We arrived for lunch @ 3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon. Told we had a wait of 25 min. There were open tables in the bar area. I asked about those tables. We were told once again NO. The hostess told us they only had one server. My husband asked if we could sit and wait at a table, we were told no (again) she told us we couldn't be served bc there was only one server. The hostess said "sorry about that!)(about 5 times) We were turned away! This El Torito is across the street from John Wayne Airport. Hotels all around. On Mac Arthur Blvd. A large church down the street. Meaning there are people all around here. And they have one server on a Sunday afternoon? Did I mention I had a walker? She would not serve us. Came for the Sunday Brunch. The food was soo good! The chile colorado particularly was spectacular! The meat super tender but not falling apart. Great sauce and flavor. The seafood cocktail was super delicious, but make sure to squeeze some fresh lemon juice (from the fresh lemon wedges they provide) to help pop all the fresh flavors from all the cucumber, red onion, tomato, and variety of seafood composed mainly of shrimp (zero bleach taste), imitation crab, and the creaminess of the avocado. I decided to visit this restaurant for the first time because the Google reviews seemed decent and it's close to my office. Unfortunately, my experience was so disappointing that I feel the need to leave this review to help other customers avoid going through the same unpleasant situation. The food itself wasn't bad, but it took over 15 minutes just for someone to come and take my order after I was seated, and more than 30 minutes in total for the food to arrive. The restaurant didn't seem that busy, but the servers weren't very friendly, and despite waving multiple times and trying to get their attention, they just kept walking past. The bigger issue was the credit card charge. I'm not sure if this is a restaurant-wide issue or just one particular employee, but the final amount charged was different from what I signed. I clearly signed for $67, but when I checked my statement later, it showed $69. Luckily, I had kept my receipt, so I was able to confirm the discrepancy and figure out what had happened. If you dine here, make sure to keep your receipt and double-check the final charged amount to avoid any issues like mine. I really hope the restaurant addresses and fixes this problem. read more

We came here for Sunday buffet hour, recommend making reservation beforehand. The variety of food was amazing, el menudo and dessert section were my favorite. The indoors area is very cute and spacious. The waiters were super generous, friendly, and quick with our drinks refills. My husband and I have been a customer of El Torito restaurants (different location) for many many years. We were at the 18512 MacArthur Blvd. location in the later part of the evening. Seeing only one or two patrons, At first, I thought that place was closed considering it was after nine pm, but too soon did I find what may be a reason why the placed seemed vacant. I Ordered my favorite drink, a grilled pineapple margarita, only to be disappointed.. it was so poorly made that I returned it; yet , we were charged for it, service friendly but extremely slow, they were out of chips and salsa, our appetizer left lots to be desired. We shared an entrée that was satisfactory. Definitely not with the $100.00 tab we paid. read more

The service can be extremely slow depending on who you have and that's at the bar. The food is never the same portion (too small or regular) and the food takes forever. Today, I saw several people walk out after waiting over 45 minutes for food and without any refills on drinks or chips. My food was a lunch special but was charged extra. I ordered a Tito's but they didn't have any or anything close. I got Grey Goose and was charge extra for their lack of planning. Overall, I've tried hard and wanted to like this place but I've been disappointed over and over again. It's all the managements fault, the staff works hard but are constantly understaffed. I see the manager walking around but she seems unaware or uncaring of the struggle of her employees. It's super disappointing because I bet with better management this place could really pull themselves up. Hopefully, corporate will be able to fix the lack of direction so the staff can actually make money and do their job. read more

They seem to always be understaffed whenever I go there. Went in around 5pm on Saturday night, and sat at the bar with two friends. The bar was empty and the restaurant dining room wasn't too crowded. We waited probably 3 minutes till someone knowledged us. They said they will ups be right with us. Was brought our chips and salsa quickly, which is the only good thing about this interaction. We then waited about 6-10 more minutes. When my friend finally asked the bartender if we could order drinks, he said that he had to get to other tables first. Well, we were only there for drinks in the first place, and the fact that the bartender didn't make us feel wanted, we decided to get up and leave. We went to El Torito for happy hour, and it was not happy at all. The bar was slammed and there was only one waiter. He was extremely busy and forgot a few things. On top of that they were out of Taquitos, Flautas, and Chile Rellenos. This is king of important items in a Mexican Restaurant. The service was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I loved the Margarita flavor options and the options to do a flight of margaritas. They have everything from sweet to spicy! We all loved the food we ordered and we loved the "happy hour" menu options as well! The salsa was spicy but I love spice and I thought the guacamole was delicious! My very first bite was full of fat. Had to spit it out. Second bite was not much better. I could not finish it. It was disgusting. The was not at all. It was early evening, and I wanted to have a relaxing dinner with family and remembered my wonderful visits in years past. When we arrived, we were met by hostess, Judith. She was friendly, outgoing, Jovial and a definitely a people person. The food was amazing as always and our server David was on top of his service. Whatever we needed, he was there. We had an amazing experience at El Torito, and a big part of that was thanks to our wonderful server, Stephanie! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was lively and welcoming--but Stephanie truly made it feel like a special night out. She was friendly, attentive, and had great timing with everything--from drinks to appetizers to our entrées. She checked in on us often without being overbearing, and her menu recommendations were spot on. (If you go, definitely try the fajitas and one of their signature margaritas!) What really stood out was her genuine personality--she made us feel right at home, like we were regulars even though it was our first time there.
