Vallarta is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Wildwood. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Even when they're extremely crowded, the service is pretty quick. They have nice booths and larger tables if you come with a group. They also have outdoor seating. And the food is delicious! My favorite is the quesadilla grande. I frequently have enough left over for lunch the next day. It's loaded with chicken (or the meat of your choice), grilled peppers, and onions. And the margaritas are pretty wonderful, too! read more

While out in the Wildwood area, I decided to stop in and try out Vallarta. This establishment tucked away on the end corner in this little complex, seemed promising enough. Upon entering i was greeted quickly and sat just as quickly, both good things. I had just started to look at the menu when the choose and salsa arrived and so did the wait staff to ask if I was ready to order. Sadly I was not as i had just been seated. I asked her to return in a few minutes, and quickly scanned the menu to find something. I chose a dish that had a beef burrito and a chile releno, along with a chile poblano at 10.99. The order arrived at my table quickly. I could not help but notice how much melted cheese was on the plate, the chile poblano had no flavor except for cheese.The chile releno was more of the same. The beef burrito was pretty much the standard ground beef burrito with the beef having no real flavor. The chips were a bit stale and the salsa very bland. Overall a very average to just below average meal experience at a Mexican restaurant. read more

The restaurant was empty when we got here but we had to sit over 20 minutes before they took our order. When more tables filled they were able to place their order sooner. When they finally came to take our order she told us she was busy and didn't want the kids ordering for themselves. Luckily the food was good. We'd been here a few times, but it had been quite a while. We were nearby and decided to grab an early dinner. Early as in, we were the first ones there. We were greeted nicely and told to sit anywhere. Drink and appetizer order was taken soon after being seated. The menu is somewhat large so it took us a few minutes to choose our entrees. By now more people had arrived. Our food came out very hot, and very quickly - and all with a smile. Our water glasses were kept full the entire time we were there. The place is pretty large and is decorated in bright colors. There's something to look at everywhere. All the servers were friendly. The menu has lots of options, and we were happy with our choices. Vallarta is a hidden gem located in a strip mall off of a side street near Manchester road. The appearance inside doesn't do much to elevate the ambiance of a strip mall restaurant, however, the food at Vallarta's is full of flavor and value. I dined here with my wife and ordered a Vallarta Burrito and a side soft beef taco. The taco was stuffed full of very flavorful beef and plenty of cheese. The beef in the burrito was equally flavorful and I was very impressed with the seasoning on the refried beans and Mexican rice. Too often, these side are blah....but not here, they are full of flavor. I can't overemphasize how tasty the food is here and at the same time, many of the entrees are less than $10. This place has great food, great value and offers great service with a smile. If you haven't tried this place and you like Mexican food, you need to give Vallarta's a shot. read more

The food and service here is consistently top notch! Every single time I've asked for a special request for pickup, it is fulfilled 100% of the time! I've added notes to orders for substitutions and they always get it right. The food has great flavor and isn't over salted. The salsa is delicious. My husband likes the margaritas. Outstanding neighborhood restaurant serving a number of americanized Mexican cuisine and occasionally others. Family owned and run and the wait staff has been there for a very long time. The food is consistently good and the drinks are outstanding. If you know what dish you want, and it's off menu, there's a fair chance that the kitchen can make it for you. I always take it as a good sign when native Central and South Americans eat at an establishment and it's not uncommon at Vallarta. They can be VERY busy around dinner time, so don't get discouraged if it's packed in the (very small) waiting area. It's usually never taken more than 10-15 minutes at the most extreme (once or twice in 20 years). If it's your first visit, and unless you are prepared to wait...DO NOT GO ON MONDAY's! Now, with that warning out of the way, they have ridiculous specials on Tacos and Margaritas on Monday nights, so you can expect the commensurate crowds and service levels. read more

1-22-21: Hola! Went to Vallarta mostly to support the local business and its close. Ordered for pickup and they were delayed. That's a positive since I hope business is good. The jalapeño poppers are really good and I recommend as an appetizer. Burritos were good too but I miss it being served hot on the plate for in-dining. Customer service here is non-existent. The lady who waited on us when we came in last month barely made eye contact, rushed us to sit down and order, acted annoyed with the least hesitation from us when looking over the menu, and was gone when I looked up from signing my receipt at the end of the meal. Had late lunch there on Wed 7/10. Sadly place was not the cleanest. Multiple tables also needed bussed but looked like there was just one guy doing everything. Chips and salsa were good. Vallarta was an experience. Party of 3 on A Tuesday evening and we ate inside. I ordered the Tamale Deluxe (One tamale topped with cheese, two flautas with chicken or beef, small nachos topped with lettuce, tomato, guacamole and sour cream) with no sour cream and asked that the flautas be beef. My dinner dates ordered fish tacos and some other sort of combo. After our server took our order someone dropped off a bottle of salsa and 3 individual bowls to pour the salsa into so we didn't have to share. As I was about to pour the salsa into my bowl I noticed 1 single long dark hair coming out of the bottle. We requested a new bottle of salsa and after that our server wasn't as nice. The salsa didn't have a lot of flavor. When the entrees came out I wasn't sure what to make of mine. There was a whole lot going on on that plate! I'll go item by item... The tamale was there but covered up with queso (not cheese) and the generic guacamole. There were two flautas but only one was beef and the other was chicken. I hate chicken. There were about 5-6 nacho chips on the plate dressed as nachos. In addition there was all of the following not even listed on the menu: a mound of ground beef, a mound of shredded chicken, rice covered in queso, beans covered in queso, and quite a bit of shredded lettuce. I ate the tamale and the beef flauta. That's about it. I don't like when restaurants give you things that aren't disclosed on the menu. I don't like ordering one thing and receiving another. I don't like that there was hair in the salsa. I eat out a lot and things happen but this place just turned me off. read more

My family has gone here so many times that we know many of the evening waitstaff by name, and they know our orders. This place is absolutely amazing. I've always been drawn to the bright colors they use to decorate, but they've also got some pretty neat stuff to look at in there. If you're new, this will keep you busy during the reasonable wait time. Unless you've gone so many times you have the decor memorized. And oh my gosh the food. That food is by far the best Mexican I've ever had. I always get the same thing (a Pollo Ranchero with extra rice) and it has been wonderful every single time. And we always end with sopapillas, which I swear changed my life the first time I had one (and they continue to be my standard for an amazing Mexican restaurant). If you want some good Mexican food and are in the area, I absolutely recommend this. (And seriously, get the sopapilla, I cannot express enough just how good it is) read more

We recently moved to the area. We like to go to the smaller Mexican restaurants...they're usually better than the well known ones. For this place, I disagree. The bar is tiny, very limited tequila and liquor options. The chips we were originally served was a joke. Maybe one or two full sized chips and the rest were broken remnant pieces. We ordered the choriqueso, another disappointment. The cheese was super liquid-like. I would have needed scoops to efficiently eat this dip. The dip was sort of like a ro-tel flavor but worse. We both ordered a bean burrito with cheese on top. This was pretty standard. They didn't shy away from the cheese on this either! We won't be back. Not our cup of tea. read more

We have been to Vallarta three times now, and it's been excellent every time. We first went on a two-day trip to Six Flags in late July, and it was so good that our family of seven all wanted to go back on our second night. We recently went back to St Louis area for some family activities (now in Sept) and we again decided - before we'd even made the trip - that we'd have supper at Vallarta before heading home (2.5 hr drive). Seven of us, three visits, that's 21 total meals and seven very happy customers. Next time we're in the area, we will definitely go again! read more

Great mexican food! Not something I say too often here in St. Louis. I would much rather frequent this restaurant then the next closest alternative 'El Maguey'. The meat was cooked perfectly tender, and well seasoned. The rice and beans were actually done well. Worth eating, a thing which I can't say for most Mexican joints. They do a really decent house Margy too! It does get really busy here. I can see why! But that could be the cause for some of the complaints of slow service. But for us as a family. After 50 check-ins, I feel it is probably time to update my review. This is by far my family's go-to spot for dinner, celebrations, birthdays, etc. First tip: go there on Tuesday night, early dinner or late weekend lunch. It can get pretty crowded, and as some other reviews point out, service can degrade. Foodwise, there is so much to choose from! Based on eavesdropping other tables Burrito California seems like a fan favorite. The fajitas are also great and easily shareable (the veggie ones are even grat). My personal favorite are the fish tacos, but whatever I order I always get their amazing pico de gallo. My kids love the taco salads although you might want to ask them to hold the queso because it does add some heat. My extended family often goes for enchiladas. I also love their chorizo quesadilla. Want something a bit different? Try their soups, which get is through the winter. If you are super hungry go for the tamale deluxe platter, which I have never been able to finish. We love supporting this place. It has become "our" restaurant. read more
