Shrimp fajitas on corn tortillas
Tania A.

Haven't been here in a while. We came in because we received a gift certificate for Christmas. There was a twenty minute wait so not too bad. El Maguey is your traditional Tex Mex restaurant. The food is not great but the service is friendly. We ordered the shrimp fajitas to split between two and it was just the right size. The food was just okay. We he beat part was the dessert which we devoured so I didn't take any pics. We ordered the cheesecake chili which is like ice cream with a tortillas on top of it and ice cream and also the sopapillas with ice cream. They were so yummy!

NEW Birria Tacos with rice and beans

Went there for a late lunch. Esperanza was our waitress and was very helpful. While El Maguey is typical "Tex mex", it was a good meal. The portions are huge (we ordered off the regular menu vs the lunch menu). We ordered for the two of us, but the amount could easily have fed 4, so either go with a big appetite or prepare to take food home which we did. I had the Birria tacos and they were good. The dipping sauce is extra for the tacos, but comes with the quesadilla version. Hubby had shrimp and steak fajitas and he really enjoyed them. We split a top shelf margarita, and it was by far the best part of the meal. We sat on the outside patio under umbrellas for shade and enjoyed the afternoon. All in all it was a pleasant experience .

Delicious!!

Fantastic!!! Had some fairly boring Mexican food lately. NOT TODAY!!! My friend said tamales were the best she ever had and my "tacos" were phenomenal!! And I am from a border state that sets the bar!

Queso Dip

El Maguey has been my go to place since I was a kid. Always treated with amazing service and fantastic food. One of my favorite places to go with my family and friends. Owner and staff are super friendly and talkative. Also best cheese dip around.

Chips, salsa and Guacamole Dip. Getting ready to order, nicely staffed and good food.

Altos Cantina Mexican Kitchen is an awesome restaurant to grab some dinner at!…read more I tried this one for the first time on a visit to Eureka, and it was a great experience. The menu is massive, and they have a ton of margaritas and other cocktails (sadly I couldn't enjoy this time - had to drive). I tried the Camarones à la diabla and the enchiladas verde. Both were very good. The enchilada verde sauce was really tasty complimented the meat and cheese well. The camarones à la diabla was also delicious, and not overwhelmingly spicy. The portions are pretty generous, and our waiter was very friendly - the prices are also super reasonable. If you're in Eureka and want a good sit down Mexican restaurant, check them out.

I decided on a lunch taco salad. Reasonable price but it definitely fell short. This was the smallest shell I've ever seen and the ingredients were lackluster. Not inviting and very bland. The shredded chicken reminded me of tuna and only sour cream came as a dressing. I was not impressed at all. I'm not sure how you are a Mexican bar but do not serve flights. I settled on a frozen strawberry banana margarita. It was just ok. Consistency was more liquid than frozen thick. . Overall visit was just ok.

We had gone to their other location years ago and found…read moreeverything to be very average. Nothing really was wrong - it just wasn't really good. They moved to this location and friends had been and said how much they enjoyed it so we decided to give it a try. It was good - not our favorite Mexican restaurant by any means. I'd probably give it 3.5 stars if Yelp would let us do half stars! It was crowded and loud. We got one of the last available tables. We had to wait a bit for a server, but once she came over, she did a great job. We ordered cocktails and queso to start. I usually like a prickly margaritas but I didn't enjoy this one. It was way too sweet and something else that I couldn't put my finger on. My husband ordered the spicy house margarita and said it was okay. It's made from a mix and that's not his preference. He asked for salt on the rim and they put tajin on instead. Our server caught after she brought it over, but he just kept that one instead of sending it back. The queso was good. It had a little kick. I would have liked it to be a little thicker because it was dripping everywhere. The salsa is pretty good as well - it also had a little spice to it. We both liked our entrees. I got the pork and pineapple tacos. The pork had great flavor, but was slightly dry and there should have been more pineapple. By the time we left there were a lot of people waiting for tables! We'd probably go back!

Our…read morefirst cocktails were okay, the skinny marg was average and the New Fashion was a slow sipper, not as smooth as their traditional old fashioned. The classic marg and watermelon mint marg were both much better choices. The fajita filet was amazing, melted like butter in your mouth and the bone marrow was a great bonus. The wagyu flank came out overcooked the first time and was a bit tough. We sent it back and the second one was much better. The fries with it were average, better once soaked in the steak juice. Service was very polite and they comped one of our cocktails for the overcooked flank steak. But they only refilled our water glasses once and disappeared after that. The restaurant is very nice with multiple seating options, in the dining room, high tops, at the bar, and they have a great closed in patio that have garage style doors that can open in nice weather. The outdoor green space looked really nice as well. It is in the pricey side, which aligns with their Twisted restaurants. But the steak quality was at least great.

Kind of felt like we were being rushed. The queso fondue was horrible just a congealed pot of melted cheese that you had to take out with a fork and knife. It's a shame because I love the Sybergs restaurants especially twisted tree but this one I did not like.
