So much yum! This was our first visit, but definitely not our last. We popped in for lunch on a Saturday and expected a long wait from reading other reviews. We put our name on the list and were told it would be 50-55 minutes, but it was only about 40 minutes. Not terrible at all, we had time to grab some drinks at the bar and start reading the menu. We ordered the Salsa Sampler which was a great way to try them all. They make all their salsas in house. We also tried the house queso and loved it, and we split the Joel's plate which was more than enough for the 2 of us. Everything was super fresh and tasted great. Service was wonderful. I'm very impressed with the options on their menu from a substantial kid's menu to gluten free options to vegan dishes , so everyone can enjoy this place. Drove up from San Antonio for lunch. Yeah, you heard that right. I drove up for lunch. I heard many good things and I wanted to try for myself. Mole enchiladas were great, they do mole right. Chips great, salsa great. So overall the food was worth the try. Service well. Lol. I am assuming the poor Austinite was still learning his public skills. Over all he was fine. It's a departure from what you see as Mexican food in South Texas. I am going out on a ledge here and saying this is Mexico City reflecting. If your in the area and hungry go give them a try. After driving by this spot for nearly 8 years, I have finally had stopped in. We showed up on a Friday around 11:30, and just nearly beat the crowd. By the time we left, the place was packed with a wait. Bar seating is first come first serve which is nice though. If it's your first time (like it was for us), you need to order the salsa sampler. I promise, you won't be disappointed. I made sure to try each and every one multiple times before coming to the conclusion that, the best is not even a close fight, Salsa X for the win (waitress confirmed that it is the crowd favorite as well). For the main course, I went a bit out of the ordinary and got the Uchingon Bowl. So happy I did as well, the pork was perfectly crispy, the rice and other ingredients were filled with flavor, and it was more than enough to bring some home. I'd been waiting to come here for a long time and was very excited to finally make it. The salsas were tasty and the mole was delicious. But, I'd ordered a top shelf margarita made with a resposado. Not only did it finally make it to the table AFTER the food had been served, it literally tasted like lime juice. I know I'd picked a top shelf and it said from $11 and up, but, when I found it cost $14 and hadn't even tasted like a margarita i was relatively disappointed. Their complementary chips and salsa is also great with robust crispy chips with a choice of 5 different salsas depending on hotness preference. The Wednesday special of quesa-birria is also a delicious choice, but be prepared for an afternoon siesta. Logistics: Cute location, chill servers, and the bonus of no need to parallel park. It's not a huge restaurant so definitely recommend reservations for dinner. It also fills up pretty fast for even a weekday lunch. I've been dreaming about Eldorado Cafe since I last visited on Cinco de Mayo. I was so confused when I called to ask if there was space for noon because they told me that day had been booked completely for a month now. The guy on the phone was so nice and told me how to get a seat faster. I was so touched by how patient he was. We came around noon and waited maybe about an hour? My friends and I ordered some margaritas while we waited and they were delicious. Not super strong, but they got me tipsy really quickly! I love how they have a lot of salsas for us to try, and we told our waiter that we like spicy but not too spicy. He picked a salsa that we were obsessed with. I'm not sure which one it was, but it looked more cream based than tomato based. It was a light orange color. Our table ordered queso and guacamole, and everything was so delicious. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned, and the queso consistency was on point! Eldorado Cafe was hitting the mark with every single item. Finally, the food came out. Oh. My. God. I was in love. I'm a really big enchilada fan and could eat enchiladas every week if I could. The sauce was amazing. The texture of the enchilada was fabulous. I got chicken, and it wasn't dry. It was actually pretty flavorful and juicy. Our waiter also checked in on us a lot despite how busy the restaurant was. 10/10 stars for me. I am coming back again tonight and I can't wait. Our family were on spring break and were looking for good Mexican food. My husband found Eldorado. The owner, Joel, was a very nice gentleman. We asked him for a good Bar-b-cue place. He provided us with a list, plus hats and tee-shirts!! Everyplace listed was a hit!!! The food at Eldorado's was incredible!!!!! My granddaughter generally eats like a bird...not on this day! She ordered the chicken burrito. It was epic! She ate it all!!! The enchiladas were great too! I ordered the street tacos, pork shoulder marinated in pineapple and other spices. I thought it was going to be spicy hot. To my surprise it wasn't...very delicious!!! Everything from service, customer service, cleanliness and food deserves 10s across the board!!! I tried the breakfast tacos today, buying some for my team at work. I can say that they went down a treat amongst the coworkers! We went somewhat basic, potato, bacon and carnitas. They did not disappoint. Even the potato one was good, it was a bit of a hash. I will definitely have to come back for dinner or lunch sometime and try something else from the menu. This place has been on my bookmarks list for awhile. My boyfriend and I tried to eat here months ago, but the wait was beyond our limit. The other day, we decided to go for lunch and now, I predict we will be regulars. The food is just outstanding. We both love Mexican food and really fresh, innovative Mexican food is a double draw. There were so many options on the menu that called to us, but in the end, we both went for bowls. I had the Uchingon and he had the taco bowl with picadillo. The uchingon has comfort food written all over it. Starting with cheesy rice, layered with roasted veggies, pickled onions and topped with crispy pork carnitas and ripe avocado. It was so good! The taco bowl was super filling and tasty (the bite I had, anyway). I also had the virgin Paloma made with a Serrano simple syrup and fresh juice. I can't wait to go back and have a boozy one! I was blown away with the hospitality, even if our server was slightly less than awesome, but the team makes the place and we didn't go without, just a delay in getting the check. First time here. Food was tasty and hot. Place decorated nicely. Really liked all 3 of their salsas. Also appreciate they stay open late. We got there at 8:45p, had about a 25m wait for a 4 top, and the restaurant stayed busy the whole time we were there. The down side was our server. Perhaps Joaquin shouldn't be in this line of work, where you have to interact with customers. Probably the worst service I've experienced in several years. While food came fast, overall service was super slow. In addition, the server forgot just about everything we requested and we became frustrated instead of enjoying the meal. First he forgot my wife's cocktail twice (so she cancel it), then I had to ask for a straw 3 times. Instead of an apology, he mumbled that I never asked for a straw. It was bizarre. We all just sat there laughing because he had clearly confirmed he heard me on the first requests, and again when my wife reminded him that he had not yet brought the item. We also asked for a drink refill which he forgot, and finally he left us waiting for the check for 10m. We still provided a nice tip, in case the servers share. But, owners need to evaluate whether Joaquin was just having an off day, or he needs some help/training. Will return, and just make sure we don't get this same waiter-then perhaps adjust my rating for this place. read more

You'll see some things on the menu they don't have other places, some that you know, but a little bit different, and some that are pretty much the same, just better. Chips and salsa: chips were warm, salsa was good, the orange one, light green is there spicy one, other than spicy ness it doesn't have any other flavors. I personally don't eat much chips, it's none to very less, and wait for the main dish, but here is a tip, in eldorarado, I'd suggest eat the chips, as there entrees don't fill your tummy:) Enchilada suizas: sauce has a very sharp sourness and it's overwhelming and you don't taste anything else other than sour taste, it's 2 or 3 tiny enchiladas, rice and beans that came with it was good. Shaunna wanna taco salad: in description it says so much, but all we got was very little lettuce mix with sour cream, avocados and chicken, not even some black beans in it, but the grilled chicken was very good, but way too skimpy for the price, taco shell was good too, light and crisp. Kids cheese enchiladas: my kid asked if he can get a chicken enchiladas and our server said yes but dint mention the $2 up charge and we don't mind paying, but it's a single, literally finger sized ( length wise, 2 fingers width wise) enchiladas filled with cheese and chicken, I don't think they had used even a single nugget sized chicken in it, and it was drenched with too much cheese, my kid who like cheese, couldn't eat that much:( Overall, personally I always prefer quality over quantity, but at the same time, there entrees whatever we ordered were $14 + tips and taxes, for that price I expect I should feel full, not stuffed nor leftovers to take home, just full. read more

It's such a busy restaurant, so make sure to make a reservation beforehand. It has fun vibes, but if you prefer quite, calm places, this might not for you. El Dorado has existed in north Austin for the past 4 years off the intersection of W Anderson ln @ Shoal Creek (right off the mopac exit). This place gets so busy it is online reservations except for the few walkups accepted, so be advised. Consider Eldorado a upscale fusion style Mexican food place. They have typical items such as enchiladas, different tacos, quesadillas and tostadas. This place excels in their specialty dishes. The Carnitas Cubanos is my favorite, also the shiny ribs, papas rellenos and many others. You are going to sit looking at the menu a solid 5min before you are able to come with a decision. They have a variety of 5 different salsa you can order along with queso or guacamole. They even serve flan or mini donuts for dessert if you are still hungry. Margaritas are strong and they have a very cool bar drink menu. They also have an awesome weekend brunch menu. The service is very friendly and on top of everything. The restaurant only has roughly 15 tables, but does well with the space provided. You will likely see Joel walking around who pretty much runs the place, such a friendly person to meet with. This place is always packed because it is so good, so like I said, make a reservation. If you want unique tasting Mexican food to try out, then this place is your winner. read more

One of our friends suggested that we go to this place when another friend came in from out of town. I'm not gonna lie, when I pulled up I wasn't sure about it. The outside of the restaurant looks pretty normal. However, once I tried the food I changed my mind. I really enjoyed the food here and would definitely come again. It is a great place to take anyone because they do have options for omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. They also have many gluten free options too. My favorite thing about this place is that almost anything can be made vegetarian because they have the option to add either cheese or mushrooms instead of meat. Apparently Hongos means mushrooms and its an option all over the menu for your choice of filling. I ended up getting the veganchilada. It was SO good and flavorful. Some places do not know how to make vegan food with flavor but this place does! I chose the enchilada with both green and red sauce. I liked the green sauce a little better. Honestly, I would come here again and again because there are so many other vegetarian things that I can try. I would definitely recommend this place to others. Everything I've tried is incredible: perfectly seasoned and sauced and the ingredients always taste fresh. I usually get the Supa Chupa, which has crispy carnitas, avocado, and a tasty spicy sauce. Great food and service. They have a new all vegan menu with some legit good options. I love it when places take the time to show which dishes are vegetarian / vegan. Drinks are great, my one feedback would be to add frozen margaritas to the mix. They only offer margs on the rocks, which are good, but sometimes you want that frozen style. As others have said, the salsa sampler is where's it's at. The Too Hot To Tot Taco is really unique. It's tater tots and queso on a taco...food of legends! Gracie's Tostada, El Guaco Taco, anything with hongos (mushrooms) you really can't go wrong. ohhhhhhhhhhh man. you've gotta get the uchingon bowl ($14). it's a rice-based bowl with all the good stuff your mom wished you ate more of growing up - squash, avocado, onions - but it's also CHEESY RICE and has carnitas and guac and pico. it's damn good. i got it based off the waiter's recommendation and i have NO REGERTS! also tried the tater tot bowl ($13) and thought it was pretty dang tasty as well. kind of hard to justify the price for the amount you get (and also the fact that you're an ostensibly mature and well-adjusted adult eating a bowl of tater tots), but it's nice for sure. read more

This place met my expectations for a good place to enjoy a meal. I found their Mole Chicken Enchiladas just like the ones I grew up with. The Mole was excellent, better than any I have found here. This can be said to be true of most of their menu items given the opinions of the rest of my family. Make a reservation. Even 2 pm lunch was a 30 minute wait.
