I picked up my lunch from here today, and it was absolutely delicious. I placed my order in advance and it was ready at the promised time, so I was able to get in and out very quickly. The staff was nice and the restaurant was clean with plenty of seating for those dining in. This is one of the only truly authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. I got one each of the asada and pastor tacos, they were fabulous. They come with plenty of onion and cilantro on top, as well as an almost creamy salsa. Zero complaints. I gave the shrimp ceviche a try as well--the flavor was on point, however the avocado had seen better days. The shrimp was still a little gray as well. It was a very generous portion though, for one tostada--definitely not complaining! ;) I'm excited to eat my way through this menu--so, so happy to see more authentic cuisines in the Saint Charles area. read more

The food in here is AMAZING and this is the first AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant I have ever seen this side of the river. We're so happy they are here! There are several tables on both the grocery store side & restaurant side of the space and while it's "no frills," it's fine for what it is. Bright with a large menu and a case of ice cream flavors from pistachio, to strawberry, to queso ice cream and Mexican popsicles and other sweet & salty goodies! They also have a small selection of refrigerated items such as chorizo (mild & spicy), fresh corn tortillas, tomatillos, and jalapeños. And some shelves of dry goods and religious candles. The star of my dinner was the shrimp ceviche. It was served on a thick tostada that held up to the last bite. The generous portion was bursting with flavors of shrimp, citrus, cilantro & onion and a creaminess from the addition of a little mayo. It was super delish. I'll get this every time. The street tacos were also some of the best I've had (Al pastor & carne asada) and absolutely brimming with the filling. Simple and perfect with the accompanying salsa verde. Their chicken nacho was so refreshing - I loved the seasoning the chicken was marinated in. The cheese sauce wasn't a white queso but was still SO good - when I saw that it was yellow I was scared it would taste like the canned stuff but it didn't! It was creamy and delicious. The pico de gallo was so flavorful & the perfect compliment to the dish. Also got two chicken tacos with the traditional cilantro onion lime and salsa verde. That salsa was so so good but definitely has heat to it so I'm glad I started with a small amount. I love that they are also a shop so you can buy Mexican staples and dried chili peppers and things like that. Looking forward to trying some other things they offer! We ordered the street tacos and elote cup of corn. The corn was great! All the right flavors and a huge cup of it to share. The tacos were not great. We tried the steak. They had great flavor with the cilantro/onion/tortillas. We had issues with the marinated pork. They were not good. Little tiny, tiny hard pellets filled our shells. And I mean hard. Not one ounce of larger moist pork. It was so odd. Definitely wouldn't get again. read more

The overall environment did not feel well-maintained or welcoming. To make matters worse, I found a black hair in my burrito. I have blonde hair, so it was clearly not mine. Incidents like this raise serious concerns about food preparation and hygiene. After eating the Green Enchilada soup dinner that was made at home, my niece was craving birria tacos. A quick google search lead us here. We called our order in and it was ready when we arrived, a quick 15 minutes. We will be back!! She ordered Quesa Birria tacos with the broth on the side, I opted for the hot chocolate. The tacos were fresh, filled well, and the flavor hit the taste buds fulfilling the craving. The hot chocolate is thicker than American style, it's flavored with cinnamon. So good! Comfort in a cup. As authentic as it gets! Truly delicious Mexican food! They offer a smaller, casual area to dine in but also offer everything to go. Our to go order on a Friday evening came out fairly quick. I can't speak on the atmosphere or the service because I door dashed it but oh my god this taco just opened up a new world of possibilities on my tongue. The food is okay; however, me and my friend were thrown out because we complained about them charging for the sample size cups of salsa. They now charge for any additional cups (they didn't use to. They would automatically give you one, whether green or red). The attitude was also rude. They would make facial grimaces one to another thinking we didn't notice. I ordered carryout from this sad excuse of a Mexican restaurant tonight because of the reviews. Now I know exactly why it got more than 4 stars but I "ain't sayin'" why. There weren't many customers when I got there and one of them was at the counter with me waiting for carryout. There were two girls behind the counter talking amongst themselves and moving around at snail's pace. I couldn't figure out what they were trying to be so slowly busy with. It's understandable to not be acknowledged for a minute, but 8 minutes is where my cutoff was. Neither of them could have tried harder to look less thrilled to have to be there. I finally said "Excuse me" and one of them came over. No apology, just mumble "What's the name?". Wow. Need I say more. The food is crap because, like all shortcut Mexican food, things like burritos and quesadillas are filled with fluff...lots of rice. My wife loves most Mexican food but even she said it tasted like garbage. Neither of us ate more than a third of what we ordered. I can deal with crap food. It happens. The best way to describe this food is comfort. It's small, counter service with a market as well. The ice cream is really creamy. Agua frescas are great. Our family favorites are the sopas, chilaquiles (omg the verde!), Dori Elote, Bionico, Fresas Con Crema, elote en vaso, birria, and asada burritos (which is massive). Great family that runs it. Moved to St Louis 11 years ago from Los Angeles and have been looking for good Mexican food ever since. I've learned that I cannot trust when Missourians tell me this or that place has good Mexican food. Sorry guys but you just don't know what good Mexican food is. The other day I stopped in to Sazon Mich and got three carne asada tacos (w/onions and cilantro), and a horchata--because that's the test! Bingo! The best Mexican food I've had since moving here, hands down. It's a hole in the wall, but those places are the best. I stay away from the bigger Mexican restaurants that are really catered to Americans who just want to drink to ingest queso (no offense). I'm not sure how the ice cream is but the tacos weren't good. They were over priced (almost $5 for a single) and they (beef) were tough and chewy (not in a good way). The salsa had good flavor but was filled with seed and hard bits. Maybe add ground beef or chicken or shrimp. Glad all the family was present for the opening. read more

Great authentic street tacos, horchata, and ice cream bars. I did think it was slightly over priced. $3.50 for a taco and the same for an ice cream bar seems high. I'd say closer to $2.95 for the taco and $2.50 for the bars. Really friendly staff. read more
