My family and I were on our way to Kansas City when we found this gem off the highway in O'Fallon, Missouri. We were craving mexican food and this hit the spot. I put in a to-go order and their service was excellent and very friendly; it only took them about 20 minutes even when they had a line out the door to eat at this place. I've never seen a Mexican restaurant so busy. I ordered the fajita quesadilla with rice and beans and the first bite I took was absolutely heaven. It was juicy, cheesy, and super delicious with the perfectly sautéed peppers and onions. This will go down as one of the best quesadillas I've ever had. The rice was perfectly cooked and the refried beans were were out of this world. El Tio Pepe will have my attention when I'm passing through again. I'll be back. read more

Met a group of friends to celebrate a birthday among the group. Most had a margherita to drink. I ordered a chicken chimichanga, came with refried beans and fried rice on the side along with lettuce, tomato sour cream and guacamole. Fabulous Menu(Taco Salad with fried shell my favorite for 20 years!) Affordable heaping servings, not skimpy Authentic Hispanic managed, owned, Hispanic Music always plays, never any other. Music and art in restaurant gives me the ambience and feeling they are really Hispanic and proud of their heritage, which I love. Deserts: Fried Ice cream and Hispanic Flan Very clean restaurant and food. I have NEVER been even slightly sick from the food. Service has, is, and will be, which is great to rely and depend on, considering other places. Every seat in house is perfect and inviting. The bar is inviting, service and Bar Tenders wonderful! The bar is beautifully decorated. Business is always crowded and very busy with is great sign for a restaurant that means it is recognized by the whole area how great an experience it is AND since the food is shipped into and sold so fast, it will be much more fresh and higher quality than a slow struggling restaurant that keeps food lingering longer. Top notch Restaurant! I've never been to a restaurant with such great combination of food quality and service! The staff are so personable and on their game and the food is excellent. This restaurant has an excellent Tomatillo Salsa(upon request) and it goes great with chips as well as for your meal. The prices are well under what most places charge these days. read more

Margaritas taste like a screwdriver but instead of cheap vodka, it is cheap tequila. This was the Cadillac margarita. Mole sauce is extremely flavorful if you like to chew on a raw cinnamon stick. The chunks of beef from the Guillado tasted like it was frozen first, then thawed for serving. Yellow cheese does not belong on refried beans...it turned out greasy and unappealing. I've troubled over this review for a while. I have spent much of my life in the Los Angeles area. I've eaten at some of the better restaurants serving Mexican food, and even joined the crowd at the lunch truck for tripe, cabeza, lengua, and other other bits of the cow that most other folks throw away. I've eaten Mexican food south of the border, eaten in homes where the abuela insisted that I eat more. I've also spent enough time at some of the lackluster and poor quality Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles to know what's not up to par. The only reason this place gets two stars for the store bought chips, mass produced taco shells, bland enchiladas and the frijoles that had more gray than my hair... is that it's better than El Magueys. Here, it's edible, but Uncle Pepe should really try a lot harder. It takes nothing to custom make your own chips and taco shells and the returns would be wild. This is about as Mexican as a Taco Bell that serves tequila. (For those not in the know, that's not praise.) read more

From the simple chicken and rice to enchilada verdes nothing disappoints even the wings are excellent! This location is always busy so there may be a wait for a table but the kitchen is quick once seated. Will not be back. My sister lives near this venue and I kept begging to try it. We did! It smells odd when you enter. The smell is carried out into the food. I do not know if it's the oil they use with which to cook or what. I ordered one of my favorite Mecican dishes, Enchiladas Verde. Meh! If I hadn't been famished, I would not have eaten it. Everything just tasted a little off. Service was indifferent. I think that they have so much businness that they don't pay much attention to their customers. Worst was the feeling after leaving the restsurant of my food just lying in my stomach like a lump. I did have an upset stomach after dining here. Too bad. El Tio Pepe has always been a favorite of ours. My daughter recently graduated from high school, and the date we picked for her graduation party ended up falling on the tail end of a weeklong business trip. I was going to be hosting around 100 or so people, and wanted to enjoy the celebration, not be a panic-ridden basket case. I had El Tio Pepe's cater the food, and was absolutely blown away. They arrived the day of the event, set up a beautiful spread, with chafing dishes and cute, labeled dishes. I should mention that there was a torrential downpour of rain when they were arriving. They were all smiles, upbeat, and had everything set up beautifully in no time! Throughout the entire party, guests were raving about the delicious taco bar, the chips, salsa, queso..... what a crowd pleaser!!! There was truly something for everyone. I even had people ask if they could make a plate to take home. Best of all, everyone was relaxed and had a great time (even the host!!). We were fans before, but we are absolutely raving fans now!! My BFF and I went there for the first time a couple weeks ago and had a great experience. We had about a 15 minute wait, so we scoped out the bar and ordered delicious margaritas. On a Saturday night we got the medium size for $5 bucks and they will let you pay for it at the end with your meal. Just don't forget to tip the bartender before you go! Our server was very sweet and patient. She went over the specials and answered all of our questions and gave us another round of time to think. I went with the special which was shrimp and chorizo in a tortilla, kinda like a quesadilla. It was so so good! The service was ok nothing special real. It's a berry busy place so I was shocked to experience what I did. Let's start off with the menu. They do not offer a alcohol/cocktail drink menu. I asked the server what kinds of drinks do they have. The server stated she did not know the drinks they carry because it changes so often ñ. That was not impressive. I ordered a Paloma but she first had to find out if they make it. They brought the Paloma and it was gross. It tasted like it was made mostly with lime juice. The appetizer was good we got the queso fundido. I ordered some fajitas very disappointed I only had like 4 pieces of shrimp barely any meat mostly sauce veggies. I was not impressed by this place. Maybe we got a bad server maybe it was just busy they could not keep up. Regardless I do not recommend this place and I will not be returning. Food is not cheap and I sure don't want to waste it on garbage! read more

When I told my boyfriend I was going to post a review of El Tio, he jokingly told me not to say how I really felt because it is hard enough to get in as it is! The food is the best Mexican I have ever had, the margaritas sooo good and the staff is friendly, efficient and seem so happy to work there. Very reasonably priced. Family friendly, but also a great adult gathering place. We've seen the owner bussing tables on several occasions. This is a family that has put its heart and soul into their business and it shows! Very clean restrooms, parking might be an issue if you come during peak hours, but oh, so worth it! I only wish there was more than one location! read more
