A solid 3 star. Glad I gave this a try since it was recommended.
I placed my order with Elite Dumpling through Yelp right before noon and the ETA for pick up was 12:30-12:45ish. I was notified that our food was ready for pick up right around 12:30 PM, which was great. I was expecting a bit of wait because we placed our order around lunch hour and it was a Saturday, but nope, didn't have to wait.
Note: Elite Dumpling is pretty secluded. It's situated in the same plaza as Harbor Freight Tools, but at the very end of the parking lot, so make sure you turn into the same plaza! Plenty of parking spots in this plaza.
I think they're only currently doing pickups or deliveries. It's a small space inside. There were a couple tables out for customers to pick up their orders. Each order has the receipt and customer name attached so no worries about getting your orders mixed up. Their whole counter is pretty much blocked off with plexiglass, so good on them for keeping this contactless! Hand sanitizers were available on the tables for customers to use as well. It was a quick trip in and out the restaurant.
For my family, I ordered: 1) Scallion Pancake with Egg, 2) Fresh Cilantro Bean Noodle (Spicy), 3) Garlic Black Fungus Salad with Cucumber, 4) Shanghai Soup Dumpling (6 pieces), 5) Pork Dumplings with Green Chives (12 pieces), 6) Lamb Dumplings with Chinese Vegetable (12 pieces), 7) Beijing Style Bean Paste Noodle with Pork.
Review of each item:
- Scallion Pancake with Egg: Taste was unexpected. I was expecting this to be savory, but it turned out to be mildly sweet. The pancake was a bit doughy. I was thinking it would have more of a crispy outer layer, but it might have softened because it was takeout after all.
- Fresh Cilantro Bean Noodle (Spicy): I recommend this appetizer. The bean noodles are firm, but has a chew to it. Spice level was mild and adds just a tad of a kick to it.
- Garlic Black Fungus Salad with Cucumber: If you don't want the Cilantro Bean Noodle as an appetizer, then this would be my second recommendation. They give plenty of Black Fungus and if you've never had Black Fungus before, they're crunchy. The cucumbers add a hint of a refreshing taste to this dish.
- Shanghai Soup Dumplings: Unfortunately, I thought this was underwhelming. For the price point, I guess it's decent, but the skin is thick. Not much soup, and the flavor was a bit lacking.
- Pork Dumplings with Green Chives & Lamb Dumplings with Chinese Vegetables: Between these two types of dumplings, I recommend the Pork Dumplings with Green Chives more. The fragrance of the chives comes through. For both type of dumplings, the skin to filling ratio is good. I would say that if you generally don't favor lamb, the gaminess might not be pleasant to you. For myself, I like lamb, so it doesn't bother me.
- Beijing Style Bean Paste Noodle with Pork: The noodles got stuck together, but it's probably because this is a takeout order. They're pretty generous on the sauce for this one. The tub of sauce is mixed with plenty of ingredients too. I saw some onions, lots of meat, and some green beans. We had enough sauce to mix our noodles with and some leftover as well.
All in all, I'm glad I gave this a try. It's a decent dumpling place close to home. read more
