elkstone's bid was very clear about what items were customer provided and how much money they factored into the bid for those items. --Process-- The process from start to finish was very easy. They've obviously spent a lot of time tweaking the process and communication between employees and subs to create smooth transitions for customers. Usually when working with contractors, you don't know when they are coming to your house and you don't know when they are going to complete. This is not the case with Elkstone. They handed us a project schedule a few days before they started and the project manager kept the workers on schedule. Then the project manager was at our house every day of the project. He would tell me what to expect for that day and we'd talk about any questions/concerns that I had. I'm glad I was able to meet with them daily because there were a few tweaks we made on the fly such as moving light switches and vent locations. Elkstone also provided a "project list" document at the beginning of the project which outlined exactly what items I needed to buy on my own and when I needed to provide them by. This allowed us to decide on tile, carpet, granite, fixtures and faucets in time without being rushed. All of the contractors in our house were courteous and respectful. The came and went through the basement window and never came into our main living area. --Price-- We received bids from 3 companies and Elkstone's price came in the middle of them. They were all close to each other so the price didn't sway us one way or another. We ultimately chose Elkstone because of the quality of the work we'd seen and the faster completion time. --Overall-- Our experience with Elkstone was better than we expected (honestly). The project management was outstanding, quality is outstanding and most importantly, they are honest people. I never felt that I was being taken advantage of or they were trying to hide something from me. We had 1 "issue" during the project which delayed the overall completion by a few days (the stain on the custom cabinets didn't come out right the first time). You can tell a lot about a company when an issue comes up. They went above and beyond what was needed to rectify the issue. Elkstone is very good at managing the project schedule and "rolling with the punches" as things come up.. It didn't bother me that we were delayed a few days. The project was still completed many weeks ahead of the other companies' timeframes. read more

I hired Elkstone to do a significant construction project on my house. I followed the proper process, architecture, structural and electrical drawings. However after being told for 7 weeks the permits were sitting in the city office I called the city to quickly realize I had been lied too for that period of time. The plans were never submitted. Obviously I could not trust them with my money or the project going forward. Be very cautious if you plan on hiring them and ask for all relevant permits forms as they happen. read more

From the initial design meeting to the punch list walk through at completion, Elkstone constantly impressed and created an air of excitement for the addition to our home that our family would soon enjoy. The design meeting began with a professional approach and progressed to creative ideas and a calming sense that this project would be under control from inception to realization. As soon as framing began, I was impressed! The framers gave us ideas as they were framing and snapping the lines. Very cool experience to be involved in that. The meeting with Boris, the electrician was comfortable and easy. We chose the lighting locations and he gave us some cool recommendations. Throughout the remaining process, Justin, our Project Manager was always available and he answered his phone nearly everytime, even after 6pm and on Sunday!! This impressed my wife and I greatly! When the basement was completed, it exceeded our expectations! The workmanship was terrific and the punchlist completed in a timely manner. It is now an inviting space and we actually use the new spaces every night with our two daughters, either playing in our new play area or watching our new theater! The reality with Elkstone, is the time frame was 5 weeks from Dumpster drop off to completion! This may invoke some fear in your mind, but the quality and price are on par, if not much better than the "other" guys that take anywhere from 8 weeks to 16 weeks!! Having dust and noise and contractors in your home for nearly 16 weeks was not acceptable for our family. Elkstone's business model is amazing. Superior customer service and an impeccable schedule and project management. I have spoken to friends that have used other basement contractors and there are many days/weeks where there is nothing happening and no progress. Elkstone has progress happening everyday! It was fun taking the family down there every night and seeing what new progress happened! I would highly recommend Elkstone! 5 out of 5 and a fantastic experience! read more

We were most impressed with the professionalism, workmanship and customer service provided by Elkstone. The basement finish exceeded our expectations and was within the quoted estimate. The project was supervised by Troy Bryan, who was always available and prompt in his responses. He was on-site for much of the work and was diligent in overseeing all aspects of the job. His attitude was consistently positive. Keith was our sales rep, and did a great job in providing us with accurate estimates, making adjustments as necessary. As the stars indicate....our experience with ElkStone was as good as it gets! My husband and I are recently retired and moved back into our home in Castle Rock. We began the crazy process of finding a contractor to finish our basement. Having been a real estate broker in the Denver market for 20 years I knew we were in for a rocky ride due in part to the crazy, busy market! We spent 3 months attempting to find a licensed contractor who would honor his appointment and actually give us a detailed bid....my friends in the business all wished me "luck". We actually had two licensed contractors suggest that we not even bother with the permit process....one suggested that we put a wood burning fireplace in even though it was against the current building code. 2 of 5 returned calls..... Out of frustration I found Elkstone, Inc. on an internet search. So, I made the call and crossed my fingers. The next day we received a phone call from Elkstone in response to our inquiry and we scheduled an appointment. David, our estimator called us from the highway to let us know that he was stuck in traffic and would be running 10 minutes late...much to our surprise he pulled up within that 10 minute delay. He was very gracious and professional. He looked at our project, measured our basement and took extensive notes. We scheduled another appointment to go over the plan and bid. He arrived on time with his laptop. We were delighted to be able to see our basement in 3D and comfortable with the bid. They were not the cheapest, nor were they the most expensive bid that we had received. But, clearly, Elkstone's was the most detailed (4 bids from 4 companies) during this exhausting process. From the time we signed the contract through the end and subsequent follow ups, we have nothing but praise for this company. Was it flawless? No. Our experience with the building industry, having built three homes from the ground up as well as my real estate background working with builders as a real estate professional representing buyers, prepared us for the multi-faceted process of construction. Elkstone delivered through blizzards and supply issues caused by our decisions (not theirs) and right through Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's Eve! Our Project Manager, Phil was the most even tempered, professional project manager that I have ever met. He was respected by the many vendors he utilized to finish our project. I know, because I asked every one of them....they, without exception, had nothing but the best things to say about the company and Phil specifically. Their finished product far surpassed our expectations....and anyone who knows us as a couple knows that we have very high expectations. Their hand selected vendors were not just perfectionist with their selected crafts, but were gentlemen and ladies in their appearance and demeanor. Elkstone gave us an aggressive written schedule at the beginning of the basement construction and with the exception of the changes that we were guilty of of (and they graciously worked around) adhered to that schedule. We trusted our decision to hire Elkstone and they proved themselves worthy of that trust throughout the entire project.....all the way to a final walk through New Year's Eve afternoon.... Would we go through the construction again? Yes, but only with Elkstone.....we are, without hesitation, giving them our highest recommendation. Bravo! Job well done! I have been working with Elkstone for the last five years. As a subcontractor doing all their flooring. Last year I did over 90 basements with them. being the flooring contractor selling carpet I come in at the end of the project and I am amazed at their speed and quality of workmanship. I work with several other basement finishing contractors and truthfully I see the project is taking much longer with no better quality. Sometimes a good measure of a business isn't when everything goes right but when things go wrong. We had some minor issues with things however Joe at Elkstone got them taken care of. The basement was completed in 4 weeks which is amazing and it looks great. Their interactive website worked real well. I could look at it everyday and know exactly what was happening. When I needed to make a change to the remodel I could do it right on line, even signing online to get the change approval taken care of. Thank you Joe. We're happy. read more

We decided back in October that we wanted to get our basement finished. I began the process by taking estimates. Dave, a consult and designer, showed up at our home exactly at the scheduled time. He was very informative and listened to all the needs and wants that we were hoping for in our new space. Dave promptly came up with several initial designs. He then met with us and made revisions as we talked about the space and thought things over. My wife decided that we wanted to go an entirely different direction with our plan. Dave redesigned the plan and was more than happy to do so for us. Everything followed the 3.5-week calendar provided by Elkstone detailing what would be happening each day on our basement finish. Every person who came into our home was professional and did quality work. Jake, our project manager, was on top of everything. He worked very hard to make sure our changes, questions, and requests were addressed. Jake was honest and truly wanted us to be completely satisfied with our new basement.
