The service was good, if a bit chaotic. The ambiance we great - staff were friendly and fun, clientele were the same. Food and drinks weren't the best. Definitely not as authentic as I was expecting. Cocktails were of the high sugar, vat style. Probably best to go and just have a tequila, chips and salsa with friends bookending going somewhere else for food. Didn't notice the recent ownership change which might account for some of this. Fun experiment but lots of other places to go. But it was really cheap. Actually if I was back to being a broke college student I'd probably give it a higher review. But given the number of only slightly pricier places in a 10 min drive that are properly 4.5+ stars I think this place might need a bit of a refresh. read more

Short and sweet- I much much much prefer this location rather than their other much smaller place. And not only is the size a big difference but the food seems to have gotten better. We visited their old location in the strip mall once and did not like it. It was small, uninviting, and the food was not the best food in the area and didn't hold a candle to a lot of other places. We never figured out how they kept busy. But not that they have moved into Candicci's old location things have really turned around. Glad we gave this place a second chance, the food seemed to have been a lot better on our second go around. The staff is friendly enough. The one negative I will give, and I deducted one star for it, was that with all the renovations they did, all the work they put into changing this drab, gross, nasty restaurant into what it is, they turned it into the most cacophonous place around. It is LOUD in there. I'm not a big complainer but it was hard to miss that this place is one big, open room with a lot of people talking at once, music going, and everything echoing all over the place. It's not a good place if you are looking for an intimate experience. Compleeeeeeete 180 degrees from the old location. But go, give it a try, and let me know what you think! read more

I've been waiting to try this place since they reopened at their new location. Plenty of parking and space inside the resturant. Came during lunch on a week day and it was steady. The hostess was very nice and sat us immediately. Our server was friendly and very attentive. Flight margaritas were delicious. Food taste great as well. The only thing I wish was different was the fried ice cream. The dessert tortilla wasn't a crispy but still pretty good. Ordered churro's to go and they were good. Went in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was busy but we were seated right away. They have an extensive tequila collection and full bar. Service was great, nice chips and salsa. Had the sopes, one with steak and one with pork. The steak was tough and had no spice, the pork was delicious and had nice spice but the corn "cake" was just a dense corn up that I skipped after a few bites. Would definitely try other options. But the sopes weren't my fave. My friend had the burrito lunch and said the ground beef was very flavorful and yummy. The beans and rice were standard but I enjoyed them. read more

My wife & I and our 2 granddaughters stopped by this new location on Holloway Road at 2 pm for a late lunch. Coudda been it's still the holidays, but the place was packed, almost every table taken. Fortunately for us we got a table right away towards the back of the restaurant. Service was prompt and spot on. No sooner had we sat down, basket of chips delivered to table with 2 small bowls of salsa. Our waiter arrived shortly after and took our orders: 3 shrimp tacos for my wife, grilled steak tacos for me and kid sized chicken tacos for our grandkids. Ice teas and Shirley Temples to drink for the table. Should mention all our entrees came with a side plate of rice & beans. Food was delivered shortly, despite the busy Saturday afternoon crowd. Nice presentation on all plates, tacos were generously apportioned with tomatoes & lettuce. My steak tacos were delicious, a little salsa helped to perk them up, but delicious still. My wife seemed to enjoy her shrimp tacos, ate 1 and 2 others came home with us. Grandkids devoured their tacos, rice & beans as well, so must have been satisfying! 4 stars vs. 5: food was good, standard Tex-Amex fare: tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, nothing more adventuresome. Maybe on a less busy occasion we could have explored the menu deeper, or maybe at dinner they offer some specials. This is the new location in Ballwin with a lot of room in the main seating area. Even on a Monday night, this place is completely packed with almost no table available. Many many selections on the menu. I had hard time to choose what I wanted. I ended up with shrimp and fish tacos and my friend had the shrimp and chicken bowl. She also ordered a fresh squeezed citrus margaritas and she loved it! Service is great! Chips and salsa are home made. Price is more in the mid range. The only thing I must say is that their decorations do not have Mexican "flavors". It is somewhat plain. Will come back with some friends for happy hour. read more

I ordered the California burrito and substituted white cheese sauce instead of the cheddar cheese and it was very good. Last night we decided to tray Mi Lupita in Ballwin after reading so many positive reviews. We arrived about 8:30. I hadn't been in the building in years. It was nice, and clean The old nasty carpet I remembered from previous occupants has been replaced with a nice tile floor.(Thank you) Unfortunately, the first thing I noticed was how loud it was. Echoingly loud and there wasn't even any music playing. Just diners and bar patrons. We were seated quickly and greeted by a very nice young lady as our server. She took our drink order and informed us the kitchen closed at 9:00, and that she would return shortly for our order. She returned with our water and our drinks, a standard margarita and a a Cadillac margarita. Both were tasty . They also brought chips and a nice salsa. The only issue was she said they were out of limes. Huh? Not the end of the world, but I am surprised a Mexican restaurant would run out of limes on a Saturday night . . . . We asked for lemon for our water three times but it was never delivered. My date ordered the and I ordered the Tostada Plate and I the Carne Asada. We also asked for More chips and salsa, but it never was refilled. But the food was out in about five minutes , which, scared me a little. The food was good. Nothing fancy or special, but good. My date said they were under seasoned but not bad. My carne asada was really good. Cooked perfect and very flavorful. Tender! The menu said the carne asada came with pico de gallo and roasted jalapenos. It can to the table with about a tablespoon of pico and three mini strips of the jalapeno. What a disappointment! I asked for a side of pico. The response was that the kitchen was closed but she would try. Huh? They managed to bring me the pico. Also, oddly enough, my care came with three half lime wedges. Oh? I thought they were out of limes? At least at the bar . . . . All in all it was okay. Nothing special and nothing terribly bad. Looking at the menu I felt like the food was rather boring based on the descriptions. Nothing that makes me want to return, definitely not until they resolve the noise issue. May I also suggest to management that you not close the restroom during business hours for cleaning unless of course its an emergency. Your staff can clean them after you close . . . . There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in our area. Mi Lupita does nothing to stand out form the crowd but the service seemed good. It's worth a try and let you make your own mind up. read more

I had been to Mi Lupita lots of times at their previous location and today, 2/6/25, was my first time at the new Holloway Rd location. It was mobbed! We had a party of six and waited at least 30 minutes for a table around 6pm on a Thursday. It took me over 5 minutes to order drinks at the bar. I ordered Chilaquiles. So the tortilla chips are simmered in red sauce then fried with eggs and topped with onions and cheese. Love it! My dinner dates ordered arroz con pollo, nachos, vegetable tacos, and the tortilla soup and tacos combo. We all enjoyed our meals and the service is friendly. Lots going on here! Mi Lupita - Chilaquiles (2/6/25) - Mexican Near Me - Ballwin, Missouri

Mi Lupita has moved to a new location. They have a much nicer place now with more room, a great feel and best of all, they moved their delicious food with them. We were privileged to join them for their soft opening, last week and have already been back. Someone decided that they should have a new Yelp entry even though they are located in the same neighborhood. This re-set the reviews the photos and the check-in history. Ms T and I had 1270 documented visits to the old location since 2004, including the previous one run by Lety's brother Pepe Campos. Now we get to start over and hope we can log another 20+ years of dining with the Sanchez family. Congratulations to Lety, Sergio, David and the entire Mi Lupita family on their new location. We are grateful to have this place, so close by. Mi Lupita is definitely not a cookie cutter Mexican place. It is family operated with 99.9% of the items made in-house, bringing the food of Zacatecas to St Louis. It is filled with die-hard regulars such as us, but everyone will be made to feel welcome. Ask your server for recommendations if you are a newb. We continue to be impressed by how many sauces they make. They make excellent red salsa for your totopos to start the meal, not overloaded with onion. It has a little pleasant heat and always has good balance. This salsa is used on some hot dishes, like chilaquiles or huevos rancheros. We frequently buy a jar to take home and any unused goes in the freezer for use in soups and stews. It is a secret ingredient for which there is no real substitute. They make an excellent red enchilada sauce, almost pure chile. They offer a green enchilada sauce that is thick and rich with chile jalapeno flavor. My favorite is the spicy tomatillo sauce which is red in color from the chile de arbol. It comes on the Bistec Zacatecano but I like it on everything from chilaquiles to enchiladas to huevos rancheros and pollo asado. I think they still make a tart green tomatillo sauce for tacos. They have a sweet, dark mole for the Chicken Mole and of course will be glad to provide you with Pico de Gallo. My single favorite thing is Guisado de Puerco which is deliciously flavored pork stew. Get it in green enchiladas or just get a plate of it with the green enchilada sauce on top and eat it with soft corn tortillas. I like to add a fried egg on top. Ms T orders it in burritos. I frequently have an order, a la carte, as a side with my huevos rancheros or chilaquiles. We both love the chilaquiles, Ms T prefers the mild tomato sauce version while I go for the spicy tomatillo sauce. Bistek Zacatecano is a favorite of our son and for me as well. As mentioned, it has the spicy tomatillo sauce and comprises sliced beef and onions cooked therein. The heat can vary with the chiles used, but sometimes it will set you on fire. After the Guisado, I frequently order Huevos con Chorizo and Huevos Rancheros . When I order other dishes, I frequently have them add an egg on top. They will sauté some fresh chiles jalapenos in the huevos con chorizo if you ask, and I usually do. They also offer an excellent version with nopales. The chorizo is homemade and is better than any I get anywhere. Delicious shredded chicken is offered and one of Ms T's favorites is a Quesadilla with this chicken. It makes great tostadas that I order for lunch. Also recommended are shredded chicken enchiladas, either red or green sauce. They also do very good pollo asado which I order with chorizo on top and of course, the spicy tomatillo sauce. Or try Pepe's tacos with chopped steak and chorizo or have them make them with grilled chicken. For enchiladas, besides the pork, I also order Enchiladas Banderas, a nice assortment in the colors of the Mexican flag or shrimp and sour cream which are rich and delicious, or just chorizo with red sauce. You can make your enchiladas a combination of your favorite meat and sauce They now offer both red and green posole as well as carnitas tacos. We first came here because someone we knew mentioned the tamales. I rarely order them except at Christmas time to take home, but they are good. I like to have a side order of guisado de Puerco with them or a little bowl of sauce of my choosing to accompany them. Chiles rellenos are made from chiles poblanos and served with the tomato sauce over the top. They also have very well-cooked frijoles negroes de la olla if you don't want their delicious, lardy home cooked pintos refritos. Sometimes in the summer when I want something cooler, I enjoy shrimp ceviche, but it has onions so I only get it when they are not busy and I can get them to make it for me without. We are dedicated to a raw-onion free lifestyle. Light lunches for me are often fish or shrimp tacos. They offer several homemade desserts including very good flan and sometimes Torta Tres Leches is listed on the board. Sometimes people just go to Mexican restaurants for margaritas. If you want Mexican food this is the place to go. Anything you order here is incredible. I have been a customer of theirs for over 8+ years. Their new location accommodates for 60 plus more people. Only down fault is the parking is tight. If you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night expect at least a 30+ min wait for a party of four. I started my night with their famous Cadillac Margarita. David is one of the best bartenders around!! Once we were sat my party started with the trio dips. This included Quac, Queso, and Mango pico de gallo . My go to meal is the steak cactus tacos. However if you want something greasy and cheesy their Letys tacos are to die for. To start, the ambience is fun and the staff is very welcoming. The chips are fresh and warm, salsa is great, and queso is spot on. There is a wide variety of margarita options, but what stands out is that they don't have that overpowering sugary mix flavor that so many house margaritas have. There is a large menu with a wide variety. Highly recommend the pork and pineapple tacos! The only downside is the inevitable wait times, but it seems to calm down after around 7:30pm. We waited around 40 minutes, but it was well worth it! This is my new go-to Mexican in St. Louis county! read more

Ya gotta try this place! Absolutely a step up from the usual Mexican restaurant menu. Yea, there are fajitas and tacos, but there are several house special entrees that are unique. For only being open for a month, they were very busy. That's a good sign! We were greeted and seated right away. They bring your drinks before salsa and chips and you will understand that when you get a mouthful of their delicious but spicy salsa! I ordered a Pepe's margarita on the rocks. It's a house margarita topped with brandy. It was divine. One 27 oz was plenty for me! I went with the pollo asado. I asked for a side of sour cream with it and was so glad I did. Fantastic food, and service. When I went there for the first time I ordered tacos and enchiladas in beef, chicken, and pork to find out which was best, they were all delicious. My husband and I went in for a nice lunch date and I ordered letty's tacos with a side of the consomme served on the side. Waiter came back and said he had checked with manager.He said "no" I could not have a cup of the consomme with my tacos. We spent $60 there for two people that day, and it probably cost about 3 cents to make a cup of consomme. Dislike when restaurants and companies are so rigid and don't make exceptions for anything. Went to the new location. Busy busy busy. Had to wait for parking spot. Good sign! The wait for a table was only 5 minutes- excellent Margaritas, chips, salsa and Queso. I had the Fajitas with steak and shrimp. She had the pick 3. Taco, enchilada, and tamale. Everything was hot fresh and tasty. Service was so friendly and prompt. Just tried Mi Lupita in Ballwin for the first time and have to say I DON'T RECOMMEND!!!!!!! At first, it was fine. We got seated decently quick, and the drinks were okay. But then... things started to go downhill. After receiving our drinks, we didn't see our server again for at least fifteen minutes. When she finally came back, she acted as if serving us was a chore. We proceeded to order our food, and she implied that we were ordering too much for the number of people we had. When we got our food, it was incorrect, and she had to get the kitchen to remake it. The noise level was unbearable, making it impossible to have a conversation. Overall, the passive-aggressive attitude of the server and the chaotic atmosphere made this a TERRIBLE dining experience. read more
