Bad service here from the manager. Was seated almost 10 minutes prior to end of happy hour, and thought, great! I'll order off the happy hour menu. Made my decision, then waited and waited for service. No one came outside to take my order for another 15 minutes. It was not busy. A server actually came to the other table and I flagged him down. I mentioned that I had been waiting and actually several times tried to get someone's attention as I wanted to place my order before happy hour ended. He informed me that he would have to get his manager's approval as the system would not allow him to put in the order 6 minutes past 6:00. First mistake--come on. Give your servers the authority to make silly small decisions like this. I had already been wronged enough having been forgotten, but then to make things a hassle for me makes no sense. A few minutes later the server comes back, literally says nothing but is poised to take my order, which I (correctly) assumed meant that it was no problem. I ordered off the happy hour menu. He asked "just water?" To which I replied "yes." My food was slow to come out, and it was at least 30-40 minutes later as I was literally finishing my meal that the waiter comes back to inform me that they were going to "honor" the happy hour prices--like they are doing me a favor--but that their happy hour requires that I order one drink. I am literally finishing my meal. I don't want a drink at this point. I asked why he didn't tell me that when I ordered 40 minutes ago and he confirmed I was just drinking water? At this point he has to go get his manager again because these servers have no power to do anything, apparently. The manager comes back and decides that he is doubling down on this even though all of these mistakes have been theirs. He actually makes me order a drink. I got a bottled water to go and left with an extremely bad taste in my mouth. They took a bad situation they had created snd just kept making it worse and worse. Manager retraining needed, and give your servers the authority to make decisions. All this for the $3 drink. The manager really seemed like he wanted to stick it to a customer who had been extremely gracious up to that point in spite of their service failures. Disappointing. read more

This place looked promising, and I was in the mood for a good pizza when I walked in. I ordered the "Carnivorous," basically a pepperoni pizza with a bunch of meat like sausage, bacon, and salami. After ordering, the waiter forgot to take my menu, and had to hold it for a good 20-30 minutes until our food came. When I first bit into my pizza, I was disappointed. The salami was not very good, and the ingredients on top didn't really work together. I couldn't even eat more than 2.5 slices, and finished off my meal with a slice of my sister's cheese pizza, which was not very good. Really disappointed with this place. The pizza itself is good. But the service cannot align with their pizza quality. Here is the story, My girlfriend ordered a to-go pizza since we have pretty good pizza there before. However, she waited for 40 mins and finally found her pizza box was still in the kitchen and no one brought it to her. The pizza was ready 20 mins ago. Very good prosciutto and arugula pizza ($13). The crust is just crispy enough without being tough or sharp. Don't be fooled by the "individual pizzas". They're big!! I was starving and could have easily shared one... well, maybe you should share one and get an appetizer too- but they're big for being personal sized. They have root beer (Barq's has bite!) on tap! They do not have ranch :( They have two TVs above the bar that seem out of place to me since it's kind of a classy atmosphere. I must say that this place sure packs an impression. So let's hurry up and get into the knitty gritty stuff. The only thing I didn't like about this place was that it was kind of crowded and the tables are super close to each other (though it wasn't too bad, when you look at Serious Pie). The atmosphere and everything is awesome, with a modern look to the decor. I especially like the elemental chart touch to the menu :) I've tried so many different pizzas here and my favorite would have to be the pesto. That one is really good and by far one of the best pesto pizzas I have had. If you like really thin crispy pizza this is the place for you. Service was not great bordering on getting the feeling we were somehow bothering the host/waiter by coming in. And no, they weren't busy. We stopped here for a late lunch on a recent visit to U village. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the server was super friendly. The pizza is excellent, with a wood-fired crust that is cooked in an open kitchen that is weirdly mesmerizing to watch. (Yes, they toss the dough in the air, like the good old days). I went for the baked potato pie, which is what it sounds like - a stuffed baked potato in pizza form, with bacon bits, sour cream, you name it. I was worried that it would be a misfire, but the server assured me it was "decadent", and she was right. I ended up taking half of it home - it was rich and filling and the crust was perfectly charred. My daughter had spaghetti and meatballs, which isn't actually on the menu, but it's available if you ask. The meatballs were massive and nicely seasoned with fennel, which I liked, but she wasn't crazy for. It was a good sized portion for the price and quality. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in U Village, for the price, quality, and overall atmosphere. A win. read more

Wood fired pizza with a geek chic Chemistry theme right in the middle of U Village...I think I hear all the UW kids running over from Bagley Hall! I was very excited to see gluten free pizza and pasta options on the menu. I love GF pizza dough, as it is usually a little bit chewier but also with a slightly softer texture. With my lil crew of fellow Amazon wives, we ordered the caprese salad and broccolini appetizer to share and then each ordered an individual pizza. The broccolini was disappointing, with just 5 thin stalks at $6. Is there an element on the periodic table called Wth? The caprese salad had a delicious balsamic dressing, but the salad was literally smothered in it. It was a little frugal with its cherry tomato halves and tiny mozzarella crumbles. And basil, where ya at?? I ordered The Fun Guy, which had garlic, fontina, pecorino, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes on a gluten free crust. Not surprisingly, they charge $3 extra for GF, which was hefty since the pizza was already $14. However, the pizza was actually very good. The dough is not as chewy or mochi-like as I have come to expect from other gf dough from places like Zpizza or Dominoes (mmhmm, that's right...I LOVE Dominoes!), but it was light and didn't make me feel like I was missing out on a regular wheat flour pizza dough. I loved the combo of toppings as well--garlicky, salty from the cheese, and a burst of juicy sweetness from the tomatoes with earthy mushrooms to round it all out. More, please....just without the heavy price tag for a 6-slice individual pizza. If I spend $17 on a pizza, there better be some Au sprinkled on it. Last but not least, our waitress was attentive, fast, and sweet. I wish I got her name so that I could give her due credit, but she never rushed us when we were waiting for our friend to show up, and she kept checking back with us consistently. Thank you, mystery girl!! Overall, I am glad we got to try Elemental, but I probably won't return anytime soon. read more

Note to new restaurants that utilize "deals" (in this case, Travelzoo): unless the customer is clearly in violation of the "fine print" (e.g., Friday or Saturday), don't go "check with the manager" to see if the voucher can be used because it says "two diners" and we had (God forbid!) two adults AND two children. We had already placed our drink order (beer and pop), so we clearly were not the "coupon and tap water" type. This made for a very awkward situation. (We were finally approved to continue with our vouch-paid meal. Whew!) Another awkward situation was when our 15 year old teen daughter was given pizza dough on a plate and a glass of water with a lid on it. (Dude, where are her crayons?) How many 20-something servers can't tell a 15 year old from a 10 year old (the age cut-off on their kids' menu)? Enough about my voucher experience. I found the restaurant too bright for an evening meal. Service was anxious and somewhat distant. Pizza, for the price, was lacking compared to Tutta Bella and Via Tribunali. The large salad (clearly an appetizer for us) was served without a serving fork or tongs. On the bright side, our water was filled in a timely manner. My favorite part about this place is how welcoming the staff is. I'm always greeted when I walk in the door by at least two people (even the guy throwing dough--multitasking at its finest) and although it can get quite busy for dinner, you can tell they do their best to get you sat as quickly as possible. My regular order here is actually not the pizza, but the roasted veggie sandwich. Ask for a side of the Dijon dressing and marinara sauce to dip it in...totally worth the extra 50 cents. This place is not only kid friendly (pizza + dough to play with = winning), but they have a killer happy hour for adults. I recommend the Stromboli and a cider because the flavors combine perfectly and that is some serious bang for buck. All in all, a great option in University Village. read more

My first time eating wood-fired pizza, or maybe in the Seattle area. Went with my family and we all split the following dishes: - Roasted broccolini: It's the texture and not necessarily the flavor of this side that indicates that it's roasted. That being said, I still enjoyed it and am thankful it wasn't drowned in garlic or salt or whatever other restaurants deem acceptable nowadays to do to their roasted vegetables. - Beet salad: Got a small, thinking that I'd eat it by myself as a side. Turns out that everyone liked it too much to give that up. Kind of wishing that the beets, as thinly sliced as they were, weren't stuck together in clumps. - Truffled Mushroom: A bit oily for my liking, but the cheese isn't overwhelming on this pizza as it is on the other ones. - Green Goddess: If only there was a bit more pesto on this pizza, then it'd be perfect. If you are a die-hard vegetarian and love the taste of vegetables (and the texture, and everything) more than pizza itself, then go for this dish. - BBQ Pulled Pork: What every "BBQ pizza" at every chain restaurant aspires to be, but they're smart enough not to ruin it by piling ham or pineapple on top. The combination of their in-house BBQ sauce, roasted pork, mozzarella, etc. gives this pizza a memorable smokiness. In any case, I'm not the biggest fan of pizza, but I can see myself returning here for the more veggie-friendly options. read more

I came here once for brunch and was floored by how good the pizzas were. Granted it's not deep dish, Chicago-style, or even New York-style pizza, that's not what they purport to make. These pizzas are created with only fresh ingredients and cheese that is of the highest quality. While some of the prices for a weekend brunch might seem a bit expensive, it is worth every bite. If you're a student and really shouldn't be spending your lunch money in U-Village, they offer a weekday lunch special of a pizza, salad, and drink for $10. Not too shabby. I swear, I don't ONLY like this place because it's science-themed; I'm not that big of a nerd. I also like it because it's a new alternative to the other restaurants at the U-Village that have been around for so long that they no longer seem fresh. I mean, one can only have Boom Noodle so many times in a row. But the space itself is nice, with big bright windows and cool decoration touches. The bar area looks like a good place to hang out, too. Service was good even though it was a busy lunch hour, and our food came out fast. Three of us shared a large caesar salad and two pies, which was a perfect amount. (Only 2 pieces left over). We had the roasted veggie pie--eggplant, peppers, zucchini, etc--and the pesto something or other with pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, and potatoes. This was one of the rare restaurant experiences that I've walked away from feeling disappointed. Let me state that I have only been here once and this may have been an isolated experience. My night started out okay. The restaurant was full, but the hostess informed me that we could sit at the bar area. We sat immediately, but had to take our own menus. Weird, but i'll go with that. It then took about 15 minutes before someone came to ask if we were being helped. Not a good start. Meanwhile I observed 3 other tables/parties seated and helped, including two people sitting right next to me, before our server arrived. What made it more strange was once our server came and asked if we were okay I mentioned that we knew what we wanted and were ready to order. He then proceeded to say "Okay! Let me get you some water." and then walked away for another 10-15 minutes. Food was okay, but the overall organization and attentiveness of the staff needs work. We were in Seattle for a college visit and were craving a good pizza. In the University Village Mall, there's this place and another that's known for their Chicago-style pizza. We chose Elemental mainly because of our mood at the time. The restaurant is comfortable with a nice casual atmosphere. The first time we went, the restaurant was almost full though not particularly noisy. We ordered a Four-Cheese and a lunch special with the Marguerita and Caesar salad. All were great, but we especially enjoyed the salad. So much, that we went back the next day =) This time we just got a large Caesar, which had a fresh, smooth flavor, and the Sausage, Kale & Potato soup which was fine (just a little spicy for my taste). They only had two choices of soup so it would have been nice to have more of a selection. I probably would have gave them 5 stars if they had 3-4 choices of soup. Nevertheless, we had a good experience here and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely be back next time we're in the area. read more

I was so not in the mood to eat, but we walked in to Elemental Pizza and had a FABULOUS chopped salad and a wonderfully tasty potato and rosemary pizza. The salad was huge and properly dressed in a wonderful salad dressing. The chucks of salami and cheese were big enough to enjoy yet the right size for your mouth. The pizza crust was divine. Crunchy and crispy, yet so flavorful!! The men at the pizza bar took a lot of pride in their pizzas from the crust, to the cheeses and the homemade pesto, even sharing a few secrets! We will DEFINITELY go back, in fact, I may have to go today to get a chopped salad to go, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!! read more

Good, thin crust pizza. My family used to go to Fondi nearby and were bummed when it closed. Elemental Pizza is cut from the same mold. Same sort of thin crust pizza, same sort of family friendly atmosphere. They even have the flat screen TV in the corner with basketball playing. (I don't actually like the TV in the corner, but it illustrates the similarity.) I had the Prosciutto and Arugula pizza. It was yummy, though I kind of wish it had the balsamic vinegar drizzle like they did at Fondi. My wife had the Pesto pizza. She became an immediate fan and wants to go back. I got one piece of the Pesto pizza and tend to agree. We also had a caesar salad. It was good, but seemed a little like caesar made with mayonnaise. Because I'm forced to be gluten-free, I really wanted to love this place. But it drew a solid meh. Elemental, here's some feedback. 1. You are slow. The very same pizza that takes 10 minutes at Tutte Bella took 30 minutes, and that was when there was no one in there. When the waitress finally brought it, she apologized and said that gluten-free crust takes longer. Maybe so, but a warning before we ordered would have been nice. We might have gotten an appetizer. 2. You are not so delicious. After many reviews on the gluten free crust, I was left underwhelmed. It had no wood fire flavor - in fact, it had no flavor at all. There was a sweetish quality to it that I just...didn't like. 3. Your use of ipods is off putting. I get that it's a cool way of ordering. But it makes it seem like the staff is texting. outstanding! I stopped in for luch after running errands with our two year old, and can't begin to express how perfect it was. I requested the counter with the view of the pizza making process, and the very nice host and server brought a tiny bucket with pizza dough for him to pay/practice with while we watched. We ordered one pizza to share which was perfect (and despite the busy lunch hour delivered quickly) and was the best of four different kinds of pizza I'm somewhat embarrassed to say we've had in the past few weeks (which were from well rated places, by the way). The crust was perfect- thin but chewy and really tasty (my to year old even loved it, and he doesn't do crusts) and the toppings were fresh and really delicious. I wasn't hungry enough for a salad, but they looked great on the menu (and other people's tables!) The decor is inviting and lets in lots of light. The only thing I didn't like were the TVs mounted on both sides of the restaurant, but I'm probably the only one in Seattle who cares and at least they are modestly sized and we couldn't hear them. I used to love this place, since food is good. But it's not family friendly, so since I have a baby I've been not welcomed here. With a newborn, they recommended to leave the stroller (with my baby on it) on the other side of the fence in their patio. Insulting. Recently I tried again, this time to have lunch inside the restaurante. They recommended to put my baby (she is still pretty young) in a high chair. Very enjoyable! Great service, nice ambiance and the Green Goddess pizza was delicious. (The rocket salad and Caesar were good as well.) Highlight though was the home-made ice cream sandwich. You could choose your cookie type and gelato. Had oatmeal coconut cookie with Nutella gelato and was not disappointed. I've only been five times, and I wish I could could say more. I usually sit in the bar. The ambiance is great and the bartender is awesome; he's always friendly and very helpful if your feeling a bit indecisive. I have been here for Happy Hour twice and the bartender (apparently there is only one) is just blatantly rude. He is slow, brash, and makes me never want to go back. We had a really bad experience just happed today. I took my whole family coming here this Friday night and we ordered some pizza and Mac& Cheese for my kids. Actually after we arrived at home, my four years old son could not stop crying and complained about severe stomachache. Me and my wife also felt nausea and very uncomfortable. My son ended up with vomiting everything out on our bed. You probably could not imagine how much undigested Mac and cheese on the bed and how they smelled. I am not sure what kind of cheese they used to cook the pizza and other dishes. But I am pretty sure it happened just right after we had dinner together here. Omg!! This place is Outstanding!! We had the pepperoni pizza and the maple bacon wedge salad. My husband and I split both. The crust of the pizza was perfection. Not a bad place, especially for family and kids. Wait time can be long, and the food is not so amazing that I would be willing to wait in line. However, you can grab seats at the bar if everyone's over 21 and you will find the same food and friendly service. I had the meatball sandwich and thought it was delish. This is one of our go-to restaurants in U Village. I love that they have artisan pizza and they actually offer non-diary cheese (I think it's Daiya). The atmosphere is a little loud and they are often crowded, but we have never had a problem getting a table for 2 or even for 4. One time, however, we arrived at like 6pm and they told us they were all out of pizza for the night! Huh? How does that happen? A pizza place with no pizza? Apparently, they got slammed by a huge group and all the night's pizza dough got used early. Other than that experience, we have only had good experiences here. My only complaint is that the prices seem a bit high... about $15-16 on average for a 14-inch pizza pie... add an extra $2 for the Daiya, and you're looking at a very pricey pizza. Elemental Pizza hits all the right notes and considering they just opened they are way ahead of the curve. So happy to see a legit wood fired pizza joint in the village! I have been in twice and both experiences more than exceeded my expectations. So far I have tried about 1/3 of the menu and I must say I appreciate they keep it focused and not try and offer a gazzilion choices. These are the items I have tried so far. I would recommend them all. Fire Roasted Broccolini: Simple, delicious and fast! It will be cool to see what other small plates they can produce out of those ovens. Antipasto Plate: Nice selection of artisan cheeses, Zoe's spicy salumi(killer!), generous portion of proscuitto, housemade breadsticks, all good quality Fresh Burrata: Buttery and creamy goodness:) Beet Salad: The dressing made the salad here. Nice balance of acid and sweet to compliment the radicchio/arugula, and the blue cheese was soft and rm temp as it should be. yum. Rocket House Salad: Arugula was super fresh, not over dressed and seasoned just right. Again, simple and executed perfectly. Caesar: As it is so typical, the most important question would be, is theirs worthy to order again. Answer is yes. Nice bite in the dressing with round flavor and fresh, still warm croutons. Now to the Pies: Margherita: Like a Caesar, you better get this right. And they did. Right amount of char on edges of crust, balanced sauce, creamy mozz, bright basil, drizzle of olive oil and salt. Justice served. Yukon Gold: This pie had a particularly nice aroma when it hit the table. Wafts of rosemary and pecorino went well with the my pint of Manny's. Crimini and Friends: Fantastic!!!! The Elemental: Great blend of spicy coppa, kale and smoked mozz. Simple olive oil base and fresh tomatoes made this probably my favorite of all. Service both times was attentive, well educated and best of all sincere(no cheese). Clearly the employees seem excited to be there and well aware they have an opportunity to be busy all the time.
