I am extremely disappointed in Elite Tree and would never ever recommend them. Ed, the owner, was extremely rude and unprofessional. My neighbor hired them to cut down 2 trees that bordered our properties and to my dismay, Ed and team used my property as a work station and dumping ground even after I told him several times to get off my property. Last month, I had Elite cut one rogue tree in my garden and prune 2 other trees that needed help. Matt is the person who came to give me an estimate: on time, very professional, knowledgeable, reasonable price. His team came on a rainy day (just my luck, when it hardly ever rains around here!) and cut/disposed of the rogue tree so neatly I would not even have known they had come by, if not for the evidence of the stump. They came back a month later, smack on time as planned, to finish off the pruning that had been interrupted by the rain. Again, that job was done promptly and neatly. A landscaper I know suggested I call Elite Tree Service to come and trim a plum tree and top a very tall ivy hedge in my yard. Elite Tree Service was great. Matt and his team were on time, professional, and cleaned up after they finished their work. As other reviewers mentioned their prices are the best, and fortunately the quality of work was not compromised by their lower price. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because it took a week to hear back from them so I could schedule the appointment. They arrived on time and were precise, professional, fast and when they finished the yard was actually cleaner than before they arrived. :) All this while dealing with a very difficult neighbor who interfers with workers whenever we have work done on our property, Inside or out. These guys did an excellent job. We got several estimates and they beat another company by several thousand dollars. They showed up on time, did the job very quickly and cleaned up perfectly. They did some minor damage to a sprinkler head but were very honest and forthcoming about it. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them. read more

Great service! Matt and his crew arrived on time and trimmed a few trees that were leaning and close to my home. They cleaned up after they were done and provided access for my neighbors during the whole process. After dealing with a guy who was supposed to be the best for a year to get a couple of trees removed, i gave up and called Elite. What a difference. they had someone out the next day to estimate my job, bid less than the other guy and rearranged their schedule so that my trees could be removed before some construction began the following week. these guys were professional and fast. cleaned up when they were finished and a joy to deal with. i cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

I may as well add my voice to the chorus of satisfied customers. What a pleasure it is to find a family-owned business that really knows its stuff. The job was bid by Matt, who works on the job himself, so everything was done to original specifications. When they arrived, they were up in the trees working within about 5 minutes. We had an apple tree removed, a large redwood trimmed, and our old oak tree reduced, as well as some overhanging branches from the neighbor's tree. The crew even looks professional and they wear coveralls with the company's name. It's great having a whole new yard to enjoy. I'll also mention the cleanup. When they left there was hardly a speck of sawdust left behind. I've never hired contractors who didn't leave a mess behind. Don't even think about getting multiple bids. Call these guys! read more

Just had an outstanding experience using Elite. We had a 60+ foot tall tree removed (fortunately before it fell over). It couldn't have gone better. I am nearly speechless (but not so speechless I can't write this review). I called Elite several weeks ago and got an estimate very quickly. They are busy and I got scheduled four weeks later. Worth every moment of the wait! Ed and the crew arrived today at 4:00pm to start a job on three trees. Two nasty, overgrown bottle brush trees and one beautiful 15 foot apple tree in desperate need of TLC. It is 5:36pm and I just paid them. They did an absolutely elegant job on the bottle brushes and the apple is going to flourish next year, I'm sure. And the entire mess is gone...cleaned up to perfection. It was the best money I have spent... The crew of four were kind, considerate and excellent at what they do. I could not be more impressed. I've called on Elite Tree Service to prune trees and remove dead trees and my properties for many years. I was introduced to them by my Mother, a long time Real Estate Broker/Owner in Berkeley, CA. who for years had Ed Jensen take care of all her tree work. A few years ago, when a large Oak Tree plagued with rot had "split" on a property I owned in Montclair and was leaning towards the house, I was lucky enough to see Ed Jensen again in action. Ed (in his late 60's or 70's I believe) scaled up the tree with the greatest of ease and had the tree down to a stump in under an hour. It's my understanding that Matt now runs things and he is terrific. With a quick call I typically hear back from Matt the same day and within a day or two, I have a bid and the work is scheduled. These guys did great work trimming, pruning and shaping about five trees (including a large Oak) and removing several large Italian Cypresses and a dead Magnolia. They were very knowledgeable and concerned about the health of the trees. They made everything look great, and they were very careful and service oriented. It was not an easy job, because I was in the middle of having a pool constructed and large concrete deck poured. They did a great job working around concrete forms that were in place for the concrete pour the next day. I would highly recommend them and will use them every year. read more

My first review was for the promptness and thoroughness of the bid. I've now had three street trees trimmed (beautifully), an acacia pruned per my request, and two cypresses taken out. Matt's bid was competitive, the workers were on time and courteous, and they worked fast. Matt asked if I could wait a week to have the stumps removed as they're very busy, and I said yes. To my surprise, the stumps were removed later that day. Apparently they finished a job earlier than planned and headed over. I can't say enough good things about this company. Agree with most of the reviews regarding professionalism, quality, etc. but my most recent experience on pricing is concerning. Three years ago we had Elite Tree (Ed) give us an estimate for trimming all the trees on our property (large palm, camelias, bottle brush,...) and we approved the estimate. The work (topping, thinning, trimming) was excellent, palm tree especially (pineapple cut, shaped frondball, removal of dead fronds), and the work was done in one day with cleanup/takeaway for a reasonable price. Fast-forward to 2011 and just had Elite Tree back for a quote on the EXACT same property, EXACT same trees, and the quote this time was 150% as much as 4 years ago. They claim the new quote includes more work on the palm (should be less as was a mess 4 years ago and now still has shaped frondball and only a row or two of dead fronds), and there is one additonal trumpet tree (however, they forgot to include a tree in the back corner of property on this estimate that was included on prior work). They also claim that prices a few years ago reflect a down economy and pricing has normalized. Really? Thought late 2007/early 2008 was the peak of the economy or start of the downturn...housing price was much higher back then. Very disappointing (and somewhat insulting) to receive an estimate like this. Did they think I forgot or don't have copies of the estimate/billing/work from last time? Do they review this information before returning to a client with a new quote? Cannot recommend this service considering this huge miss on pricing. By the way, just went to my boss and asked for 150% more salary for doing the same work I did 4 years ago...he wasn't very happy. read more

I engaged Elite Tree service, with my neighbors' agreement, to cut trees on our yard and theirs. When Mr. Jenson arrived he interviewed my neighbors first, never asked me my preferences for how our 60+ year old gingko tree was to be cut and proceeded to dispatch his crew to their tasks. The cut on the gingko was atrocious. It was such a beautiful tree before he got here, now it has holes in the canopy and looks lopsided as he cut the side to my neighbors' house about twice as short as it should have been. When I objected to what they were doing he threatened to just leave, on the spot. They also did not cut branches off redwood trees that I had asked to be cut, and trampled underlying plants in the beds. I cannot say anything good about the experience. read more

I researched a total of three companies including Elite to remove my two Italian Cypress trees and misc tree stumps. They were all very nice, informative and responsive so it was very hard for me to decide who to go with. There were two companies that were around the same price range and the third was at least $300 more so naturally I narrowed it down to the two with the lower price range. With my gut feeling and highly recommended by Yelpers, I went with Elite and sooo glad that I did. Sarah who answers the phone is very professional, courteous and as informative as she can with my questions. Matt gave me an estimate and was also very professional and left me a written estimate. They came about a week or so later after I confirmed I wanted to move forward and the job was done in two days...first the tree cutting and then the grinding. Despite all the questions and clarification needed on my part, Sarah never seemed annoyed. I never thought tree removal would cost me close $850 so I wanted to know exactly what was being done. (Sorry for all the questions. I know nothing about trees and as mentioned, i have been doing a lot of home improvement lately and I have met some shady service people and wanted to be as specific as possible.) Seriously, I work with many companies in my lifetime for personal and professional use and this company is by far one of the most professional, patient, knowledgeable company I ever worked for. These guys are really good at what they do. They removed a 40' tall cedar tree, trimmed some tall trees that were interfering with our power lines, and pruned our tall oak tree (which now looks awesome). I'd like to add to the rave reviews for Elite Tree Service. Sarah and Matt were wonderful and attentive in getting the estimate done and scheduling the service. They were even able to do an estimate via a drive-by evaluation since our juniper was in the front yard. When the crew arrived (right on time) on the scheduled day, they were efficient and communicative about what they were going to do. They worked incredibly well together as a team, and when they were done, they made sure to clean, sweep, and rake up the mess. And they did it all in one hour! Our juniper looks great, and I have confidence that it's going to grow back in a healthy and aesthetically pleasing way. They were wonderful, and I'd gladly recommend them. read more

We recently had them come back again, and are completely happy with the major trimming that was done. They are busy so we had to wait a bit before they could do our job which was removing a very large Monterey Pine which has hanging over our roof quite a bit. The crew was professional and efficient. Left everything very clean. Matt came by to inspect with me a few days later. Gave me advice for a nice replacement tree and even said while he could get and plant the tree for me it would be more economical to have a someone without his high insurance costs to do it instead! read more

Super disappointed with Elite Tree Services. I first contacted Elite mid November to price a tree thinning job at my rented home. I wanted at least 3 large,overgrown, dense Surinam cherry trees trimmed to maximize sunshine in my garden - all with blessings from my landlord. After speaking with Sarah at Elite, Matt gave me a call, I explained the job, and we arranged to meet at my home a week later for an estimate. Matt was refreshingly right on time. Knowing Elite has a $300 minimum, I immediately suggested additional work if the trimming came to less. But I was told not to worry because the job would cost close to, if not more than $300. Matt told me recent storms had kept them pretty busy lately, so he couldn't get to it this week, but they could come out the following week. I worried about taking more time off work, but Matt assured me it was not necessary I be there, and promised the trimming would let in a substantial amount of sunshine. We shook hands, both smiled, and Matt drove off. Since then, I've waited excitedly at first, and then anxiously for the day that never came. I never heard from Sarah,or Matt or anyone else at Elite Tree Service again. Not even a phone call. The lack of professionalism, respect and common courtesy from Elite Tree Service is evident. read more
