Robert helped me with my subpanel upgrade and EV charger installation. The whole process was easy, fast, professional and pleasant! I have a 33 years old subpanel (with no space left) in the garage and I wanted to install an outlet for my EV, after Robert checked out the job site, he made suggestions and provided me with a great quote. I turned down other contractors and decided to go with Robert right after our appointment because of his professionalism and the great quote. The job was finished on a separate appointment, took a few hours and the result was amazing! I couldn't be more satisfied and I've already recommended Robert to sevaral friends of mine, you won't go wrong with Robert. read more

Great Electrician. Honest. Professional. I plan on hiring Chen anytime I need electrical work on my Oakland home.

Really appreciate how quickly and easily Robert and I were able to schedule his visit. And he fit me in the next morning! In addition to resolving my breaker problem, I learned a lot from him in the process too. His price was quite reasonable. We discussed some additional projects I'm interested in and he provided very valuable guidance/recommendations about what I can do first on my own (to save money and reduce risk) to make sure the additional work can be done safely (ie. figuring out in advance what may be in the walls). I'm glad to have a friendly and skilled electrician to work with now and highly recommended him! read more

We needed to add power points on the walls beside the toilet bowls for all 4 of our restrooms, so we can install toilet seat warmers. We searched Yelp and contacted Chen after reading the great reviews. Chen was very responsive and promptly arranged to come do a free assessment and quote. We liked that he was very punctual and was professional and speedy in making the assessment. A week later, we arranged for him to come by on a saturday and this time both he and his wife showed up. She help answer phone calls while he was working, hand him tools and cleaned up the area after he was done. Very humble, down to earth and hardworking couple. My wife was initially apprehensive not knowing what the finished job will look like (our house is just 2years old). But i am glad we are both absolutely pleased, in fact impressed, with the end results. Very neat and works well. I would recommend Chen and hire him again if i have other wiring or installments needed done. read more

I bought a Chargepoint Home Flex EV charger. After doing research on how to install it, as an electrical engineer, I realized that this is not a straight forward job without the right tools and professional experience. Then I decided to get help from electrician. Electric Chen was not on the top of the searching result on Yelp or Google search but with limited information and reviews from the other customers (most of the review are written in 2022), I thought there was a good chance that Electric Chen should provide quality service as competitors and with reasonable price. Then I contacted him and he asked me a few questions such as where the main/sub panel located and where the EV charger I would like to install. I also sent photos since that can provide more visible information than verbal expression. He respected my preference and explained to me the pros and cons. Eventually, I decided to install the NEMA 14-50 outlet/plug for my EV charger instead of hardwired since that provides more flexibility in case of the charger hardware has issues and need to be replaced in future. Fortunately, he was able to get the work done on the same day night. Robert also brought all the necessary tools and hardwares with him in a single trip. I was really surprised that he can finish the work in such high efficiency without compromise of the quality. Nice job, Robert! Really appreciate it! I will definitely recommend Electric Chen to anyone who I know. read more

We really appreciate Robert's great work solving our chronic GFCI outlet issue on the spot! We had one of GFCI outlets kept tripping and shut off all the downstream outlets for months. Two electricians prior to him were not able to identify the root cause. Robert thoroughly checked the upstreaming and downstream circuitry. He was able to pinpoint a faulty outlet with loose connection causing the constant shortage and fix it right away. It was straightforward to communicate with Robert. His schedule is busy but flexible. The cost was quite reasonable. Robert will be our future go-to person for all electrical works. read more
