We just got in town yesterday and went to the location on South Wabash. Between last night and tonight we tried several different places and some of them were hit or miss and my son was starting to get hangry so I said "do you wanna go back to Elephant & Castle where we know it's gonna be good?" He said yes! So this location was actually the one closest to us this time. Just like the other location we were greeted quickly, the place was rowdy and lively, in a good way. It's the NBA finals so they're packed with jovial people. Of course it's clean. We got our appetizers within 10 minutes and our food came five minutes later. I was stayin at the Central Loop hotel on a Monday night. This cool restaurant is attached to it. I went in and got sat at a table. Decor was cool. I ordered the fish and chips. It took a good while to get my order taken, the waitress was nice but took a while to get checked on at my table haha. Anyway, it was delicious fish and chips. I saw that this place was opened late so my friends and I went to get a quick bite after a night out. It wasn't too busy at 10 PM. Pretzel bites (4/5): These were so salty but in a good way. The bacon and beer cheese dip was hot and thick which paired well with the pretzels. Chicken wings (2/5): We did half buffalo sauce and half honey garlic. It was pretty basic. Definitely just bar food so it wasn't that great. A bit tough. The wee pie flight (3.5/5): This was small portions of each of their 4 signature savory pies. My ranking would be chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie, cheesy leek potato pie, and then the steak and mushroom pie. I expected them to be hotter? The puff pastry was okay. It is a fun way to try all their pies though. If you are just looking to drink and have a snack, probably a good spot. Service was okay. A great spot in the loop for pub food without extravagant loop prices! Elephant & Castle has such a cozy vibe with a wide selection of drinks and food. You can't go wrong meeting up with friends here. It's easily accessible since it's in the loop and there are plenty of ways to get around on public transit as needed. Of course I had to have the fish and chips and a beer. The fish was good quality and not too greasy while the fries hit just the right spot of crispy. Beers were great sized as well. Ale and onion soup $8, I consider myself a French onion soup connoisseur and give 5 out of 10 stars because it lacked a strong beef or onion flavor, but the melted cheese was great. Citrus chicken salad $17 grilled chicken prepared nice tasty peanut based dressing and mandarin oranges. Enjoyed drayght beers, Eliot ness and Smithwick. All staff very pleasant. On the walk back to our hotel one night we happened upon Elephant & Castle and decided to grab dinner and I'm glad we did as it did not disappoint. Party of 3, we grabbed appetizers, entrees, desert and cocktails. Our server was fantastic; checking in on us at perfect intervals and offering recommendations. We started with the pretzel bites and hummus platter. Both were excellent and great sized portions. The only negative I'll say about it is that the cheese sauce for the pretzels was runny but had good flavor. For entrees we had the chicken pot pie and the shephard's pie, which each came with a salad. the portion size was perfect for the pie and the salad was large. For dessert we had the bread pudding and big ben brownie. Both were large portions and very tasty. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cozy, the dining room split by a a fireplace that made it feel intimate and the english decor was charming. The price of everything was very fair and the quickness that our food came out was fantastic as well. We would recommend this restaurant and will return during future stays in Chicago. read more

I remember going down a few steps to get to it off the street. We ended up here for dinner this was not the right location, but the staff was fabulous and I had the best fish and chips I've ever had. We were staying at the hotel next door and stopped in here for a bite after we landed. The bar is awesome. We loved the amount of tvs that were on to watch all the football games. The restaurant is clean. They are open 7am-2am everyday and the kitchen is open late so perfect if you are grabbing a late dinner. The staff were really nice but I will say the service is a tad slow, make sure when you come you have plenty of time. We ate here several times and everything we ate we liked. Why 4 stars? Because it was 4-star comfort (aka drunk) food. --- --- --- For the record, I was not drunk, I was just nursing a 12 hour hangover because I'm old and had 3 drinks the day before. So this still qualifies as a greasy hangover meal for me and it was exactly what I needed. I will admit, I was not excited about patronizing a 3.5 star establishment. I have standards! But future Community Manager, Ines M, berated me and the rest of our group until we complied. I reluctantly walked over as she stood nearby, threatening us both with weapons and promises to sabotage our future marketing emails if we dared to stray away for an alternate dining destination. While waiting in line for the bathroom, she yelled at me again that there were other bathrooms downstairs, and then mouthed the words, "If you even consider sneaking out of here while I'm in the bathroom, you will live to regret it." I mouthed "I have family" and assured her that I was staying put. I arrived to the table and took a look at the menu. Suddenly, I didn't feel like I was only here because of the countless threats. I was actually intrigued with several of the options. But once my eyes were laid upon the "Cheese Toastie" -- a grilled cheese with prosciutto, I realized I was done scanning the menu. I love grilled cheese, I love prosciutto and I love not being sabotaged at work by a spurned colleague. It turns out, the cheese toastie was quite enjoyable. It wasn't at the level of a high-end grilled cheese, but I really dug it and was sad when it was gone. Most importantly, it was like hangover medicine and made me feel much better, so I'll round up from 3-stars to 4 for that alone. The moral of the story here is: when someone threatens you, do exactly what they say and don't get hurt. Especially when prosciutto is involved. (For those concerned, there were no actual threats involved in this experience, only encouraging persuasion.) read more

They have most of the beers you'd expect at a British pub plus some really good local craft beers. They also have wine, cider and spirits. I've been to Elephant & Castle many times over the years. It is one of the few Loop based pubs that are consistently open and has space to eat. They are exceptionally fast on food on what was a busy pre holiday weekend and food was out in almost 15 minutes from ordering . I wasn't wild on the food on what I ordered. In attempt to be healthier I ordered a falafel wrap, which was just a bit bland and unappetizing for me. My wide ordered shepherds pie a classic English pub dish. I came to this neat little pub for a group event. This is a traditional English pub, with a slight soccer theme. They have a huge dining area with a full bar with seating. The bar offers signature cocktails, beer, wine and spirits. They have televisions above the bar that usually has sports, namely soccer. There is limited metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance. The staff there was very friendly and courteous. The pub runs a daily happy hour with beer and sharable discounts. They also have daily specials. They serve burgers, soups, salads, pot pies, sandwiches, wraps, chicken and fish. You will find traditional English dishes such as Shepards pie, bangers and mash, and Yorkshire. I kept it traditional and ordered the fish and chips. It took about 12 minutes for them to have ready and it was a lot of food. It tasted average at best though. All I remember is telling my friends how my meal was and them asking me what did I expect from pub food. The consensus of most everyone at my table about their food. They all got different items from the menu and concluded that their food was "Just ok". I like the pub's vibe. It is is chill spot Their food is reasonably priced, but not that good. If you are at the pub drinking and need a little something to nibble on, i guess it will do. I just would probably find somewhere to eat, if my primary objective was to fill my belly. read more

My three favorite dishes are the Chicken pie, Shepherd's pie and fish and chips. The only negative is it is very loud, I would recommend they do some sound treatments.
