Tacos

Too expensive charge me extra for what I ordered they put like $30 dollars extra into my receipt the tip was separate!!

Beef and two chicken tacos.
Michael S.

Summary: An inviting atmosphere, a large and varied menu with fair prices, and satisfying though not exceptional food. El Agave is larger on the inside than it looks from the street and has an outside patio dining area. Complementary chips and salsa arrived quickly. Neither tasted particularly fresh but were satisfactory. Every table had a QR scan to bring up the menu on your phone. It opened a nine page selection of apps, fajitas, burritos, steaks, combinations, lunch specials and more. All I wanted was a better-than-Taco Bell taco--not really a high bar. With a choice of beef or chicken I split the three tacos between a beef and two chicken. I wasn't given an option for soft or crispy shells and all arrived with crispy. The ground beef didn't pass the Taco Bell test. It lacked seasoning and tasted simply like cooked ground beef. The moist chicken taco used breast meat and was far superior. Fortunately, I needed no additional service after my meal was dropped off because the server never checked on me. Would I return? Maybe. More likely, I'd give another local Mexican spot a try.

First time coming here and I can say that I will definitely be back again. Went with my two friends Tuesday evening right before the dinner rush. We had a great server, probably one of the best servers I've ever had at a Mexican Restaurant. Tex-Mex restaurants are one of my favorite to go to, I have this particular entree that I like to order called Quesadilla Mexicana that I happen to find at almost any Tex-Mex restaurant. This time I decided to order a "Quesadilla Special" which instead of chicken or beef, it's a cheese quesadilla with chorizo, Mexican sausage. It was flavorful, and the sides of lettuce tomato and guacamole were all fresh. We received our food at a decent time. We also ordered their special small pitcher of lime margaritas. Great experience!

There is not a wait list but we got there around the middle of the Sunday morning brunch rush and were seated within 5-10 min. The hostess was not in a great mood but we didn't let that hamper our spirits. The menu is huge. You can have brunch or Mexican lunch. They have your typical breakfast items with a Mexican twist or they have Mexican breakfast items. I chose the build your own croissant sandwich while my hubby got an omelet. Both were served with some sort of potato and came out in huge portions. They also walk around with some type of bread/donut that they offer you. We can't wait to try again!

Lots of staff trying to coordinate getting people seated, and food/drinks going. We only waited a few minutes before getting seated at a table in the bar area. Server came by quickly to ask about drinks and food orders. We needed a couple of minutes, and while we worked on it, a different lady brought a couple of pastries. They were tasty and not as sweet as they looked. We ordered a seasonal breakfast special and a birria dish, along with chips and queso. Food came out after about 15 minutes, and we assumed our server forgot to put in the chips. No worries, as the dishes are huge portions and very tasty! She realized as we were about halfway through eating and asked if someone had already brought them out. We said no and she went and got them. At that point, we could have skipped it. The queso wasn't great and tastes like melted American cheese with some peppers in it. Not at the same level as the other food. Restaurant is noisy, and the walls and ceiling don't help dampen it much. Would come again if in the area, just would make sure to budget more time and check on the appetizer early!

Their salsa is good, but not a ton of spice to it which is great for people who don't like salsa too spicy. The service is fast and the food gets served fast here too. We ordered lime margarita, 3 Mexican street taco combo meal (2 carnitas 1 carne asada), the enchilada/taco combo meal, and the taco/tostada combo meal Pros: -their happy hour time is from 11-6 which gives you plenty of time to go in for cheaper drinks with a lunch time meal deal. -the flavor of the carnita and carne asada was good -the chips they give for chips/salsa were fresh and warm, perfect to munch on while you're waiting for your food Cons: In comparison to other El Maguey locations in STL I felt this location was lacking, specifically: -for corn tortillas with street tacos they just have them steamed in foil which isn't the way street tacos should be, they should be cooked on the griddle with a little oil to bring out the flavor of the corn and give a little bite. Instead steaming them like this location does makes the tortillas blah tasting and easy to rip -the margarita is not as strong as the other locations -overall flavor of the salsas, beans/rice was lacking -price is higher than the other locations I think I'd give them another try out of convenience but if you're even in STL def give the other spots a try!

So, as you might expect, the parking lots are generally pretty full and the restaurant is busy. But, we are always greeted, seated and served with a smile. The strawberry daiquiri was one of the best we have had and the Modelo draft was cold and refreshing. The complimentary chips are crispy and the salsa is fresh and flavorful. The food was delivered hot and delicious. We all enjoyed our meals: chicken nachos, steak fajitas, steak burrito and birria tacos. The staff is super nice and helpful - always ready to provide recommendations and answer questions. They have a rooftop patio (we haven't sat up there yet), lower level patio (dog friendly) and then their giant indoor restaurant and bar area. Benefits Bistro is the food service located within Friendship Brewing. My favorite is the Cajun beef which is served on a flatbread. It is served with Billy Goat Potato Chips, which is just the perfect combination with a Friendship Kolsch.
