Dive bars are awesome. If I can get a Miller High Life Pony for $1.75 and a 16oz Lone Star for $4 flat, there is no place I'd rather be then here. I showed up for a pop-up show with Shane Gillis and Marcus King that was incredible. That's not most people's experiences here, but that was mine, I'll share what will be consistent between your visit and mine. The staff is awesome. The beers are ridiculously cheap for Austin. It's a great space to hang out and drink. There's darts, there's pool, there's a patio, there's sometimes live music (though probably not Marcus King) and there's plenty of room. Did you know before The Aristocrat Lounge there was the Poodle Dog Lounge? One and the same. This is the epitome of an Austin dive with all the things you know and love about this type of bar. Cheap(er) drinks, live music (one of my friends and his band play here often, always a good time), yummy frozens, and activities. Activities, you ask? I haven't been here in DECADES! I feel like it is more spacious inside than when it was the Poodle Dog Lounge. There is a good size bar, some booths, three pool tables, and one (yes literally) one toilet. I find that odd, and inconvenient if you just need to...well, ya know. Anyway, the service was slightly surly as one would expect at a dive bar. It was quiet enough to have a conversation, so that was appreciated. I've never been so disappointed in an establishment as I was today (and this is actually my 1st negative review). My girlfriend, who has worked in the service industry for 40 years, and I stopped in looking forward to enjoying a drink. From the moment we walked in, we felt completely ignored. The bartender never acknowledged us and continued cutting fruit without even making eye contact. After waiting, my girlfriend politely walked over to ask if we could order a drink. Instead of a simple greeting or apology for the wait, we were met with an attitude. When the bartender finally came over, she was rude and actually said, "You can leave." So that's exactly what we did. Austin has so many fantastic bars with friendly, welcoming staff who understand that hospitality matters. Unfortunately, this was one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had in an old-school lounge. We came in excited to support a local business, but we left feeling completely unwelcome. We won't be back, and I hope management takes customer service more seriously because no guest should ever be treated this way read more

I'm freaking late getting onto the Aristocrat Lounge train but damn, super impressed. Not just an über cool dive but their list of frozen cocktails on tap and cocktails on tap is super impressive. How impressive? Let me tell you - went car window shopping one early afternoon at Roger Beasley Mazda Central and stopped by here after. Mind you, when we got here it was 1:30. Six hours, two rescheduled and eventually cancelled dinner reservations later, were were still here. Why? Their freaking frozen carajillos that's why. We've had carajillos before, hot and iced, but never frozen. These frozen ones sucked us right in and it was hard not to keep ordering them. They were like a godddam milkshake I tell you. Go check them out for that reason alone. Stupendous idea of theirs. While you're there, might as well try their other drinks on tap: palomas and old fashioneds. read more

The overall environment isn't a classic well kept dive bar. You have rude bartenders who don't know how to make drinks, poor service and disgusting bathrooms. It's grimy, unkempt and lacks the spirit of what was the Poodle Dog Lounge. You're better off at Lalas, Night Owl or Buddy's Bar - all right up the road. read more

This bar is what you'd expect in Austin, with its eclectic decor, jukebox music and pool tables to pass the time. The bartenders at first I thought were weary of new faces but quickly warmed up as we were served. We went at low key time for a quick drink. Yesterday was a hard day due to losing a pet. My training partner from my gym said we were going out for the evening to help me try to get out of my head for a few hours. We ended up at the Aristocrat lounge. While dealing with my loss, we played shuffleboard, ate food from the local food truck, drank too many tito's and sodas, and played horrible music on the jukebox. Overall this was a cool little dive bar. Not tons of parking, but there is more than enough compared to other places. The prices were okay for Austin. read more

Adding on to the many complaints about the bearded bartender... I was "cut off" after ordering one beer. I felt like I was being punished for chatting with other patrons and having a pleasant time with my friends. General merriment appears to not be allowed. The bartender then proceeded to cut off the other members of my group, also after having one beer. Playing pool seems to be a red flag for being over-served. At one point, someone in a different party asked the bartender to turn up the music a little bit, and after I mentioned the sound was nice on the other side of the bar (several groups were having fun dancing and enjoying themselves), he turned it down for everyone so you could barely hear it at all. That group soon left the bar. Unless you're looking for one drink with a side of disdain, I'd go somewhere else. read more

Came here just to echo the fact that the bearded bartender is weird, rude, and basically thinks anyone who wants to drink is a "red flag" Truly a bizarre attitude for someone who chooses to bartend for a living. I'm on business to the area and a buddy took me to this dive bar. First night was amazing tattoo glasses chickadee was on point, friendly and very on top of helping and being very attentive. Night two we were greeted by this bearded over weight god complex man. After ordering my first drink and requesting a second he judged me saying and I quote "Red Flag!" I'm sorry... I'm double the age of every patron in the bar, first drink of the evening and I'm being profiled and judged!? His attitude was rank, personality was garbage, unless you were a regular he doesn't give a F! Take this into consideration and make changes. I'll never visit this establishment again. Needed a little holiday pick me up so my friend decided we should drop in. The place is cozy, smallish and the noise level was low. No windows and that's alright. They have Old Fashions on tap and they are the best drinks. The bartender was super nice and friendly. I love this place and look forward to making it my regular spot. read more

Man I really wanna like this place, I really really do. Sometimes you get nice bartenders but most of the time they seriously act like your existence is literally what's driving them to the farthest depth of hell on earth, especially the guy bartenders and door men. Like I get it, this is Austin, and I expect a surly bartender generally at some places and I'm not asking for someone to know my birthday at the end of the visit, but it's a service industry at the end of the day. Straight up, if you hate it, there's probably a ton of other jobs in this city you can do otherwise. Or otherwise, if you wanna be a service industry bar that's fine but, bruh, stop trying to project it's more than it is on social media. You seriously can't pull the "We welcome everyone of every color, gender and experience" while simultaneously having people work there who actively show they hate everyone or pretend that they're worn out from making drinks when most everything including mixed drinks is on draft. Overall the bar IS cool once you get your drinks, besides the pool table being right on the dart board and the super awkward bathroom that puts you right in the middle of sharp objects. A quaint neighborhood bar that offers reasonably priced drinks. Make sure you bring your ID since they check everyone in your group. It was busy on a Friday night, but we found a seat. There is seating outside in front and in the rear as well as inside. There is a food truck located at the front door. However, I don't know the hours. Stop by and enjoy! read more

What can I say? A lot! I have given this bar/ people who run it/ a handful of opportunities to redeem the insecurities that pour thru their non existent human like veins... it sucks! First off.. the amount of encounters I've had to endure throughout the years, listening to him, put me down and make my family members feel down as well, as well as many friends of mine ... I wish the owner would understand that he is allowing his employees to run this bar as if they are above the social laws.. but yet they are cowards. They are acting the opposite of how we are supposed to be thinking we are supposed to be treated at a friendly bar in Austin. Yet, he allows it... and there are no consequences. That's it. I've been here 4-5 times and I can finally say I'll never go back. I kept trying because I love dive bars and this one certainly qualifies. But the unfriendliness of the bartender is too much to take. He always seems incredibly annoyed by me and my brothers asking for a drink. He never greets us or says common things like "be right with you" when we stand there unattended for a long time. Finally, he takes his bad attitude to the next level in his obsession with seeing our IDs. Listen, I get it, TABC is a tough org. You don't want to get on their bad side. And if the rule is to show our IDs, no argument from me. But we are three men well into our 50's. The bartender (always same guy, from the other comments I think his name is Miguel) consistently finds some way to make this process super painful. Someone's id is expired by a few days and he gives a lecture on how he can't serve them any more drinks. He makes us show the IDs multiple times. He makes everyone come up to the bar to give our IDs (having someone else bring them from a table 15 feet away is not enough). Etc., etc. It is always something with him and the IDs. I see Miguel be friendly with people who seem to be regulars but this just makes it worse. It makes it seem like they don't want business from outsiders. Maybe that is projection on my part but I'm past caring. I'm out. read more

One of the coolest spots to kick it sy. They have nice bartenders and a cool jukebox. Dark dive bar vibe. If that's your thing and it is. This is not a sports bar. They'll put on the game if you ask but it's a spot you go to drink, play some pool, listen to music and enjoy your friends. Been coming here since maybe 2018 and it's like an extended family. Folks remember your name. Remember your drink. It can get crowded especially on Friday or weekends but for the most part it's a place you can go without feeling claustrophobic or having to yell over the music to talk to your friends. There's also a patio that's chill and comfortable and usually a food truck that serves decent food. As well as other options for food that are nearby and walkable. Been coming here for a couple years and have had the same negative experiences with Miguel as all the other negative reviewers. But it honestly became kind of funny to me and I gave up politely waiting for him to acknowledge me. Instead opting to interrupt whatever long winded conversation he was having at the end of the bar. Often this actually ended in even worse service somehow but it was either that or be ignored for literally 15 minutes when I was the only person standing at the bar trying to order. But he's getting more aggressive. Rather than be visibly annoyed and purposely slow he's getting verbally aggressive in response to asking for a beer and even giving threatening body language. So in the end I guess he gets what he wants. He's pushed it far enough that I won't come back. read more

I've only been to the Aristocrat Lounge twice now but both times I've been - I've thoroughly enjoyed it! I realized during my second visit that this bar is pretty roomy with tons of places to sit and chat. It also has lots of things to do, pool, darts, pop out to the food truck...or you can get captivated by the awesomely random and terrible movies that are playing on the many TVs they have. I'm a huge movie nerd so I got caught up in trying to figure out what some of the movies were and thankfully my date was a nerd like me so we had a blast trying to figure out characters and movies. My nerdiness aside, the drinks that the wonderful bartender was cranking out, were on point and not overpriced like so many other bars. The crowd was varied but everyone was nice and laidback...just enjoying the atmosphere as I was. I hope to make it back there again soon! read more

The staff at the bar are very chill and friendly. The seasonal hot toddies are divine! Most bars in NW Austin have generic tunes, but they have a great jukebox. My friends have been visiting the Aristocrat since they opened and have never had a poor experience. This is my favorite place to take people to! read more

I've heard of this place for years now, and we always wrote it off for some reason. The location? The appearance? Whatever the case, we were so wrong!! We stopped in for drinks on a Saturday evening and left highly impressed. No, it's not the fanciest, the classiest, or the best smelling place, BUT the drinks are AMAZING, the inside is relaxed, the staff is great, and there are several games to keep the whole crew entertained. They had a great selection of draft beers, and even had a few house cocktails on tap. The drinks we had were made with such care, and served the way they should be, in appropriate glasses, which may bars do not take the time to do. We will certainly be back, and I highly recommend The Aristocrat Lounge to everyone, it's worth a stop! read more

We really had an awful, almost disturbing experience here last night. Bartender Miguel has always kind of been rude, and a little dismissive. He very much makes you feel like you are not someone he ever wants to talk to and makes you feel almost guilty for ordering drinks because he is so bothered all of the time. I have always felt like I annoyed him every time I have come in, and you can tell who he likes by the service they receive. A lot of people just take it for what it it is, because it's "edgy" and definitely plays into the dive bar vibe the Aristocrat is know for. My friend and I were sitting at the left far end of the bar and he was primarily gravitating towards the other end of the bar where he seemed to be more familiar with the patrons. I smiled at him, I waved, tipped an empty drink, trying to get his attention and was either flat out ignored or he just didn't have any time for a solid 30 minutes. The Bar back Mike (AN EMPLOYEE) was making out with a DRUNK customer over the bar and then disappeared to make out behind the red curtain to left of the bar. I am guessing why Miguel was running around doing everything (I have video if the owner is interested, and so does Miguel because he stopped screaming for a minute to ignore us and pull his phone out to record) which also brings up some very important questions of consent and professional conduct. We had been there for an hour, had one drink, and my friend who was with me "said, hey we have been waiting 30 minutes to get our drinks", at which Miguel proceeded to lunge over the bar Ariel-over-the-rock-style and SCREAM in her face. I completely shut down and my fight, flight or freeze (FREEZE for me) kicked in. My friend yelled back, because it was so uncalled for it was jarring. We asked for our check, and he did not acknowledge the request and proceeded to be loud and gruff. When we left I was fighting back tears with my heart beating in my ears. I am a native Austinite, and while I may not be a bar fly here, I have been coming here on occasion most of my adult life, never have I EVER experienced anything like this at any establishment. It's a problem. So, unless you're a patron who comes here regularly prepare to be ignored, talked down to, possibly even yelled at. Also expect Miguel to rile up all the patrons for an absolute s-show ending to make sure you're adequately shamed if you dare to stand up for yourself. read more

My family being FROM Austin, my dad raves about this place when it was considered the Poodle Dog yeeeaars ago. We went in for my first time tonight and the guy working, Garth, was unnecessarily rude about the mask policy. Totally understand/respect enforcing a policy but no need for an a**hole attitude. If handled differently, would've been glad to slap a mask on and give our business. Also, kind of ironic that the dude was wearing a bandana as a mask...Which has been proven to be as effective as not wearing one... I've been here a few times with friends over the last couple of years---the drinks are typically decent and the prices aren't normally out of control. Unfortunately though, if you're from California, be prepared to pay $17 for an old fashioned. Needed a spot for drinks with the co-workers and we decided on the Aristocrat. Great choice as there was plenty of seating and pool tables. The drinks were reasonbly priced as well, something you don't find often in Austin. We played pool, threw a little skee-ball (it's pricey for a round!) and had the best round of tequila shots ever (the bartender shook the tequila with ice and it was just so smooth!). Don't expect a fancy space, this is a dive bar through and through. But it's a nice little piece of old Austin that hasn't been priced out yet. Plenty of parking too! read more
