One of my favorite restaurants in Austin hands down. Whenever I have people visiting I always suggest this place for their delicious enchiladas! My go to is the chicken verde enchiladas with mashed potatoes and rice as the sides. I always get the salsa flight as well and have eaten here quite a few times and it has never disappointed. One thing to note is the wait can get very long and you must be there in person to put your name down so on days where you really can't wait, I would highly recommend ordering to go -it's just as delicious. They have specials on certain days and one of them being birria tacos on Wednesdays! Definitely need to stop by to try that out. Amazing! Found this place when searching for tacos . I've passed this place so many times but never noticed. Extremely busy when arriving around 6:30pm Wait was 1 hour for 1 person table. Thankfully was able to get a seat at the bar after 20 mins of waiting. Order chips, salsa, and 1 beef taco and 1 chicken taco, white rice black beans You can taste everything was made fresh. Was a little disappointed since I asked for no pico but it still was on the taco. Didn't eat the white rice as it had cilantro which taste like soap to me. The beans were good. The tacos were also good after I picked out the pico on top. Shell broke pretty easily so taco became nachos. Service was pretty good and attentive. Most likely will try the enchiladas when return. Has a variety of items on the menu. Place was pretty clean, didn't use restroom so can't speak about that. Everyone seemed to be happy and enjoying the food. This restaurant is overrated. I've been here for breakfast and dinner and it's really nothing special. The wait is very long due to the popularity and hype. The salsa sampler is a neat idea and a great way to get to know what salsas you might prefer. The restaurant focuses on the difference in heat between them, but I found all lacking flavor. All the food we tried was just okay. Absolutely nothing, even their most popular entrees, stood out to us or made us want to return. Boom! Y'all gotta swing by this gem if ya haven't already! First timer at El Dorado Cafe. I was impressed to see that they had a flight of chips and salsa you can purchase. If you're a connoisseur of all things spicy like me, this was an awesome surprise! Of course we ordered that and enjoyed the salsa experience. They have a mild-fresh red salsa, a green avocado based mild and an orangeish- smoky creamy style that was an amazing medium. The second verse was much hotter but had a lot of cilantro which I love. Then a Doña style- creamy jalapeno salsa followed by what seems like the same one but added habaneros. Regardless, the flight was delish! I ordered the chalupa with chorizo and beans topped with the freshest veggies and a crema. I also ordered a fried chicken taco with bacon. WHAT?!! Holy crap! That chicken taco was delicious!! My wife ordered the special of the day which happened to be the chicken Chile Relleno with charro beans and calabacita! She was in heaven! All food was super delicious and the the staff was extra friendly! Joel, the owner even popped by to check in on us and chatted for a while. A friend came to visit Austin, and one of the places we checked out was here. We went on a Saturday night, late - around 7:45pm, and they were still busy. We probably waited 45min to an hour, but the time went by quickly. We sat in their outdoor seating area and ordered some salsa, queso dip, and a mocktail.. and everything was delicious. I think they're known for their salsa spread, but we were in love with their queso dip. Honestly, after munching on the tortilla Chips and getting a refill, we were starting to get full. So, by the time we got seated, we ended up ordering one enchilada plate (their portions are huge) and we still had leftovers (about half leftover) that we ended up taking to go. Their enchilada was good - we ordered their Rene's Awesome Enchiladas. Even though we were full, we still ordered dessert, because why not? There are few meals that I think about randomly and crave for because I enjoyed it so much, and the El dorado burrito with beef is one of them. I stopped by on a whim before running errands and I was seriously stunned with how delicious the burrito was. The beef was packed full of flavor and moisture, cooked perfectly and blending well with the flavors of queso and salsa. The crispy potatoes were a great texture that was satisfying to bite through. I was not expecting to scarf down my entire plate - the portion sizes are awesome and you'll likely have leftovers - but wow that was one of the best burritos I've ever had. Chips and all the salsas were such a lovely start. I wanted to try just a little of the spiciest and they gladly obliged! We went on a Saturday at 12:30, there was a wait but they have outside seating for those were awaiting and they bring you chips and salsa and drinks and didn't really feel like a wait. Once your table is ready, you just move inside with your stuff and whatever you ordered previously is added to your tab so no having to settle up twice, which I love! We tried: margarita (rating 5/5), cold brew/horchata (5/5), avocado salsa (6/5), roasted tomato medium salsa (5/5), chilaquiles w verde salsa (the best verde salsa I've ever had), barbacoa taco (on point), taco supreme (4/5) it is a better version of taco bell taco supreme, and Kathy Valentine taco (4/5) it was delicious but could use more poblano pepper. The service both inside and out was perfect- took time to make suggestions as it was our first time there. Really felt welcomed by the staff. So much yum! This was our first visit, but definitely not our last. We popped in for lunch on a Saturday and expected a long wait from reading other reviews. We put our name on the list and were told it would be 50-55 minutes, but it was only about 40 minutes. Not terrible at all, we had time to grab some drinks at the bar and start reading the menu. We ordered the Salsa Sampler which was a great way to try them all. They make all their salsas in house. We also tried the house queso and loved it, and we split the Joel's plate which was more than enough for the 2 of us. Everything was super fresh and tasted great. Service was wonderful. I'm very impressed with the options on their menu from a substantial kid's menu to gluten free options to vegan dishes , so everyone can enjoy this place. I know why they are so highly rated. Their food is incredible! I put us in the waitlist 2 weeks ago so I would highly recommend doing the same to the time that you want. I want to go back and try some of their other dishes! They range from 15-20 dollars. The mole enchiladas is good. Is has notes of chocolate so that's something to be aware of. Drove up from San Antonio for lunch. Yeah, you heard that right. I drove up for lunch. I heard many good things and I wanted to try for myself. Mole enchiladas were great, they do mole right. Chips great, salsa great. So overall the food was worth the try. Service well. Lol. I am assuming the poor Austinite was still learning his public skills. Over all he was fine. It's a departure from what you see as Mexican food in South Texas. I am going out on a ledge here and saying this is Mexico City reflecting. If your in the area and hungry go give them a try. Despite battling traffic and arriving just 14 minutes late, we were rudely turned away at the door. The staff member didn't offer a waitlist or any alternative--just a dismissive attitude. I called the next morning to speak with a manager - ended up in a converstation with an unprofessional and defensive child, unable to explain or hear anything. Pitiful! After driving by this spot for nearly 8 years, I have finally had stopped in. We showed up on a Friday around 11:30, and just nearly beat the crowd. By the time we left, the place was packed with a wait. Bar seating is first come first serve which is nice though. If it's your first time (like it was for us), you need to order the salsa sampler. I promise, you won't be disappointed. I made sure to try each and every one multiple times before coming to the conclusion that, the best is not even a close fight, Salsa X for the win (waitress confirmed that it is the crowd favorite as well). For the main course, I went a bit out of the ordinary and got the Uchingon Bowl. So happy I did as well, the pork was perfectly crispy, the rice and other ingredients were filled with flavor, and it was more than enough to bring some home. Do not come here for migas! People love this place. It just won "Best Enchiladas" in the Austin Chronicle poll. So I'm in a minority, but I have to base this review on my own experience. I was craving migas, so I came here for breakfast and ordered the migas plate. It was not good at all! The migas themselves were covered with a layer of cheese, and there were hardly any tortilla chips in them! They were more like an unfolded two-egg omelet. And they came with way too much starch on the side -- refried beans, potato hash, and tortillas. The refried beans were dull and bland in the absence of any melted cheese or sour cream to go with them. The potato hash wasn't as good as hash browns. And as migas are supposed to have tortilla chips in them, who on earth serves them with tortillas?!? My server was pleasant, the prices were reasonable, and the parking was easy, so three stars it is. read more

Hump day wins with Rene's Awesome Enchiladas (stuffed with ridiculously delicious short ribs) + margarita with a tajin rim. Their complementary chips and salsa is also great with robust crispy chips with a choice of 5 different salsas depending on hotness preference. The Wednesday special of quesa-birria is also a delicious choice, but be prepared for an afternoon siesta. Logistics: Cute location, chill servers, and the bonus of no need to parallel park. It's not a huge restaurant so definitely recommend reservations for dinner. It also fills up pretty fast for even a weekday lunch. I've been dreaming about Eldorado Cafe since I last visited on Cinco de Mayo. I was so confused when I called to ask if there was space for noon because they told me that day had been booked completely for a month now. The guy on the phone was so nice and told me how to get a seat faster. I was so touched by how patient he was. We came around noon and waited maybe about an hour? My friends and I ordered some margaritas while we waited and they were delicious. Not super strong, but they got me tipsy really quickly! I love how they have a lot of salsas for us to try, and we told our waiter that we like spicy but not too spicy. He picked a salsa that we were obsessed with. I'm not sure which one it was, but it looked more cream based than tomato based. It was a light orange color. Our table ordered queso and guacamole, and everything was so delicious. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned, and the queso consistency was on point! Eldorado Cafe was hitting the mark with every single item. Finally, the food came out. Oh. My. God. I was in love. I'm a really big enchilada fan and could eat enchiladas every week if I could. The sauce was amazing. The texture of the enchilada was fabulous. I got chicken, and it wasn't dry. It was actually pretty flavorful and juicy. Our waiter also checked in on us a lot despite how busy the restaurant was. 10/10 stars for me. I am coming back again tonight and I can't wait. I personally don't eat much chips, it's none to very less, and wait for the main dish, but here is a tip, in eldorarado, I'd suggest eat the chips, as there entrees don't fill your tummy:) Enchilada suizas: sauce has a very sharp sourness and it's overwhelming and you don't taste anything else other than sour taste, it's 2 or 3 tiny enchiladas, rice and beans that came with it was good. Shaunna wanna taco salad: in description it says so much, but all we got was very little lettuce mix with sour cream, avocados and chicken, not even some black beans in it, but the grilled chicken was very good, but way too skimpy for the price, taco shell was good too, light and crisp. Kids cheese enchiladas: my kid asked if he can get a chicken enchiladas and our server said yes but dint mention the $2 up charge and we don't mind paying, but it's a single, literally finger sized ( length wise, 2 fingers width wise) enchiladas filled with cheese and chicken, I don't think they had used even a single nugget sized chicken in it, and it was drenched with too much cheese, my kid who like cheese, couldn't eat that much:( Overall, personally I always prefer quality over quantity, but at the same time, there entrees whatever we ordered were $14 + tips and taxes, for that price I expect I should feel full, not stuffed nor leftovers to take home, just full. read more

We relied on Yelp reviews and tried Eldorado for a late lunch today. We arrived about 2:00 pm and the restaurant was packed! I had the pork carnitas and they were perfect. Husband had chicken enchiladas and he was impressed. The owner came by and asked how the meal was. He was fantastic and even suggested other ideas for us to try in that we are from out of state.
