I want to give a special shout out to Jeff R. for giving us exceptional customer service today. We…read moreare longtime Sparklight TV customers. We needed to move to new equipment and had some issues, but Jeff resolved everything beautifully. He is incredibly kind, friendly, smart, efficient, knowledgeable, and hardworking. We definitely recommend Sparklight TV!

12 years with Sparklight in Boise - reliability and customer service have fallen off a cliff…read moreI've been a Sparklight (formerly Cable One) internet customer in Boise for about 12 years, and the service has become steadily worse while the prices keep going up. Every six months or so my connection starts randomly dropping - exactly the same pattern, year after year. The connection will work for a few months, then suddenly I can't reliably watch movies or YouTube because the stream constantly pauses, buffers, or disconnects. Most recently, over Christmas the connection became almost unusable. In the middle of the day I watched my modem/router dropping and reconnecting over and over again. I called Sparklight and they scheduled a technician visit for today between 8 a.m. and noon. They called yesterday to confirm, then again this morning to confirm, and then again around 9 a.m. telling me a tech would be there in about 30 minutes, so I took time off work and waited. No one ever showed up. No call, no text, no update. Two hours after the promised time window I called Sparklight. Their automated system kept telling me there were "zero callers in front of you" while I sat on hold for around 30 minutes. When I finally reached a human, I was told that "someone will be out later this afternoon," as if the original appointment and all the confirmations didn't matter and my missed half‑day of work was irrelevant. I pushed back and the agent said he would "call dispatch" and then left me on mute for another 15 minutes with no communication and no resolution. At that point I hung up. There was still no technician, no ETA, no apology, and no offer of a credit even though I lost work time waiting for an appointment they repeatedly confirmed and then simply ignored. This is not a one‑time glitch - this is a pattern I've seen for years: * Recurring service drops every few months that make streaming and basic internet use unreliable. * Support agents who insist "everything looks fine" until the problem magically disappears for a while, only to return again later. * A complete disregard for scheduled appointments and the customer's time, even after multiple confirmations. After 12 years, I'm actively looking at alternatives because I can't depend on Sparklight's reliability or their customer service. If you work from home, stream regularly, or just need consistent internet in Boise, I strongly recommend looking at other options before signing up with Sparklight.

Now known as "Clear" I met two very nice and helpful representatives as they were going door to…read moredoor offering a 2 day free trial of Clear Internet Service. Despite the fact that they blatantly ignored the 'no soliciting' sign on our door, I was interested in what they had to say. I invited them in and introduced my husband. 90 minutes later we were set up for our free TWO day trial (they had trouble getting us set up for some reason and stayed until everything was working). My husband and I have been looking to cut costs and initially I thought Clear was offering a better deal than what we are currently paying Cable One. After reviewing our Cable One bill, I found we are actually paying less with them than we would with Clear, but still I was willing to consider staying with them (I abhor monopolies and would rather not pay Cable one for two services) However two things happened today that have closed the door on that possibility. 1. This afternoon I got a call from a Clear rep wanting to 'set up our new account'. I politely informed her that we were in day one of our TWO day trial and we were still considering keeping the service. She seemed okay with that. *However* 2. When we got home after work. we were blocked from using Clear. I called the ONE number I had been left, the one for the junior associate who was here for the install. An hour and a half ago he said "I need to call my supervisor. I'll get back to you". Fifteen minutes ago I reconnected our Cable One modem, removed Clears' equipment and when I DO hear back from the folks at Clear it will be to tell them to come get their equipment as we are NOT choosing them for our Internet service. So far as I'm concerned they started out strong but failed miserably after we took the bait.

Clear is a good value for home internet, but the local customer service is incompetant, although…read moreeager to please. After a week of dealing with local service, and not getting things setup correctly, I spent an hour on the phone with a call center and got things squared away. The highlights; Phone + Internet for ~$60/mo after taxes (vs. Cable One at ~$95/mo) Acceptable bandwidth, good enough for streaming Netflix, though slower than Cable. Have seen 300-1000kbps, vs. typical 1500kbps with Cable. We are in a more outlying area though that isn't technically in the service area. This is with 4 or 5 bars out of 5 possible signal. I paid $80 for the modem, so as to avoid $5/mo lease charge, and to stay out of any contract. Now, if I want to cancel, no penalty (but have a useless modem, and out the $25 startup fee. My WiFi router and Phone connection is no longer tied to the cable connection in my wall, instead are tied to an acceptable signal location. 2 week cancellation period was enough to get service up and running, including the phone transfer, so it was fairly risk-free, though the phone would have been disruptive if I'd decided against keeping the service. Lowlights... took me too long to figure out to ignore the local rep and go directly to corporate for account help.
