I've been here a bunch of times in the past and I went here tonight to eat. The atmosphere is exactly how I remembered it from a few years back. The parking lot is a bit small though. The staff are friendly and are usually patrolling around the tables. If you have bad eyes, then you might have a hard time reading the menu because the whole restaurant is pretty dim. I was able to read it fine but my dad couldn't read it so my brother gave him his flashlight. First off, the chips and salsa are good - particularly the salsa. I think their salsa is one of the best I've tasted as far as I can remember. Anyways, I recommend the fajitas or enchiladas. They all taste good especially with steak. Steak is better than chicken (in my opinion). The combinations are good, too, because they give you a good portion. The portions are just right and will make you full if you finish everything. 3.5 stars I came to El Torito last night because I had just been shopping at the Great Mall. Looks like they've undergone a renovation since I've been in! I don't think I've been here for a year or so, now the kitchen area is open so you can see the chefs cooking. So our party of 3 had to wait 45 minutes on a Saturday night. Looks like it was very busy. The food was delicious though... I loved my sizzling chicken enchilada! Delicious. And of course, very good portion size. Unfortunately, I am not giving them 4 stars due to the below par service. I asked for a straw for my diet coke and the server completely forgot. She also forgot lemons for our water. I understand they were very busy, but attention to detail is important. Still, I will say El Torito delivers consistently yummy Mexican food so I would definitely return in the future. Also, now that Chevys is out of business, El Torito is the best chain Mexican restaurant. On another note, I've been to their happy hour before and their margaritas are delicious!! I honestly love the Sunday brunch at El Torito's. My only issue is that the brunch is $25 per person. I don't think if I were to order off the menu that I'd eat $25 worth of food. If it was lowered to $20? As for the food, there is so much to choose from. I freaking love Mexican food, I'm just made that I don't have a bigger stomach. This EL TORITO in Milpitas, CA went from EL TORITO to EL GHETTO overnight with current Management. That are very rude to customers. With the current Management and cooks all of the food has changed. Starting with there Salsa that was blended perfectly, but now all tomatoes peels salsa that you are constantly spitting out. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this store to anyone ever. El Torito's brunch is so delicious, it beats Pedro's brunch. We went on a Sunday morning around 10 am. I only waited a max of ten minutes. I had a friend visiting from out of town. She loved it. There is a lady who is making tortillas by hand for the taco station. There is a lot of variety, from pozole, chilaquiles, carnitas, salad, and even omelettes made to order. The brunch includes desserts like churros, pan dulce, arroz con leche, flan, and there is a waffle station. Our lovely waiter Salvador had us laughing and best of all he kept those mimosas coming. Had a really GREAT EXPERIENCE with Angel and Lorena today! Hosting us for my sons Baptism lunch celebration with about 45 guests. I've been to El torito many times with my wife and family and decided to do a large group lunch here. The process was seemless and communication was great. Went to El Torito with my friends after work. It was happy hour but we really didn't utilize it well. We were seated towards the bar area and took a while to someone to greet us our server. Then Maria Elena, I think that's her name, came with dread like braids in a pony tail. She was very attentive to us. We got shots of patron, margaritas and la Negra beer and Apps of flautas. We loved the flautas it's a go to app for us crunchy and savory with two dipping sauces. We later on got an entree the Macho Combo to share as well. Everything was good until the end, we paid and tipped her...but found out the server pocketed an extra $100 for her tip and charged us $100 over that was meant to be a part of the bill. She had outside tables but we were ending the night and her last table. So clearly you would see cash and card. I didn't catch that until after I signed for the bill. My friends were sobering up while I paid so I was thinking why she may have done this because we were drinking and wouldn't suspect. I confronted her and she at first said no and tried to tell me what I had given her. I said no I know how much cash I had. I had her make change so I can give her cash tip instead of card tip. And then the other money would be with the card. She threw the receipt in the trash and wrote the $100 less on the bill and showed her math of the $100 to over charge me. And said oh yeah there was a $100 cash with the other money towards the bill. She apologized but then to reverse it's going to take a few days on my credit card to go back and then they recharge me the right bill. So really that was an inconvenience. I love El Toritos to hang out drink eat and the new modern change of the decor. Nothing wrong with that just be aware of your servers charging you when you drink! read more

I was super pleased with my service and food during the happy hour. I came in solo, grabbed a table in the cantina, was helped promptly by a gentleman who worked at the 3pm time slot on a Tuesday. He asked me about my drink and food preferences, promptly servers me chips and salsa, and was generally super pleasant and accommodating. Irina (sp?) switched into her shift while the original gentleman was there, and both were super helpful and kind. I ordered the veggie fajitas, which were very tasty! It's a pretty dang solid amount of food for the price. I also had a birthday entree, so that was nice to use that toward the fajitas. OH YEAH, PEOPLE! Sign up for their email thing and get a birthday entree good for up to $12.99! I'm all about freebies. The salsa tasted very fresh, the chips were light and crispy, the margaritas tasted good, and I generally enjoyed myself. Killer happy hour from 3pm-close, which is generally 10pm, so good for after work, late happy hour as well! It sounds like the recently renovated, and it looks really nice, with plenty of indoor cantina space, as well as patio space! It's within a plaza, so there is plenty of parking, so that was a plus! Came here on Father's Day.. my family of 9 and I checked in at 10:30, one of the staff told us it would be at least 1.5 hour wait..cool no worries, it's busy, it's a holiday.. no problem right! Now it's 12pm and nothing. When I go to ask about when we'll be seated, the two ladies at the booth (Damaris and Sara) said "I have no clue, I cannot give you a time and we're only seating reservations first and we have no space to seat your party." How is this possible if they took down our party name at 10:30. I was baffled as to how and why they wouldn't be able to seat us as people were leaving and tables were opening up. I had to ask for their DM info. My party and I had to literally go up 3-4 times to ask again and again when we would be seated... AGAIN, the general manager couldn't give us a reasonable explanation as to why. Reservations were late for their check in time and the GM was still seating reservation even though they were 20-30 minutes late. At this point I was frustrated and still couldn't believe this is how they did things. Coming from the restaurant business I was speechless. It wasn't until the 4th time that we asked again and the other manager Cesar came and did what he had to do.. he showed us a table and we ended up getting seated. After waiting relentlessly the service with our server and the food was excellent. I hope that Erin or any other higher ups resolve this issue as I want to believe that this was an isolated incident! read more

Visited El Torito for an early birthday celebration and it was a great since happy hour ends at closing! $4 tequila shots and $8 margaritas can't beat those prices! I ordered the fajitas platter which came with chicken, steak, and shrimp along with rice and a small side of guac. The steak was the most flavorful and was perfectly cooked. The shrimp was really tasty and the chicken disappointed as it was on the drier side. The fajita platter is pretty worth the price, I think it was ~$22, and can easily feed 2 people! What mexican restaurant runs out of guacamole at 8pm? What Mexican restuarant charges a fortune for a drink? This El Torito, that's who. OUT OF GUACAMOLE at 8pm? That's ridiculous. Then my TWO White Russians ended up costing a total of $44. White Russian: $9.00 Extra shot of Kahlua: $8.50 each Extra shot of vodka: $4.00 each (ok) I've never paid this much As my boss was buying, I told her to take it out of my check because it was so ridiculous! We had two appetizers, my drinks and two soda drinks. The damage? Almost $100. Wow, with no guacamole. Wasn't worth the price, wasn't worth having it taken off my check. **Also, when we were first seated, it was right where they dumped the dishes. It was LOUD and very disturbing..had to ask to be repeated, and ended up at bar seating because they were letting servers go . . . At 8pm????
