Went here with my girls from church. The margarita was good but high to me. Maybe im use to the South side and St Ann latino eateries. I didn't care for the red salsa but the green one was FIRE literally it tasted good and it was ultra spicy. I had street tacos and they were alright. The guac was amazing. The service was okay. The restraurant was clean, hard to see from the street, you need to know where you are going to find it, several people got lost because its in a small plaza and it is not marketed well. The place was just okay it was average. If I'm near and was hungry and i was across the street im going. But honestly im never coming back. like i wouldnt make a special trip here. There is enough places closer to me that tastes better. If you really want an authentic great tasting affordable tacos go to the Mercado on St Charles Rock Road. This place is a small little hole in the wall. My husband and I stopped by on a Tuesday for dinner. It was practically empty so we got to sit anywhere. I got 3 tacos. Beef, pork and chicken all were very good and had the traditional onion and cilantro on top. My husband got the quesabirra tacos. They were so good as well as the dipping sauce! Delicious. Authentic. Very Spicy salsas. Self seating. Their food keeps us returning every time. From when we discovered this place 2 years ago, their red salsa seems to have changed, it's not as fragrant or herby as it was. Their taco meats are always tender, flavorful and reminds me of street tacos in Mexico. They don't skimp on meat in their quesadillas either. Service is a hit or miss at time, the hostess is also bar tender - maybe that's why it's self seating? Lol. Definitely won me over as returning customers in St Charles area and I'd give it 4.5 stars if Yelp lets me. I love supporting this small business and my foodie stomach. read more

Authentic Mexican flavors which means it's different than most other Mexican restaurants found in the Midwest. For starters, they bring out 2 bowls of sauce/salsa different than anything I remember tasting. Full of flavor (and the red one is full of heat). We added a guacamole which was clearly freshly made and was fantastic. The waitress recommended the tacos and the tradition fajitas. Both were excellent! I liked the steak street taco the best (unusual for me) with the chicken and chorizo also both earning high marks. The fajitas were a very generous portion and very well prepared. The peppers and veggies were well cooked (not underdone) and the whole dish was described as "quite tasty". The music was a little loud, so maybe a spot I wouldn't bring the grandparents and I'm not sure how kid friendly the menu was for spice fearing children. Wow. Re-discovering this one after an ownership change and a few years. So good. Mega-traditional menu (name matches huh?). Lots of choices, all looks great. We had tacos, and a quesadilla, plus a kids quesadilla for our mini. The chips arrived and were freshly made in house, along with two bowls of salsa, one of which was "Salsa Chica" and it was delicious, tomato-y and roasted pepper, creamy. Hard to describe but fantastic and unique. The tacos were perfectly proportioned and only$2 each. They were delicious. The quesadilla had great marinated pulled chicken on it was also very tasty. No other Mexican restaurant around can compare. If you want more authentic style Mexican food this is the place.(I've been coming back for at least 3years now.) Great service I've brought all of my friends here and they also love it. Great place to hangout and get a drink and food or just grab food to go also. Its not super busy so thats always a plus, the food quality and service are so good partly because they aren't crazy popular and crazy busy. I've seen some nights get pretty busy and they still do good though. The owner is also friendly along with all the servers. My favorite server is mostly at the 314 location now but she is not the only good server either. I cant recommend this place enough if you've never been and if you have then you already know this is the spot! My favorite things are probably the al pastor tacos and the shrimp Tostada but the enchiladas are also good. (I had to come back and edit this to mention the salsa it is amazing! Note: Lots of reviews about what authentic means (authentic: made or done the same way as an original authentic Mexican fare). Of course, there are all types of variations on food. I grew up with Gooey Butter Cake made with cake mix, which was THE way to make it. Our church cookbook posted two recipes differing only in the number of eggs; both used cake mixes. Tradicional 636 is in a tiny strip mall nestled between a Mexican grocery store and a salon catering to Hispanic clientele. The salon was packed with customers. We had decided to get takeout. Good decision because it was HOT inside the restaurant. The thermostat read 85 degrees. I don't do heat well, so I'm glad we weren't staying. The atmosphere was nice--clean, bright, and a TV station on playing something in Spanish, a drama I think. There are several tables and some booths inside this small restaurant. There was one customer eating alone at a table by the window. A server took our order. She spoke enough English to help us figure out what to order but later when we tried to ask in English how long she had worked there, she didn't understand. We tried in Spanish and she told us where the restroom was. Baño and año...ahhhh! I wonder what we actually said. Ugh! Anyway, we ordered two chicken tacos (corn tortillas, street style), and two sopes, one chicken and one beef. Sopes were new to us so we thought we'd try them. While we were waiting, we shared a cold Mexican coke in a glass bottle. It reminded me of my childhood: cold cokes made with real cane sugar, sold in bottles. What a treat! Another employee came by while we were waiting and saw me taking pictures. He said, "Looks pretty different, huh?" He said the place went under new management about seven months ago, and had been completely renovated and renamed Tradicional 636. He seemed enthusiastic about the changes. Just then, a man with a jangling key chain hefted a 4-top table through the front door. After depositing the table in the back, he stood about 15 feet from us at the door to the kitchen, having a conversation in Spanish with our server. We speculated that he was the New Management as had an air of authority and a bunch of keys. But who knows? Our takeout bag arrived, just as we emptied the bottle of Coke. We paid and headed home for some food and central A/C. The tacos were delicious, with moist, well-seasoned shredded chicken and a double layer of corn tortillas. Two mini tubs of sauce are provided, red and green. The red is okay, not hot. The green is scrumptious and spicy hot, but you just want more anyway. We both thought the sopes were okay, kind of like dry corn patties to hold toppings. We prefer tortillas. All are made of corn so naturally GF. Prices were low and the taste was great. Next time we'll call ahead if the weather is hot, but we'll definitely go back to try more dishes. read more

I love Mexican food particularly street tacos and had been wanting to try this place out for a little bit. My daughters and I got dinner and we were not disappointed. I really enjoyed the street tacos although the shells were a little damp and maybe that had something to do with take out and the condensation in the box. Everything else about the taco was-however delicious. I really enjoyed my shrimp so pay as it was plenty of shrimp on there in the subway was chewy and had great bite and flavor. The chicken gordita was also very tasty although I think I would preferred it with a different kind of meat and the chicken. No knock on the chicken as it was good and there's plenty of meat I just think I would've preferred a different protein flavor My youngest really enjoyed the California burrito as she of course got all the good stuff left off like sour cream cheese in the pico the Gallo but they took care of her and there was plenty of meat and rice and fries. The burrito also was a good size and she couldn't finish all Of it. Last but certainly not least was the torta and it was delicious and I really enjoyed the bread of the sandwich along with all the fresh toppings that go with all good sandwiches. With our order they sent two kinds of sauce one was like a Verde that was creamy with a little spice and the other was a smoky red sauce. Definitely prefer the green. This place is legit and Definitely a step above Tex-Mex style restaurants that so many people take as true Mexican food. read more

I grew up in Northern California and while there are several decent Mexican culinary options locally, none have come so close to reminding me of the authentic flavors I remember from my childhood. After having driven pasted this place for about 2 years and saying "one day we're going to try that place", we finally did and we're not disappointed. Tradicional 636 is definitely a hole in the wall type place, however the food was full of flavor and filling. I ordered the carne asada, my wife had the chicken burrito and my son had the small chicken quesadilla. First let me say their two salsas are top notch. In fact I'm starting to drool thinking about that green salsa, which I think is a tomatillo salsa that has a heat that creeps up on you after you eat it. It's addicting. My wife's chicken burrito was easily as big as what you get at Qdoba or Chipotle, and my son kept trying to sneak bites of it after he ate his. They did put beans on the burrito which I like but my wife doesn't love them, but she still said it was good. My son devoured his quesadilla after declaring he did not want a quesadilla! I love the fact they off 3 sizes of quesadillas- which is perfect if you have a 6 year old. My carne asada was full of flavor with a plentiful plate of toppings. I kept dousing mine with the green salsa... The only real gripe I had at all was they didn't have fountain sodas, do we ordered bottled. However having an old school glass bottle of coke with your food goes had in hand with the authentic dining experience we had. I will be back for the green salsa. read more

I am always looking for more Mexican restaurants to add to my list of places to eat. My brother and I were wanting to head to our favorite bakery which happens to be in St. Charles. I found the reviews of this place and I figure that I would give it a try based on what my fellow Yelpers wrote about it. This place is amazing! The food is so delicious! The price will leave you room to order desert or head to the casino afterwards! My brother and I ordered 3 tacos each. We also ordered a steak quesadilla to try! The taco come on 2 small round tortillas. There is enough meat that you split it onto each tortilla. My brother just ate it like it came. So the tacos are the choice of your meat, some onions and cilantro. They also give you a lime wedge if you want to add it to your tacos. These tacos were so delicious! I ordered a asada, chorizo and al pastor tacos. All 3 were amazing! I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items on their menu!! read more
