Cucumber salad, Lao Style
Sandra L.

I really like the menu options. There are so many salads to choose from, which I really appreciate. It's hard to find a place with this many salad options. They also offer sushi, which is a nice bonus. For drinks, my husband and I ordered Thai tea and an avocado smoothie. The Thai tea was good, but that avocado smoothie was amazing!sweet, smooth, creamy, and I fell in love. We ordered the papaya salad Lao style, medium spicy, along with the cucumber salad (made Lao style) and khao poun. The papaya salad was alright. I like mine a bit more sour, and this one was slightly on the saltier side. The cucumber salad was refreshing and perfectly made; I even scooped up the juice! The khao poun was decent but a little bland for my taste. I probably should have asked for some fish sauce, but that's just me. The place is small with limited seating, though there's a table bench outside. I also think the pricing is pretty decent compared to other places. Overall, I enjoyed my meal.

Located at Eden Landing (off Highway 92)

This Thai/Lao spot is truly a hidden gem in the Industrial area of Hayward off Highway 92. Fortunately, it's right off the freeway at the Clawiter/Eden Landing and you can spot it along the freeway. Offering Thai and Lao food with some sushi rolls but I'm here for the Thai/Lao food as I love Nam Khao which is Southeast Asian crispy rice salad (with Lao pork) with plenty of flavor and textures accompanied with peanuts, mint, cilantro and lettuce for wrapping. Royal Lao does a good one with plenty of bold flavors and heat (I asked for medium). The only comment I have for this dish it wasn't crispy (and not due to take out) so no crunch to it at all...no worries...popped into the air fryer and perfect! 4/5 :: Chicken Larb - ground chicken, herbs like mint, lime and fish sauce and chili with some cucumber and salad. - Flavorful and yummy. 4/5 :: Pork skewer (4) - good and juicy but could've been charred a bit to render some of the fat and get some caramelization from the sugars. Accompanied by a tomato-based sauce 3.5/5 Service friendly and efficient. Spoke to the owner, Noi and she mentioned the place has been there a year. Great option for Thai/Lao in the area as not many unless you go to East Oakland (Champa!) and head to Stockton's Angel Cruz Park. Highly recommend stopping by. Place has a few tables for dining (no table service) but set up for take out. Pricing in line with similar spots. I'll definitely return to try other items and for the Nem Khao! Thank you Noi! Note: Best to call or place order online to minimize wait.

Raw Shrimp in Fish Sauce

Randomly came across this spot on Yelp and decided to check it out. It's tucked away in a small shopping center just off Highway 92. I've been searching for a place that serves the Lao/Thai raw shrimp dish ever since I had it in Hong Kong many years ago and was excited to finally find it here. While I wouldn't recommend eating raw shrimp all the time, this dish totally hit the spot. It came with 6-7 pieces of cleaned shrimp, served over shredded red cabbage and carrots, dressed with a mixture of fish sauce and lime juice, and topped with fresh mint leaves, garlic slices, and chili sauce. 5/5 I'm usually a little hesitant to order dishes outside a restaurant's speciality cuisine but I was really craving sushi. So I decided to give theirs a try and glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the lion king roll was. 4.5/5 The space itself is cozy. There are a few tables for dining in, though it's not really set up for large groups. Overall, would recommend giving this place a try. Looks to be woman-owned -- all the more reason to come out and support this small local business! Note: As of June 2025, the prices on their website appear to be outdated, so expect to pay slightly more per item (maybe $1-2 more). Their online ordering system also seems to be down (or at least not mobile-friendly), so it's may be best to call in or order in person.

The lao style papaya and thum salmon were so good! All the flavors were balanced. I feel like it's so rare to see Lao restaurants especially ones with raw seafood. I can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu

Met up with some old coworkers here so we could catch up. It's a super small spot with 3 or so tables. When we first arrived, there was a couple already seated and being served, so it was a little hard to fit a big party. You order at the counter and then wait for the food to come out. It quickly became apparent that there was only one person working the restaurant. We didn't place our order for about 15 minutes because the staff was busy making food for the people who had come in before us. I ended up getting the khao soi, which was a recently added item (wasn't on the menu but there was a picture posted on the wall). My coworkers and I chatted for a long time so it wasn't too bad but the food did take 30+ minutes to come out. And I was fairly disappointed when it did. Despite the color of the soup, it was not very flavorful and most of all, it was lukewarm. The veggies that topped the soup were fresh but the chicken didn't seem as fresh. There was a good amount of chicken and noodles but I wouldn't say it was a good khao soi, based off other ones I've had. I'm not sure if it's usually one person or just an off day. The staff was really nice and I felt bad because she was doing everything by herself but it may be something to look out for before ordering. Hopefully it was just a one time thing though.

Sign says they close at 7 pm on Saturdays. I arrived at 6:10 pm and they were completely dark. No sign explaining why they were closed early or how often this happens. This was my first time here so it was a disappointment that their hours were a lie. I don't care if you want to just open for lunch, but your posted hours should reflect that.

26033 Eden Landing Rd Hayward, CA 94545 Royal Lao takes over the location of Hello Sushi, in Hayward's Eden Landing Plaza. It's menu offers Lao dishes, Sushi, drinks and desserts. I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered: - Dragon Roll, $13.95 - Thai Ice Coffee, $5.00 Okay, this business just opened, and the lady said she had just learned how to make sushi rolls. The rice wasn't tightly packed, and the cucumber was a bit chewy. Other than that, the Dragon Roll was fine. The lady who made it thanked me for my feedback, so she can correct those issues. The Thai Iced Coffee was fine, but lacked enough caffeine to wake me up. The interior offers small tables, and there's some patio tables in a common area. There's off street parking. This plaza is very close to Hwy 92 & Clawiter Road. Signs on the door say they are available on Doordash. Would I return? Yes, I want to try their salads.

Sushi burrito

My sushi burrito tasted sour. The rice was hard. The picture looked like a burrito but what I got looked like a sushi roll. I'll try this place again another day.

One of the best Lao meals I've ever had! I've traveled and tried Lao food in different states, but this place truly tastes homemade. The owner takes her time to cook and serve with such care, making sure every dish is perfect. I've been here several times, and it has never once disappointed.

The lady and I always crave Lao food and found this hidden gem everything we tried was really good. We will definitely be back.

The Lao food was good. Very authentic flavors and good portions. Everything was made to order, so we did have to wait a little. But it was worth it. We were eating with kids, so the owner/chef adjusted the spice level for a few of the dishes.

Occasionally we'd get their papaya salad, Tom Yum soup, or other entrees to share, but I do feel that they don't execute those dishes as well as the basics we frequently return for. I may be critiquing them harder than others on their papaya salad and Nam Khao because my mom does it best (no bias...). However, their portions are large and the flavors are great all around. I think they do some items better than others, but I have yet to be disappointed by any of their food. It's always great to try something new on the menu and be pleasantly surprised. But aside from the food, the customer service and ambiance encourages us to come back every time. They're kind, patient, and attentive all around. Whether we're just picking up food, dining in at peak times or during the quiet hours, they always deliver a great experience. Their dining room is fairly large and they have a softer lighting that compliments that TLC decor well. Through and through, Chai Thai is consistent and reliable.

Between our group, we got Sakoo, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Roll Wraps, Sai Oua (Lao Sausages), Crispy Pork Belly, Pad Kee Mao, and a large side of Sticky Rice. Of the dishes, the Nam Khao was a standout favorite for me. I loved how crispy and crunchy the fried rice was in the dish. There were so many layers of flavors and textures from the fish sauce, the peanuts, and the fermented sour pork. If there's one dish you must order when you stop by here, it's this one. Another dish I really enjoyed was the Sai Oua; I get this dish whenever I see it at restaurants. Although I've had Lao sausages which were very heavy in lemongrass flavor, the ones here did not have the same flavor profile. Instead, the ones here leaned more towards the spicy side. The crispy pork belly was another standout dish for me. If you enjoy Filipino lechon or Cantonese siu yuk, this is another must-order dish. The pork is well seasoned and has the perfect ratio of lean to fatty parts. Overall, I had wonderfully delicious meal. I would certainly recommend coming as a large group so you're able to order a wide variety of dishes. If you're looking for something to really excite your taste buds, head over to Bhan Mae Vane.

Overall, service was good and they checked in on us a few times to make sure all is good. Food: - Nam Khao was fantastic. Crispy rice, the mixed minced vegetables, and the cooked sausage. Together with the lime that you can squeeze to preference, it was delicious! Haven't had Nam Khao this delicious in a while! - Pad See Ew with pork was alright. It was cooked well and a little on the sweeter side rather than savory, but missing the smoky flavor "wok hei" that would take this to the next level that I love. - Fried Sweet Fish was alright too. Fish is fried with a very thin batter but it had black pepper which my kids doesn't want as they're sensitive to anything spicy. The fish had a light fishy taste to it (fresh water fish) which would be better if they even use a little ginger to cut the fishy taste for a better taste. - Guay Tiew is very similar to Pad See Ew with the exception that it had a fried egg on the top and had seafood (shrimp and squid). - Vientiane Crispy Roll is different from regular egg rolls. Made with rice paper roll so it was crispy but also chewy, which is different and may not be what everyone is used to. Will return to try out other dishes.
