Wow! Phenomenal tacos! Great vegetarian options. I loved the crunchy flauta taco! We even got little complimentary potato taco. The margarita was one of my favorites! The only negative was the pork skins with the guacamole. The guac was excellent but I would prefer only chips. I can't wait to return!
Most authentic street tacos I've had in STL! The steak in the alambre taco is so juicy. It's made even more delicious when you add the salsas that they provide as well as the onions, cilantro, and lime. I also had the carnitas, chile morita, and tripa. Among these tacos, I enjoyed the alambre and chile morita the most - these were clear winners. I didn't particularly like the tripa even though I'm typically a fan of tripe. I didn't think it was that flavorful. Otherwise, I had a great meal. Service was excellent.
I was really excited to finally try Mestiza I ordered ahead for lunch which had a short wait for pickup. I was greeted by staff when I walked in and offered water while I waited. It was only a few minutes and I was leaving with my food. I had a fundido taco, chicken flauta, and a side of street corn. All the food was really good and I had some corn left over for later. I will have dine in next time and bring the family.
I had really high hopes for Mestiza but was severely underwhelmed. The restaurant itself had a very unpleasant smell. The service was very slow. I found the food overpriced, with some single tacos being priced at $8 and $12. The food was good, but I would not pay that much for it again when Stl has so many other better and more affordable choices.
Mestiza has excellent Mexican street tacos and beverages! We will definitely come here again. Mesero took our order at the counter and then we sat at a high top six person table. We each ordered 3 street tacos and beverages. Great flavors in the lamb taco and chicken tacos. My boyfriend likes the Paloma drink he ordered and I liked the mocktail I ordered Deserata I think it's called. Ambiance is colorful without being overpowering. Fun place for dinner!
Awesome place, friendly people, great food. We went there because we'd noticed it the day before and because we wanted tacos. We didn't come in with expectations as we didn't look the restaurant up. We were greeted warmly and weren't rushed into placing our order (you order at the counter here). Everything we had was delicious--the surtida taco was a standout flavor-wise, but the texture made it hard to eat as a taco. (Imagine a bolognese taco--delicious, but a logistical nightmare. But worth the mess.) it would make an awesome nacho topping or be great in a well-wrapped burrito, but it was so good that I can't complain. My friend's tres Marias tacos with queso fundido looked and smelled awesome. The place was clean, bright, and lively with a warm, familiar feeling. I'd say I'll be back, but I don't live in St. Louis, so hard to guarantee.
We tried Mestiza for the first time because of the positive reviews on Yelp. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The service was phenomenal. Our server walked us through the menu, explained the different taco options, and brought out a variety of salsas to sample with a starter potato taco. We ordered carne asada, del trompo, carnitas, and alambre, and every single taco was flavorful and delicious. Definitely worth the extra cost to get them fundido style! Highly recommend.
Wow! The most flavorful street tacos I have had in St Louis! A complementary sweet potato mini taco was served first with four little salsas, lime and onion/cilantro. Delicious! We then started with the appetizer of crispy tortillas and pork rinds served with guacamole. The guacamole was smooth and well seasoned. Tacos were the highlight - specifically the alambre taco and the chicken taco. Both were perfectly spiced and good quality cuts of meat. Our server was so helpful in telling us about the salsas, different tacos and generally the concept of the restaurant. A sweet horchata to drink was a nice accompaniment. Overall, Mestiza ranks at the top of Mexican restaurants in St Louis because of the stand out flavors and high quality of food. Well done!
Phenomenal tacos! Just like what I had in Mexico City, from the plates, meats and tortillas. The salsas here are also very good and spice levels for everyone. Generous with the limes, onions and cilantro too. This is a must visit! I can't believe I didn't know about this place in my own neighborhood sooner. I will definitely be back.
The service was phenomenal They explained the concept & menu items when we walked in. Cute little restaurant. Servers continued to check up on us. The food was great. Its a taqueria so mostly tacos. We tried the guac w tostados & chicharonnes. Delicious! Multiple hot sauces offered. A potato taco as an appetizer. The margaritas were tasty & strong . Authentic. We tried 6 different tacos. Alambre Surtida Campechano Al pastor Casi alucinogeno Chicharron & churros for dessert
Holy *** this place is amazing. The staff are super friendly, the food is amazingly authentic and tasty (seriously nothing is bad on the menu, and the margarita's were epic). It is a fantastic chill and casual spot to just hang. And there's good parking.
Wanted to try this Mexican restaurant forever, and was not disappointed! Ordered two of their tacos and a margarita, perfect for lunch, just the right size!!! They have several salsas for you to try out, I of course loved the spicy salsa...so much flavor!!! The margaritas are good, will have to come back to try them all...
What a cute authentic Mexican treat! All street tacos. DELICIOUS food. The Bld is an old Pizza Hut--but they did the best you can do. Only had on authentic music on the big screens. The mocktail was sooooo refreshing and delicious. Staff were phenomenal. You order at the counter but afterwards they are very attentive. Cutest table water! Will be back for sure.

Excellent tacos, friendly service, and outstanding quality. The tacos were fresh, authentic, and great. The salsa was absolutely spectacular and made completely from scratch. Bottom line: Great food, great people, and a place I'll gladly return to. Highly recommended! I showed our age when I asked if this place had been a Pizza Hut in years past. On hampton ave building is funky. Owner was very nice and asked if we'd ever been before. Canned etc soda. Habanero salsa was amazing. read more

This is a cute taco spot with lots of options and great flavor! You order at the counter and then pick your own seat. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the ordering process was a little confusing. When we arrived, we were told we could order drinks but needed to wait about 10 minutes before ordering food so the kitchen could catch up. After that, it wasn't really clear when we were supposed to go back up and order, and it seemed like a few other people were confused too. The staff was very nice, but it felt like they could have used a couple more people working that day. They even brought us a complimentary vegetarian taco, which was a nice touch! Once we ordered, our food came out within about 15 minutes. The tacos were good, flavorful, and the salsa was great. I think our experience may have just come down to staffing that day. I'd definitely give them another try! read more
This was a different vibe of Mexican restaurant. It wasn't bright and colorful and busy like typical Mexican restaurants in St. Louis. You walk in someone greets you and ask you if you've been there before. Essentially you then order your drinks and food up at the counter, take a table number and sit down. They bring it to you. Even though the kitchen was low behind, they still let us sit down which was really awesome. We were able to get our drinks and then they came out with a free sweet potato taco with all their salsa. It was really nice cause you got to taste the salsa before your meal came out. Our meal came out in really good timing. Just wish that the appetizer came out before the food, but it was still really enjoyable. I got a chicken taco and the other person in my party got three different tacos. The crunchy taco is like a rolled taco that's crunchy. And he said it was the best taco all over them. He got. My chicken taco was OK. The salsa definitely helped otherwise it was too dry. We decided to get the dessert of the churros to go. I didn't get a picture of them, but they were really small. And for the price, I don't remember what it was. I think it was like five dollars. I thought it would be a little bit bigger. I don't know if I would get it again because there was also a sweet heat about them and I just was not expecting that. Other than that, the staff really leave you alone other than to bring out your meal, or take your plates. read more

Service was top notch. Very attentive and knowledgeable to explain the menu and offer suggestions. They even brought out a complimentary potato taco which was packed with flavor. Several salsa options and they were all delicious. They had a bar and canned/bottled sodas. The ambiance is cute and cozy, very clean. The alambre was my favorite, chicharonne was not for me. I also wasn't a fan of the birria. Esquites were fire, super fresh. The menu has so many options so I definitely want to go back and try more. read more

We had the longest week and wanted a little treat to celebrate the start of the weekend. We live so close to Mestiza and had been wanting to give it a try so this was the best excuse. We did stop by the giant chair and take a few pictures before heading inside. We were greeted by a staff member, who gave us a rundown of the menu. You order at the front and get a little Loteria card as your order "number". They bring the food to your table. We ordered 3 tacos de Carnitas, 3 tacos de Carne Asada,2 flautas de papa, 2 flautas de Tinga and ten guacamole with chicharrones and tostadas. They give you a complimentary potato taco to sampled all of their sauce and it was so good! We loved the sauce tray and each had a favorite. My partner loved the milder options and I love the spicier end of the sauce tray which worked out perfectly. We loved how fresh and crunchy the chicharrones and tostadas were and how nicely they paired with the guacamole. Both tacos and flautas were incredible but our favorites were the carne asada tacos and the flautas de papa. We had so much fun, loved the ambiance and are so excited to live so close to this gem. read more

This place was so great in every way. I would have driven by and never stopped in without seeing the reviews and giving it a go. Wow! So glad we did! Food 12/10, staff 12/10. Everything was above and beyond delicious and fabulous. read more
Great taco spot! Friendly service where you order at the counter and they bring out the food and water to your table. Straightforward menu with a variety of meat tacos and a handful of vegetarian taco options with a few sides listed. Started with guacamole and chicharones which came out with a platter of salsas for the tacos, ranging in spiciness. Guac was fantastic! They also brought out a complimentary potato taco to start us off. Tacos are street tacos style so we tried a variety. My personal faves were the birria, del trompo, and tres Marias. The water was also mint infused and serves out of Patron bottles for a unique touch. read more

If you are looking for the best tacos in STL, your search ends at Mestiza. Wonderful service, delicious, fresh, authentic packed tacos, and a clean casual atmosphere. We've found our new regular place, can't wait to go back. read more
I was so excited to try this place from the reviews but was left disappointed. The space is cute and clean and the staff were very friendly and attentive but that's really where the stars end. The guacamole appetizer was good; loved the chicharrones. The tacos were lacking flavor and were pretty dry. There was a nice variety of salsas but were very small portions and more is needed to flavor the tacos. The one taco that saved my tasting was the Flauta de Tinga. The street corn was good but could have been better. It needed more umph. Overall, I was not impressed but the margaritas were good, the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff were great. These three aspects earned the three stars, not the food. read more
I recently visited this authentic Mexican restaurant that specializes in tacos, and I had a pretty good experience. The menu offers a variety of tacos, and I decided to try the carne asada and chicken tacos. Both came with fresh cilantro and onions, which added a nice touch of flavor and freshness. They also provided two types of sauces: mild and hot. If you're into really spicy food, the hot sauce is definitely for you--it packs quite a punch! The meat in both tacos was a bit overcooked, which was a slight downside, but it was still very flavorful. The seasoning and the quality of the ingredients made up for the texture. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Mexican tacos. Service was great, they talked me through everything and also sent me home with some free souvenirs. read more

I am addicted to Mestiza!!! I moved to STL from San Diego and this is my favorite tacos I've had in a long time. This is my 6th time in 4 months coming here because it is always so good. All the staff is extremely helpful and kind, the food comes out very quickly and hot. The dining room is super cute and they serve the water and drinks in the cutest little cups. I've gotten Alambre taco, chicken taco and chicken flauta, potato taco, Guacamole with chicharrones and they were all fantastic!!! The meat had really great flavor, I loved that they give you some of each salsa to try. It's a must try!! read more

Went with two of my besties on Saturday night, and this place did not disappoint. They've updated the interior significantly, and the employees here are super customer service oriented; you can order at the counter, or they will take your order tableside. We ordered all sorts of tacos, and this restaurant concept is to emulate all the different styles of street tacos available in Mexico. We had the carne asada, longaniza (which was described as similar to chorizo and was delicious), el de tinga, and I had the mushroom (casi alucinógeno is what it is aptly named) in addition to the sweet potato taco they brought us with the house's compliments. All tacos are accompanied with four different styles of salsa, cilantro, onions, and plenty of limes. The beverages were equally tasty and served in the most beautiful ceramic mugs. You can imagine called cantaritos. I would have loved some chips and salsa to start, and I will say that the menu was quite confusing. Everything is in Spanish, and even for someone who speaks fluent Spanish, I really struggled to remember what all the different options were when it came time to order. This was despite the owner giving me an amazing education of the menu; I still found myself pretty perplexed. This restaurant is an amazing addition to the neighborhood, and once word gets out, I think it will be slammed every night, and for good reason. Their sister restaurant, Malinche, is an absolute gem, and this place is shaping up to follow in her footsteps. read more

Please give this place a try!! The new owners really went above and beyond. The space is bright, clean, and cozy. The team is hospitable and friendly. We were well taken care of during our visit. They offer counter service. Place your order when you walk in, grab a table number, and take a seat. The food: well, I had a few firsts here that I highly recommend. The guacamole here is fantastic. Just the right amount of salt, garlic, and lime. The guacamole is served with tostadas and chicharrones. I've never had guacamole served this way before and it's fantastic. The tacos were amazing! I went with pork, chicken, and carne asada. Each one was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. I think my favorite (if I had to pick one) was the carne asada. It had a rich smoky flavor kinda like pot roast and gravy. There are a variety of sauces and toppings to make your taco to your liking. We did try a few cocktails as well. I'm a little more traditional with my margaritas. They were good, but definitely not your run of the mill margaritas. Please save room for dessert. The churros were the perfect finish to a delicious meal. read more

Incredible hospitality. Angel and his staff really make an effort to make you feel welcome here. Food was authentic and tasted great for the most part. Great authentic food and wonderful hospitality. I usually judge a Mexican Restaurant by the salsas they serve. Most are still homemade but they can vary in taste and texture. At Mestizo they go above and beyond and are so proud of their 4 different homemade salsas they serve them with a free small sweet potato taco so you can sample them while you are waiting for your meal. Brilliant way to get your tastebuds wanting more and a great teaser for what was to come. We started with the guacamole and wow was it good. Tried 4 different tacos and need to go back and try more. Definitely find time to visit, it may be your new favorite place to get tacos. read more
